I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.
MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk
If you need help in obtaining medication, phone them on:
024 7638 2020
Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy
I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.
Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Bored sorry you're feeling rubbish.

Anat did the day get any better?

I had 3 units of fluid and my husband said he hadn't realised how awful I looked before until he saw me after the fluids! I've been given cyclizine which is great, I really notice as it starts to wear off and I'm ready for the next dose. I discharged myself from hospital because we had a family weekend away booked but I really shouldn't have. On top of feeling shit, my 6 yr old has whinged and whined non-stop about anything and everything. I think we're going to cut the weekend short and go home tomorrow eve instead of Monday afternoon.

On the plus side, we had a scan on thurs (where the dr noticed I looked awful and actually listened, tested my urine for ketones and diagnosed hg!), and the twins are doing really well and showing no signs of ttts at the moment.

I hope everyone has managed to eat, drink and rest a bit today x

Namechangedtoscream · 10/02/2018 21:06

Hi all currently fighting the sickness to stay hydrated enough to stay out of hospital. Been to OOH and my BP and blood sugar are fine but she said in visibly dehydrated (very dry lips) but in spite of that and in spite of a banging headache no urine dip done and sent home and told to drink more!!

I said I am drinking it's just not staying down. So I'm sticking up on ice lollies and ice pops and jelly (more so than I have already been) Any other suggestions?

I've lost a stone now in weight and I'm 10 weeks tomorrow

Shehz21 · 10/02/2018 21:23

Lucinda Yipee!! I am 4th on the list!
I remember when I was last and justtheonethen was telling me how I knocked her off the bottom of the listGrin
Btw you missed Ana who is due on the 2nd of Sept!

justtheonethen yay we are in top 5!

Bored The sedative effects of Phenergan stopped after couple of days for me as well.

nails So sorry you are not being able to enjoy your weekend getaway but really glad you got the correct diagnosis and now it will be in your notes.

Emu Cheering you on the way to the Pink Castle!!
Can't wait for the update of you going in labour and baby Emu making his appearance.
Try not to overdo it even if you get those bouts of extra energy. Keep all that energy and positivity for the labour Halo

Have had my 2nd episode of reduced fetal movement today and baby was moving ever so slightly(very very different from her usual pattern, has always been an over active baby) so referred for a scan on Monday. She is still hardly moving and I am getting worried but praying everything is fine and she is just having lazy days now.

Emu31 · 11/02/2018 08:43

Shehz it's so hard not to worry about movements, I've found it really stressful. It's very good that you are being monitored closely and I'm sure the scan will be reassuring for you. They don't seem to take any chances when it comes to the movements so I'm sure they'll be keeping a close eye and making sure all is ok with your little one. Baby emu seems to have more lazy days now and gives me a fright, I find myself poking my belly a lot to try and get him to move. When I went in for monitoring he went absolutely mad with the movements as I don't think he liked the monitors on my tummy. I think these little ones are just preparing us for the anxiety of parenthood when they arrive!

sonypony · 11/02/2018 08:48

name i'm in a similar boat. I'm 8+5 and have lost 11lbs now. I held down nothing yesterday till DH got me some of those melt on your tongue travel sickness tablets last night then I held down an orange. Was this a GP in OOH? I wonder if A&E or EPU might help more? I tried to call EPU for some advice this morning but no answer.

seizethecuttlefish · 11/02/2018 09:35

Lost I take it twice a day. Used to space it 12 hours apart but then someone on here (have I mentioned, I love this lot) talked about taking it when they felt worse. I take one when I get up and one around 3pm, I always feel really rough later on in the day. I take cyclizine at the same time and an extra one at night. I'm not convinced cyclizine makes a difference but don't want to risk coming off it, just in case.
Lucinda can't believe I'm in the middle of the list. I started at the end. Yay! Emu pole position! The pink castles in sight.
Bored I've been really lucky as the hospital we're not ketone obsessed. I do think going in for a scan and throwing up 3 times in a hour helped my case. That and I'm not a subtle, lady like vomiter. They heard me from the corridor BlushOnce the dopey effect wears off, you'll hopefully feel better.
Nails glad you're feeling better and the scan was good. I have a 4 (nearly 5 yr old) and he has figure out which buttons to press. I'm an expert at counting to ten in my head and repeating "it's only a phase. It's only a phase". Angry
Name flat Coke is one of the best suggestions from Lucinda. That and flat sprite seemed to stay down, if I sipped. The juice from cans of fruit is another one. Beware though, I was drinking canned pineapple juice and now pineapple chunks are my pregnancy craving. Dreading my GTT in a couple of weeks.
Hugs to you all. It will get better or at least more manageable. I've gone from bed bound, from 4-14 weeks (that was bad), to making to round Costco yesterday and doing a batch cook. The last week has been great. 27 weeks today. Can I have a whoop whoop?!?!

jo0niper · 11/02/2018 10:00

Can I join you guys? I've brought my own bucket :(

Namechangedtoscream · 11/02/2018 11:15

I've been put on Buccastem after an early morning trip to hospital as I got worse. I have ketones in my urine but they didn't seem concerned.

