Morning all,

Sorry for not posting last night but didn't get in 'till gone 2 am and didn't think many of you would be on then!!!

DS (confirmed as Toby) was born just before 10 last night after a reasonably smooth labour (I shall leave DW to fill you in with the gory details....) weighing in at 8lb 9oz. An absolutely gorgeous little boy, but then again I would say that wouldn't I!

Fettle and DS hopefully coming home later today and I'm sure you will get more from her then!!!

Mr Fettle

Yippee - congrats to the fettle family Thank so much for keeping us posted Mr fettle Cant wait to hear all about it later - hope the crochet hook stayed away!

Welcome to the world Toby! - now where's a pic!!!!!

(Teehee - can't believe I have managed to post before greedy !!!)

seaside72 · 20/09/2007 08:47

BTW grad buddies - I have some boring-asked-a-million-times-questions:
1)This whole sleeping on your back thing - why is that a no-no again?? I know being on your left side is best (re heart etc)but I am usually a front sleeper and keep finding myself waking up on my back now and DH says I am sleeping on back a lot too? Is it bad for me or jnr?? Also in yoga relaxation we are on our backs on the floor - it feels fine but should I be avoiding it?

  1. Antenatal classes - whats up with those??!! I have heard nothing about any yet - mw says I will be invited around week 32/34 ? Isnt that a bit late? I think MrsMc - you are gong to some already - are they private? and if so how did you find them?

  2. carrying heavy stuff - I am a total pack horse and am always carrying heavy bags -( doesnt help that we seem to be travelling/packing to go in the car about every 2 weeks at the moment - grrr) Is this thing about not lifting etc to protect me or jnr?

Finally (sorry - phew)
4) has anyone gone with a stokke sleepi cot? I have always wanted one (londonlottie and I used to dream shop them!!) Any feedback??? I am wondering if the oval mattress is a nightmare for sheets etc?

Right - off to yoga and then a building site ! back later when I promise to try and catch up with everyone's news etc.xxx

fettleandminifettle · 20/09/2007 08:56

Must add that the crochet hook was very much required unfortunately.

By far the worst bit of the whole experience according to DW last night!!

seaside72 · 20/09/2007 09:05

Oh rubbish - boo hiss for the crochet hook - sorry fettle I am wincing just thinking about it.

Bodkin · 20/09/2007 10:49

So I was right when I posted at 10.30 last night - she was snuggled up with Toby! awwwwww. am a bit weepy for the Fettles - must be so lovely to have him here all safe and sound, and mummy Fettle must be so relieved it is all over and she can now STOP WORRYING about how it's going to be and just get on with it! Thanks for keeping us updated Mr Fettle - and a big CONGRATULATIONS to you all. Hope DD is thrilled with her little brother!

Greedy - What do you mean you don't fancy me - i'm bloody gorgeous! Crikey love, you're up next!!!! Definitley keep DH at the top end. There is no need for him to see any gore. I kept mine away from the business end both times - I mean, I didn't see it, so why should he have to?! This is all sooo exciting! People are actually having babies on here again!

Seaside - here's some answers to your questions, as far as I know:

  1. I slept on my back for the first half of my pg - then got piles, and it soon made me stay on my left side after that But if you don't have any problems and it is comfortable, then I think its fine. When the bump gets really heavy you'll soon find you naturally start to sleep on your side.

  2. Didn't bother with AN classes this time round, but with DD1 they started at about 34-36 weeks. Some of the women didn't even finish the classes as they had their babies early. I think that's normal for the NHS ones, but you can book to go to NCT ones (they cost, though) which are quite good for meeting like-minded mums.

  3. You're not supposed to carry heavy stuff, but I always have done in both my pgs. If you're fit, and have no SPD or anything, I think it's fine in moderation. I did loads of lifting, bending and general activity right up until the end of my pg and had a really easy birth, so it can be beneficial to keep active.

  4. Don't know about the cot - but re oval mattress, if you get fitted cot sheets (elasticated edges) they pretty much fit round anything.

HTH!

How's everyone else today?

KitKat30 · 20/09/2007 10:57

Yippeee!!! Congrats Mr and Mrs Fettle!!! Extra special well done to Fettle for getting Toby out! Can't wait to hear all about the crochet hook...

