Morning everyone Smile My friend mentioned to me last night that I need to get the flu jab. Isn't it only available in the winter months though? I do know quite a few people who are getting coughs and colds at the minute and I'm constantly stuffy but I read that is normal in pregnancy. I do not want flu !!

LexieLoos · 12/05/2019 10:43

Morning all, how’s everyone feeling today?

I’m finding the tiredness and sickness are subsiding but now I’m constantly hungry instead!

@BobbySD345 my midwife told me the flu jab will be available from September, but I’m not sure if it differs in different areas

sophhhxo · 12/05/2019 10:53

Hello!! Hope I'm ok to jump on!

I am expecting my 1st baby on the 9th November! I'm so exited and nervous!

Be great to chat to some of you!! :)

JoJoSaysHello · 12/05/2019 11:14

@BobbySD345 My midwife mentioned at my booking appointment that if my GP still had stocks of the flu jab I should get it, but not to worry if they didn't have any left as we're coming to the end of flu season anyway. She said to get it as soon as the new one is available for next winter.

ACuppaSolvesEverything · 12/05/2019 11:21

@Sophhhxo welcome! We have the same due date 😊 It’s my first baby too and I’m also a mixture of excited and nervous. Telling my Dad today and very nervous how he will react.

Has anyone ever been to a Mothercare expectant parent event? I know they’ll push their products but I’m hoping it’s a chance to try out some stuff and get some advice? I have no clue what to look for or what I need!

LittleAndOften · 12/05/2019 11:49

@ACuppaSolvesEverything it's probably worth going to have a good look around. Things we learned with DS1...

  1. A changing table is a waste of money. A mat on the floor is best, especially for a wriggler.
  2. A fancy nappy bin is not necessary. A cheap one will do just fine. Baby wipe warmers are daft.
  3. The second hand market for big items is great value. Eg look at travel systems you like in the shop then look on ebay, fb and gumtree for second hand. You will save hundreds. People spend £800 on these then sell with very little use. Also, we found we really didn't use the pram part of the travel system past the first couple of months. The car seat and reclining buggy were sufficient.
  4. Get a car seat that can fit onto your buggy wheel base. We have Maxi-cosi adaptors. NB car seats are bloody heavy!
  5. Fancy high chairs and bouncers are a waste of money. Most people seem to end up with a £15 IKEA highchair and basic bouncer.
  6. Your baby will outgrow its moses basket surprisingly quickly. A second hand wooden cot and new mattress are a good combo. Cot bumpers look pretty but raise the risk of SIDS.
  7. Swaddles and baby sleeping bags are awesome.
  8. Get more muslins than you think you'll ever need.
  9. A video baby monitor really helped reassure us.
10. If you're breastfeeding, a good quality electric pump is invaluable. When you're engorged that milk has to come out!

Hope this helps!
Other tip - go to second hand baby sales. We got loads there - cot mobile, toys, baby walker, play mat etc.

BobbySD345 · 12/05/2019 12:11

@LexieLoos @JoJoSaysHello thank you Flowers

BobbySD345 · 12/05/2019 12:12

@LittleAndOften so helpful ! 😍

MrsHormonal2019 · 12/05/2019 12:33

Afternoon. No sickness for me but constantly tired and hungry.
I manged my first run in weeks yesterday and my legs are feeling it today!

Farmmum7 · 12/05/2019 14:24

@ACuppaSolvesEverything I was thinking of going to one of the Mothercare events mainly for the voucher incase there was anything I might want and to see the types of travel system you can get now it's been a while since I needed one!

@LittleAndOften thankyou Smile any advice on carriers/wraps have you tried either or both? I always used a carrier before but it can cause back pain I've not used the wraps but they seem to be quite popular now and I'm not sure which way to go!

LittleAndOften · 12/05/2019 16:04

@Farmmum7 we started with the lycra wraps but they lose their stability fairly quickly and I didn't enjoy being wrapped in several layers of fabric on top of clothes. We have a connecta which has been a fantastic buy. They are pricey but hold their value. I haven't tried woven wraps or ring slings. Not brave enough!

ACuppaSolvesEverything · 12/05/2019 16:46

LittleandOften thank you so much for the advice! My Mum is already scouring the car boot sales and has picked up some bargains. I’m also lucky enough to be given a Moses basket to borrow until baby has outgrown it. Trying to spend as little as possible given baby will outgrow it all so quickly!

medina7 · 12/05/2019 17:21

Hi ladies, new to the forum ! Hopefully I can join in on the countdown.. my due date is 25/11/19 baby #1 am an older mother so quite nervous but excited ! Congrats to all !Smile

RainhamRosie · 12/05/2019 19:40

Today marks the first day of my second trimester! 13 weeks 🎉

I was kind of hoping to wake up today with a defined bump and this 'pregnancy glow' I've heard so much about.

