Hi, I'm new to the pregnancy board. I've just found out that I am pregnant with my 2nd (4 weeks today) and the NHS calculator says all being well I will be due around 12th May.

I couldn't see any threads for May yet - anyone just found out and want to join me?

DS has just turned 7 so I'm a bit rusty on this whole pregnancy thing!

@KalaLala really sorry to hear that Flowers

AlexsMum89 · 26/09/2017 11:55

I'm so sorry @KalaLala Flowers

I had a scan at the EPU a couple of weeks ago. She put me at 5+5 (+/- 5 days) and she did an abdominal scan, you could see everything fine. She said she tries abdominal first and only does in internal if she can't see properly. I was really glad to be honest, I'd steeled myself for the dildo cam but the less invasive procedures I have the better really!

Can I ask everyone else about how they got their pregnancy put on record. I'm having a nightmare with my drs - this is the 3rd time I've spoken to them and they've told me something different each time.

First they said I should contact the midwives at the hospital, did that who said I'd need a referral. Contacted the drs who said they'd do me a referral. I never heard from them. Contacted them again and they said that I need to go to a community midwife. Rang them and they said my GP has to confirm pregnancy first.

Not sure what to do! So confused. I thought I'd go to my GP but they seem to think that's the wrong thing to do even though NHS says otherwise.

Bunnyfluffy · 26/09/2017 15:46

Hannah I'm having similar issues with my GP practice. Hopefully a midwife is phoning me this week to confirm the process. But I've spoken to the receptionists several times and been told different things.

Hannahf89 · 26/09/2017 17:15

Glad I'm not the only one @Bunnyfluffy hopefully you'll be sorted this week then.

I booked a drs appointment last week but I couldn't get in until 7th October. I'll be 7+3 then. Think I'm going to wait for that and arrange an appointment with the external midwives at the end of that week - they were really nice on the phone and will let me book in advance. We then have our reassurance scan on the 15th - as that cost money it was a lot easier to arrange! Will be a busy week for me but I don't think I could bear talking to the reception again!

lottiec1 · 26/09/2017 17:39

@Hannahf89 I phoned the GP who gave me the number to ring midwife directly and was sent an appointment out within a couple of days. Got my first appointment tomorrow so quite nervous. Not sure if they will scan or anything. I'm 6+5. Doctors weren't remotely interested in seeing me xx

McTootBlowsOnHisBagpipe · 26/09/2017 18:27

I was able to complete an online referral form and then the midwives contacted me and I have my booking appointment next week when I'll be 9 weeks.
However, I only discovered there was an online referral form after the epu told me.

MummyOf1Boy · 26/09/2017 18:54

Ill be 5+5 Alexsmum89 when i have my scan at EPU on Thursday so fingers crossed they can see with just an abdominal scan xx

Hannahf89 · 26/09/2017 20:54

@lottiec1 I don't think the GP has any interest in seeing me either! As the midwife won't see me until the GP has, I'm just going to turn up and get them to acknowledge that I'm pregnant. Can't believe it will be 7+ weeks by the time I see anybody - it's a good job we have the internet so we know about vitamins, diet etc. Good luck with your appointment, let us know how it goes!

Mummy2018 · 26/09/2017 21:16

Took me a nearly 2 weeks to get referred to the midwife. I phoned up and got told I need to make an appointment with the nurse, this was booked for nearly a week later but it got cancelled the day before then when I phoned to reschedule the receptionist said I had to call back 8am the next morning, I did so only to be told I didn't need to book an appointment. All I needed to do was collect a urine sample and bring into them.

The doctor called the next evening and confirmed the test was positive :) I then had to go to the doctors and fill in a self referral form which they then sent to the midwife. By this point I was now 7wks.

Midwife was quick at contacting me, I gave the form back on Friday morning and received a letter with my appointment date on the Tuesday. Got my appointment this Thursday, so I will be 8+6 before being seen by anyone. You sure right good job we have the internet to find out what we should and shouldn't be doing, eating etc and vitamins to take.

Doctors just really don't seem to be in a hurry! Hope all gets sorted for you soon... So much hassle. I have read that you can contact the midwife directly but some places say you have to go through your doctors as they need to confirm it like mine did, it all depends where you live.

Kit17 · 26/09/2017 22:01

I'm not seeing anyone until 10 weeks! The dr told me I could go in any time between 8 & 12 weeks for my booking in, so I booked it for the school holiday!

MummyOf1Boy · 26/09/2017 22:27

My experience with seeing a midwife has been so different and easy compared to everyone else.

I phoned the doctor on the Monday and they gave me the number for the community midwife. Phoned the community midwife and she booked me an appt for the same week to see a midwife.

Went to that appt and the midwife booked me in for a early scan there and then for 2 weeks after when i will be close to 6 weeks - that scan is this Thursday.

And the day after my early midwife appointment i got a call of my own midwife to see me this Sunday when ill be 6+1.

Not sure if that will be it until my 12 week scan but so far everything has been all go and no problems at all seeing anyone.

Although no one has actually checked if im pregnant by doing a test, good job ive done plenty to make sure i am lol

Hope all you ladies get sorted and see a midwife soon xxx

Mummy2018 · 27/09/2017 00:45

@Kit17
That's a long time to go without seeing anyone but least you have an appointment date and at a convenient date.

@Mummyof1Boy
Wish mine was as easy as that - although compared to some peoples experiences mine was pretty simple once I had the right information. I'm hoping as the midwife was quick to contact me, things will start moving quickly now. I'm hoping my midwife will book my scan in soon - really need the reassurance that everything is okay. Does anyone know if they book it at your first appointment?

Mummy2018 · 27/09/2017 00:53

Im curious, Is anyone else like this? Or is it just be me being odd but I keep doing pregnancy tests each week to check I'm still pregnant - its just so unbelievable. And each week the line is getting darker and darker, last few weeks the line has showed instantly and been darker then the control line. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Kit17 · 27/09/2017 06:20

@Mummy2018 I didn't even think about it - I just phoned the Dr and they said between 8 & 12 weeks so I assumed that was normal (it's my first)! Seeing everyone's comments on here, evidently it's not! Shock Ah well, I'm not stressed about it, so it's fine with me 🙂

lampert · 27/09/2017 06:24

@Mummy2018 I wish I was as disciplined as to do them only once a week! I am doing them daily Blush I know it's stupid and I know it's pointless but I just can't help myself!!! I'm so glad for internet cheapies or I might have bankrupted myself by now! Or perhaps I'd just have got a grip and wouldn't be doing them at all!

Milog1508 · 27/09/2017 06:51

Hi all am 5 +5 today with my first child hopefully (after 11 unsuccessful attempts) this time I feel shocking and my symptoms are so much worse hoping that's a good sign. Due date 25.05.18. Had midwife app yesterday and have first scan on 13th Oct. How do you all stop being paranoid at every twinge ache feeling you get (or not get) going to go bankrupt with the price of pregnancy tests
