honeyapple · 20/09/2007 14:18

Ahhhh! I love a hairy baby.... maybe not a wookie kinda hairy though If this baby doesnt have hair then I wont think it's mine!

Kitkat- arm up your bum?? ... tis true, you do have to give up any kind of dignity when giving birth. I had a similar amount of people staring at my fanjo whilst my legs were in stirrups with DS birth. Nice. And I had a huge episiotomy too...yum...I think there were some students having a gawp as well... Fortunately DD birth was slightly more reserved.. apart from pooing of course...
Hopefully this time around it will be just me and MW and DP lurking somewhere with a cuppa tea at the ready.

MrsMcJnr · 20/09/2007 15:12

lalalalalalalala not hearing any of this scary birth chat lalalalalalalala

Chooster · 20/09/2007 16:05

Huge (blated) Congratualations to the Fettle clan - Been trying to get on all day but there's been so much to do!!! Grrrr... and the wee man hasn't slept at all really. Still I love it really as have had some lovely smiles from him today . Fettle you had to get hooked with the nasty implement, we look forward to hearing all the details. Hope you are snuggling up with your new litle fella as I type. Good luck with the BF - I remember you were a bit anxious about that.

Iampg - Your holiday sounds awful . One thing after another eh? You poor bugger.. Deinately get a good complaint letter going. Perhaps copy and paste i here and we can help get it really really grumpy.

MrsMc - LOL at wookie!!!! DS2 is a little on the hairy side - his ears have a nice dark hairy film over them Its very cute... . DH will totally melt and fall in love even if it is slightly wookie-like. How's work these days?

PMSL at the arm up the arse - am sure there's a tehnical term for that . With DS2 I really did have an arm up my fanny as the doctor was trying to yank out the pesky placenta. And, even though my vision was a little blurry, I'm sure I counted at least 7 people throughout the whole process. Dignity - what dignity!!!?????? not sure of poo-ing this time (hate to say it but I really didn't care - great things these epidurals!!) but I definately did with DS1 .

So, Greedy-watch and Honeyapple-watch is about to start... Hee hee - loving the excitement!

Looks like your questions got answered seaside, but would echo Greedy in that NCT classes were good form my experience with DS1. Worth it if you can find one that works for you.

Oooooh, so now DS2 has finally gone to sleep - just as I need to put him in the car to get DS2 from nursery!!!. Hopefully he'll sleep well tonight. He was awake most of yesterday too and slept for 6 and a half hours in one stretch!!! Hooorrraaayyyyy!!! I feel positively chirpy

Chooster · 20/09/2007 16:07

Even though I'm chirpy I still can't type a proper post for toffee!! . Sorry for the many many faults in there. Definately dont get me to add to your complaint letter Iampg.... Any off to get DS1 from nursery

MrsMcJnr · 20/09/2007 16:32

LOL Chooster - baby might sound more like a wookie than look like one but I had a full head of very dark hair when I was born and was maybe a little hirsute - but I was a premmie!

iampgatlast · 20/09/2007 17:29

congratulations fettle and family!!! and a huge welcome to the world toby xxxxxxxx give him a big hug from us xxx i hope all went well for you, shame about the hook cant wait ti hear details and pics take care xxxx

seaside - YOU STAR!!! that was the make of the buggy i was after - the stokke. havnt actually looked at any of their other stuff but might have a butchers now. i cant offer any advice other than what has been given on your other qs except - i cant sleep on my back too much pressure on tummy 4 me. hows bump? you definately having a boy?

thanks for all that sympathised about the holiday - i am feeling slightly easier after handing in my complaint letter (even if i do say it myself i am great at writing them i have never lost a case yet )

dp said from day one he will be staying top end otherwise itl put him off sex for life!! but you experienced mums are scaring the shit out of me with tales of hooks, fingers up bum, and poo!!! ARRRGGHHHH

im with mrsmcjnr lalalalalalalalalalaaaaaaa

oh i brought a fetal heart monitor today going to test it out later with dp - oscar has been doing some wild belly shuddering kicks today - i love it!!

fettleandminifettle · 20/09/2007 19:09

Hi All

Not had time to read through all the posts - finally out of hospital a couple of hours ago.

