spugs · 18/07/2007 18:45

mum of monsters - its scary isnt it, ive got loads of cm and its sending me off to the bog every 5 minutes to check for blood.
fingers crossed their sticky

hotchoc · 18/07/2007 19:03

hi again, mumpbump i am so pleased to hear about your mum.
also, the mw was quite vague about whether they look for soft markers at 22 weeks and kept saying that this scan is only in case a serious heart defect or something is found so we can get prepared for it. i intend to get these soft markers checked out and, even though my stats will not change, i will hopefully be a bit further forward with any problems, should there be any. hotchoc

WinkyGirl · 18/07/2007 19:56

Hey MumofSlytherinsmonsters and spugs I am 5 weeks today and have been getting the same symptoms (cm and achey tum/hips) Like you say I think it is just the baby making itself comfy.

I have left a message with my lovely midwife begging for a viability scan at 8 weeks. Our MC was at 9.5 weeks but the baby had died 7-8 weeks. If she says no we can go private but £££££!

I am reading this thread everyday and it is giving me great comfort.

Feedmenow · 18/07/2007 19:59

Just wondering how many other people on here were unable to get an early scan on nhs so paid for one privately? At how many weeks did you have it done? Did it Really make you feel better?

mumofSlytherinsmonsters · 18/07/2007 20:01

winky, its reassuring some other people are going thru the same! I have sore boobs now too! Have never been sp hapy for symptoms before lol!

I can't get to Dr yet and i don't know how it works wrt referrals for early scans. We won't be going private as we can't afford it so unless i can get an early scan its 13 ish weeks for me

daisyandbabybootoo · 18/07/2007 20:19

Just a quick post re private scans.

We had one done at 9 weeks cos I couldn't wait for my NHS dating scan and had a drop in symptoms and was convinced I'd MC'd again. It cost £70 iirc for a viability scan......just incase anyone thought it was going to be much more, cos I know the 4d scans cost hundreds.

spugs · 18/07/2007 20:57

im at my docs tomorow and am going to try and twist his arm. if not then ill go private - any ideas how to find somewhere that does it?

bluebell82 · 18/07/2007 21:01

I had an early scan at 10 weeks to reassure me - paid £65 even got a dvd and 4d bit in it.. with mums in solihull.. worth every penny I have never been so relaxed plus all my symptoms disappeared at around 11 weeks and if Ihadn't of had the scan I would have be neurotic!

Jossiejump · 18/07/2007 21:19

Hi Hotchoc-at my 2 week scan they did routunely look for the soft markers (even though I'd had it done privately), it's just that the NHS machines aren't always as state of the art, it varies from area to area, and also that they can only say definately if the baby has downs (for example if a heart defect is picked up), theycan't tell definately not

Jossiejump · 18/07/2007 21:19

Sorry not 2 week, 20 week!!!

Katsh · 18/07/2007 21:20

I was on this thread asking the early scan question back in February! Now 28 wks. I did end up getting a private scan at 6 wks and it was the best thing. Research shows that reassurance is actually quite a big feature in succesful pregnancy after miscarriage, and I just felt that if the baby was not developing I didn't want to have to wait until 10wks as before, to discover that. I couldn't believe it when a heartbeat was there at 6. Of course it doesn't stop you worrying for the next few weeks, but for me it provided vital reassurance at a really important stage.

Glimmer!

Spugs ? it is an odd sensation isn?t it? Someone said to remember that blood is hot and CM isn?t! Hope you get somewhere with GP. Re private places ? why don?t you try your local part of this site? There might be local ladies to you who know where are you?

