@Gracey88 Hiya - Congratulations to you too! That sounds like such a lovely idea and nice way to tell family/friends. Smile Are you waiting to but things until after you've found out? x

itallhappensforareason · 12/04/2018 15:01

@EllMae first baby here too! Yeah we are going to tell everyone the sex when we find out. People want to start buying gifts for baby so it makes it easier if they know what sex it is. I don't think I'd be able to keep it quiet either, would probably slip a "he" or "she" into conversation without realising and give the game away. Not going to do a gender reveal or anything though.

I'm probably going to use up my 25 days holiday right before I go on maternity leave, so that will be all of August and my actual maternity leave will start first week of September.

EllMae · 12/04/2018 15:09

@itallhappensforareason Yeah I think it would be so hard to keep quiet, especially as it is such an exciting time. I also know that my step-son will be dying to know and being only 5, he will want to tell everyone haha.

I hadn't thought of tagging my holiday onto my maternity leave but definitely something that I am going to look at!! Because it's the 1st baby you don't really know what to expect, how long is best to take off etc. All I know is that at the moment I am absolutely shattered and falling to sleep at 9pm every night so will probably be even worse when i'm 30+ weeks. x

Sushirolls · 12/04/2018 15:14

Wow, lots of new mummies since I last posted, hello & congratulations Flowers Hope everyone is well x

My DD will find out if I'm having a grandson or granddaughter on 23rd & I'm holding a baby shower/reveal for her, in June Smile her BF wants to tell his mum in person & doesn't feel it fair for anyone else to know before her (Inc me), hence the reveal when everyone is together for the shower.

Generally, my DD has been doing well, but I think she may have had a small sz last night 😢 She has mw tomorrow, so will ask advice. She's been sz/med free for a few years now, but GP said it could return with pregnancy 😢 Hopefully, it's just a one off as she was extremely exhausted.

Have a great afternoon, everyone xo

@SiolGhoraidh I just read your post about talking to your bump in your second language, that's so awesome! Continue doing that once your baby is born we speak 3 languages between us and my nearly 5 year old speaks all 3 which the health visitor advises against as she said he will only get confused! We will do the same with bump will be fun to see what the kids decide to talk to each other!

Is anyone still suffering with morning sickness? I have been on the sofa feeling very sorry for myself all afternoon with horrendous nausea Envy

sososotired · 12/04/2018 16:23

@EllMae :) this is my second baby I have a 5 year old son too! I found first time round that it's easier (personally) to know what the sex is do you can get ready but that said I'm a control freak!

Just been catching up on everything from today. I had a spa day today. Was a different experience being told to sit for the massage. Didn't seem to be as effective but was still good. I missed getting in the jacuzzi though so maybe next year instead if my dad will babysit.

dinomad · 12/04/2018 20:08

Hi ladies, I'm hoping it's ok to join, I am due on 19th September :) Just wondering if anyone else has had extremely sharp abdo pain? I have suffered from minor abdo pain since the start of pregnancy but it always goes away and doesn't hurt much. Last night had extremely severe pain in my left abdo, phoned the medicom midwife line for advice as we were so worried about the baby. They told me to phone 111, was referred to the local out of hours, they thought I had a UTI, that was negative so was sent home. Wasn't better today so phoned again, ended up at a&e, eventually got seen by ob gyn and had a scan. Baby is fine thank goodness but they have no idea what the pain is, they say it maybe round ligament but I've had that before and it feels nothing like this!!

dinomad · 12/04/2018 20:09

Sorry for such a long post!!! Am just worried!!!

SeattleKate · 12/04/2018 20:29

@dinomad where in your left abdo was it? I previously had a big problem with IBS causing pain lower left side, just above the crease for your leg. It’s been fully under control for years since giving up gluten but all the dodgy digestion from pregnancy has made it flare up a bit. When I had the pain I can only describe it as like being stabbed, it was excruciating. It’s in a similar location where I now have round ligament pain so potentially could be easily confused by dr looking for something more obviously pregnancy related?

snowy1982 · 12/04/2018 20:30

Welcome @dinomad, I have had some sharp abdominal pains although I don’t think they have been as severe as yours seem to have been so I’m not in the best place to advise. You had a scan and baby is fine so try and take comfort/reassurance from that, but don’t be afraid to contact them again if your still concerned. Maybe even make an appointment with GP as it may not be baby related.

