Thanks @snowy1982 - to be honest I find them a bit creepy too! Expecially early on. But for the price and what you get it seemed to good to turn down. Might just see if I can change it for a 2D reassurance scan with gender (I’m too impatient! =D), although it’s not much difference in price! 18 weeks tomorrow and worrying about not feeling baby so wanted to get a little reassurance.

CJ1990 · 05/04/2018 09:16

Oh no idea about prams! I had a friend send me a pic of one that was on sale and she asked if I wanted it. Raised more questions with me Than answers 😂 still in the dark!

snowy1982 · 05/04/2018 09:25

I’m 18w tomorrow as well @CJ1990 and not feeling a thing so we’re in the same boat. After yesterday’s panic (which I am certain now was caused by the constipation and nothing else) DH has suggested I contact the fertility clinic at the hospital and see if I can get another scan in, the MW there told me I can get scanned anytime, but I feel guilty about abusing the already overstretched NHS so don’t think I will. I keep telling myself I have only 2.5 weeks until next scan so i’m nearly there

CJ1990 · 05/04/2018 09:37

@snowy1982 I’m exactly the same. Keep wanting to ring the midwife to see if she will let me come in and hear the heart beat, but I don’t want to bug her when she will have people with more important problems ringing her. She’s very busy. She said I could, but I still feel too guilty to do it.
I was told by her not to worry until it gets to 22weeks, so I’m just trying to hold out! At least we don’t have too long for the scans, even if it feels like it :) and if we’re both not feeling anything then it must be normal :)

snowy1982 · 05/04/2018 09:45

@CJ1990 I do think it’s normal, we are both on our first (aren’t we?) and everything I’ve read says that means we’ll feel it later. Also there are so many other factors involved, like where the placenta is.

I know it’s hard not too worry, I worry about it too, I just said to DH over the weekend that i’d feel much better if I had some sort of sign that things are progressing as they should ie movement or even my bump popping (I still just look like I’m putting on weight rather than pregnant), but on the flip side of that I did say that once I felt movement then that would be something else for me to worry about ie monitoring it, so for now I am trying to be content to wait it out

itallhappensforareason · 05/04/2018 10:50

Not feeling baby yet is absolutely normal! I'm 18w today and still not felt anything but have read that some people don't feel anything until around 24w and a regular pattern of movement can take until 28w. There is nothing to worry about at all!

CJ1990 · 05/04/2018 11:31

@snowy1982 yeah I’m on my first too :)
Definitely hard not to worry! I don’t feel pregnant at all to be honest and the bump is pretty non-existent!
Ha yeah I said that too my husband too. Least a positive is that we will have a few less weeks worrying about counting movement than others! My friend felt hers move at 17 weeks and has been worrying about movement ever since x

CJ1990 · 05/04/2018 11:33

Thanks @itallhappensforareason :) in my head I know it’s normal, but think I’m just too much of a worrier :) pregnancy has made me crazy, I’m usually so laid back! I like to think anyway!! Haha

snowy1982 · 05/04/2018 11:53

@CJ1990, I am a worrier about everything so I am actually proud of myself so far, I thought i’d have been much much worse. I know I have had my moments but I am generally keeping myself calm(ish)

itallhappensforareason · 05/04/2018 12:49

I'm the opposite - I'm normally a complete worrier about EVERYTHING but with this pregnancy I am quite laid back. It was unplanned and a big surprise so I think because of that I'm just taking it all as it comes Grin

niclw · 05/04/2018 13:18

@snowy1982 I know what you mean about Moses basket vs next to me crib. I keep swinging back and forth between them. I had decided on Moses then a friend very strongly recommended next to me. My mum gave the argument that they are expensive though. I'm seeing another friend later so might ask what she did with her two. I think I'll end up with a Moses basket though. I saw a really good quality one in John Lewis that was only £35.

claire7930 · 05/04/2018 13:28

I've ordered a Next2Me this week on a deal on the Bounty app - the crib plus 3 fitted sheets for about £140. My friend is giving me her moses basket but I often suffer with a bad back so didn't want to keep carrying that up & down the stairs each night & morning, especially when OH is on nights. So I'll keep the crib upstairs & the moses basket downstairs.

Sushirolls · 05/04/2018 14:06

@deste my DD is due on 8th Sept and has felt what she thinks may have been a couple of flutters, but said she felt a definite kick the night before last - very exciting and reassuring! Is this your first grandchild? It is for me officially, but my son has a gf who has a toddler, so we obviously treat her as part of the family too x

Welcome @SunnyRae 🙂

@niclw my DD has started suffering with insomnia too 🤪

@CJ1990 I have bought my DD a gift voucher from Groupon for a 4D ultrasound gift package. They only scan for as long as necessary and wouldn't legally be allowed to put your baby in danger x

My DD has her "16 week" appt next week, when she will be 19 weeks as they couldn't fit her in. Her BF will visiting, so I'm hoping the mw will listen to the heartbeat, so that he gets to hear it x he hasn't managed to be at her scans yet, so it will be lovely for him Smile

Re travel systems, my DD has bought one from a local seller for £30 - it's a Graco with pushchair that lies flat, car seat & isofix, rain covers & umbrella/cosytoes etc

I have just bought her the Chicco next to me crib too Smile it was on offer in VERY. Her cot bed/mattress is being delivered today. Again, we bought it early as it was in the sale... House is slowly filling up with baby items!! 🙈😂

Hope everyone is well Flowers xo

Just think it's worth pointing out this article on whether scans are dangerous:

www.nhs.uk/news/pregnancy-and-child/warning-over-souvenir-baby-scans/

If you read the article closely and look at the evidence cited it all essentially says, there is no danger that has ever been established by a randomised, controlled medical study (ie, high quality and worth paying any attention too). It is a very safe diagnostic tool. I would hate for anyone to worry unnecessarily about this. Likewise about dopplers to hear heart beats--the reason it is not recommended that you use a home doppler is not due to danger caused by the doppler but rather because without medical training, you may misinterpret the results and 1. worry unnecessarily or 2. get false reassurance when other symptoms would indicate you should get in touch with your MW.