Toby is breast feeding well (well put it this way, he sucks bloody hard for 30-45 mins!). Doubt there's much milk in there yet!

Must go and help bath DD - she's been such an angel, but I can tell she's missed not having me home for the last few days.

I'll give all the gory details later, but bl*dy hll doesn't labour hurt?!!!! Sorry those to still go through it!! Definitely had it far too easy with DD!!!

Big hugs to all - hopefully be back later once i've read all your posts - DH thinks you are all lovely now too!!! Think he might actually want to keep posting!!

back later
xxx

honeyapple · 20/09/2007 20:11

Ah! Fettle- so lovely to hear from you. Great to hear all going well . I'm sure the milk will be there in abundance in a couple of days, in the meantime dont forget you are giving him all that great colostrum. So, labour- hurt heh? Looking forward to hearing all the details... did you have any pain relief? It seemed like the induction took quite a long time, I bet you were knackered by the end. Hope you manage to get some sleep tonight, and dont worry too much about DD, I'm sure she will understand that mummy might be a little tired at the moment... what does she make of Toby?

WELL DONE AGAIN!! xx

fettleandminifettle · 20/09/2007 20:21

Back again - pleased to see that now all the excitement has passed you've all disappeared!!!

Well - so fingers in your ears girls who don't want to know the details!!.....

I am officially the woosiest person in the world re internal examinations - 1st one ok, prostin in, few contractions, nothing much. 2nd one a bit worse, apparently could have broken my waters, but it would be nicer for me to have more prostin (yippee!!, prostin-induced pains are very short and very very sharp and are even more unfair in that you know they are doing nothing to progress your labour, just prepare your cervix!). 3rd Internal, involved much screaming and shouting and eventual emergency entrance of midwives thinking a birth was about to happen unannounced on the ante-natal ward!! I kid you not, she was gowned and gloved and ready to go!!. Anyway, no more prostin needed, but told a queue for the delivery suite!probably wouldn't get in until tomorrow (ie today, Thursday!). So me and DH went for a walk, only to come back 40 mins later and be told that we nearly missed our slot!

Anyway, then into delivery suite, crochet hook and so much gas and air, I nearly fainted, and she managed to break my waters a bit - contractions started coming pretty hard and about 2 in every 10 mins, so they thought they'd leave me for 3 hours, before deciding it wasn't working and hooking me up to the drip. The rest of the story is a bit of blur, of lots of gas and air, some wonderful pethidine, some shouting, little bit of swearing and some very excellent, silent pushing on my part, I should say!![proud emoticon!!]. Did need a little cut, as Toby's head was as big as expected and I would have torn otherwise - thank goodness I didn't go for another 3 weeks!!

Anyway, he then fed pretty quickly afterwards - so different to DD. He was making a wierd singing noise, that the midwives were a bit concerned about, which is why we were kept in hospital until this afternoon to see the paediatricians, but eventually the consultant paediatrician, just said that's the noise all baby's make! Bit pissed off when we could have gone home before lunch, but better to be safe than sorry.

anyway, going to try and settle him down for some sleep now - he slept right through last night from midnight until 6pm, except he did have this whistle all through the night - hope we don't have it tonight, as it is noisy!!

Thanks again for all your messages, I did feel your support from my hospital bed!!

Anyway, Iampg - def complain, that sounds awful!!

Greedy - always eat the whole box, just don't tell DH!!

Great to see you, Rainbowy - totally understand the stress of pg after mc! Keep thinking healthy & well.

Kitkat - I want a human sized kitkat!!

And sod the diet - I was supposed to lose weight to get my eternity ring, but guess what girls, DH bought one for me, while he was in America back in July and kept it a surprise - I found it on my pillow when I came home this afternoon. I just cried and cried when I opened it and read the card - he just said that I was the biggest, bravest girl in the world!! He is a pretty good husband, but he know thinks he knows you all too and keeps reading over my shoulder to see what you are up to - have to stop that i think - lots more talk about girly things. Although he did find the poo talk funny - I really don't know if I've pooed or not, but I bloody pushed like I was!!!

Right, better go - far too long post and I need to get some sleep. So big waves to everyone else!

