Plummy, did not actually find them too bad to carry, I think I got stronger because of the extra weight carried in pregnancy! I have to confess that I never tried a sling though because of their weight! I did always get people thinking they were older than they were which can be hard as they get older when people expect them to act the age that they look! Glad DS had a good birthday, hope he has a lovely party tomorrow too!

plummymummy · 22/06/2007 10:49

Thanks beckle I found ds too heavy for a sling too. Also have the problem of people expecting more from ds as he looks older than he is.

becklespeckle · 22/06/2007 11:08

I always feel I have to explain when they get funny looks from people. Especially DS2, at 3.5 he was the height and weight (all in proportion, bless him) of a 5 year old! Obviously he didn't behave like one though! (cue tutting old ladies...)

ejt1764 · 22/06/2007 11:14

Morning all,

Must not spend all day on MN! Have sewing to do! I have a quilt to finish for exhibition at the Festival of Quilts in August - and it needs to be done by 1st July. Problem is that sitting on my sewing chair is too painful to manage to sit for any more than 15 minutes at a time - the chair at the computer is not much better, but at least here, it doesn't matter if I kneel down!

I've also started crocheting a blanket for madam bean - I've been agonising over patterns and yarns for week,s but eventually decided yesterday to just do an enormous granny square - it's not like it's going to be an heirloom or anything - I just want it to be used.

I have an heirloom blanket - am a bit actually - I made it for my neighbour's little girl who is now 2 - and they have passed over all their baby clothes in the past couple of days - what did I find in one of the black bags, but the blanket. Makes me quite cross! Never mind, I'll just not make anything for them again!

My hydrotherapy appointment came through - my class is next Wednesday at 10.30 - I'll get to meet other pg ladies who have spd / pgp / coccydinia - it'll be good to swap stories!

purple - hiya ? I find it really strange bumping into other people I know on threads ?

Also like your thread title - "pg after m/c (part 7), true hand-holding and support found here!"

daisyboo - take it easy ? you?ve had major abdominal surgery ? you are not wonderwoman! Honestly, you cannot underestimate how easy you need to take things after a C section. Sermon over ? you just take care of yourself!

firststar - when I look at photos of myself in late pg with ds (there aren?t many), I?m always amazed at how unbelievably swollen I was! I could only wear flip-flops or slippers, and my face was really piggy! I was also amazed at how quickly it disappeared after ds was born ? although I seemed to be having mega Niagara falls type wees for days afterwards! DS was a petit 7lbs 3oz ? so not the world?s biggest baby!

beckle - this time, people are amazed when I tell them I?m still only 25 weeks ? mind you, this is usually followed by ?poor you, being on crutches all that time? ? I feel like saying: ?Please, don?t remind me!?

When ds was a toddler, he was big for his age ? I hated the tutting old ladies ? the problem was that I always thought of the cutting riposte about 20 seconds after they had bogged off ? hate it when that happens!

ejb - hiya -

bella - hang on in there ? the kids will manage ? the most important thing is that you slow down a bit!

plummy - enjoy your party! Here?s hoping the weather is kind! I didn?t get on with a sling ? I found that ds was wanting to be facing outwards from very early on ? he didn?t like being shut off from the world at all ? and added to that, I found it caught on my scar!

rubles - hiya -

Am listening to the 90s anthems CD - have just been listening to nirvana - took me back to my days when I was working in France! Now, there are some stories from that time ...

bluebell82 · 22/06/2007 11:27

hello all, I am sorry to jump in and you've al probebly seen my worry threads but Ia m worried and I can't help it. Just been to the dentist as I had a swelling and pain in my mouth wheer I had me wisdom tooth out a couple of months ago.. apparently it is am uscle spasm because I am stressing and grinding my teeth.. but I can not help feeling like this. I have no symptoms what so ever today, not one I feel perfectly normal spoken to the midwife today and the best she could come up with was 'fingers crossed'. I have just read in the paper that jade goody lost her baby this week and the tears came.. I have had a scan and seen the the heartbeat but again I am still worrying even though the odds are stacked in m,y favour... I know so many people have told me they have not had symptoms but I want to be sick all day every day just so I can feel pregnant.. I have lost two beans already why does this have to be so hard ?

ejt1764 · 22/06/2007 11:32

bluebell - welcome to knocker checkers anonymous - you are not alone in worrying - everybody on this thread has been exactly where you are now - we're grandmasters at spotting symptoms, and worrying because symptoms have gone ... if it's any consolation, symptoms coming and going is completely normal.

How far along are you now?

ejt1764 · 22/06/2007 11:34

sorry - shouldn't have been knocker checkers .... knicker checkers. knicker checkers .... mind you, checking your knockers happens a lot too!