How safe is this medication? I'm reading mixed things online for pre12 weeks

Emu31 · 11/02/2018 12:06

It's perfectly safe namechanged don't worry about it at all (I know easier said than done) I've been on prochlorperezine (same as buccastem) all pregnancy and all is well. It's a very common one that they give in early pregnancy and it's very safe (though the label will say not to take in pregnancy but don't be alarmed by that).

Whoop whoop for 27 weeks sieze! So glad things are more manageable for you after the horrible early weeks. It's true it does get better thankfully.

LostMyBaubles · 11/02/2018 12:25

Namechanged waves we are from the same antenatal board

Emu eeeeekkkk not long to go!!

Shez that sounds really worrying but from experience (in my cases) it's been ok but always get checked. I was induced a little early with the youngest due to reduced movements but think he couldn't move due to being so big- nearly 10lb

Nails sorry you didn't enjoy the weekend enough but glad you are out now

I really want to go to epu tomorrow as this dizziness and the eye sight thing isn't really shifting properly
Woke up and my bags were a tad puffy which worried me more

I think that ondansetron is finally working. I'm taking 1 a day and 3x cyclizine

Didn't have breakfast. I dunno why lol but me and the kids have just had brunch
Eggs, toast, hoops, sausages, tea and some mango juice.
The most I've had ever! Now I feel full I want to sleep lol
(Which also bloody worries me due to gestational diabetes which due to bmi and fam history high risk of getting)

All that food will keep us going until tea time.

LostMyBaubles · 11/02/2018 12:27

Whoop whoop sieze!!!

I was going back to bed after dropping kids off at school until 11.30 for a few weeks but thankfully slowly things seem to be settling with all this medication

Ohhh I picked some gaviscon up today

Sorry if I missed anyone out

Namechangedtoscream · 11/02/2018 12:38

Oh I'm pleased it's safe I've been reading some right old horror stories!!

hello lovely hope the meds have started working for you

LostMyBaubles · 11/02/2018 12:42

I did the same thing when they put me on ondansetron and the lovely ladies here really helped settle my mind.

It's taken some time but I'm feeling a little better sickness wise today!
Still feel very weak, dizzy etc but that's another kettle of fish!

I hope the meds start working for you. If they don't ask for something else.

I've been living on flat coke and Mint imperials.
Some boiled sweets helped. Suck and then chew.

Scoobysue10 · 11/02/2018 13:32

Hi all.
I am 11wks +1. My sickness got worse just over a wk ago. Wasn't eating drinking much or keeping much down.
Went to doctors on Wednesday and was put on anti sickness tablets. They have been working really well. I has a family party last night so had a very late night and had to be up early for work.
The sickness came back and couldn't keep anything down all morning. Seem to be doing better at present. Just hate feeling ill now. It gets me down.

justtheonethen · 11/02/2018 13:52

Welcome newbies. This lot are great, it's not a club you want to be in but it's a wonderful support Smile

Anyone worried about medication should look on the PSS website as it includes all the research. Don't just google as all you will get is hearsay/unvalidated research. The only thing that they have actually found is steroids causing a slightly higher incidence of cleft palate before 12 weeks.

https://www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/help/treatments/

Shehz hope you get a nice reassuring scan, movements, or a lack of, are so worrying. Can you believe we are so high up the list?!

Haven't had a great week. Bump is measuring 5 weeks behind now. Had a second growth scan and they found she's tiny but in proportion. 13th centile Shock. Unfortunately they found a problem with the blood flow through the cord which is a sign my placenta is failing. So rescan on Thursday and if it's worse they will induce me. I'll be 37 weeks then so not too bad. Just worrying.

Shehz21 · 11/02/2018 17:40

justtheonethen
Oh no poor you love with all the stress until Thursday. I really hope all is well with bubba but even if they need to induce, 37 weeks is what they deem full term(If i'm correct)and bubba should be fine. How far are you today?

