Hi, I'm new to the pregnancy board. I've just found out that I am pregnant with my 2nd (4 weeks today) and the NHS calculator says all being well I will be due around 12th May.

I couldn't see any threads for May yet - anyone just found out and want to join me?

DS has just turned 7 so I'm a bit rusty on this whole pregnancy thing!

@DareToDream89 im so sorry, thinking of you! x

Last few nights I have been having some horrible dreams where I have been waking up to awful headaches. I have been to the pharmacy today seeing if there’s anything they can suggest to help even if lavender oil on my pillow and I was told no nothing its not safe during pregnancy and to speak to my doctors they couldn’t think of anything either.
Hopefully the dreams will calm down once I’ve had my first scan on Monday.
Any advice will be greatly appreciated!

rasberryandlime · 31/10/2017 21:50

@Fizzysx I think pharmacists always seem to sit on the side on caution, one wouldn’t even sell me paracetamol when pregnant and said I needed to go through gp! So I went to the corner shop and brought a pack!
I got lots of similar dreams early on, i think with me it was mostly fear of something going wrong which was on my mind pretty much constantly. Trying to relax and really switch off and clear my mind as much as possible before going to sleep helped, Best thing for me was to read a book until I drifted off reading, but try whatever works for you. Hopefully after your scan this will really help as your mind will be more at ease and you will feel more relaxed.
In terms of pain for headaches I think paracetamol is pretty much the only thing otc that can be used in pregnancy - sure there are other options the dr can give you though if needed, hope they get better soon

Hello!

First baby, first post!

I am 12 weeks tomorrow and due 16th May (going by last period!) absolutely delighted but absolutely terrified! Such a worrier anyway so now I am 10 x worse!

I’m feeling very tired, like exhausted all the time! and although sickness and nausea has Almost gone, I still have that horrible taste in my mouth no matter how many times I clean my teeth or how much gum I chew!

How is everyone else feeling?

This is all so exciting!

Fizzysx · 01/11/2017 08:20

@rasberryandlime thank you for the advice. Had a cup of hot chocolate before bed and it seemed to do the trick for last night. My friend suggested that lush sleepy lavender body lotion so might also try that.
I do think alot more research needs to be done for medications during pregnancy as no one seems to know 100% with most medications so stick with the caution. I struggle with allergies and obviously cant take antihistamines but midwife said you can take piriton just the child’s dosage and sparingly.

Kit17 · 01/11/2017 12:39

Oh dear. Had a little bit of bleeding today, got sent for a scan and there was no heartbeat. They also said it looked like it was only 7wks when according to my last period I'm 11 - will ask the nurse what that's all about!

Anyway, good luck with your pregnancies everyone - hopefully I'll be back on a similar board soon. 🙂

PatchworkWellies · 01/11/2017 13:10

@daretodream & @kit17, so sorry for your loss 💐. @fizzysx, I have also been having vivid, scary dreams (mostly about being caught up in terrorist attacks 😔). I remember a similar episode in 1st trimester last time but it did pass. Also been getting headaches - which I never usually get - I usually don't do anything about them but paracetamol if I'm struggling. Again, remember having these early on last time but they went away. I'm 10+2 now so hoping symptoms will ease soonish

Mayah · 01/11/2017 13:17

@Firsttimechloe91 welcome to the thread. So happy for you. I've just got over the nausea and sickness, but like you I'm just constantly tired all the time! If I could nap every half hour I would. I'm 9 + 7 weeks today.

@Kit17 gosh, I'm so sorry to hear that. Does that mean it stopped growing at 7weeks? Good luck for the future hun xx

I'm yet to have any appointments with a midwife. I was told to call my GP to check myself in with a midwife, which I did 3 weeks ago. They gave me an appointment for Monday 30th October. When I turned up, they told me it was just an app to refer me to the hospital which will take a further few weeks ??? They couldn't have done that 3 weeks ago when I called? So now I'm just waiting for a referal letter.

firsttimechloe91 · 01/11/2017 15:36

@Mayah I was supposed to have my appointment at the hospital on Monday but the cancelled last minute due to being over booked! I know what you mean about needing to nap, I’m lucky I work split shifts so I have about an hour and a half - 2 hours nap in the afternoon, still wake up exhausted though!

I have my scan on Friday morning, so excited!

JC30 · 02/11/2017 08:20

Oh gosh - @DareToDream89 and @Kit17 So sorry to hear your news. That’s so gutting. Really hope you’re both doing as ok as possible. Look after yourselves.

Has anyone started experiencing hip pain? I’m 13 + 5 and am really struggling to sleep because I wake up every hour or so with really painful hips. I’ve got a pregnancy pillow but that doesn’t really support my hips and there’s barely any room for my poor husband in the bed after I’ve got that in position & a shed load of other cushions! Not sure I’m that keen on this carrying on for the next 6 months - I was hoping to get as much sleep in as possible before baby arrives Wink Any tips?