Thanks again and come on Greedy and Honey, the pressure's on you now!!

lots of love
Fet

fettleandminifettle · 20/09/2007 20:23

Crossed with you Honey - DD loves little Toby! So pleased that the first introduction has gone so well. Was helped that she had won a colouring competition at het hospital, that she had entered last Saturday when I was in for a final monitoring, so she proudly picked up her prize while she was visiting!

BTW - labour, nah it's a walk in the park - all those forgetting hormones are kicking in!!

Ready · 20/09/2007 20:40

Congratulations Fettle!!! Sounds like an ordeal, but totally worth it

Bodkin · 20/09/2007 20:57

WELL DONE YOU SUPERSTAR! And wot a lovely post - you sound in fantastic form. And how nice is your DH! Lovely pressie to come home to.

Glad to hear Toby is feeding well - are you looking forward to looking like Dolly Parton in a couple of days?!

Big hugs and kisses all round, I knew you could do it!

greedygreedyguzzler · 20/09/2007 21:16

congrats fettle! well done!!! so glad your little toby is here safe and sound. what was the pethidine like then? i have heard lots of people saying they dont like it, but i REALLY dont fancy trying to be all natural again this time....now its imminent i am definately up for some more pain relief. did you like it??

and i am officially the most jealous woman in the world!!! and NOT of you having your baby, of you getting an eternity ring! i have been going on at dh for YEARS that i should get one............birth of first baby................after 5 years of marriage ..etc..............and he told me (only yesterday) that he had saved the money he got from a bonus in May to get me one to give to me after i gave birth this time................BUT......because our bloody stupid extension has gone so far over budget he had to use the money to pay the builder for some of the extras. i dont really mind and i was so chuffed that he had managed to keep his bonus a secret and had been intending to get me one..............but after reading your post fettle...........i cant stop crying!!!!! its either pg hormones or i really am a materialistic cow! i think i know which!!!

anyway, sorry...........just feeling a bit low tonight.

greedygreedyguzzler · 20/09/2007 21:18

congrats again fettle, sorry my last post was a bit crap! i am REALLY chuffed for you

MrsMcJnr · 21/09/2007 10:55

Iampg bliss is ignorance (though I am starting my ?birth wishes? list with earnest at least so I know what everything means even if it doesn?t happen the way I?d like. Enjoy that monitor

Hey Fettle well done girl!!! Fabulous! Glad Toby is a vigorous sucker and that DD is being an angel we thought your DH was lovely too thanks for sharing the details, I am really not liking the sound of that 3rd internal (or any of them really!) what a nightmare about the queue ? what were you meant to do? Wait? I think not!! So sorry about the crochet hook and the cut! But well done you, sounds like you did a wonderful job! How lovely about the eternity ring the message has just made me cry, pg hormones hey! I really am so excited for you ? I can?t wait to see some photos of our new friend

Honeyapple lol at ?labour- hurt heh? ?

Greedy ? good question about the pethadine, I was wondering that too. Also, I am confused about something I am sure the physio told me to put cushions down my right side so that when I rolled in the night from my left side, I didn?t end up on my back but ended up with the weight on the left side still as the right was slightly elevated. Is that wrong? thanks hon. LOL sorry hon, I?m still jealous of your diamond earrings! I don?t think I?ll be getting an eternity ring for a very long time.

Hello everyone!

fettleandminifettle · 21/09/2007 11:51

Hi girls again!

Please tell me, first nights home are always the worst and it will get better! Toby didn't really settle all night - he slept for 2 hours in evening, just until I went to bed, then he woke and fed and fed and fell asleep, then woke as soon as put down, pooed, fed, fed, fed [ow my nipples hurts![hurting emoticon!]], then DH managed to settle him to sleep, so all inall had about 2 sessions of 1 hour and 2 hours sleep respectively between 10pm and 6.30am - sound normal, or do I have a bad sleeper? Slept happily from 8am til 10am this morning typical! I managed a lovely sleep til 9am, then a shower and then a bath - I'm so stiff, feel like I've run a marathon!

Oh, oh Greedy, your fantasy man from Eastenders is on the telly - he is gorgeous. I think more so, in a suit - he's got very cute dimples - oh no hormones, no frisky thoughts!![oww!!!]

Midwife at hospital said, if we wanted to have sex in next 6 weeks to use condoms - does she realise what I've just put my body through, we ain't having sex ever again - especially now I've got my eternity ring!! [only joking DH, as i know you'll read this on the sly now!!!]

