Hi, I'm new to the pregnancy board. I've just found out that I am pregnant with my 2nd (4 weeks today) and the NHS calculator says all being well I will be due around 12th May.

I couldn't see any threads for May yet - anyone just found out and want to join me?

DS has just turned 7 so I'm a bit rusty on this whole pregnancy thing!

Had first scan this morning 11+6 so one week out from midwife estimated which is not bad as I thought i was this anyway. Had its legs out stretched above its head relaxing away. Incredible experience and to think this last week i have been panicking so much. Good luck to everybody else having their scans!

LadyPug · 06/11/2017 15:59

Hooray fizzy big congrats!

DollyHobbit · 06/11/2017 16:10

Hello :) I had my first scan this morning (13w) and all is okay (hurrah) so I've joined mumsnet as it's my first child and I don't have much of a clue. Due 12 May, slightly terrifed.

Fizzysx · 06/11/2017 16:32

@LadyPug Thank you!

Hannahf89 · 06/11/2017 18:16

Congrats on the scans, very exciting!

I've been for my booking in appointment today - never had bloods taken before and I fainted! They couldn't get it out of either of my arms so had to use my hand. Think I panicked and then saw the tubes of blood. Wish I'd taken DH with me, he offered but I said there's no point. Does anyone know how often we need them taking throughout pregnancy?

BlueSky1980 · 06/11/2017 18:35

Congratulations @nats1017! I was so suprised at how amazing it was too. Enjoy that feeling! Smile

BlueSky1980 · 06/11/2017 18:40

@Hannahf89 oh no! Sorry you struggled so much. I don’t know, it seems to vary. I didn’t have any bloods taken at booking in appointment, but did at my dating scan (13 weeks).
The NHS website is pretty vauge suggesting it depends on various factors - it just says they’ll be done at various points throughou. I’d phone your midwife & ask her.

BlueSky1980 · 06/11/2017 18:42

Hi @DollyHobbit I’m in the same boat. Very much a wanted pregnancy (married in my late 30’s) but have NO idea what I’m doing & no idea how to look after a baby... Steep learning curve for me comes to mind! Smile

LadyPug · 06/11/2017 20:09

Hey Hannah I’m blood phobic too! If everything goes well and smoothly you’ll only have three lots of blood taken throughout the pregnancy I think (if you have the blood test for downs/Edwards/Patau etc which is optional but most people have them) bloods are at around 8 weeks (booking in), 12 week scan if having combined screening and about halfway through (I had bloods, whooping cough and anti d all in one go). It’s horrid I know but needs must!!!! Try to lie down next time and take Haribo to nibble on afterwards

nats1017 · 06/11/2017 21:03

Love that so many of us have had scans today! Congrats to everyone! @Dollyhobbit we are due date twins ☺️ My midwife set me out a schedule of appointments and that shows 3 lots of blood if you include the combined test for Downs etc. 2 down 1 to go! I’m so so with bloods. Don’t enjoy it but manage to cope! Very excited as we goon holiday to Florida on Thursday so pleased we get to enjoy it having had our scan and reached a milestone ☺️

Mayah · 06/11/2017 21:48

Awww I'm so happy and excited for everyone who's had their scans! This is probably the point where it starts to feel real. Have any of you planned how to announce your pregnancies, if you haven't already?

I have my booking scan next week at 11+6 weeks (according to calendar) so I hope my scan won't be too far after. How long between your bookings and scan apps?

LadyPug · 06/11/2017 22:37

Hey mayah for me it’s 5 weeks between booking in and scan but don’t think they allow it past 14 weeks at latest so for you should only be a couple of weeks!

Hannahf89 · 07/11/2017 16:51

@LadyPug All three in one day sounds hardcore! What is anti d? I never knew I had a blood phobia until yesterday - I've never fainted before in my life.

@Mayah I had my booking in yesterday at 10+6 and have my scan at 13+6. I have already had mine dated at an emergency scan so it's just for the screenings and another peek for me. I wish they'd call it the 14 week scan so it doesn't feel so late!

LadyPug · 07/11/2017 17:11

Hey hannah my midwife knows what I’m like hence all of the needles in one go! The anti d is awful but not everyone has to have it! It looks worse than it feels - you only need to have it if you’re rhesus negative blood type!

Toffee86 · 07/11/2017 20:31

Hi Ladies, Not checked on here in a while so I had alot of reading to do! Sending love and hugs to those who have experienced losses 💐

Congratulations to those of you who have had your first scan - how exciting! I’m truly pleased for you all!

I’m now 12+4 and have my scan on Friday. Like everyone else, I’m feeling nervous and I have my fingers crossed. Hopefully everything will be fine.

