Hi, I'm new to the pregnancy board. I've just found out that I am pregnant with my 2nd (4 weeks today) and the NHS calculator says all being well I will be due around 12th May.

I couldn't see any threads for May yet - anyone just found out and want to join me?

DS has just turned 7 so I'm a bit rusty on this whole pregnancy thing!

@DareToDream89 Do you have an epu near you that you could go to? I don't have experience but know lots of people get a scan there if they've experienced bleeding.

DareToDream89 · 29/10/2017 09:10

@Hannahf89 this is going to sound stupid but what's an epu? X

Hannahf89 · 29/10/2017 09:15

@DareToDream89 It's an emergency pregnancy unit - they're usually at the hospital. The one near me runs like an A&E service so you just turn up. I think others you might have to be referred to by your Dr. Might be worth a check.

DareToDream89 · 29/10/2017 09:33

@Hannahf89 I don't know if there is one near me. I might call out of hours gp and see what they say. Thank you xx

McTootBlowsOnHisBagpipe · 29/10/2017 10:19

My local EPU isn't open at the weekends, see what the GP says, but I've had to call up at 7.30am on a Monday morning before and get seen. Hope everything is ok

rasberryandlime · 29/10/2017 10:50

@DareToDream89 try not to worry, I know seeing any blood at all when pregnant is scary, but everything is more than likely fine, particularly as it is brown blood which is not fresh blood. Look on your local hospital website and see if they have an early pregnancy assessment unit, they usually show the phone number so you can give them a call directly (mine have always been lovely when I’ve called), and they’ll tell you what to do. If they’re not open at weekends they will give you an appointment for Monday (or tell you how to get one if you need to go through go) if they think it is necessary, or they will be able to reassure you on the phone.

rasberryandlime · 29/10/2017 10:56

*go through gp

DareToDream89 · 29/10/2017 11:07

Thanks everyone I've spoken to my gp and they said go to A&E as they can't do anything at the surgery. My DH has said to try and rest today and we will see how the day goes. I don't have any pain at the moment apart from a bit of tummy ache but DH thinks that's down to the greasy take away I had last night and possibly nerves as well. Just going to take it easy and see how the day progresses. Fingers crossed everything will be ok. Xx

LadyPug · 29/10/2017 15:27

How are you feeling now daretodream

DareToDream89 · 29/10/2017 16:58

@LadyPug still not 100% have had a sleep this afternoon and still having some spotting. In 2 minds as to what to do x

rasberryandlime · 29/10/2017 20:16

@DareToDream89 try not to worry, although I know how much easier said than done that is. I would try calling your midwife tomorrow and see if they will refer you to an early pregnancy unit to give you some reassurance, if you go through a&e they will also refer you there so you also have that option, but it can just mean a long wait wait in a&e and then another wait for a scan if needed/ One of the times I had bleeding I went to a&e on a Sunday evening, the doctor there examined me then booked me in for a scan on the Monday morning, but I did have to wait around for about 2.5 hours to see anyone in a&e.

DareToDream89 · 29/10/2017 20:27

@rasberryandlime thank you, I'm going to call my midwife in morning for some reassurance. I spoke to a midwife last night but it wasn't my midwife it was one from the hospital. My DH has sent me to bed to rest and see how I go through the night. Just had a major emotional moment tears and all as I had more spotting but it was darker brown this time. He said not to worry and just get some rest and see what happens. I'm just so scared and suffer with anxiety anyway so right now I'm a nervous wreck. So nice to be able to get such support and advice from you all tho. Thank you x

rasberryandlime · 29/10/2017 21:17

@DareToDream89 I know the feeling, if it helps at all I had several nights in tears convinced I was loosing my baby, the night I went to a&e I had bright blood and didn’t sleep all night whilst I waited for a scan at EPU the following day. As you have probably seen from my post my baby is doing ok so far. It may be that you have a small bleed which doesn’t impact baby at all, or some leftover implementation bleeding, they will be able to see that on an ultrasound. The EPU said to me that although early bleeding isn’t normal, it’s much more common that you would think, and often doesn’t mean anything is wrong. I would really push for an early scan referral when you speak to the midwife tomorrow if you don’t feel reassured after talking things through, as this will give you a more definite answer as to what’s going on x

LadyPug · 29/10/2017 21:29

Hi daretodream nothing more to add, just thinking of you and hope you speak to your midwife tomorrow and get sent for a scan to find out what’s happening. Like others have said, it’s not always bad, rest is good. Take care of yourself and let us know how you are and how it goes tomorrow 💐

DareToDream89 · 30/10/2017 08:31

@rasberryandlime @LadyPug thank you both. I have spoken to my midwife this morning and I'm going to EPU @ 11am for walk in referrals. Should have a scan and see what's going on. Hardly slept a wink last night and now sitting at work thinking I just want it to be 11am. Will keep you updated xx

LadyPug · 30/10/2017 08:32

Good luck daretodream and glad you’re being seen so swiftly. Hang on in there, let us know how you get on, thinking of you

rasberryandlime · 30/10/2017 10:13

@DareToDream89 thinking of you, let us know how you get on x

Hannahf89 · 30/10/2017 11:48

@DareToDream89 good luck today!

After I'd been on here yesterday morning I had some red bleeding. Naturally freaked out and went to the epu in tears. They booked me a scan which I had this morning and everything is fine. So relieved, all I could think was the worst. The lady doing the scan said that bleeding is more and more common so fingers crossed everything is ok with you.

We're going to tell my parents this afternoon for additional emotional support - I've never cried so much and it's be nice to talk things through with my mum.

DareToDream89 · 30/10/2017 12:41

Hi everyone

Sadly it wasn't good news. There was no heartbeat.

I'm absolutely devastated, but have my DH and amazing family around me.

Good luck to the rest of you for the rest of your pregnancy.

Xx