CJ1990 · 05/04/2018 14:38

@SeattleKate ooh thanks for That! I ended up caving and cancelling it..didn’t want to lose my deposit though so have Just changed it to a 2D gender scan! :) Wasn’t worth the hassle with my mum to be honest haha. I also looked at the 3D pics at 18 weeks and they’re a little scary...! So I’m hoping To book on at 28 weeks :) it’s sad there is a lot of scare mongering / judgement already about things tho.

I do get the Doppler thing..my friend has one which she used for her pregnancy. She tried it on me last week and I couldn’t hear a heart beat! Was expecting not to in all honesty, so luckily didn’t worry me too much. Also, my friend said she heard it, but I was sceptical! Didn’t sound anything like the midwifes one did..and didn’t sound like a heart beat to me! But I guess I don’t know what I’m listening for, which is also the problem x

SeattleKate · 05/04/2018 14:47

@CJ1990 I got a bit worried because we had a bunch of scans done privately because of the Harmony test and I spoke to a paediatrician friend about it to try to understand what the potential danger could possibly be and there answer was there is nothing confirmed or even really hinted at. There is just SO much misinformation on the internet and even the NHS article at the face of it, makes it sound dire but it's really not!

There's just so much to worry about, anything we can cross off the list is good :).

Apparently the not listening to the heart beat thing is also not because it's "too early", it's because without an ultrasound to see what position the baby is in, the MW/DR can't see what the baby's position is or whether the placenta is potentially blocking it so can't always find it quickly and it can again, cause unnecessary worry for parents to be. Obviously my experience doesn't apply to everyone but for all of our scans (4) the baby was not cooperative and the doctor had to wait a while for it to roll around to get to a location where the heart was in a good position before switching on the doppler. No issues at all hearing it when the baby was in a decent position, even at 8 1/2 weeks. Totally not stressful on an ultrasound when you can see it wiggling around and know it's fine but potentially very stressful if it's just your stomach with no internal visual!

ichifanny · 05/04/2018 17:19

I’ve put a deposit down for a bugaboo bee want something compact and lightweight , never got the carry cot as you don’t use them for long just the baby nest you can use with the pushchair flat as heard they are great .

SunnyRae · 05/04/2018 19:18

I don't know if any of you have toys r us near you but I just bought the silver cross pioneer for 370 which I thought was a bargain in the closing down sale. They have so much stuff 40 % off. Car seats 50% off. Def worth a look!
I am thinking of getting the next to me as my son grew out of his moses basket at 12 weeks so I thought I might get the next to me for upstairs and keep the Moses basket downstairs as I am having a planned c section at 37/38 weeks.

niclw · 06/04/2018 11:33

Just got back from midwife appt. Heard the heartbeat although she struggled at first as the baby kept moving. Have definitely been feeling baby moving as while she prodded with the Doppler got a kick where she was doing it. I thought I'd felt something on Friday last week but had felt more like bubbles popping up but I wasn't sure. I've only felt something a few times and 3 days apart so didn't expect a kick like that this morning. Downside from visit was that I've definitely got to have anti-d injection 😡

snowy1982 · 06/04/2018 11:51

@niclw that’s great re HB and kick, not so nice re injection, but 2 our of 3 ain’t bad.

How far along are you?

niclw · 06/04/2018 12:01

@snowy1982 I'm 17 weeks and 3 days. I said to her that I wasn't expecting to feel anything yet and her reply was that it depends on the baby's position. She said some babies are so well tucked up that even though they are moving around lots the mum doesn't feel a thing.

snowy1982 · 06/04/2018 12:19

I’m wondering if my extra ‘padding’ from pre BFP is making my wee one extra extra tucked up Grin

SiolGhoraidh · 06/04/2018 12:31

@niclw I had the same at my 16 week appt, a whopping great kick under the doppler.

@snowy1982 apart from the doppler kick, I've only felt a couple of flutters (usually after lunch) , nothing strong. I am a very cuddly lady so I expect Spud is very well insulated!

CJ1990 · 06/04/2018 12:32

18 weeks tomorrow and still nothing! Worrying too much so got a private scan. As much as people tell
Me it’s normal, just can’t relax!

snowy1982 · 06/04/2018 12:38

When’s your scan @CJ1990?

I do worry about not feeling anything yet but at the same time I know there are so many reasons why i’m not feeling anything so I manage to calm myself down.

Although the last few nights in bed I have felt something like trapped wind, but not quite the same so have been wondering if that is maybe the little one, but then I remind myself I have been having some issues with constipation and that is probably all i’m feeling.

2 weeks next Monday to my scan so all will become clear then
