No one has commented on personal things like that but I am getting a lot of baby advice, which is all really helpful but I feel as though some people force it upon you. You MUST buy this, you NEED to buy that. I just kind of want to find my own feet and do what I want to do, not what everyone else did.

DariaG · 11/04/2018 14:17

@CJ1990 I have a friend who is paranoid about my pregnancy (as I had a MC before and she was through that as well) and always asks me about the kicks..
And I have another friend who gave birth two months ago and patronizing me Grin Seriously, every conversation starts with "you know, I don't appreciate people giving me advice, but take it as my recommendation..." so I've been instructed on breastfeeding and sleep schedule, meanwhile I'm not sure I'm ready to look at baby prams yet.

AyeAyeFishyPie · 11/04/2018 14:23

Oh goodness yes. I found a babygro the other day that said 'mummy doesn't want your advice'. So tempted to buy it - just wish they had a t-shirt version for pregnant women!
'You're eating a lot today' - FUCK OFF!

itallhappensforareason · 11/04/2018 14:39

Anyone got annoyed with people buying things for baby already as well? My MIL has been buying clothes which is lovely of her and I know she is excited about being a grandmother for the first time, but she's chosen them all on her own based on what she likes whereas I think it would be nice to consult us first and see if we actually like it for a start, and if we actually want it.

My FIL and his partner have mentioned buying things like toys etc but just to keep at their house so that when they are on babysitting duty baby has things there, rather than having to move everything backwards and forwards, which I am completely fine with. And they asked us first if that was ok.

niclw · 11/04/2018 14:56

I've had a lot of advice type comments from my mum. Last night it was make sure that you are talking to the baby and stroking your tummy. I've previously had comments such as make sure you don't eat green potatoes (I never do anyway).

@itallhappensforareason I would be getting annoyed with people buying things too if they haven't first.

missamy94 · 11/04/2018 14:56

@snowy1982 and @PinkyPromise77 my stomach still feels a little bit dodgy like something isn't sitting right but I've had no diarrhoea today and no sickness (yet) so hopefully was just a one off and don't need to ring MW

itallhappensforareason · 11/04/2018 15:12

@niclw have you been talking to baby and stroking your tummy? My midwife asked me this at my 16 week appt (I'm guessing so they can see if you are bonding ok with your baby) and my answer was no. I haven't talked to baby yet as quite frankly I just find it a bit weird. I sometimes stroke my belly but not often and when I do it's only brief. As I can't feel baby move yet I feel a bit silly doing these things.

Anyone else?!

CJ1990 · 11/04/2018 15:12

I’ve luckily not had anyone buy anything yet. Early on I told everyone I don’t want anything before 20 weeks! We did get a huge pile of clothes when we were just 7 weeks (from my husbands boss who new that early on as I had an early scan due to a bleed which he took time off for) which was really nice of him. We didn’t want anything so early but it was have them now or they’re being thrown out :) husband got excited when we found out the gender and came home with a teddy bless..couldn’t be mad as it was very sweet! 😊

Glad it’s not just the crazy people around me making comments! Trying to learn to ignore them 😊

DariaG · 11/04/2018 15:26

I've just received some clothes from my DH's grandmother. My MIL asked her not to send anything as it is too early and we don't know the gender yet, but here they are - a pair of white gloves, socks and a knitted white hat with a wonderful lace rose on it.. what if I'm having a boy? Grin But I'm not annoyed tbh, I think I'll just prepare a very special box for all the "thoughtful" presents and will keep it down in the cellar.
@itallhappensforareason I always thought that it's appropriate to ask whether the gift is wanted unless you are sure it is, it was a common practice in my family. My DH's family has a different opinion on that, a gift should be a surprise and it doesn't really matter if it's a good one or a bad one Grin

niclw · 11/04/2018 15:54

@itallhappensforareason I do speak to the baby every so often. Particularly when I'm driving. Just little things like "shall we go home now?" Or "are you alright in there?" If I'm sat on the sofa I tend to have my hand over my belly but not stroking it.

I've been feeling the baby move for about a week and a half. I got worried earlier as I hadn't felt anything all day. My midwife said when I saw her to expect it though as baby has a lot of space to move around and hide. I was very relieved to feel a bubble popping sensation a few mins ago.

snowy1982 · 11/04/2018 16:18

@missamy I seem to have inherited your dodgy tummy today Sad

@itallhappens I talk to baby sometimes, very random stuff, but I also talk to my dogs so talking to the baby doesn’t seem odd to me Grin

itallhappensforareason · 11/04/2018 17:59

@snowy oh I have full blown conversations with my dog 😂 maybe I'm not coming to terms with the pregnancy as much as I thought. All in good time I suppose. I am looking forward to being able to feel baby move though.

