I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.
MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk
If you need help in obtaining medication, phone them on:
024 7638 2020
Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy
I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.
Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

I was taking them both during labour shehz midwife said it was fine.

Mustang27 · 09/02/2018 14:39

Omg Nat I love him he looks so alert. Il catch up later glad you are getting home.

LostMyBaubles · 09/02/2018 14:43

I've had them in the past and been amazed at how quick they work!
I did tell the pharmacist I want to see if I can cope with it rather than have more medicine but if it gets too bad I will be popping to Tesco lol

Ahhh just been looking at old pics and found youngest pic from when he was born! Over 4.5kg he was! 97th centile lol

Anatidae · 09/02/2018 16:31

Entirely random but does anyone find their severe nausea brings on sneezing and vice versa? It’s almost like my brain is confusing needing to sneeze and needing to puke.

Anatidae · 09/02/2018 16:32

Rennies are pretty benign. You’d need to eat a LOT to do harm. Plus reducing acid helps me with reducing nausea

LostMyBaubles · 09/02/2018 16:33

Ana yes yes and yes

Sneezing and coughing

Anatidae · 09/02/2018 16:36

Hurrah it’s not just me! :)

We are all getting over a chest infection and the coughing triggering puking has been awful.

The sneezing has been all the way though. How peculiar

LostMyBaubles · 09/02/2018 17:00

Everyone has been ill here too. Eldest now has it.

I'm hungry. I want rice. I can't cook rice to save my life lol

LucindaE · 09/02/2018 20:47

Baubles and Shehz I hope the Rennies work; if not, so many people have found that something stronger like Omprazole or Ranitidine can make a huge difference to the nausea and vomiting.
Baubles It sounds as if your diet isn't too bad at all. That's really good. It's dreadful when all one can stomach is coke and nibbles of crisps! Excuse my ignorance - which is limitless - but what sort of tea is chai?
Anitidae How are things?
Natsku Oh what a beautiful baby! One would never think such a lovely one caused so much trouble.
Apologies to anyhone rudely ignored.

Sorry, Shehz and Nails didn't get your messages in. Shehz Sorry, that message about Rennies was meant to be for Baubles. Keep on with that ranitidine. All that time ago, my GP insisted only Gavison was safe, but that was untrue, and it just doesn't seem to touch really bad heartburn, and can trigger grotesque foam vomits!
Nails So sorry that you have been admitted. I do hope you start to feel a lot better soon and they get you on effective meds.

Thank you lucinda.
Going to have to take my spare dose of cyclizine as I can feel the sick in my throat. Just edging kinda thing. Had that new one but will take the cyclizine now too

Chai is 'Desi' tea. So teabags, sugar, cinnamon and cardamom boiled in water until it goes dark and then add milk. Once it's boiled once leave it on simmer for around 10mins. Tastes amazing. The cinnamon really eases my stomach atm.
I've never liked this type of tea. Been married 9yrs and never happily drank 1 cup (was forced to drink it once by my mum lol)
But atm I'm having 2 cups a day!

How are you lucinda (and everyone else) x

Boredoftryingusernames · 10/02/2018 10:52

Hi everyone, just hoping for some advice please.
I am 10 weeks pregnant and have had really awful sickness and constant nausea since 5 weeks. I had (what I thought at the time!!) quite bad symptoms with my first pregnancy until 20 weeks, but managed to work full time and didn't have any meds. Little girl is 2 now.
This time I have tried cyclizine and stemetil with no effect and then was given ondansetron which helped with reducing the vomiting and I have stopped losing weight as eating a bit more (beige food only here!). The nausea was still just crippling though, and vomiting through the ondansetron in the evenings. Have now had promethazine (phenergan) added in which I think is helping but is really knocking me out - has anyone else had it, and did the drowsy effects wear off? I tried having the dose but started retching and vomting again. Currently ok as long as I don't try to get out of bed as I then just feel sick and dizzy again.
Thanks for advance if anyone can help!

Mustang27 · 10/02/2018 11:43

@LostMyBaubles perfect rice 250g of basmati rice 600mls of boiled water put it in a large dish cover with cling and pierce. Microwave on high for 6mins then 8mins medium leave to stand for a couple of minutes uncover fluff with fork and enjoy lol

LostMyBaubles · 10/02/2018 11:59

Bored im really sorry you're feeling so crap I'm sure someone will come along with some advice

Mustang thank you!! I wanted qabli pilau lol (rice made with spices, lamb and they are carrots and sultanas on top) hubby ended up getting me a burger. Didn't tell him about the rice lol managed half of it

Today I'm feeling very shit, confused and dizzy

I'm trying to put clothes away but it's really confusing me so I'm sat on the floor in the spare room surrounded by clothes.

I might pop upto epu on Monday once kids are in school and get bloods checked etc the dizziness, blurry eyesight, nausea and fatigue is taking the piss atm. If it gets worse will get checked before that but makes it easier on Monday so I'm not worrying about these 3 monkeys

Anatidae · 10/02/2018 12:10

bored phenergan is sedating. There are formulations where it’s mixed with ephedrine and caffeine (lergigan comp it’s called where I am but that's non UK.)