McTootBlowsOnHisBagpipe · 02/11/2017 21:25

Oh Kit17 sorry to hear that.

JC30, no hip pain here... yet, but I did have it with my last pregnancy. I used to find walking on the stones at the beach really helped, or maybe it was just the fact I made myself tired by walking. But it certainly eased it a lot. (Obviously a completely useless suggestion if you're not near a stoney beach).

firsttimechloe91 · 02/11/2017 22:23

@JC30 yes to hip pain!! Started yesterday! I’m not sleeping either, can’t remember the last time I slept all night! Falling asleep is ok but I wake up around 2 and feel like I just doze until around 6.30!

Anyone else having trouble sleeping?

nats1017 · 02/11/2017 22:31

@firsttimechloe91 yes!!!! I’m soooo tired all the time yet at night I fall asleep easily and then wake up every night between 2 and 3am. Sometimes I can be wide awake for an hour or 2 for no reason and then I’m shattered again when my alarm goes off. Very strange as I’ve always been a very deep sleeper!

JC30 · 02/11/2017 22:45

@McTootBlowsOnHisBagpipe Aw unfortunately I don’t live near the sea, but I do have plenty of bumpy pavements around my house so maybe that’ll do the trick! I think I’ll definitely try and up my walking each day to see if that helps. @firsttimechloe91 I’ll let you know if I find any remedies for the painful hips and lack of sleep - although I’m sure if someone did they’d be a millionaire Grin

PatchworkWellies · 03/11/2017 11:35

Definitely yes to the sleeping problems! Usually wake in early hours to wee (also new thing since pregnancy) and if it's any later than 2 I seem to find it impossible to go back to sleep- lay awake for over 2 hours last night.

BethFrances · 03/11/2017 13:14

Hi all

First ever post! Found out I was expecting my first a few weeks ago and my dating scan last week gave me a due date of 7th May. Although baby was a surprise my partner and I are both really happy and excited. Although I'm 13+4 I've still been having extream nausea that's completely put me off food, especially in the evenings and I can't keep any vitamin or folic acid tablets down which is obviously worrying my partner and mother, has anyone else had this or do they have any tips? I'm seeing the consultant at the hospital next Wednesday (standard practice here for first time mothers, unsure about everywhere else) and I will mention it then.

Hope everyone else is feeling a bit better then I have been!

MumRuns77 · 03/11/2017 21:49

Sadly out of the club - missed miscarriage detected and looks like baby died 3 weeks ago. All the best with all your pregnancies! Wishing you the best. Xx

MilfordFound · 04/11/2017 18:47

Oh no Mumruns77 I'm really sorry to hear that. Sounds like you found out at the scan, every mums worst nightmare. Really sorry you lost your baby. Thinking of you xx

firsttimechloe91 · 04/11/2017 23:41

@MumRuns77 really sorry to hear that :( that’s heartbreaking. Thoughts are with you..

firsttimechloe91 · 04/11/2017 23:44

@BethFrances have you tried using Sea Bands? I started to use them around week 4 and haven’t taken them off since! They have worked wonders for me. Not expensive either.. they don’t make the sickness go away completely but it just takes the edge off. That and snacking on fruit.. I was literally eating a punnet of raspberries in one sitting!!

Hope that helps a little bit!

C x

BethFrances · 05/11/2017 11:30

@firsttimechloe91 hi, I haven't tried sea bands, will pick some up either today or tomorrow, willing to try most things ATM! Thanks

BlueSky1980 · 05/11/2017 19:38

I am so sorry to hear about your losses @DareToDream89, @Kit17 & @MumRuns77

  • be kind to yourselves & stay positive for the future.

Hello @BethFrances & congratulations on your unexpected (but exciting) news. Hopefully your sickness will wear off soon.. don’t panic about your folic acid but definitely ask about any advice at your appointment.
I’m now 14+5 weeks & my bump is getting bigger by the day. Desperately trying to control the food consumption, but my constant hunger has been hard to control this week & the fact it’s been my first alcohol free birthday for 20 years this week, means I have even indulged in cake for breakfast twice (I apologised to baby bump for the lack of nutrition!!)

If anyone needs ideas for bump appropriate tops, I raided primark & new look this week & found some great longer line (non maternity) vest tops that I bought two sizes too big (I’m a 8 or 10 usually & bought some 14 & some 12) so they fit over the bump nicely without looking like a sack but still have room to stretch. Combined with open shirts / cardigans (or some loose shirts buttoned over the too) they will do for at least a few more months & were super cheap. I also found a few loose / longer blouse / tunic tops in Primark that will work too with maternity skinny black jeans.

I finally feel feel ok about my body - the bump now makes me feel pregnant - not just frumpy & a bit fat (how I felt in the first trimester).

Good luck to anyone having dating scans this week Smile

nats1017 · 06/11/2017 06:56
