Been in early labour now since 5pm yesterday with contractions every 10 mins at least....so tired 😢

They're also a lot worse than I expected and are in my lower back as well - I thought I had a high pain threshold but maybe not!

Bez9087 · 04/05/2018 19:55

Hi ladies hope all okay? I keep popping on and reading everyone’s posts and keep meaning to comment.
The girls are six weeks old today it has flown by. Girls have their hip scans and isobelles kidney scan on Tuesday. Also the following week my little Imogen has been referred to the peads epilepsy clinic 😓 she has had a lot of vacant moments which I had discussed with health visitor she doesn’t fix and follow and seems to stare through us a lot of the time. Anyway twice she has had moments where she’s been shaking but on Tuesday it was worse than the last time she did it and her whole arm jerked. So rushed to drs who said she needs referring. Hopefully it’s a wasted trip but I’m glad they are monitoring her. These babies causing mischief hey 🙈

AnnaMadden · 04/05/2018 21:19

Oh Bez...I hope everything is ok. They certainly know how to keep us on our toes hey! X

Fieau · 04/05/2018 21:28

Glad to see I am not alone in having problems with breast feeding. Baby is 11 days old and we are still under the midwife as he continues to lose weight. She's come up with a feeding plan for the weekend, where I have to try and feed for at least 20/30 minutes of active sucking every three hours, if can't do that then top up with expressed or formula. She'll be back on Monday to weigh him again and reassess.

I'm a bit disappointed that having his tongue tie snipped wasn't the magical cure I was hoping for. Also he is still so sleepy... I have to set an alarm to make sure he doesn't go too long in between feeds. Of course the only time he won't sleep is in the middle of the night Hmm

HarryHarry · 04/05/2018 21:48

Hope Imogen is OK Bez

Amysaurus and strongarms I know how you feel. I already feel like I've failed in every possible way. I haven't been able to pump enough milk despite doing it the recommended 8-10 times a day with a hospital grade pump. The lactation consultant prescribed domperidone but I didn't feel comfortable taking it knowing it's not approved for this use in the UK. Yesterday I finally told the neonatalologist that I don't think I can keep it up as it's keeping me away from my baby and forcing my husband to do everything by himself which is exhausting both of us. (Setting up the pump, pumping the milk, and washing all the parts takes me almost an hour per session). Also we're not sure that the baby will ever be able to have breast milk for a long time as it has made his condition worse so all this pumping might be completely pointless anyway. The neonatalologist agreed with me but said to cut pumping down to 4 times a day, freeze whatever I have until the supply runs out, and keep it just in case. This is at least slightly more manageable.

Baby will be going back to hospital all day on Monday for yet more tests. They want to do a CT scan and a biopsy but he is too small at the moment. It's hard to believe that this is our life now, so completely different to what we expected. My husband is finding it very tough, I think the stress is going to make him ill.

I really hope things are better for the rest of you! Smile

AnnaMadden · 04/05/2018 22:16

@Harry....It sounds like you're really going through it. Sending you virtual hugs. No one has failed at all...we are all doing what we can to give our babies the best start in life possible. If that doesn't include breast milk then so be it. You're doing an amazing job! X

Bez9087 · 04/05/2018 22:48

Thanks ladies. Absolutely gutted for her but trying to not worry until we see the peads. Doesn’t help when you have another newborn to compare right next to you. Who is very awake and alert of her surroundings. I’m sure she will be fine but best getting it checked.
On positive note the girls are 7lb 7oz now at six weeks still dinky (my first was 7lb 15oz so not even her size yet lol) but their weight is slowly creeping up.

AnnaMadden · 05/05/2018 06:33

Awww @Bez they're growing nicely! You're clearly doing an amazing job! Had Áine weighed this week and was shocked to see she weighed 9lb 1oz! Little porker lol.

Bez9087 · 05/05/2018 07:15

Aww @anna look at her smile 😍 doesn’t it make it much more special when they smile? The girls have just started smiling this week too. I can’t believe from the dinky 5lb 5oz then loosing to 4lb 14oz that they are now over 7lb. They feed so well in the day now we have the tandem feeding down to a tee. Still only on 4oz each but they still bring some of it back up but when they have 3oz they cry for more. So they are greedy for the 4oz I think but not quite ready for it. Just led in bed staring at them at the minute. My older two are up as it’s ds party later today so he’s very excited (he’s 4 next week) and the twinnies are starting to stir which is bang on cue for their routine of me getting them up at 7:30am in the weekdays ready for the school runs. Can’t believe how well they have fitted in. Have a lovely bank holiday weekend everyone.

Congratulations he's a cutie!

forestftm · 05/05/2018 11:38

Congratulations @ilovesprouts

Feeling a little miserable today, have been put on antibiotics as have the tiniest of infections following my episiotomy - annoyingly I have no symptoms.

But now cannot breast feed on them - frustrated as it's not quite going to plan, but obviously need to get rid of the infection.

