I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.
MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk
If you need help in obtaining medication, phone them on:
024 7638 2020
Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy
I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.
Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Found you lot!

Definitely agree HG is a feminist issue emu (and pregnancy health issues in general) no way would men suffer like women have to!

Are there other sweet fizzy drinks you can have lost that aren't bad for your kidneys? Or maybe flavoured fizzy water?

Feeling a bit better after two bags of blood and antibiotics but baby has started cluster feeding now and I'm starting to feel a bit sick, really hoping the nausea is from the pain meds and not from breastfeeding.
OH is being amazing, doing everything with baby so all I have to do is breastfeed (we were lucky and got a family room so he's able to stay) but during the pushing stage of the birth he couldn't cope, was sat in a corner with his eyes shut in shock! I feel a bit sad he didn't see his son being born but I think he was a bit traumatised by the whole labour and the end was just too much for him.

Endora44 · 07/02/2018 14:22

Lucinda I'm on ondansetron and cyclizine. Not taking the omeprazole, because haven't been suffering from heartburn. I did just get diagnosed with very low magnesium, it's been causing insomnia and apparently dangerous, so I have to take supplements - which I can't keep down much. Yesterday I tried to eat a banana bec my GP said they were high in magnesium, but it came back up. So long as I stay in bed and don't eat or drink, I feel almost normal. Any movement will trigger me though. And any food or drink.

I've gone through almost all my safe foods, I can't think of anything I'd like to eat - except things from my childhood that aren't available where I live. That always happens to me in pregnancy - sometimes my mum finds a way to send me a package, but right now it looks like I have to tough it out myself. Sad Wink

Mustang I sure hope it's the beginning of a turning point. Earlier than in my prev 2 pregnancies, but hey, I'm NOT complaining if it is! Grin

waves to everyone

LostMyBaubles · 07/02/2018 14:30

Justtheone hand hold I really don't know what to say hopefully someone with more knowledge comes soon

Just spoke to gp over phone (Who only rang to tell me ds has got an infection at his tube site) he wants to see me tomorrow. Fx he agrees to start me on more meds.

Will have a proper read soon. Waiting on carparking space outside school

LostMyBaubles · 07/02/2018 14:41

Found parking

That's horrendous that you've been left so long (Sorry can't remember the posters name)

Natsku congrats on your lil bundle of joy. Hope the sickness eases for you (and everyone else) soon.
I've had pph with all 3 of my boys, most being 2.5l and least 1.5l. Lots of rest, fluids and rest.

Last night was rough. Really rough. I was upright until around 1-2am then I must have managed to fall asleep. The nausea was really bad and I could feel sick in my throat.
I had home made kebabs (we are Pakistani and it's been very very hard not eating all these yummy curries dh makes but they smell awful ) my house stunk of spices all night which made things worse.
I really enjoyed them while I was eating them, hubby stopped eating them as he could see I enjoyed them so much lol

We've run out of coke at home. I don't like the cordials I've got in for the kids (Ribena and vimto sugar free versions) so I've been having small cups of water with my tablets to try and get some fluids into me

Anatidae · 07/02/2018 14:55

endorra

Get some Epsom salts and put them in your bath. It sounds barmy but there is evidence for active transport of magnesium across the skin.

Endora44 · 07/02/2018 14:59

thanks anatidae I'll see to that pronto.

Anatidae · 07/02/2018 15:00

Helps with the leg cramps too 👍

Shehz21 · 07/02/2018 15:12

Anatidaeto the rescue!Grin
Love the tips you leave every now and then on the thread! The newbies are/will be lucky to have you during those first weeks of hg hell ;)

Nat Oh no really hope the sickness is just meds related and you feel nausea free soon.
Aww poor OH and poor you! If it was that horrible for him to be unable to witness, I can only imagine what kind of state you must have been in.
Rest up whenever you can and enjoy warm baby cuddles!

Lucinda Ohh a new redecorated Pink Castle! Can't wait for my turn Grin

justtheonethen Ahhh. I really am crossing fingers it's just another couple of weeks left for you hun so you don't have to suffer for much longer after weaning off the steroids.
I am sure little one will be fine but if they think that is the best thing to do right now, then I guess best judge their judgement Sad
Gentle hand squeeze. We are here to be with you those last few weeks. It's going to be ok!!