Hi ejt1764- I am 9 weeks today! So judging by a lot of people I have spoken to I should be throwing up no end

bluebell82 · 22/06/2007 11:43

Thanks guys, I am 9 weeks today have had a scan at 5.5 weeks yo checfk it was in the right place as previous ectopis took my right tube and then had a scan at 7 .5 weeks and the heart beat was flashing away.. I just haven't felt that dire other than emotionally drained and tired

ejt1764 · 22/06/2007 11:49

bluebell - the emotional and tired feeling is down to pg hormones too - just because you're not throwing up doesn't mean that anything is wrong ... hang on in there - the next 3 or so weeks will be horrible, but you will survive it - just carry on letting us know how you're feeling.

Mumpbump · 22/06/2007 11:56

Morning all!

In a bit of pain today. Thought it was the underwire of my bra, but stopped wearing an u/wire one a few days ago and my ribs still hurt, so am coming to the conclusion that maybe it is just the way the baby is lying. I can't feel any kicks on the particular area, but can't think what else it could be...

Bluebell - remember that even after 2 m/c, you still have a good chance of a successful pg. I had 2 m/c and it inevitably makes you paranoid, but try to keep calm - remember that it isn't good for the baby! - and just focus on one day at a time. If you have seen a hb, as Uki's often quoted articles says, your chances of a successful pg are 99.4%, although not guaranteed. The first 3 months are so scary and hard to get through, aren't they?

Hello to everyone else! Will be back a bit later...

Glimmer · 22/06/2007 11:57

Hi everybody >

Hi Bluebell -- sorry you have a rough time.
I can only second what others have said: symptoms come and go we are anxious when we have them not and upset when we do. Just scroll down the thread and you'll see all of us have posting about the lack of symptoms at one point or the other...

As for the tooth ache -- have you tried a grinding plate (I believe this is what it's called). I wear one at night and love it! I had one fitted but one can buy them over-the-counter. Actually, I think I have stopped grinding my teeth since I have the thing.... Might be worth checking out.

Everything's well here -- am growing a nice little bump (IM: and you say you are only 19 weeks?) but still incognito at work (I have become an expert in dressing in wide tops :-). Am excitedly and anxiously awaiting my 20 week scan next Wednesday. I have really stopped stressing somewhat!!! Didn't happen for me at 12 weeks, but somewhere around 16...

Congrats to VV!

Glimmer · 22/06/2007 12:00

Hi Mumpbump -- x-posted!

Hotchoc so great to hear the news about your mum. Mumpbump hope your mother will continue to react 'positively' to chemo. Daisy -- sorry
to hear your mum isn't doing wo well - but great, that she can come and visit her youngest grandchild!

becklespeckle · 22/06/2007 12:04

Hi Bluebell, sorry to hear you are having a rough time of it at the moment. It is true about symptoms coming and going. Mine went at around 9 weeks for a few days but then they came back with a vengance! It is also perfectly normal to have no symptoms, there is a lady on due in Dec thread who is having twins and has had no symptoms at all! Please try not to worry too much if you can but if you are still symptom free and worrying in a couple of days then go back to your midwife, fib if you have to!

Mumpbump · 22/06/2007 12:11

Wow, Glimmer! I can't believe you're already almost 20 weeks!!! Which day is your scan?

Bluebell I do know EXACTLY how you feel. I am in the same position as you give or take a week (and yes I have had 2 miscarriages). I worry every day about my symptoms and despite the fact that I vomited violently this morning (breakfast is almost always coming up these days) I am now sitting at my desk and worrying that my tits don;t hurt at all at the moment.

The whole thing, quite frankly, is ghastly. It is going to be a tough 3/4 weeks.

could you pay for a 10 week scan?

bluebell82 · 22/06/2007 13:56

my midwife said that today and I think I am going to, I havfe to put my mind at ease and I have my 13 weeks scan booked in for July 16th.. My midwife is a really u healpful to be honest I had to cry my eyes to get a scan at 12/13 weeks I am going on holiday during my 14th week and she said she would be hard pushed to get me one before so I would have to wait until I cam back and I would be 16 weeks! She told me that if I was worried I could pay for a private scan and told me that 'at £80 you probably spend just as much on a pair of new shoes these day'- could have stamped on her foot! I think I am going to have an early scan...it's horrible this limbo.. the thing is I am a really sicky person because I used to be a smoker until I found out I was pg, so I used wake up most morning and feel like I'd eaten an ashtray and felt sick, so maybe I am just immune!

Maybe we should have virtual passed-the-first/second trimester parties where we eat virtual cake and drink virtual champagne? Sorry, for the silliness...

Bluebell and VV -- yes you can get a private scan at 10 etc week. The upside for me was that I knew everything was fine for the time being, the downside that after 7 days I started worrying again .... But if it is really getting bad, I think the £80 are worth it. (Have no idea where MW buys her shoes, but it was just one of these things that was worth the money for me.) I actually got a freeby at 8 weeks....
