Hello again ladies :)

So happy to hear of the positive scans, flutters and kicks and Flowers to all.

I've been a bit up and down since I last posted. Had some mild nausea last week but that's faded completely, I've also had a lot of cramping and spotting. It feels very much like the last time I was pg tbh. I contacted the antenatal dept to check what I should say about my LMP (you have to state the exact LMP date on the self referral form but I have no idea - my periods are scant and infrequent!) and they told me I was definitely 5 weeks because Clearblue said 3+ Hmm. I explained that I thought the LMP was most likely to have been in July which would put me much further along but she insisted I was 5 weeks based on the Clearblue...so that just left me confused and annoyed.

I think I want a scan asap as I really feel that it's stopped again, but not sure what to do as I don't want to upset DH unnecessarily. He's so excited. I think I can self refer to EPU, or pay for an early private scan - are there any pros/cons for either in your opinions?

emvy · 30/10/2017 18:08

Halloumi, congratulations on a positive scan - it's wonderful isn't it?! So pleased for you.

Welcome waterfeature. It's such a nerve wracking time. Try and keep busy as much as you can, I know it's easier said than done.

AnUtter, congrats on 32 weeks - wow! How exciting!! Completely understandable with the superstition - it's so hard to override how silly it sounds isn't it? I've become so superstitious!

Ektoplasmicsis, good luck with your harmony results and for your scan on Thursday. Will be thinking of you! Have you had a name change?

NoParticular, also best of luck for GTT tomorrow. I know it's a pain having to fast for a day but I guess at least it's better than having it?! Although very annoying when you've been feeling so well that they insist on doing it anyway!

Brogueish, I fell pregnant with this pregnancy straight off the back of a miscarriage so also had trouble dating - I too used a clear blue digital and it turns out it was pretty much bang on (dated just one day out at my 12 week scan). So although it seems weird to use that as a method, it worked well for me! I'm not sure which to advise on really in terms of scans - I can't self refer to EPU and I think even if I could, they wouldn't have scanned me without cause anyway. I was always reluctant to pay privately as I didn't want to risk it having gone wrong and finding out like that. Hence I waited until 12 weeks in the end. Sorry not much help!

emvy · 30/10/2017 18:37

Oh I forgot to ask! I have my 16 week midwife appointment on Thursday (I'll be 16+6). For those of you further along/with older dc, did they listen for the heartbeat? I spoke to my mum about it, who is a specialist midwife, and she said they shouldn't because it's no longer in the current guidelines. Apparently because it's still quite difficult to hear the heartbeat at 16 weeks and women were being referred for emergency scans and therefore becoming incredibly panicked, only for in almost all cases, the baby was fine it was just lying in a difficult position. Basically, it was worrying mums unnecessarily and wasting resources. However, she said midwives do still listen for the heartbeat as "habits die hard" and women expect it. Basically, I don't know whether to ask my midwife to listen in if she doesn't do it automatically - what are your experiences? Did they do it automatically or did you have to ask? Sorry that was so waffly! 🙈

MsJuniper · 30/10/2017 19:21

They didn’t listen at mine, I was surprised. She said it was for the reason you mention.

Bisset80 · 31/10/2017 06:18

Feeling terrified, have pains going all across my tummy, I'm 8+3, going to ring my midwife as soon as I can, scares to tell my partner hence why I have came here I know you ladies will understand what I'm going through what I'm feeling right now!! Please keep your fingers legs and toes crossed for me Sad

MsJuniper · 31/10/2017 07:08

Everything crossed for you Bisset. Are the pains constant or did they come when you moved/stood up? Could it be round ligament pain?

hotcookie · 31/10/2017 07:54

I hope everything is OK Bisset fingers are crossed for you.

emvy I had my 16 week appt last week and the midwife listened for a heartbeat (she did make it quite clear that she might not find it, and not to worry if she didn't) but she did, and it was quite awesome!

My shooting pain in my buttock seems to be slightly better, physio last week thought it was my back and did some work on that, especially my muscle on that side-I was in agony for 2 days but I do feel better now, which may partly be how careful I'm being at work (physical, on my feet a lot, bending & lifting generally unavoidable, and unpredictable moving loads! It's just a perfect storm really! I'm not lifting ANYTHING more than 5-6 kg from the floor, and trying to avoid as much bending as possible) I'm also doing Pilates & still going to physio...

I bought some maternity jeans from ebay (seraphine) and obviously I don't have a bump to fill them yet but wondering if the waist is supposed to be so huge, like will my bump fill them? there is a big stretchy waistband, but the waistband bit is MASSIVE and there is probably a 4-5inch gap at the back. Is that just so they are comfy? (They really are!) Fit grand over my bum & thighs, and I do often have issues with gappy backs of trousers, so I wasn't sure if it was just a me thing, or how it is supposed to be?

hotcookie · 31/10/2017 07:56

That didn't make much sense-I mean the jean type waistband is massive with a huge gap, the stretchy bit is big too but that's not what I meant!