Shehz21 · 07/02/2018 15:18

LostMyBaubles Oh so sorry you are suffering as such atm. I still remember the time I could feel sick "brewing" in my throat.. ughSad
You really need to take it easy with the kebabs ( I do love Pakistani food though, esp the spicy stuff! Yummy! ) in case they accentuate your nausea even though you enjoy eating them in the moment!
It could be a bit too much for your fragile hg stomach to take in.
And stock up on the coke! It's such a lifesaver!
Btw hats off to you driving at 9 weeks, getting out of bed to be able to brush my teeth was a feat for me at 9 weeks.

LostMyBaubles · 07/02/2018 15:38

It was the first proper 'meal' i had yesterday (kebabs and chappati) hubby made them so they weren't too spicy so if I was sick it wouldn't burn too much thanks lol kids really enjoyed them too.

I have no other option, I drive with a sick bowl, water, mints, toffees and boiled sweets in the car so if I do feel like I need to be sick I try those first.

I'm hungry now lol I'm plus size so being sick and not being able to eat has been very hard mentally (as it is for everyone) I remember telling the midwife but I'm fat and I like my food so I'm getting hunger pain too lol

Shehz21 · 07/02/2018 15:54

Yeah you lot with kids who are currently suffering from hg, I feel warriors is too weak a word to describe you all. It must be so so much harder, I can't even imagine. I couldn't look after myself in the earlier days so looking after small(or even older) children must take a great deal of courage.
I do hope you get adequate support atleast so as not to overdo it and get to the point where functioning is not possible.
You did make me crave for some kebabs too now though I know I need to take it slow after this horrible relapse..

LostMyBaubles · 07/02/2018 16:45

My biggest mistake was missing 2 tablets.
I had it well controlled before that (wasn't being sick and didn't feel as bad for around 10days)
Missed 2 tablets and was unable to eat anything from around 2pm until 2am the next day as I had to take middle ds to a+e and we got out 2.30am (arrived and 7pm)
Since then the sickness started again (was very hungry, only had my card with me nd the only machine that accepted card was a drinks machine. With zero everything, zero coke, fanta etc)

We've got a bloody 3-4hour round trip for eldest in a few weeks, day before my 12 week scan. Not looking forward to it at all.

I have 3 boys and was sick 2x with eldest (travel sickness) and never with the younger 2.
Infact I've prob only been sick because of illness less than 5/6 prior to this.
The bit I hate the most is choking on it while it comes up. Is there a way to stop this from happening??

Shehz is this your first?

Anatidae · 07/02/2018 16:50

It is really tough looking after a toddler with this. We are watching way too much telly rather than going out on the snow. Still, he doesn’t seem to care much as long as he gets cuddles

Shehz21 · 07/02/2018 18:51

Baubles Argh goodluck to you!!
I had a 8hr trip from dubai to the uk right before my 12 week scan and I slept through it with phenergan and piriton. Well woke up a couple of times and sick bag came in handy but otherwise jst slept through it.
Yes my first! So very excited to have this baby and never ever get pregnant ever again!! Grin
It's taken such a toll on my body and especially my mental health, I really do not think I can ever recover from the 'trauma'.
3 boys!! Maybe a little girl is going to join the gang now. Are you planning to find out the sex of the baby?

Ana I am sure LO is enjoying himself atm. Btw when are you due? Dnt see you on the due date list?

NerNerNerNerBATMAN · 07/02/2018 19:25

Hello ladies

Long time no see. Apologies for the absence, lots going on and was generally bumbling along fine with the HG until last week. Am now finally admitting to myself that I'm relapsing at 26 weeks 😭😭😭

I'm so close to actually being sick, even with the ondansetron and cyclazine. It's like weeks 7-14 all over again 😡

Anyone else had this? GP mentioned there were more drugs they could try but I didn't ask for specifics. Wish I had now, anyone know?

I feel like I'm being poisoned!