Ahhhhh another little bub for us ladies - brings a tear to my eye

Bodders - I too kept DH away from the business end!! Didn't want him traumatised forever by whatever he saw down there!! He reassures me however, that I didnt poo.... he could be lying of course, but I definitely dont remember pooing....I think.

Argh! Joe is stirring - back later!!

KitKat30 · 20/09/2007 11:00

Why is it that they always re-settle themselves by the time you've legged it to the bedroom? And by the time you're back, they start up again?!?!

back shortly (again)

greedygreedyguzzler · 20/09/2007 11:06

i have been SO DESPERATE to get on here all morning and not had a second to myself........ARRGH!!! i knew i would miss the big announcement!!!

CONGRATS FETTLE & MR FETTLE!!! i am soooooooooooo happy for you! and just as well you didn't go to term cos he is quite a big boy!!!! we could have ended up with another Ty!!! hope you are recovering well!!! what does dd make of her new baby brother???

I AM SO JEALOUS!!!!!!!!!! so i guess i should get on and have my baby today seeing as i am only supposed to be a day behind you!!!............not likely i dont think!!!! cant wait to hear all the details!!!

seaside - 1) i dont think you need to worry about lying on your back unitl you are a bit further along and baby gets heavier. the baby can squash your aorta (your main artery from the heart) when you lie on your back and cut off some of your circulation to you and baby. but cos your aorta lies slightly on the left hand side of your body, if you put a pillow under your left hip when lying on your back it takes the pressure off and the baby squashes stuff on the right hand side which isn't a problem.
2) i had to wait for AGES to hear about antenatal classes when i was pg first time! i only had 3 with the NHS and they weren't till 34 wks, and i did 8 private classes through the NCT (which were fab and i would highly recommend). i had to phone up quite early and book those though so you should prob do that soon. the number must be on the internet!
3) i think the no carrying heavy stuff is to protect you, and i have taken NO NOTICE AT ALL of it!!! (just finished carrying/dragging a sofa through to the kids new playroom actually!!!)
4) stokke sleepi what!!!???? Can't help there i am afraid!!!!

KitKat30 · 20/09/2007 11:08

Hi Seaside - answers to your Qs:

1)Hmm not sure

  1. Antenatal classes - Yep your midwife is right - my hospital sent me details of my classes around 32/33 weeks (appts were for around 35 weeks) - so it doesnt happen for aaaaages.

  2. Take it easy I reckon - this is one time in your life when you have teh perfect excuse not to carry anything!!! I didnt lift so much as a toilet roll

  3. nope sorry hon!

Hmmm - not much use am I?!

greedygreedyguzzler · 20/09/2007 11:09

kitkat! i bet you DID poo!!!!! pooing in the birthing pool last time was the worst for me!!!
i said " yuk theres some poo!" and the (stupid bloody) midwife said " its yours you know love!!!"...................HOW STUPID DID SHE THINK I AM!!! i knew it was mine, just didn't fancy it bobbing around next to me thank you very much!!!!!!

Bodkin · 20/09/2007 11:09

Kitkat - what, did you get DH to do all the wiping for you?!

greedygreedyguzzler · 20/09/2007 11:10

PMSL BODDERS!!!

MrsMcJnr · 20/09/2007 11:10

Yeah, yeah, yeah Toby Fettle is here and what a lovely weight too many congratulations to all the Fettles ? I am over the moon for you!

greedygreedyguzzler · 20/09/2007 11:11

wow its busy on here now!!!

Bodkin · 20/09/2007 11:11

Grrr - charming midwife that one! I thought they were specially trained in poo discretion, both times there has been no evidence I have pooed, although I bet I did!

honeyapple · 20/09/2007 11:13

Congratulations to the Fettle family! Well done to you all . Ooohh, I can't believe it! Only seems like the other day that Fettle got her BFP.

Seaside-

Just like to add to Bodders answers that at my Yoga class the teacher always gets you to lie on your left side for relaxation bit... unless you are less than 16wks PG... you are more than that arent you? I think being on your back is bad for you... more likely to be constipated/ get piles etc. Try to stay on your left side is best advice.

