Hi everyone!

I'm due my first baby mid April! A little boy!

I'm feeling a bit in the dark when it comes to certain things, I haven't done a birth plan or had any proper checks really, the midwives have been quite dismissive and don't really explain things/discuss much with me so I don't really feel like I know what going on Sad

I go every 4 weeks and they check my blood pressure, baby's heart and ask if I think I'm okay, and even when I say no they just dismiss me and say if you're concerned ring triage...

Should they be doing more??? I just feel like I have no idea what's going on/what I should be doing!!

AnnaMadden · 11/02/2018 16:17

@Bez9087 I'll try a bath later...just got back from Boots and they gave me some cream so I'm hoping that kicks in soon. I'll give it a couple of days then go to docs if it doesn't start getting better as I seriously can't put up with this pain for another 8 weeks...or longer! 😣

Bez9087 · 11/02/2018 16:51

@anna I feel for you I can remember the pain from when I had them with my son. Hopefully the cream works.
@ftmtb that’s all they basically do really at the midwife checks. Are you seeing them at the weeks guided in your notes? There’s a page which states what weeks you should be seen etc. All they do usually is blood pressure, check urine, ask if any concerns and feel, listen to baby. I never did a birth plan with my first all I knew was wanted skin to skin when she was born and just sort of winged every thing else. Some people love birth plans some don’t. This is my fourth pregnancy, I haven’t done birth plans with any of the other three, this one the only plan I have done is elective section due to previous birth. Usually the plans go out the window when you get there but if it makes you feel at ease there is a section at back of your notes with points to consider for birth plans. Congratulations on your pregnancy Smile welcome to the April board. Not long left now.
31+1 today for me and boy am I feeling it?! Nesting has well and truly kicked in the whole house has been gutted from top to bottom, homes for all the babies things found and put away and even re arranged the play room. I will sleep tonight lol!

ftmtb · 11/02/2018 18:07

@Bez9087 thank you!!! As it's my first baby I was just concerned as I feel like I don't really know what's going on it's all a bit mad!! I'll be 31 weeks tomorrow, I can't wait!

Not really sleeping due to heartburn and SPD and peeing 100 times a night haha!!

AnnaMadden · 11/02/2018 18:35

@ftmtb I have SPD too...It's awful hey!

ftmtb · 11/02/2018 18:38

@AnnaMadden it really is so bad, I also get a horrendous, horrible stitch like pain across my Bump when walking for longer than a minute or two, I have no idea what this is as my midwife dismissed it and my doctor said it's probably tied into SPD but I can't see how Confused anyone else have anything similar??

Bez9087 · 11/02/2018 19:27

Iv just got some more tablets from dr as the heartburn was driving me insane. Gaviscon wasn’t touching it. Thank god these tablets seem to be working.
I have pelvic girdle pain which is apparently same as spd just people use different names for it was really lucky and got into physio but there can be a big wait depending on your area. I found keeping my knees together when moving out the car etc really helps.
@ftmtb I get stitch pains in my bump at side and lower bit of it if I do too much walking or even sometimes walk too quick just from the car to school it’s ridiculous. Will be worth it all in the end for our gorgeous babies though.
I’m on official countdown now I want to get to my next scan a week on Thursday then every week after that is a bonus. The girls are more active today after scaring me since Thursday after the first steroid injection as no one warned me it would make them sleepy. But back to having an octopus in my stomach today, legs and arms here and there and bladder feels so bruised like it’s being squeezed to the point I may wee then it stops Confused perfect for making you feel like your gonna wet yourself lol! Lots of low down kicks too so guessing they are still breech! Naughty girls! Haha

amysaurus87 · 11/02/2018 21:31

I get the same stitch pain as well, especially if I walk too fast or do too much, midwife said it was normally and most likely round ligament pain.

Heartburn is horrific but thankfully gaviscon is helping it enough that I can sleep, at least until I need the toilet or baby decides it doesn't like the position I'm in and starts a little party to wake me up!