CJ1990 · 11/04/2018 18:19

@itallhappensforareason I’m
Exactly the same :) I do rub my belly, but I don’t feel her move yet, so I think that’s why I’m still a little reserved about things! X

DariaG · 11/04/2018 19:40

And I rub! But don't really talk, but I play music very often, I've heard it helps Smile

Doll87 · 12/04/2018 07:57

Can I just ask, how much weight has everyone put on? Im 16weeks tomo and have put nearly a stone on! I've been eating healthy but admittedly have been treating myself to sweet treats. I'm an average size 10 but my face just looks so massive! To me, the whole bloody stone looks like it's in my big fat moon face! I start back at the gym next week (swimming and light Gym Work)...I can't wait because although I'm aware it's totally normal to put weight on, I can't help avoiding mirrors and feeling slightly sad at my appearance 🙈🙈🙈

snowy1982 · 12/04/2018 08:28

@doll87, I couldn’t tell you how much I’ve put on as I haven’t been weighing myself. When I first got BFP I did weigh myself to get a baseline (although at that stage I was heavier than I usually am due to effects of fertility drugs and the aftermath of a torn muscle that reduced my exercising ability). I then was weighed at my booking in appointment and had put on 4lbs (which I was happy enough with) but haven’t weighed myself or been weighed at appointments since. I imagine I have put on a bit more but don’t think it’s too bad so far

CJ1990 · 12/04/2018 09:03

I’m 19 weeks tomorrow and have put on 10 pounds. Not sure if that’s ok or not but not too worried! Think everyone is different. I wouldn’t worry too much x

itallhappensforareason · 12/04/2018 09:32

There's not a chance I'm stepping on the scales at any point during this pregnancy (or for a while afterwards either 😂). I started with high BMI anyway so the damage is already done. I wouldn't worry about it anyway, everyone is different and as long as you are leading a healthy ish lifestyle it's totally ok.

PinkyPromise77 · 12/04/2018 10:04

I wouldn't worry @doll87. Everyone is different. I had severe sickness and I am still occasionally sick so at almost 18 weeks I only put on about 2 pounds but for some weird reason I suddenly seem to have a lot of fat on my belly... I mean I know it wasn't there before so looks like this is where it's all going at the moment. Hehehe someone said oh you starting to show trying to stroke my belly I'm like... dude it's my fat.... LOL!! His face :D

OP posts:
snowy1982 · 12/04/2018 13:10

@itallhappens, I won’t be stepping on them at home again either, if MW wants to weigh me fair enough but i’m not annoying myself about it at home

DariaG · 12/04/2018 13:16

@Doll87 I gained almost a stone too. Were you weighing yourself regularly? I was weighing myself every week and I've noticed that at week 16 I gained 5 pounds! just in one week. I'm pretty sure it's water, maybe that's why you notice it on your face, it's just puffy. But I admit, I also panicked and now I swim once a week and try to walk a bit more Smile
I am 18+4 now and haven't gained any more weight.

EllMae · 12/04/2018 13:37

Hi everyone! Our baby is due on 21st September and we are so excited. We are going for the gender scan 3 weeks and I was just wondering if you're planning to keep it a secret until the baby is born or if you are going to tell people? This is my first baby and although my partner's son (aged 5) lives with us, I am still very nervous! When are you all planning to take Maternity leave? x

bearface1983 · 12/04/2018 13:45

Hi everyone. I am 18 weeks today. Due on My Husbands birthday 13/9. I am pretty anxious but hoping to find some friends here xxx

SiolGhoraidh · 12/04/2018 13:56

@itallhappensforareason I've been chatting away to my bump since about the 8 week mark, same as I do to the dog. But then, I tend to talk or sing to myself anyway. I am aware that this makes me sound like a nutter...

I figure it can only help to get baby used to my voice, especially as I tend to chat in my second language and hope to continue using it post delivery. Trying to get husband to join in as well - he actually sat next to me last night and asked the bump how it was, so we're getting there!

@AyeAyeFishyPie got a link to that babygro? I think I need it!

Gracey88 · 12/04/2018 14:29

@EllMae hi and congratulations, this is my first baby too and I'm going to do a gender reveal, have a bbq and have family and friends over. I think it'd be fun and a nice for us all to find out