Hoping I can continue to express and continue to feed breastmilk once I've finished the course of antibiotics

AnnaMadden · 05/05/2018 12:25

@forest why didn't they give you the ones suitable for breastfeeding? Fluoxicillin I think they're called. It's possible baby could develop bottle preference not feeding for that long and expressing could confuse your boobs...I'd hate for your journey to be affected unnecessarily!

forestftm · 05/05/2018 12:36

@AnnaMadden possibly due to allergies, I'm allergic to several antibiotics.

I've not been able to breastfeed successfully, so the expressing isn't an issue as that's how LO has been getting milk.

Just feeling a little frustrated as if I don't express milk will dry up, but won't be able to use the milk.

Yustynne · 06/05/2018 05:25

Harry it really sounds tough what you are going through. Hope everything will get better soon!
Bez hope Imogen is fine and you are doing so well as their weight is steadily going up.
Congratulations on your grandchild ilovesprouts!

WonderfullySunny · 06/05/2018 05:36

@Ninjamilo hope the labour is going OK, fingers crossed you either have a little one in your arms or soon will do!

@Bez9087 such a lovely photo am keeping everything crossed for Imogen. Really lovely they've fit in with the rest of the family so well.

@HarryHarry How is the reduced pumping schedule going? Every time I read one of your updates I keep thinking how well you're doing, I can imagine it really doesn't feel like it but really you are. Between you and your DH you'll get through this.

@Loosemoose28 Hope all is well now your home with your new little one!

Am still pregnant :( facing induction on Tuesday at 41+6, considering its policy here to induce at 41+3 has been good to get this far. Still feels like a bit of a failure though and can't help but think it will just mean a whole list of interventions, holding out still have 48hours...you never know.

Bez9087 · 06/05/2018 07:49

@wonderfullysunny I’m keeping everything crossed for you that you have a quick spontaneous labour like a few other ladies did.
Thanks all for the wishes about Imogen. She seems to have a few vacant spells a day but not sure if she’s daydreaming and it’s “normal” or if it’s anything to worry about. I have videoed a few of them to show the peads when we go as her eyes go crazy and like she’s looking into her head? Isobelle has never done it and I know you shouldn’t compare but having two babies exact same age, same circumstances everything the same how they have been brought up etc it’s really hard not too.

amysaurus87 · 06/05/2018 10:46

Hi all, currently chilling out with an IV drip in my arm! Woke up to feed Joshua and felt awful, put it down to lack of sleep, felt really cold and clammy, finished the feed and went back to bed. Woke up a few hours later, really engorged so fed again, this time I was roasting hot. Finally woke up at about 815 with a temperature of 40.3, called triage who asked me to come in, turns out BP and heart rate are also not quite right so I've been canulated and being given IV fluids and antibiotics! Loads of blood samples taken as they think it might be an infection.

AnnaMadden · 06/05/2018 11:34

@forest don't waste the milk...save it to put in the bath it's great for their skin!

@Amy that sounds horrid but you're in the best place. Hope you feel better soon x

amysaurus87 · 06/05/2018 13:33

Being kept in overnight, as they are giving me IV antibiotics and need to make sure my temperature stabilises, if all is well I'll be home tomorrow with a course of antibiotics and antiviral medication.

Not how I imagined spending my bank holiday weekend!

amysaurus87 · 06/05/2018 20:41

Just a quick update, it looks like I have mastitis in my left breast, being treated with antibiotics and being encouraged to feed, feed, feed to clear the blockage.

It's so bloody painful, and I'm finding it hard to get a decent position because of the cannula in my elbow.

Yustynne · 07/05/2018 04:33

amysaurus I'm sure it's quite horrible to have mastitis but as long as you have been given antibiotics it should clear soon and you will be back to normal yourself. Wish you to get better soon!

WonderfullySunny · 07/05/2018 14:29

Thank you @Bez9087 I'm booked in for the induction at 7am tomorrow it's a slim hope that he comes this evening but am clinging to it!

@amysaurus87 have they now discharged you? Really hope you're starting to feel better and that the mastitis soda off quickly! I've never breastfed before so it's hard to imagine that kind of pain Thanks

amysaurus87 · 07/05/2018 15:59

Thanks @Yustynne I think things are going in the right direction.

@WonderfullySunny hope all goes well with the induction if your little one doesn't make an appearance under their own steam! Not been discharged yet, they're keeping me in another night as my temperature kept spiking last night and they need me to go 24 hours without a temperature before they can take me off the IV antibiotics, and then 24 hours on oral antibiotics, so I could be here for another day or so. The pain is easing with the frequent feeding (every 3 hours) but the lump isn't going.

HarryHarry · 07/05/2018 18:22

@WonderfullySunny Baby will be officially discharged from the NICU today - yay! - but will still have to come back to hospital every week or fortnight. Still expressing 4 times a day and getting about 100ml per session now but won't be allowed to try him on it for at least 2 months. His condition is still quite serious though he appears to be a normal healthy baby (apart from muscle weakness from being in here for so long).

@amysaurus87 Mastitis sounds awful - what caused it? hope it clears up soon!
