Hi, I'm new to the pregnancy board. I've just found out that I am pregnant with my 2nd (4 weeks today) and the NHS calculator says all being well I will be due around 12th May.

I couldn't see any threads for May yet - anyone just found out and want to join me?

DS has just turned 7 so I'm a bit rusty on this whole pregnancy thing!

@BlueSky1980 I'm glad it's not just me! Before reading your comment, I Googled and read that petite people often show sooner and that matches what you've said - although I'm not sure what my excuse is as I'm 5ft9 ! Blush

Hey JC I think it’s right to have the flu jab. Worst case scenario is that some ppl say it only has a 45-65% chance of protecting from the flu but the flu is pretty bad and can be awful to baby so any protection is better than nothing! I’ve got mine booked for 16 week midwife appointment

Hannahf89 · 22/10/2017 10:52

@JC30 that's good that you got your scan booked in there and then. I might ring the hospital and check that they definitely got the referral from my drs...my drs have been pretty hopeless with everything so far!

I had my flu jab yesterday. I asked the midwife and she said to get it as soon as possible so I had it done in a Boots pharmacy...there was a 4 week wait at my drs!

BlueSky1980 · 22/10/2017 17:12

@JC30 I got my flu jab a couple of weeks ago as GP had a ‘walk-in’ day for people who were eligible for free jab.. I just took my pack from my booking in appointment with my midwife notes & they did it. I didn’t want to risk not doing it based on medical recommendations.

@Hannahf89 I’d ring your midwife team direct if you can (rather than your GP) & chase up your booking in appointment, if they are anything like the midwife team here, they’ll be super helpful & won’t mind a call, so good luck.
My scan was booked there and then at my booking in appointment too, so I would not panic too much. Fingers crossed you get it sorted soon.

seizethecuttlefish · 22/10/2017 20:24

Hi all. Due on 8th May and have my scan on Tuesday. I've had a few early scans, due to bleeding and have seen a healthy little bean with a good strong heartbeat.
This is my second. I had a terrible pregnancy with ds and this one is gearing up to follow the same path. On meds for excessive sickness and been off work for a couple of weeks. If I'm honest, no sign of me going back tomorrow. I really envy all of you that are exercising. Hoping that once I get this sickness under control I can get back to at least walking.
Thinking of booking a private scan so my 4.5yr old can bond with his baby brother or sister. Though he is insistent that it's a boy called Jim.

Kit17 · 23/10/2017 08:43

Have anyone else's boobs not grown at all? I've just been reading my 'Week 10' email and it says they will 'definitely be much bigger' but I'm sure mine haven't grown! Shock

Hannahf89 · 23/10/2017 08:53

@Bluesky1980 Yeah I'm going to contact the midwives at the hospital today. Just have to wait for a moment when I can make the call without anybody hearing me at work!

@seizethecuttlefish a boy called Jim Grin The private scan sounds like a good idea. When we had our early reassurance scan there were lots of women further on who had other children with them.

Has everyone decided if they're going to find out what they're having? We were certain that we would but now I'm liking the idea of a surprise.

@Kit17 boobs have definitely grown, wish they hadn't! I'd count yourself lucky for now...

LadyPug · 23/10/2017 10:16

Hey Kit boobs not grown one iota here! Last time they went massive. All I can think is that breastfeeding dd permanently deflated them! Ha!

sewsewmum · 23/10/2017 12:31

Hi all, how’s everyone doing?

Is anyone else feeling really emotionally fragile at the moment? I’m ten weeks now and I know week nine is notoriously tough with all the hormones rushing round but I’m struggling to pick myself back up. Is it just me?

Also, I am permanent hungry. Really finding it tough to know whether I should be stuffing my face or putting it down to thirst or boredom.

Maybe this is all a derivative of hanger. I’m hemotional!

nats1017 · 23/10/2017 13:23

Hey everyone, hope all is going well! I’m 11 weeks now and my main symptom is constant tiredness. I’ve had it for 4-5 weeks now and it’s just not getting any better. So really struggling with work! Hoping it’s going to disappear soon!

Gyoza · 23/10/2017 13:35

I had my flu jab nearly 2 weeks ago, no adverse reactions and glad I did as someone at work is now off six with the flu. Is it a good idea for partners to get it too? My husband picks up everything that’s going around and I saw that it’s only about £12 to get it done at boots so thinking it might be a good idea

Sarahpall · 23/10/2017 13:58

Sewsewmum
Iv been very emotionally up an down for the last 3-4 weeks (now 13 wks) usually tearfully and snappy.
I'm sure it will settle.

Hopefully your partner is supportive to get you through this period.

Hannahf89 · 23/10/2017 16:37

Another nightmare experienced with my drs! The reason I haven't been contacted for my booking in appointment is because the drs forgot to do my referral...2 weeks ago! Luckily the midwives I spoke to were really nice and said they should be able to rush me through the system when they receive it. I have to go out of my way to go to my drs to sign the referral today. So annoyed!

sewsewmum · 23/10/2017 17:09

Thanks @Sarahpall - that’s reassuring to know Smile

The other half is great, if a little lost as to where it’s all coming from hahaha!