Stokke cot- looks adorable... if you can afford one then go for it! They do the fitted sheets for the mattress dont they?

Iampg- can't believe your travel agent suggested magaluf! Better luck next time... and a villa holiday is a great idea. If you want to go to Majorca again I would recommend the north... much less touristy, gorgeous countryside.

honeyapple · 20/09/2007 11:17

Hello everybody! Exciting isnt it!
Greedy- you next girl!
Then me! Yikes!

KitKat30 · 20/09/2007 11:19

Poo in the birthing pool Greedy? Nice. The things we do to give birth!!! Eeekk - I just realised, you're next hon!!!! Exciting!!!

I DID NOT POO! I DID NOT POO! I DID NOT POO!

Bodkin · 20/09/2007 11:22

Kitkat, have just sprayed coffee all over the monitor thanks to your last post . And MrsmcJnr reckons she won't be talking about her fanny to all and sundry when she's had the baby! Its amazing how liberating it is really!

greedygreedyguzzler · 20/09/2007 11:25

WHY did she have her finger up your arse!!!???? i have never had that done before!!!!.............well, nothing to do with giving birth anyway!

KitKat30 · 20/09/2007 11:46

I know!!! I asked myself the same question - but sadly not at the time!!! I may be remembering this wrong of course... Maybe she was doing the usual examination ... ahhh now I remember her saying not to apologise, that it was because of something she was doing. I was obviously so traumatised by farting in the consultant's face, I remember it as her having her entire arm up my bum.

Embarrassed moi?! Never again! Having your legs in stirrups with approx 5 people in the room (none of whom you know) will do that to you!!!

MrsMcJnr · 20/09/2007 12:07

Hey Seaside

Let me test my knowledge on your questions ?

  1. If you sleep on your back, all your organs including your aorta are crushed by the baby from 16 weeks onwards and therefore you blood flow and oxygen distribution to your legs and the baby are compromised. If you wedge some pillows or cushions down your right side, they?ll stop you from rolling completely onto your back from your side and stop the problem. We were shown at our 16 week AN physio how to sleep on your front if you want to; ii involves lots of pillows and cushions between the legs and supporting the bump but is do-able. Physio did say that we should avoid being on our backs but clearly there are things like medical exams etc when you are. Do you have those foam bricks or anything at yoga, might be worth tilting your body by lying on them so you are laying a little upright? Sure Greedy can help on this loads!

  2. It?s all about disorganisation if you ask me ? I fought with my MW again yesterday to give me the dates and got really cross when she said they are ages away, they start at 32 weeks, I told her that wasn?t the point and that I just wouldn?t be able to go if I didn?t have the dates in my work diary soon so she reluctantly gave me a pre-printed sheet with all the dates on it!! no choice, all classes Antenatal classes are between 2 & 5 on a Monday afternoon. I have been to one AN physio class that my hospital put on and an Aqua natal class that a friend told me about too but nothing else. I am having real trouble trying to get into a NCT course. My advice is to keep badgering your MW for the dates!

  3. I think it is both, the relaxin in your muscles makes it easier for you to strain them and if something was really awkward or heavy you could rupture something I guess.

  4. Can?t help on that one ? what is it? Is it the crib that extends to a cot and then a bed? Saw them at the weekend ? it didn?t seem like all the bits got used again in the next shape though and you?d need a new mattress each time.

Ugggh ? poor Fettle not being spared that!

Agree with you all ? DH is to stay up the head end! He?s started reading a Dad?s thread on Baby Centre and I was so amused last night when he told me that a Dad had posted about the birth of his beautiful baby girl ? covered in slim and dark body hair and that she was the most beautiful thing ever. DH was aware of the slim (he thinks he won?t kiss the baby until its clean ? we?ll see!) but was freaked out by the hair and said he wanted a baby not a wookie (Star Wars rules his world) I explained that they can be hairy if premature but he still seemed concerned and I overhead him discussing it with his mate last night when he came over to watch the footie. The mate has a 10 year old son, who was 14 days late and weighed 11 pounds ? he told DH that in his book a hairy baby was a freak and that he shouldn?t let anyone tell him differently