Anatidae · 10/02/2018 12:12

Not feeling great alas Lucinda:(

Toddler is being a tad ‘challenging’ today (Saturday is dads day for a lie in and he has thrown his breakfast and milk all over, and been biting, eye gouging and punching, so that’s fun...) I feel horribly sick and just so tired and dizzy and deflated.

lost I really feel for you. That dizziness and head fog is the worst. I’ve actually felt like that since I was pregnant with my first. It’s exhausting and I have no idea how to even start to lift it.

LostMyBaubles · 10/02/2018 13:07

Anat that sounds like you've had your hands full

My boys have been fantastic and will go upstairs and play with their toys etc while I'm laid on the couch unable to move

I just feel so bloody shit. Never had this prob ever in the past not even when my hb was 6.

Hope we all pick up a little soon

seizethecuttlefish · 10/02/2018 17:42

Nats he's so gorgeous, glas you're both getting home.
Baubles, as Lucinda says, see the dr for omprezole. It's safe in pregnancy and a-ma-zing! Dr prescribed it over ranitidine. And my dr fought over prescribing everything!
Ana I've got this cold that's doing the rounds and I'm coughing and sneezing till I throw up. I've also discovered that my pelvic floor is not as good as I thought! Blush
Bored I was really dopey when I started taking cyclizine. It took a while to wear off. My nausea has finally eased at 27 weeks but I found if I missed or was late with one dose of ondansetron, it set me back for days.
Ana hope you're feeling a bit better and that things with your toddler have smoothed out. I swear they know which buttons to press!
Hugs to anyone I've missed.

LostMyBaubles · 10/02/2018 18:07

Seize how many times were you taking the ondansetron?
Gp said 2x a day if needs be but once is better and I'm worse at night so take it in the evening

Been flat out most of the day apart from feeding kids and putting clothes away nothing else has been done

LucindaE · 10/02/2018 19:21

Boredoftryingusernames Welcome. Sorry you are suffering. It must be so difficult with a toddler. Have you got childcare arrangements or really helpful family and friends? Ten weeks is generally terrible, most people find. What beige foods suit you? Do you find the juice of tinned fruit, flat full sugar coke or ice lollies any good? You've had good advice from Anitidae about promethazine being a sedative. it is really hard to cope when things are so bad that all you can do is lie down. Have you got kesostix from a chemists to check for the early stages of dehydration?
Baubles That sounds a strong tea! I'm glad you can drink it. When I was suffering I was unable to drink tea for a while and it was terrible!
I am fine thanks, these days I am Mother Hen on this thread and not currently suffering myself. The muddle headed feeling is hard to endure. A good idea to have the blurry vision checked, though it does seem to go with being ill. I am glad your boys entertain themselves; that's wonderful.
Anitidae Toddlers are so hard to deal with when ill. Much sympathy.
sympathy.
Mustang That's a great piece of rice making advice!
I am one of the few people in Northern Europe without a microwave...
Waves to all. I am going to look for the Due Dates list on the old full up thread and update it. It might cheer people up a bit...

Thanks for the replies. I have read that after a few weeks the sedative effects may not be as bad, just wondered if anyone had found that.
It is really hard with my little girl as finding it impossible to even sit playing with her at the moment. Luckily between my mum, husband and mother in law they have made a rota so I'm not on my own with her at all - I'm so lucky (doesn't help the mum guilt though!).
I started off ok on coke, but can't stomach it now, all about lemon squash for me. Managing tortilla chips, toast, cornflakes and digestives and some days bananas are ok. I love ice lollies but can't stomach the fruity flavour.
Luckily haven't been ketotic when they have checked my urine. Reading back through the thread I totally agree with those getting upset/angry about the treatment pregnant women with sickness get. Hospital wouldn't give me fluids as I wasn't ketotic despite being dehydrated. I'm a vet - any animal coming in to see me with a history of vomiting for several days, only managing sips of water and little nibbles of foods would be straight on a drip to make them feel better!
Hope everyone suffering starts to feel better soon!

justtheonethen · 10/02/2018 20:00

Bored i found the cyclizine sedative effect wore off after a few weeks. So expect it will as similar drugs.

Lucinda hurrah I'm 3rd!!!!!

Emu31 · 10/02/2018 20:37

Eeek top of the list! Just playing the waiting game now to waddle over that pink castle drawbridge, though this last bit has by far been the best bit of pregnancy since nausea eased so I'm rather enjoying some relief before he arrives (although very oddly last night I kept waking up choking on bile which was horrible, felt like drowning!). Got a bit over excited yesterday about how well I felt and did too much so nausea returned today.

That is interesting bored to hear that animals get better treatment than women with hg. I think there is much too much obsession with ketones when considering appropriate treatment. I was never ketotic either when tested, though I felt that I might actually be dying!

Waves to everyone, and gentle hugs to all who are feeling dreadful.