Well, Pethidine - personally prefer the feeling of diamorphine I had with DD, or else these contractions were harder, or I'm more of a wimp this time around. But the in between time when you are not contracting and just relaxing, I felt pretty damn great!! think I even remember thinking that i enjoy this part of labour!! That's the thing to remember girls to still go through it, the pain is only temporary - so just breathe that gas and air on the crescendo and enjoy the relaxing feeling as it goes back down again! Do i sound sadistic?!! They gave me an anti-emetic, so didn't really feel sick at all - only when taking lots of gas air towards the final stages. I would say not try and be brave - it does really hurt, but I was reassured that the prostin is very irritating to the cervix, so that was why it was so much more painful than it could have been.

Anyway, milk machines had a couple of hours to fill up, so really ought to put myself through some feeding!! When will my milk come in, with Lex, it was after 3 days, is it always after 3 days and is he getting enough at the moment. Resorted to trying a bottle at midnight last night as he was still trying to suckle after 2 hours feeding - didn't really take very much though, so then wondered if he is just a sucky baby and maybe a dummy is needed.

Right, big hugs to all - I'll try and get around to posting a picture when I have a spare moment.

thanks Mrs for keeping the mc thread up to date and the Temping graduates - did you see that NH101, just got a BFP this morning!

Have to go - crying boy!!

bye=bye
xxx

ps greedy, I'm still jealous of your ear-rings too and your house sounds gorgeous - all good things! big hug - think you're also feeling a bit emotional as you know you're up next!! i'm so looking forward to your news!
xxx

Take care all

MrsMcJnr · 21/09/2007 12:01

Fettle ? I think you are the one with superpowers actually you are posting, washing, dressing AND sleeping (though not much ) with a newborn! Is DH off work for long? LOL about the sex, it really must be the last thing on your mind at the mo! Thanks for all the drug advice, I wish we could try a bit of everything in advance I saw a programme the other day where the girl has an epidural and felt as if spiders were walking all over her but when she scratched (and made a right state of herself) she couldn?t feel it ? that must be horrible! Is your Mum in love with her Grandson?

You?re welcome, was happy to pass on the good news great news for NH101 isn?t it? she is so upbeat and excited!!

Bodkin · 21/09/2007 12:02

Hi Fettle

Don't worry about the constant feeding at the mo - my DD1 was exactly the same the first night home - I was shattered and had v. sore nips.... apparently their tummies are only the size of walnuts at this early stage, so need to feed little and often, so just go with it, and when your milk comes in (mine started to come in early on day 3, and by the evening my norks were huge) things will get better (you'll be begging him to feed every hour just to relieve the engorgement!). Try letting him suck on your (clean) little finger to give your nips a break if you;re desperate - some babies are VERY sucky to start with. Have a trawl through some of the threads on the BF board (under FEED THE WORLD heading) They are absolutely brilliant on there - any probs, seek out a mumsnetter called TIKTOK - she knows everything about BF and is really great and not in the least bit scary! there was a thread just the other day about exactly your concern called something like "Advice on feeding a 2 day old baby"

Sounds like you were an absolute hero in labour, and had things really under control - just get as much rest as you can and drink plenty of fluids to allow your body to make the milk!

xx

honeyapple · 21/09/2007 13:36

Hiya,

Ah Fettle bless you... I've just had a flashback to when my babies were 2 days old- hell isnt it! I agree completely with the very sensible Bodders, a clean finger is a very good sucking substitute. I dont think babies are necessarily hungry, they just like sucking! My DS was a real sucker, my nips were in a terrible state for the first week or so with him, and yes I did resort to a dummy which he really took to. I'd personally steer clear of bottles for at least a couple of weeks until the BF is well established (nipple confusion or something ).
Cant wait to see a piccie. xx

Mrs and Greedy- re Pethidine. I had it with DS and HATED it! Made me really spaced out like I was completely stoned... which is fine in the right context ... but not what I personally wanted to feel when I was in labour. I was totally not aware of where I was or anything, quite disconcerting
really. I am hoping to stick to gas and air again this time around.

Cleaned the kitchen floor this morning! Does that mean labour is imminent?!