Hazandduck · 31/10/2017 08:16

How are you feeling @bisset? If they are going across your tummy they sound like ligament pains, I’ve had them in every trimester, but it still freaked me out every time. Is it worse when you move suddenly (sit up/stand up etc). Everything is stretching and there is a lot going on in there! Hope all is ok xx

UnicornsandRainbows1 · 31/10/2017 08:18

@Ektoplasmicsis Sorry for the late reply. I'm doing a bit better pain wise. Just made an appointment for today to try and get anti-sickness meds because yesterday at work was horrible and I can't really just wonder off to be sick if I have a customer (both on phone and in person).

Hazandduck · 31/10/2017 08:19

@hotcookie my maternity jeans have massive stretch on them and still fall down my bum now, but feel so incredible on my bump, so lovely and soft! And I have a bump that really sticks out at the front. I don’t feel like I’ve fully filled mine out (38 weeks) but I’ve worn them from 2nd trimester and love them. I actually showed my friend (not pregnant and no children) them the other day and she said she bought the same ones ages ago because they are so much comfier than leggings and jeans ha. Think I’ll keep wearing them well after Baby is here! They are from NL and the legs are nice and skinny, it’s just the waist that is loose x

Ektoplasmicsis · 31/10/2017 09:40

Oh @brogueish sorry you’re feeling off. Have you had your booking yet? I’m not sure what to suggest - possibly call epu? I honestly don’t know if you can though? My experience of private scans is limited. I don’t think I’d mention the clearblue; I’d mention what I thought was my lmp but you’re unsure due to irregular periods. But emvy’s experience is probably better.

Could you go to the gp?

Thanks emvy, sorry, it’s Ekphrasis here.

Hope you’re ok @Bisset80? It could be stretching round ligament pain. How are you today?

Sorry you’re feeling so sick @UnicornsandRainbows1, do you have a scan booked? Fingers crossed all is well. I really found the early weeks just horrendous due to worry.

Ekphrasis · 31/10/2017 09:47

Back to name, that’s better!

I looked up cr measurements and gest age etc and worked out the private scan at the harmony must have been out. I think I must be what I put myself at. If I go by their dates (I was put forward 8 days from lmp) I ovulated on day 6/7 at the latest. Given we didn’t start even dtd till day 10 due to jet lag and a nasty virus and my opk showed ov on day 11, 10 at the earliest, it’s immaculate conception! So I’m correcting myself back to 12 weeks today, not 12+ 4 as they say. Lmp would be 11+3.

Can babies have growth spurts in the womb?! Or it’s faulty equipment! She even mentioned a day more than what she settled at at one point!

UnicornsandRainbows1 · 31/10/2017 12:17

@Ekphrasis I have some anti sickness meds now (Cyclizine or something) so hopefully that works.

Also I found out that they were never supposed to call me, it's supposed to be a letter from the Dr that you take to the EPU (the thought of waiting in the same waiting room makes me feel horrible) but luckily the scan is only a few days away and there's less hip pain anyway except for when I sneeze and stuff.

Bisset80 · 31/10/2017 12:35

Hey ladies I have an appointment at the early pregnancy unit for tomorrow morning, if pains get worse or any bleeding to go to a and e, they only way I can describe the pains is it's like flashes of lightening going across my tummy, they happen when I'm still also xx

Ekphrasis · 31/10/2017 12:44

Fingers crossed for you unicorn And hope the meds help.

It’s strange bisset but hopefully some strange growing pains? Perhaps there’s a nerve being irritated or something? Fingers crossed for tomorrow for you.

Bisset80 · 31/10/2017 16:34

@ekp I hope so!! Still no bleeding so thing that as good news xxx

brogueish · 31/10/2017 18:29

Ty ekphrasis and emvy. I actually have an update: I caved and had a private scan this afternoon, and everything looks fine, she measured me at 7+5! In shock but so glad I went for it. Of course this is only a snapshot and I'm not getting carried away but it was so precious seeing a heartbeat. We've never had the opportunity to see that before Halloween Smile

Bisset so glad you've got a scan tomorrow. Hope that it can put your mind at ease. Its such a stressful time Flowers

Brenna24 · 31/10/2017 21:44

Great news Brogue.

Good luck tomorrow Bisset

I have overbump jeggings. They are not loose on me, but are so comfy on my bump. They don't feel like they are falling down either (well, not often anyway).

Hazandduck · 31/10/2017 22:45

Good luck for tomorrow @Bisset, I had terrible pains from constipation and wind in the first tri Blush I was convinced I wasn’t miscarrying so many times. Hopefully it is something totally harmless like that!

I’m having a raspberry leaf tea before bed because my anxiety is through the roof and I just want Baby here now! X