The disappointment is palpable.

BobbySD345 · 12/05/2019 21:23

@RainhamRosie when is your due date ? Mine's 19/11/19 so I'm almost at 13 weeks !

On the topic of bumps, my belly is huge and hard. I'm not slim anyway but I've always carried it on my face arms and legs and always got away with quite a flat tummy. It just seems so early and it's getting impossible to hide. Does anyone know if you show more following mc's? I know 2nd 3rd pregnancy etc you do because 1st time around you've stretched but with me getting to 12 weeks and 8 weeks before, would that cause this early bump 3rd time around? Don't get me wrong I've eaten alot of crisps 🤣 but this doesn't feel like fat or gas !!

LittleFox01 · 12/05/2019 21:29

Hi all! I would love to join. I'm due 21/11/19! I have a little boy already who has just turned 1.
I had a scan a little while ago and need to go back for my screening as baby was measuring smaller and behind to what I should of been but I could of possibly ovulated later so going back to Tuesday to see what baby is measuring and do the tests needed.

How is everyone feeling? X

RainhamRosie · 13/05/2019 11:49

@BobbySD345

I'm due 17/11 so only 2 days ahead ☺️ I woke up today with a defined bump (under the flab) so I think something has moved.

HeartvsHead · 13/05/2019 11:55

Hello,

Can I join too? I am due 2nd Nov. Was unsure if I should be on the Oct or Nov threads until I had my scan last Thurs (at 14+5 so bit late!).

I used a wrap with my first and absolutely loved it until she was about 5 months old and got a bit heavier. I ended up have a c-section with my first and the material one was so comfy to wear whilst I was healing. DD loved it and being a winter baby it was so snugly! Mine was a Liberty Sling and only about £20.

I then switched to an Ergobaby (pricey but I get a sore lower back often so wanted something that distributed the weight well). If your local NCT has a sling library you can hire them to try so if you are unsure what you will find comfy it is a good way to go.

Prequelle · 13/05/2019 11:57

I feel awful because I had to take the day off work today :( I'm 15+4 but dizziness has started which was making me throw up in work. I was trying to look after my patients yesterday, clutching a vomit bowl.

dottydally · 13/05/2019 12:25

@RainhamRosie I'm due the same date as you and also feel like my abdomen has pushed out at the bottom in the last 3/4 days! I thought I'd just eaten too much Blush

@Prequelle feel better soon!

Mintypea5 · 13/05/2019 12:31

Being 3rd baby and having one 10 months ago means my stomach has put up no resistance! Defo showing way more now than I did this time last pregnancy.

I'm so tired it's ridiculous ... only 13+4 told DH last night not sure how I'll make it to the end! He'll be wheeling me around in a large tub at this rate.

Pretty sure i have tonsillitis which is a bit of a pain! Will have to try see the GP I guess for some antibiotics.

Farmmum7 · 13/05/2019 16:09

Thanks @HeartvsHead I'll look at those. I've got scoliosis so I want something that distributes the weight well so I don't get pain I'm on a hill farm in the middle of nowhere so I won't be able to use the pushchair often and I found the carrier was great when they were feeling clingy I needed to preoare dinner or something that requires 2 hands whilst keeping them close!

I feel like I've a small bump but since I've spent 6 weeks eating everything whilst not going anywhere because I've felt so unwell I've put on loads of weight to my tummy and I get so bloated by the end of the day I'm massive but it's all too high up to be bump by the morning I've deflated I feel sorry for DH who has to put up with me farting all night on top of climbing over him to pee every couple of hours!!

LauraGJ · 13/05/2019 18:09

@Farmmum7 I’ve got scoliosis too so also looking for baby carriers etc that support the back well! Please let me know if you’ve found anything in particular.
I am also very bloated - 11 weeks and have definitely put on weight, thinking it’s half baby half crisps, pizza, anything salty I can get my hands on 🙈🙈🙈

bearface45 · 13/05/2019 21:38

Don’t think I have any bump yet, just a bit bloated! but prob haven’t been having as many calories as been struggling to find things to eat that I can stomach.
Welcome to all newbies

Farmmum7 · 14/05/2019 09:59

I'm beginning to think this "glow" is a lie!! Almost 12 weeks now and the vomiting just won't stop my throat felt so sore last night afterwards I could barely swallow I had to have Calpol to try and ease the pain so I could try and sleep because I couldn't swallow the pills! Today is going to be a loooong one!