KitKat30 · 21/09/2007 14:36

Fettle lovely to hear from you! You sound like you're doing an amazing job - you've had time to post on MN, that has to be a good sign!!!

Bless your DH and the eternity ring!!! I don't think such a present would even have occurred to mine... maybe I should suggest it!!!

Hi everyone else - back later when/if Joe is asleep, just popped on for Fettle-watch!

oooohhhh - it's Greedy-watch next!!!

greedygreedyguzzler · 21/09/2007 14:54

mrs - i had forgotten about my diamond earrings!! i am truly horrible sometimes aren't i? thanks for reminding me about them. i must remember them after giving birth!!! i was always put out after giving birth to ds cos dh didn't buy me anything to say well done, not even some flowers and it seemed like everyone else i knew got jewellery or similar!!! but dh learnt his lesson when i had dd and got me a necklace!!! mustn't expect anything this time though cos i will only get disappointed!!! that old mr. fettle had a lot to answer for!!!
and sorry to confuse about the pillow!!! i meant under your right hip not left! ( i am crap with rights and lefts!!) and it is both the aorta and vena cavae that get compressed. dont think it really matters that much though during a normal nights sleep. there seems to be lots of conflicting advice about it.

honey - please let me have my baby before you! not fair if you push in front!!! saw midwife today and she said " see you in 2 weeks then, you will be approaching your due date then!!"...............er, no!!! i will be 5 days over my due date by then! sometimes i really think she hasn't got a clue!!

i tried talking to her about the birth cos i am SHITTING myself and she was hopeless, just kept saying " it will be ok, its all mind over matter, you have done it before!!!" NOT what i wanted to hear really.

honey - i saw that you spotted my new thread!!! some peoples answers scared me!!!

fettle - you sound on good form!!! i remember my second night with both ds and dd and they both wanted to suck CONSTANTLY all night!!! (have to say, i was so knackered with dd that that was the point i gave up feeding her..bit pathetic i know, but i told dh to give her some formula so i could get some sleep and then never went back to BF) cant wait to see your pics!!

Bodkin · 21/09/2007 15:08

Greedy - what did you want the midwife to say then - "ahh, don't worry luv, you'll pop it out"! You will as well, you know. All this painting and lugging patients around, that baby will be desperate to get out for a bit of peace

greedygreedyguzzler · 21/09/2007 15:12

bodders - i am not sure what i wanted the midwife to say really now that you ask!!!!!! maybe ............"oh you aren't pg at all actually you just have a lot of trapped wind!, but if you really want another baby i will see if i can pinch one from the post natal ward for you!!!"

fettleandminifettle · 21/09/2007 16:09

Greedy glad I'm not the only one who got annoyed with the perky attitude of the MW when I said I was scared of labour at my last appointment!!! I really don't know what I wanted her to say, but not "oh well, you've done it before, you're body knows what to do this time!!" That's the point, you stupid woman, I know what to expect this time - last time I was in blissful ignorance!!! don't worry, you will be fine though - don't listen to me, I'm just a wet, wimp! Anyway, this nervousness, isn't it the start of pre-labour!!!!

Thanks for the reassurance girls that it will get better!

Not a superhero - just have superhero support. My mum is being fantastic, as is DH, but I'm really sorry DH, I just have to tell someone and why not tell you all!!!

DH fainted while my drip was being inserted!!!. He stupidly watched the needle go in and plastic tubing go up my vein - I was happily squeezing his hand on my gas and air and looking the other way - when a slight "oops I'm not that great at this" said the MW and my hand felt all wet. DH goes "oh I don't feel well" Head collapsed onto my bump, just as a contraction was starting. Main MW was holding my hand in the air, trying to stop all my blood flowing out, Student MW was trying to stop DH from falling off the bed onto the floor and had to press the emergency button - 8 MW were in the room in seconds!! Poor DH was mortified and white as a sheet for about 40 mins afterwards - I just carried on having my contractions while they fussed over him. He felt so embarrassed - but whenever any needles appeared at any othe point, they wouldn't do anything until DH was sitting down and not looking!!. Only time i lost my patience, was when I was having my pethidine and they refused to do it until he was sat down - I just screamed at him to SIT DOWN!!!

anyway, Toby grizzling, so must get off.