31 weeks today, I can't believe we are all on the final stretch now, I've got 4ish weeks left at work and I can't wait to not have the hour commute everyday!

dkb15164 · 13/02/2018 11:49

Antenatal classes are getting skipped today after last weeks "I'm more miserable than you" competition. Texted DM (30 years experience as midwife) to ask her if she thought it was okay if I dropped out of them and she said to fudge them and have a cuppa and cake and watch one born every minute insteadHalo. I'm 70% moved into new flat now and have the nursery painted with the help of DP and DM (see picture), living room gets painted tomorrow, wooden floorboards get laid on Friday, carpets in all the bedrooms steam cleaned Saturday and the last of my furniture, cookware and books moved through on Sunday Brew. Never mind the 4000 word essay plus presentation due on Tuesday Shock. Big 20th birthday tomorrow, wish I could have a wee gin and tonicGin to celebrate but guess the promise of one in 9 weeks or so will have to suffice. DP taking me to my favourite Indian restaurant (not the most romantic but it's what I like) and I'm getting haircut before as it's been 5 months Blush. Has anybody got their eyelashes tinted during pregnancy? Would really like to but not 100% if it's safe or not. Hope everyone's doing well and babies are all kicking away (DP can now feel when she's rolling over). ThanksThanksThanks

Got a stinking cough and cold for the second time this winter - only recovered from the last one 3 weeks ago! Hope you are all doing well despite various aches and pains!

dkb15164 Happy birthday! Nursery looks lovely.

AnnaMadden · 13/02/2018 17:10

Nursery looks fab...finished ours too at the weekend...well apart from the nursing chair as it's still out of stock!

Loving the nursery photos! Ours is still a work in progress after we got sent a wrong piece in our changing unit flat pack. Hoping to sort it at the weekend and then get everything washed and into drawers. Haven’t got a mattress for the cot yet either, not sure we’ll bother with that just yet.

Harry I feel your pain, I’ve also got a cough and cold. Not fun in the slightest! I always feel so bad for baby when I cough as my bump looks so squished 😂😩

Happy Birthday dkb, and good luck with your assignment and presentation.

Hope all well with everyone else, and those suffering with spd are managing okay. I really feel for you all, it sounds just awful.

amysaurus87 · 14/02/2018 06:43

The nursery photos lovely! Really makes me wish I didn't live in a 1 bed flat at the moment!

We've ordered a few more bits, and our Snuzpod is being delivered on Friday which is nice so we can get that set up soon! Still have loads of other bits and bobs to buy!

I start ante-natal classes soon, not the NCT ones as couldn't get on to them! Is anyone else going to classes, if so how are you finding them?

buzzbottom · 14/02/2018 06:46

I finished our nursery on Monday!

Happy Birthday @dkb15164 Hope you have a great day.

Wow, all the nurseries look really fab :)

Got my Midwife app today, and praying that we can solve the mystery of my sky high sugar levels. I've been sugar free for 2 weeks now, and it has been the toughest 2 weeks of my life. Really hoping that I get good news!!

Bez9087 · 14/02/2018 11:03

Happy birthday @dkb Cake
Good luck with the midwife @clairebear

ClaireBear1986 · 14/02/2018 11:15

Thanks @Bez9087.
Praying she tells me I can have something sweet now, as I am craving it like you wouldn't believe.

Seeing everyone with their pancakes yest almost made me cry. Ha

Bez9087 · 14/02/2018 21:10

How did you get on @claire?
Iv had the midwife come out today to me as had convinced myself I was showing signs of pre eclampsia Confused headache, eyes not focusing etc. Anyway turns out I was fine. I kept feeling light headed and dizzy when I was here and she was trying to talk me into going to day unit for them to monitor me and admit me but I know the minute they do they won’t let me out (sounds strange but they keep saying admitting me for rest etc) so I’m trying to avoid it as best I can and made hubby promise mw I will take it easy and make sure I rest whilst he’s off etc and she was happy with that but told me any more stomach cramps etc I’m to go straight up. It puts me off phoning them as like I said a few times they keep mentioning being admitted and all I can think of is how long until they will likely be here and that spent in hospital worrying about my other two. I know it sounds selfish but apart from the feeling dizzy etc I’m fine in myself all be it peed off heavy and pregnant but that’s to be expected. They was very understanding though.
Had a nice warm bath tonight and managed to convince hubby to paint my toes for me. He’s a keeper Halo so sat here whilst he paints my toes for me. Hoping they won’t need doing again before the girls arrive. Haha wishful thinking though I think!

DaisyLand · 15/02/2018 07:17

Hi
How is it going ! I’m under the 2 month left mark ! Scary !

Yesterday had a date with little boy. Of course being Valentine’s Day hewsnted his mummy to be dependant on him so decided to be quiet til I laid down on te hospitals bed. So kind of him. Luckily I was discharged quickly

Also I had had a sweep last week as I keep having high protein or leucocyte in the urine. Well , they’ve said I’ve got group b bacteria. How lucky of me ! I know someone was wondering about it and was gonna do it privately. My mw did it for me last week as I kept having those high every now and again. So when in labour I’ll have to have the medicines just after waters break or contractions start. On the one hand perfect as I know they won’t send me home just cuz I’ve obly dilated 1 cm. However I saw some news yesterday that someone from my neighbourhood got caught in traffic when she was in labouf when she was on her way my hospital and had to deliver the baby on the car. Yeah that’s a nice story to read to someone that has just been told about the bacteria! I’ve got antenatal appointment st the end of the month and each day I’ve got more clear I don’t want to wait til 40w for having the baby and want him out around 38-39.