Hotchoc ? annoying that your MW was vague over something that is so important to you not sure but it sounds like the 22 week scan is a foetal anomaly scan and if so that is exactly what they are looking for, soft markers of things not being right, my consultant has already warned me that the purpose is specifically to look for things that might be wrong. Hopefully the scan will show nothing odd and serve to reassure you

Winkygirl ? fingers crossed you get that scan hon

Feedmenow ? we got scans at 6 and 8 weeks due to my medical condition and it was reassuring to see the baby. The 8 weeks was better because we could see the heartbeat. That said, the private nuchal that we paid for was worth every penny (that was at 13+2) because there was so much more to see. It did cost £190 but that was because of the screening element and the associated blood test and lab work. My advice would be to hold out as long as you can without going insane if you have to go private as you?ll see so much more if you are a bit further along and it does help reassure you That said, my dating scan is particularly late at 14+3 (it?s tomorrow) so that would have been a long time to wait if it was the first scan.

MumSM ? hang on in there hon

hello Daisy, Bluebell, Josie & Katsh

Hey Jules PMSL yes, I am having vivid dreams lots of dirty ones too hope the heartbeat is flashing away on the screen today sorry about the spotting, so annoying. How lovely is your DP

Hello Firsty all those good intentions hey? Have to say, I?ve ordered mine now because there are already questions in there that I should know how to answer and can?t remember! thank you for the compliment, you are sweet hon yeah 7 sleeps!!

Feedmenow · 19/07/2007 11:15

Thanks MrsMc. I have real mixed feelings about private scans. We had one in January as my dating scan seemed to be so far away, and that was when we found out about the m/c. I was thinking about it some more last night and realised that I will actually be really scared when it comes to a scan (whether it is nhs or private) cos I can still remember the picture of the little lost bubba so clearly. I know I'll just be petrified that we'll see the same again. I asked dp last night and he said he doesn't feel the need to have a private scan but that it is up to me, as if it makes me hapier then he'll be happy. So I asked him if I could have one every day!!!!! He said no!

Jules - how lovely is your dp... Your post made me feel all emotional. What a gorgeous thing to do!!

Uki - hope your scan goes well and that you get some good piccies. Is it a routine scan or an extra one? Not sure what the system is in Oz!

MrsMcJnr - hope your dating scan goes well! Can't believe you're already 14 weeks. It's amazing how time is zipping past now...

MOSM - I think that af-like pains are quite common at the time when your period would have been due, so hth.

Feedmenow - quite a few people on here have invested in dopplers. They won't pick up a hb until a bit later on, but can then be used to provide daily reassurance. Perhaps it might be worth considering. If it is any consolation, I reckon that scans are absolutely terrifying for obvious reasons so you're not alone in your feeling.

Spugs - do a google search for "antenatal scans" with your county and I think you'll find some private clinics. It certainly brought some up for me in our area when I was considering this.

Hotchoc - fingers crossed that everything is okay at your 22 week scan then. I got quite nervous about this one as, courtesy of MN, I am so much more aware of potential problems nowadays. When is your scan?

Glimmer - I like the name Tian. Is it a boy's or girl's name and what is its origin? At the moment, we're thinking of Alexander James for a boy and Elinor [to be decided] for a girl, but I'm not particularly sold on either as I like unusual names. Ds' second name is Rohan which I chose...

Hello to everyone else! Feeling much better today although I am apparently mildly anaemic so have to pick up a prescription from the doctor's. I've heard that iron supplements can cause havoc with your digestive system so am going to try to increase the iron in my diet naturally, ie. by munching lots of dried apricots, before I go down that road. Certainly explains why the 'flu laid me out so badly!! But at least it can be remedied so quite happy about that!!

MrsMcJnr · 19/07/2007 11:39

Feedmenow ? every day would be reassuring. I am terrified each time we get a scan, I have to admit. My 8 week was the same room and sonographer who gave us the bad news about our lost one, I started to shake when I saw it was her Let?s hope all scan experiences in the future are happy ones

Good idea Mumpbump hope the iron helps. Floradix is a natural iron supplement that you can buy in health shops. I took it after my MC. No side effects.

VV ? hope all goes well tomorrow hon

another good non hideous iron supplement is spatone 100% natural iron supplement, it somes in a liquid form to be mixed with fruit juice , vit c helps the iron to be taken up from the body. hoep that helps hotchocx