The first trimester has been a real whirlwind. From severe cramping, nausea, don’t eat that, do take that, give me blood for this, a constant need to pee, trousers that don’t fit anymore, going into hiding from all your friends and sheer, utter exhaustion to all of a sudden feeling human again in the last week ....it’s a bit of a roller coaster!

Anyone else find themselves doing things and almost forgetting they’re pregnant? I decided to clean the bathroom last night as it hasn’t been done properly in, let’s face it, 8 weeks (🙈) and I was spraying bleach everywhere for an hour!!!! What a numtpy!! Felt bad about it today but not too worried now.

Hope you are all having a lovely evening and putting your feet up 🙂 X

InRainbows · 08/11/2017 06:15

@toffee86 Good luck getting to scan date, I am 12+5 today so unless your date changes at the scan, our dates are aligned!

I'm in the hate bloods group as well! Streight after my scan I was sent to the bloods clinic because they forgot to do one of the checks from my booking in bloods! Threw me off because the usual bloods lady was lovely and the room had a bed but this was just a grim line of those terrifying looking chairs! Confused

Have all the needle phobics written off the epidural as a form of pain relief?

LadyPug · 08/11/2017 07:46

Hey -inrainbow I don’t think you can write anything off really. I’m the biggest needle phobe going and I ended up having an epidural after a 20 hour labour with no food as had zero energy left then needed a c section anyway. This time round looks like potential elc and I’ll have a spinal for that! Bricking it already but needs must!

InRainbows · 08/11/2017 08:41

Hi @ladypug What a labour story! 20hrs Shock puts needle fears into perspective when I guess at that point all you want is for baby to come out!

sewsewmum · 08/11/2017 09:15

@LadyPug I wanted to ask you about the anti-d injection as I’ve got to have it too. I’m not too bad with bloods and injections, but is it one of those where I’m going to feel rough afterwards? Our hospital is in a neighbouring town so need to figure out whether I can drive or should ask the other half to chauffeur me.

LadyPug · 08/11/2017 09:25

Hey sewsew no you won’t feel rough afterwards, if you’re not needle phobic you’ll be fine. I never look at the needle but stupidly took DH with me for support and when the needle came out he went JESUS!!! So I looked and I wished I hadn’t as it was like a pencil width! However it didn’t really hurt (whooping cough stung and I was bruised from bloods for over a week) but I felt fine!

sewsewmum · 08/11/2017 11:44

Thanks @LadyPug. The midwife said the anti-d and whooping cough injections are pretty nasty so I’ll have to remember to turn away. I’ve still got a bruise on my arm from the blood I surrendered last Friday.

Mayah · 08/11/2017 12:48

@Toffee86 your bathroom clean just made me laugh, I did the exact same thing a few days ago. I've been so exhausted these few weeks and I've gotten so lazy with the cleaning. So I decided to get down and bleach the bathrooms, only remembering halfway through - when the smell of bleach got a little overwhelming - that I was pregnant and probably wasn't the best thing to do Grin I also decided to finish off painting 1 wall we never got round to doing.. again, remembering half way through that I was pregnant.

I went out with a few friends yesterday afternoon, and one friend was talking about her SILs pregnancy and her experience so far. So many times I found myself about to agree with what she was saying and how I've felt the same way. But had to bite my tongue as no one actually knows yet Grin Has anyone else found themselves about to out themselves?

Hannahf89 · 09/11/2017 12:51

@LadyPug Really hoping I can avoid that needle then. Lol at your DH's reaction.

@Mayah I've been painting too. I read that water based paints are fine, but DH opens all the windows and makes me wear a mask anyway!

Have people been waiting until they get the results of their screening tests before telling people? DH is quite excited about telling everyone and thinks we should do it after our scan, but I'd prefer to get those results first. I feel like such a downer on his excitement!

Fizzysx · 09/11/2017 16:35

@Hannahf89 we told a few people before the scan but DH told everyone straight after scan.
When i had my scan on Monday the lady doing it said if your at high risk you will get a phone call within 72 hours. If lower risk you will get a letter through the post on next two weeks but said no news is good news.
Today got my next scan date through today for 2nd January exciting but I bet the next 8 weeks are going to drag!

BlueSky1980 · 09/11/2017 18:40

We’ve been doing LOADS of painting (hurridly doing 3 years of unfinished DIY in 6 months!) I’m planning on doing the kitchen (with mold resistant bathroom paint) at the weekend... I will try to minimise fume / chemical exposure by opening all the windows & wearing gloves / improvise with an eye mask as a face mask! Hopefully that should be ok... We have so much to do before 1st May (& our cottage is only tiny!)