BlueSky1980 · 23/10/2017 17:49

@Hannahf89 oh no! That is so annoying! Frustrating that you have to go via GP.. Here we just went direct to midwife to book the first appointment - no referral needed. Although on the plus side you’ll just have less time between booking in & scan!

@sewsewmum I’m 100% with you on the permanent hunger... currently eating constantly. It’s so hard not to over-eat. Really making an effort with preparing healthy snacks, but some days I just stuff my face with anything & everything.

I just had my dating scan! All was great. The bean seems good & did not stop wriggling, kicking, waving & flipping over - the ultrasound guy was laughing so much. Got great pics & it now seems real. I think I’m still in shock (despite it being very much a planned baby!)

Due date 01/05/18!!
13 weeks old tomorrow!

Sit tight ladies & hope all of you feeling tired & ill start feeling better soon.

LadyPug · 23/10/2017 17:55

Yay Bluesky congrats!!! So glad it’s finally official for someone. It gives me hope!

Hannahf89 · 23/10/2017 18:25

Congratulations @BlueSky1980 That's great news! Are you going to start telling people now if you haven't already?

BlueSky1980 · 23/10/2017 18:46

Thanks everyone!
Yes @Hannahf89 telling most friends family now. Waiting until the weekend to tell the in laws as a suprise for the FIL birthday (he’s going to have loads of little presents in decreasing sized boxes with final one being scan photo & a ‘happy birthday grandad’ card)! Grin

MilfordFound · 23/10/2017 19:17

Had my dating scan today. The sonographer was a miserable woman. She scanned me in silence with the screen turned away. After AGES and she still hadn't said a single word I asked my partner if he could see, and he said yes, so I asked if the baby was moving and he hesitated, so the sonographer finally spoke and said baby was moving.
I lay there for another 5-10 minutes while she clicked and did measurements. Then she turned the screen round, briefly showed me the baby, printed a photo and that was it. I saw the baby for about 20 seconds at the most.
I'm very relieved everything was fine, but she was dreadful!
Due date moved slightly again, I'm due on the 7th may.
I'm going to order some comfy maternity trousers tonight. I was weighed and I've put on 12 lbs! Yikes. That'll be the constant eating due to sickness and heartburn.
Bluesky1980 glad your scan went well. It feels real now doesn't it!

Gaeilge · 23/10/2017 19:18

Hi everyone,

I was on the June thread but apparently I'm due end May I'm expecting twins anyone else?

Hannahf89 · 23/10/2017 19:32

@BlueSky1980 Awwwww, that's a great idea. Will they be surprised? I don't think my parents have a clue at the moment and I'm really close to them. I've nearly blurted it out accidentally a few times.

@MilfordFound oh no - they shouldn't be allowed to be miserable in a job like that! At least everything is well with the baby - congratulations! I'd have been so scared with the silence.

BlueSky1980 · 23/10/2017 19:46

@MilfordFound - sorry you had such a rubbish scan experience, that sounds not nice at all. At least all seems ok though & you can relax a little.

@Hannaf89 - yes they will be VERY suprised (but I suspect over the moon!) Despite being in our mid / late 30’s, we have never previously known if we wanted to have children - we kept the decision to start ‘trying’ a complete secret so everyone has been shocked!
I bet you really can’t wait to tell your parents. It is all very exciting! Smile

@Gaeilge - Twins!! That’s amazing. I am a twin & it is absolutely brilliant being a twin (I secretly quite wanted to have twins myself).
Congratulations! How are you feeling about it?

sewsewmum · 23/10/2017 21:57

@BlueSky1980 I have never known anything like it! And half the challenge is trying to figure out what you can eat that isn’t going to make you feel bloated or nauseous. Clearly chocolate never has that effect!

So sorry to hear about people’s bad experiences (@MilfordFound that sounds awful!) but also excited to hear about people having good first scans and TWINS!! I’ve got my scan next Friday and I can’t wait. Not telling people is getting very tedious.

LadyPug · 23/10/2017 22:17

Guys, my scan is 3 weeks away and I’m worried sick about potential mmc plus the whole drama of a party I’m at in 2 weeks (can’t get out of) and I’m seriously showing already, I have no hope of hiding it for another full 2 weeks! But is it silly to get a private scan at 11+5 when my real scan is at 13 + 0? Private scans here cost £60 so not cheap but I’m worried sick and can’t hide it like this for much longer! What would you guys do?

nats1017 · 23/10/2017 22:24

@ladypug I got an early scan at 9 weeks which cost me £80 purely to our mind at rest and know that things were real as this is my first! I couldn’t recommend it enough, it made me feel so much better and I can’t wait for my next one already even though it’s only been 2 weeks! Put it this way i can’t seeing tou would regret it... and it’s absolutely worth seeing baby as much as possible to enjoy the pregnancy! :) x