Hope your days are easier than mine !

Have you started packing a hospital bag?

I realised that I should probably start soon as I'll be 33 weeks in a couple of days and it's really creeping up on me this time!!

My cousin has just had a baby (a couple of days ago) and I'm even more eager to meet mine now!!

DD4 just came into bed for a cuddle, she said "I love the whole family and I even love the baby" and kissed my bump.

Midwife for me today because I forgot about last week (and DD had chicken pox so I wouldn't have been able to go anyway!)

DaisyLand · 15/02/2018 08:32

Hospital bag? what's taht hehehe i've got a few things bought , still need to get a few more.

BTW i saw an iger yesterday talkinga bout sheets on the pram, do you normally put one on the pram's mattress?

OP posts:
Bez9087 · 15/02/2018 08:49

Mines packed and in the boot ready but only because we are now on high alert for preterm labour. So many false starts but they don’t think I’ll get to my section date so they have told me to be ready.
@daisy we used them with my son in his pram when in the carrycot bit only because he was such a sicky baby and it saved the mattress. With my daughter we didn’t. To be fair sometimes for my son I used to fold a Muslin up in long rectangle and put that under his head so it caught the sick without staining my pram. I’ll probably do it this way for the girls too.

ClaireBear1986 · 15/02/2018 09:17

All went well thanks @Bez9087. My urine sample was clear at long last. Yayyyy :) It does however mean that I have to stick to this sugar free diet until he is born.

As soon as he is born, I will be sending DP to McDs for a McFlurry as I have been craving one so badly.

Hope you are feeling better now Bez? When do you go on maternity leave? Hopefully lots of rest will do you the world of good.

Bez9087 · 15/02/2018 10:33

That’s good news your urine was clear @claire.
I don’t get maternity leave I’m a stay at home mum, got made redundant when my son was 1 and a half so took the chance to stay at home with him and pick dd up from school each day just happened as my dh got a pay rise so we was no better or worse off me not working. He’s since had another pay rise so I stay at home look after the house sort kids etc and he works Full time. Was looking at going back when my son got the nursery grant but if we topped up his hours for me to work we wasn’t entitled to any help with nursery fee or after school club fees etc so I thought sod it whilst we can and very lucky enough that dh can support us I’m going to make the most of it. Timed it well with these two due aswell. I find it hard to rest with my two already and then feel so bad on dh working etc then coming home and having to cook or clean etc because I physically can’t but then need to remind myself I’m growing two humans and it’s heavy and hard work... it’s heavy and hard growing one never mind two.
Feeling a bit better today not as dizzy and lightheaded. It’s mine and dh wedding Annuversary today so hoping I have the energy later to cook the nice meal I have planned lol! Don’t fancy tea out with my two (ds isnt well anyway) and the fact I feel like a walking whale so can’t get comfy in my own house in pjs so would be a nightmare out at a restaurant. So will make it up to him next year and try and bribe someone to look after the tribe Confused
Hope we are all okay?

emvy · 15/02/2018 10:43

Bez keep up the rest! Hope you can stay at home until the last moment and don’t have to be admitted, that would be so rubbish.

Daisy, it’s such an unlikely thing to happen although as you say, incredibly unhelpful at this point in your pregnancy and when you know you need treatment as soon as labour starts! I’m sure that won’t happen though. Babies are very rarely born en route to hospital, despite what tv programmes might suggest.

Claire, so glad your urine sample is clear - wahoo! Not long to go until you get that McFlurry!

Bit of advice required - last night I was woken up by painful cramps across my bump and in my back. I was awake for maybe an hour and then they eased slightly and I fell back asleep. They’re continuing this morning and I’m now feeling really sick, too. I’ve drank lots of water this morning in an attempt to make sure I’m properly hydrated but not really sure what else to do. I’m away on holiday (about 3 hours from home) so I’m reluctant to ring the advice line as I can’t really go in anywhere. We’re only here until tomorrow. I guess I just want to know if anyone else is experiencing any cramps and discomfort, and what this might be? Could it just be my body preparing itself? I’m 32 weeks tomorrow. Baby is still moving normally.