Anyway enough about me, Nat am so pleased to hear you've made it to the pink castle, and also about your brother. Was thinking of you when I read about it yesterday in the news Wine

Elephantgrey · 07/02/2018 20:35

Natsku huge congratulations on your new baby. I hope you are recovering well from the birth.

Justtheonethen I agree with what you said on the previous thread about it making you angry. I would definitely go for therapy as not being listened to when you are struggling can really damage your mental health. You have already been through so much.
Lostmybaubles sucking on ice lollies really helped me when I was feeling like that. The lady in the corner shop must have thought I was balmy to be buying so many in the middle of winter.

bitzy12 · 07/02/2018 21:59

I'm still in here for another night. My ketones dropped from 3+ to 2+ but have gone up to 4+ now. My midwife for the night is great and she's just given me every drug under the sun through my cannula, an injection for something - no idea what now - and she's back in half an hour to give me 2 tablets. I've had a very small bleed - brown discharge - which they aren't worried about but I can't help feeling abit concerned.

Got another doctors coming round to discuss plan of action as have had 8 pints of fluid now and keytones have got worse

They were actually considering sending me home earlier when they were at 2+ as they are allowed to discharge you with 2+ apparently Hmm

I was dreading them sending me home as I stilll feeling like absolute s**t and the thought of going home just makes me feel so ill in itself x

Elephantgrey · 08/02/2018 08:19

bitsy while they can discharge you with two ketones that shouldn't apply to you as you are still having your meds through a cannula. I was told that being able to keep down tablets and have something to eat was the criteria for me to be discharged when I was in.

I think when you do have fluids it can make you feel a bit worse to begin with if you have been severely dehydrated. You start to feel sick again because you have something to sick up.

I do hope they keep you in you are not well enough to go home. Flowers

Anatidae · 08/02/2018 08:33

02 sep shehz so a long way to go!

Oh poor bitzy - but you’re in the right place, let’s hope they sort out your metabolism and get you back on your feet!!

bitzy12 · 08/02/2018 09:12

My bleeding has got worse, I'm starting to think it's all over :-( had a scan on Saturday and everything was fine, good heartbeat and 9 weeks. I'm waiting for a dr to come in and going to beg they scan me. Having light cramps too. I do feel better today sickness wise

LostMyBaubles · 08/02/2018 11:14

Bitzy hope you get a scan soon and fx all is well

Went to gp today and he's prescribed me ondansetron. I googled it and apparently there's small risk if things like cleft palate and heart defects? I've read some of you are on it can you give me some advice please.

Natsku · 08/02/2018 12:14

Oh no bitzy I hope you get a scan and it shows things are OK.

It's a tiny possibly linked risk lost very very tiny and I don't think anyone on these threads have had any issues with baby after using onandsetron, I'd try not to worry about it.

Anatidae · 08/02/2018 12:22

Oh bitzy just hand holding - hope it’s all ok for you. I had a bleed at a similar time with no 1 - it was a sign of a low placenta in the end. Hope the scan is OK xx

lost I’m a geneticist by background, work in drug development and I have taken ondansetron. The problem with any drug used in pregnancy is that you can’t test it on pregnant women, so the data we have is retrospective in most cases. What that means in practice is that it takes a while for enough women to have taken the drug to be able to say if it’s safe or not. The first few studies you look at might only have a few hundred women in. Early studies with small numbers of women saw a very slight increase in cleft palate risk. Later studies (the last one was 60,000 women I think? ) show no increase. That sort of data pattern isn’t uncommon - in small number cohorts chance etc can skew the results quite a bit. It’s only when you get to bigger numbers that a truer picture is seen.

bitzy12 · 08/02/2018 12:26

They can't scan me until Saturday, I'm home now. Just going to keep an eye on things. Dh has ordered me to do absolutely nothing in the house and he's got the day off tomorrow to look after me. It's going to be a long wait until Saturday, if the bleeding gets worse I'm just going to go to a&e x

LostMyBaubles · 08/02/2018 13:06

Ahhh ok thank you for the reassurance.

I'm not feeling that bad atm but get worse at night so might take it around 6ish to get in system

I've managed to have breakfast and dinner!

I just felt so bad last night, wonder if it's my BP? Felt very dizzy and eye sight was going blurry
