@niclw, I have tentatively booked a place in a nursery, my sil works in one so we’re just sending LO to that one, she only works afternoons so she’ll take baby in morning and bring them in with her in the afternoon. She spoke to her boss (who happened to live a few doors up from me when I was younger) and she said we’d be ok to wait until baby is born before putting name down officially

itallhappensforareason · 11/05/2018 08:35

Good luck for Monday @niclw. I am sure they will be able to complete all their checks with such an early appointment. 👍

DH felt our little boy for the first time last night, think he was a bit chuffed 😊😊 they are still not "proper" kicks, feel more like a muscle twitch but they are gradually getting stronger!

surreygirl1987 · 11/05/2018 12:57

Re nurseries I think it depends a lot on your area and also if you really want a specific nursery (ie you already have a child goinf there). Some areas/nurseries fill up quickly but in other areas there's always places. Don't panic! Might be worth ringing up a local nursery though and getting the lay of the land to find out your local situation :)

surreygirl1987 · 11/05/2018 12:58

By the way - finally feeling kicks now, as of last week! I realise now I was feeling them since week 17 or 18 without realising it (felt like rumbling stomach). It's nice and reassuring... but also kind of distracting and annoying!

niclw · 11/05/2018 17:13

@Ktn35 As @surreygirl1987 suggested I would ring and find out the lay of the land with local nurseries. I need to use a nursery in the coastal town where I work and my HR manager advised me to ring them as she heard they get fully booked. The one I visited yesterday said that they tend to be fully booked for September every year and I would only get a place in April if I reserved.

Ktn35 · 11/05/2018 20:14

It's too much! I am going to have forget nurseries for a while! Totally overwhelmed! Had scan today and found out it's a girl! We weren't going to but when it came to the crunch we had no willpower! @niclw I have to go back because of wiggly baby too! All good but they want to just get more precise measurements in 2 weeks. Also I think my chubby belly didn't help 😩

niclw · 11/05/2018 20:20

@Ktn35 Congratulations on your girl. I hope you get all of your measurements the next time. If my baby is not curled into a ball on Monday I will be asking them to repeat the measurements from this week as I don't trust the Sonographer that I had. I think i must have been spoilt with my first scan as the sonographer was lovely for that one. I hope I get her on Monday.

Ktn35 · 11/05/2018 20:34

@niclw I would. We have been lucky and while they have be very businesslike they have been good so far.

Here's a random question but on my scan notes with all my baby's details it says that ethnicity is 'white british.' Now does this mean the baby or me? I am white British but my partner is black African British. He was there with me at the scan and so it's actually a little offensive! It did those notes come from my booking appointment and they just made an assumption about my partner's race?! Or is it just my ethnicity being recorded?!

niclw · 11/05/2018 21:25

@Ktn35 I would assume that it means your ethnicity. I think I'd ask the midwife when you see her though.

surreygirl1987 · 11/05/2018 23:40

I think that's yours. Scans also often say 'female' at the top but again that's not the baby that's necessarily a girl... It's you! I think it's because they use that equipment for othet things than just pregnancy scans so it usually has the patient's personal details.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong:)

BlueBug45 · 12/05/2018 00:38

@surreygirl1987

When I was in the scan room other pregnant patients details came up on the screen before mine came up and all the details corresponded to the mother. Plus I was told a long time ago that fetuses and immediately when babies are born they are referred to by the mother's details.

Ktn35 · 12/05/2018 08:13

Ah ok thanks! I did think it was odd given that my clearly black partner was standing there! 😂

Ktn35 · 13/05/2018 20:08

Any sciatica sufferers here? As soon as the sickness stopped, this started! Any advice?! X

niclw · 14/05/2018 13:20

Had my 3rd 20 week scan this morning and thankfully they were able to complete it. All is good. Also got a good description of the position it was in at that moment

itallhappensforareason · 14/05/2018 16:57

Yay pleased to hear @niclw - finally!

snowy1982 · 14/05/2018 17:24

That’s great @niclw

Sorry @Ktn35, I’ve no experience of sciatica

Katjolo · 14/05/2018 20:11

Great news @niclw

SeattleKate · 15/05/2018 18:15

Is anyone else getting kicks/pressure really low down? Sometimes it feels like I’m being kicked in the cervix, kind of like a smear test from the wrong side! Very disconcerting and a bit uncomfortable!

niclw · 15/05/2018 18:55

I've been getting loads of kicks low down but not as far as the cervix. I've heard of that happening though.

My baby seems to enjoy kicking my bladder at the minute in particular. I'm guessing this will only get worse as it grows.

Ktn35 · 15/05/2018 19:19

I wish I could feel mine 😩

Ktn35 · 15/05/2018 19:20

20+4 and nothing 😩

niclw · 15/05/2018 19:30

@Ktn35 It will happen soon. Do you have an anterior placenta? My friend was telling me that with her two pregnancies she had one anterior and one posterior placenta. She said with the anterior placenta it took a long time to feel any movements and when she did they were more cushioned due to the placenta. But she found it easier later in pregnancy as it wasn't as uncomfortable when the baby moved around.

bluees · 15/05/2018 20:25

I am 22+3 weeks and since last week I an having right eye upper lid twitching. Its so annoying. Do not know what to do. Feel like crying now 🙁 anyone else have this problem or any advices to make it goooo away 🤬

Thanks

dinomad · 16/05/2018 13:41

SeattleKate I get that a lot, it really hurts!! I don't know if it's pressure on the bladder or bottom of the uterus but it bloody hurts!!! I feel like my stomach has dropped a lot like I'm driving fast down a hill

snowy1982 · 16/05/2018 14:08

@bluees, I have had that on and off for years, for me it comes on whenever I am really run down. My DH gets it when he is run down as well so maybe, if work commitments allow/permit, take a couple days off and just rest, see if that helps
