Should I refuse Vaccine?

Hi everyone,
I'm just over 28 weeks pregnant and my midwife has asked whether I have been vaccinated for Pertussis yet. I told her I had not as I had read about the Aluminium toxicity in the vaccine and decided against having it. She is being fairly pushy about it and now I don't know what to do. Help please!

Have it. Whooping cough kills babies.

SweepTheHalls · 03/01/2018 11:04

Why risk it?

Santasbigredbobblehat · 03/01/2018 11:05

Have the jab.

villainousbroodmare · 03/01/2018 11:06

Have it, of course! Whooping cough could kill your baby.

HerSymphonyAndSong · 03/01/2018 11:06

I have mine booked for next week. No idea about the aluminium toxicity you mention, but I am more concerned about the risk of whooping cough for a newborn

chocolateorangeowls · 03/01/2018 11:07

I had it, I wouldn't risk my baby getting whooping cough

Shutupanddance1 · 03/01/2018 11:08

Can you cite your sources for this aluminum toxicity? Is it peer reviewed?

You do realise there are chemicals in absolutely everything, not just vaccines?

I got mine first time round and will be getting it this time as well - whooping cough kills.

Psychobabble123 · 03/01/2018 11:08

Oh for crying out loud just get it done! Its for your baby not you, so try putting them first eh!

BattleCuntGalactica · 03/01/2018 11:09

Have. The. Vaccine. Don't even hesitate.

Figrollsnotfatrolls · 03/01/2018 11:09

16 years ago I nearly lost ds to whooping cough. He caught it on the maternity ward at a fortnight old. We had been kept in as I had bladder issues. The first night home he stopped breathing. Nobody should be trying to resusitate a new baby with siblings panicking he was going to die!! Get the jab op.

www.nhs.uk/Conditions/vaccinations/Pages/vaccine-ingredients.aspx

Have a look here under the Adjuvants in Vaccines section and then have a think about what the greater risk to your baby is likely to be, the vaccine or the disease. Personally, I'd have the vaccine, I've seen Whooping Cough in a friend's child and it is a really horrible disease.

M0MY32 · 03/01/2018 11:23

It contains 500mcg of Aluminium while the safe dose for my baby at the minute is only 8mcg? Also, on the leaflet it says it hasn't been tested on pregnant women "BOOSTRIX IPV . It is also not known
whether BOOSTRIX IPV can cause fetal harm when administered to a pregnant woman." There are also no studies to show definitively, if the antibodies actually get passed on to the baby. Just seems like it's not worth the risk of having a massive dose of a known neurotoxin such as aluminium injected into my body which might affect the development of the baby's brain?

HerSymphonyAndSong · 03/01/2018 11:27

How much of the aluminium would be transferred to the baby? And nearly all pregnancies within the last few years will have included the vaccine, so make of that what you will. I am far more concerned about the much-documented risks of whooping cough in a newborn. This is still your choice, so if you don’t want it, don’t have it

M0MY32 · 03/01/2018 11:27

The source for the toxicity levels is on the FDA website. 5mcg Aluminiuum per Kilogram of bodyweight and a recommended maximum of no more than 25mcg per day.

Whooping cough has killed babies, not even that long ago. There are no known cases of the vaccine killing babies.

PsychoPumpkin · 03/01/2018 11:30

I had the vaccine during my last two pregnancies, I had two full term, gloriously healthy newborns. They’re both still gloriously healthy and making a mess of my living room right now.

cricketqueen · 03/01/2018 11:31

I got it last time and will get it again this time. Whooping cough is very dangerous for newborn and I wouldn't risk my babies life. The antibodies has to the foetus not the vaccine. It's obviously your choice but I can't work out why you would risk your child getting a completely avoidable illness.

Ninjamilo · 03/01/2018 11:31

Your baby won't get the whole dose as it's being injected in to you, not them directly....

Please think of your baby

shhhfastasleep · 03/01/2018 11:33

Whooping cough nearly killed me. In my 50s now and my Mum died a couple of years ago. She was a tough person not given to dwelling on the many difficulties she faced in life. The one time I ever saw her crumple was, a few years ago, recounting my illness when I was a month or two old - she said she could still hear me crying and struggling to breath. She still remembered how it felt to be afraid I was going to die.

RavingRoo · 03/01/2018 11:33

The CDC have said it’s safe. The NHS say it’s safe. So where are you getting your info from, netmums? Hmm

The truth is that ‘14 babies under three months old died of pertussis in 2012, seven died in 2013, and another 18 died between 2013 and 2016.’ All in the UK. Review this from Oxford University -

JollyGiraffe · 03/01/2018 11:34

So what happens if you don't get the vaccine, and your baby got whooping cough?

That would be ok would it?

RavingRoo · 03/01/2018 11:35

The FDA say this to cover their backs but nothing has been linked to this vaccine at all, and US doctors routinely provide it. This is why you need to get your info from a medical professional!

FacelikeaBagofHammers · 03/01/2018 11:37

Whooping cough kills babies. Unless you are qualified in medical science, you're not equipped to make these calls (and I mean that in the kindest way.)

Vaccinate, vaccinate, vaccinate.

HerSymphonyAndSong · 03/01/2018 11:41

THis is the info on Boostrix-IPV that the NHS links to here www.medicines.org.uk/emc/medicine/28679

“Pregnancy

Safety data from a prospective observational study where Boostrix (dTpa component of Boostrix-IPV) was administered to pregnant women during the third trimester (793 pregnancy outcomes) as well as data from passive surveillance where pregnant women were exposed to Boostrix-IPV or to Boostrix in the 3rd and 2nd trimester have shown no vaccine related adverse effect on pregnancy or on the health of the foetus/newborn child.

The use of Boostrix-IPV may be considered during the third trimester of pregnancy.

Human data from prospective clinical studies on the use of Boostrix-IPV during the first and second trimester of pregnancy are not available. However, as with other inactivated vaccines, it is not expected that vaccination with Boostrix-IPV harms the foetus at any trimester of pregnancy. The benefits versus the risks of administering Boostrix-IPV during pregnancy should be carefully evaluated.

Animal studies do not indicate direct or indirect harmful effects with respect to pregnancy, embryonal/foetal development, parturition or post-natal development (see section 5.3).

Limited data indicate that maternal antibodies may reduce the magnitude of the immune response to some vaccines in infants born from mothers vaccinated with Boostrix-IPV during pregnancy. The clinical relevance of this observation is unknown.”

sashh · 03/01/2018 11:41

Don't eat any tuna or aluminium pans then. Actually you should probably be avoiding water.

Some better information for you