dinomad · 12/04/2018 20:46

@SeattleKate that is the same location as mine and the pain sounds exactly the same!! I haven't been diagnosed with ibs but have suffered from regular upset stomachs for a few years now. The Dr last night that I saw suggested I take buscopan which is for ibs as paracetamol isn't working but I'm a bit worried about taking that as it say on the packet do not take if pregnant

dinomad · 12/04/2018 20:49

snowy1982 thanks, yes the main thing is the baby is ok, me and my partner were so worried something was wrong so to see the baby moving on the scan was such a relief!! Think I'll stay at home tomorrow and reat and hope it gets better for work next week :)

SeattleKate · 13/04/2018 00:58

@dinomad Paracetamol did absolutely nothing for me, the only things that helped were Buscopan (sometimes) and cocodamol which I hate taking and is a big no no during pregnancy anyway! Ultimately diet changes were what made a difference for me, and it was totally worth it. The pain was unbearable! If it doesn't improve soon, it might be worth looking at the FODMAP diet and seeing if reducing some of those foods helps but definitely ask your dr/MW about it because it does restrict things a lot and you'd want to make sure you're still getting the nutrients you need! If you want to PM me I'm happy to discuss more, it was super hard to get any kind of helpful diagnosis when I went through it.

polkadotpixie · 13/04/2018 06:18

@SeattleKate Why is cocodamol a no-no? I've got prescriptions for both that and straight codeine for sciatica and the doctor said it was fine? Can it cause problems?

SeattleKate · 13/04/2018 07:00

@polkadotpixie I'm really sorry, I should've put that differently. I think cocodamol is like most medications, just something to be discussed with dr. before use during pregnancy. If your dr. prescribed it, I'm sure it's ok!
@dinomad I meant to say same thing for Buscopan, I've not needed it yet so not discussed it with my dr. but when I looked into it before, what I came across seemed to suggest it wasn't definitely a problem, they just recommend we don't take anything without asking first!

SiolGhoraidh · 13/04/2018 08:15

Cheers @sososotired It'll be very interesting to see what your children speak to each other!
There is bit of a debate going on atm as family and husband think I should speak French to Bump, it being more 'useful'. I think unless they're willing to learn enough French to do it too, they need to mind their own beeswax!

DariaG · 13/04/2018 08:54

@sososotired We're also speaking 3 languages at home, never heard about it being confusing for a baby though, why would the health advisor suggest that?Hmm I guess I need to look into it a bit more, would you suggest any reading materials??

dinomad · 13/04/2018 09:17

@SeattleKate yes I looked at buscopan and it does look that way, don't think they've tested it so can't recommend it in pregnancy in case they get sued!! I did look into IBS a few years ago and fodmap but it seemed to get better so didn't go any further, I may well pm you if thats ok :) pain is a lot less now so I'm hoping a day of rest helps to relieve it :) thankyou!!!!!

sososotired · 13/04/2018 09:56

@DariaG children who are multi or bi lingual sometimes take longer to start talking but when they do they often come out with all the languages at once!
The best advise I got to reduce confusion is stick to one language not mix them while talking to the baby/ child when it's young so in our case I only spoke English to my DS my mum and dad only spoke Afrikaans and my husband only polish now DS is multilingual and can switch between languages with the greatest of ease!

I did some reading on google, but mostly I spoke to some early years professionals but they all suggested the younger the child is when you introduce a language the easier it is for them there are loads of studies that suggest that it's good for brain development too!
I guess it depends on health visitors too ours was an absolute b£?£h lol she made me feel like everything I did was wrong!

niclw · 13/04/2018 15:22

I've just accidentally eaten some soft cheese in a restaurant. I didn't think about what cheese they were putting into the sauce and realised after a couple of mouthfuls. I stopped eating it then (it was not nice anyway). Should I be worried?

niclw · 13/04/2018 15:25

I've just checked the nhs website and it says that soft cheeses are ok if they have been cooked which it was phew! Was really worried.

dinomad · 13/04/2018 15:33

@niclw yes you're fine, its unpasteurised cheese that can be a problem but they say cream cheese or cottage cheese etc should be fine :) They say even if you have eaten something you shouldn't not to worry even though you do! I use the ovia app. Although it's American (some foods called different names etc), but it has a food checker which had been great when we've eaten out :)

niclw · 13/04/2018 15:40

Thanks @dinomad

Ktn35 · 13/04/2018 19:04

I think (Think!) it's just the risk of listeria and as far as I can see pregnant women are no more likely to catch it from cheese/meat etc. than anyone else it's just that if you do the consequences can be dangerous. I personally know nobody who has has ever had listeria but I'm steering clear of the soft stuff because if something did happen I don't want to spend the rest of my life blaming myself for eating Brie ShockSmile