Emu Omg the same happened to me! When I went in for monitoring, she started kicking and rolling. These babies really do not like dem monitors. I do try to keep drinking ice cold drinks and poke my belly when she goes super quiet, lay on my left side but nothing really...
Well can't wait for scan tomorrow.

LostMyBaubles My my 10lbs! I am expecting a big baba as well with me and Dh both being born above 9lbs!Grin

welcome newbies. So sorry you all are all suffering atm. This Too Shall Pass.
Also check our Mother Hen's Lucinda posts where she always gives great advice on "safe foods". Loads of it have worked for us during those difficult early weeks.
And wonderful advice from justtheonethen about checking PSS website regarding medication.

justtheonethen · 11/02/2018 18:29

I'm 36+2 today shehz. Will be thinking of you tomorrow lovely Flowers

Natsku · 11/02/2018 18:49

Welcome newbies, this thread is a great source of support and advice.

Will be thinking of you tomorrow shehz hope baby is kicking away at the scan.

justtheonethen · 11/02/2018 19:18

Natsku just seen your picture 😍

LucindaE · 11/02/2018 19:33

justtheone Hugs. That is anxiety making. Thank goodness you are 37 weeks, as others say, that should be safe. I am so glad that the safe foods list has helped you. I'm about to repeat it...
Shehz21 ...And poor you, reduced movements being monitored. But as Baubles says, size may be a factor. They do get less active as they have less room to kick round in.
Welcome to jo0niper. Sorry you are suffering. Are you on meds? Have you got kesostix to check for the early stages of dehydration?
Welcome too to Scoobysue10. I am glad that they have put you on anti emetics. What sort are they? How are you coping with the fluids? Here''s the list of fluids and what roughly passes for food, which has helped others. Flat full sugar coke, the juice of tinned fruit, ice lollies, Elderflower Water, Lucozade, Fizzy Orange, Dr Pepper, Lemonade, Soda Water, for some, orange juice, sips of chocolate milkshake - maybe soya, ice cubes, tinned fruit, nibbles of crisps and chips, cuppa soup, cheap ice cream and slices of melon and mango.
Those suggestions from Bored of lemon squash and cornflakes sound good. I've a vague memory about cornflakes sometimes working!
Nailsathome Lol about OH. That shows how unobservant men are, which is just as well perhaps, for one's vanity's sake...I am glad you got away, but much sympathy over whiney six year old. They do seem to go through a really whingey stage at that age, and I suppose it's the hidden anxiety about your hospital stay, too. Glad the scan went well.
Name I am shocked that with chapped lips and so on, they didn't admit you. Gentle cyber hugs on offer.
Emu Lol. Great advice for Name about the safety of meds.
Seize and Shehz This too has -well, almost - passed for you both!
Natsku How are things? Lovely to hear from you.
Bored I am so glad that there is a family rota going on. I have thought the same, as DD recently started work as a vet and as you say, seems to put animals on fluids as a matter of course if they have been vomiting.
Sorry if I've overlooked anyone. Watch me cross post.

sonypony · 11/02/2018 19:50

Home from a&e as only place to get treatment. Feeling quite a lot better and have had some food and drink but still feel ill and have come away without any meds so bound to be back to it in the morning. They've said I have to demand a gp appointment tomorrow (because they always claim to NEVER have any single appointment ever Hmm) so we'll see how that goes.

jo0niper · 11/02/2018 20:09

Oh dear ladies, I feel I need reassurance. I'm currently 8 weeks and had a scan a few days back that was fine. All last week I was bringing everything up, vomiting several times a day and was ketotic every day. However, yesterday I was sick in the morning but managed to eat a small meal and today I haven't been sick at all and kept quite a bit down - despite feeling quite queasy. I would love to hear that this variation in symptoms can be normal! It's making me panic :( Hope you are all feeling well

Anatidae · 11/02/2018 20:13

Yes variable symptoms are a thing. I range from feeling nauseous and queasy on a good hour to feeling unable to move on a bad one.

I suspect it’s not one single thing causing the sickness - it’s an interplay between tiredness, hormone levels, possible levels of factors secreted by the placenta, blood sugar, electrolytes, etc etc. With so many variables things are bound to wax and wane.

Anatidae · 11/02/2018 20:16

Good luck with the scan shehz if they do need to induce then that’s the safest thing to do.

TwoDrifters · 11/02/2018 20:33

Hello all! Thanks for the new thread LucindaE I’m still hovering and reading from afar even though I sadly don’t need this thread yet. (Happy not to have HG though sad not to be pregnant!)

Thinking lots of Bitzy - hope you’re ok Flowers

And justtheone don’t worry too much! I was born at 32 weeks and am fine and dandy Wink
