Hi, I'm new to the pregnancy board. I've just found out that I am pregnant with my 2nd (4 weeks today) and the NHS calculator says all being well I will be due around 12th May.

I couldn't see any threads for May yet - anyone just found out and want to join me?

DS has just turned 7 so I'm a bit rusty on this whole pregnancy thing!

@Bunnyfluffy mine was £89 so not cheap. I found some places that did them cheaper if you can wait until 7+ weeks, but they will only do an abdominal scan so if it's too early to see the heartbeat that way you don't have the option to an internal one.

After yesterday the best advice I can give is wait as long as you are able to, I think there will be less uncertainty that way, it was brilliant to see the heartbeat but I think a feel less reassured than before due to the dating issue.

Worth looking online at the options in your area and then seeing how long you can waits

rasberryandlime · 17/09/2017 17:33

Ps I feel totally the same as you....at the moment by emotions are alternating between 'omg' and 'worried sick' xx

LadyPug · 17/09/2017 17:37

Hey raspberry this is why pregnancy is dated from first day of last period, do you know when that is? Sperm can live in body for 7 days and your exact ovulation date won't be known. The only way to find out is to wait for dating scan I imagine as I guess 12 weeks is when they can estimate, before then it's too early. Be reassured that there is a baby there but that all the dates might not add up until 12 week scan

LadyPug · 17/09/2017 17:38

Hey bunny totally normal to feel this way, it's a massive life change and it's only just sinking in!

rasberryandlime · 17/09/2017 17:47

Hi @LadyPug

The date of my last period was 28th July.

So yesterday according to the NHS calculator I would have been 7w1d, however I expected to be a couple of days behind this due to slightly longer cycles.

I think I conceived on or around 14th August

I started getting positive pregnancy tests from 23rd August (did 2 on that evening) , which would be 9 days after this and the earliest I think it is possible.

At the scan yesterday they said I was 5w6d, but that their calculations add 2 weeks on the age of the fetus due to pregnancy been calculated from the day of your last period, so the fetal age is 3w6d, which means I would have conceived on or around 20th August.

This is impossible as I had a positive test just 3 days after this , and didn't have sex after 14th August :( :(

LadyPug · 17/09/2017 17:50

Honestly Raspberry I know it's easy for me to say but don't stress, I'm sure this early the gear isn't sophisticated enough to know, you can get a clearer picture at your 12 week scan. Please don't worry, there's a heartbeat which is great news :-)

MilfordFound · 17/09/2017 19:02

@bunnyfluffy I had a private scan on Thursday, £29 special offer.
The place I went to do them from 6 weeks, I thought I was 6w2d but was actually 5w6d according to measurements. Scan on the tummy too, didn't have to have internal. Oh and it's totally normal to worry and freak out!

@raspberryandlime Those dates are a bit fiddly aren't they. But the human body is a wonderful and cantankerous thing, if it always behaved the way it should then the world would be a simpler place. Maybe a lot of last minute or early doors things happened at once to fudge the dates, who knows. But right now you are pregnant, with a baby with a beating heart.

In my last pregnancy I found I had to surrender the power completely. Either I was going to end up with a baby or I wasn't and nothing I did at that time was going to affect the outcome. It's too early for you to have any influence on the outcome. There will be an outcome, hopefully a happy one, right now that outcome is out of reach and all you can do is take each day as it comes. It's really really hard to stay positive so be kind to yourself Flowers

Doublechocolatetiffin · 17/09/2017 20:34

Hi everyone, I thought I'd join this thread too, I hadn't realised there was another one, I'm on the one in the antenatal board. There is a Facebook group too, if anyone wants to join then let me know and I'll tell you how to sign up (it's secret so no one else can see it but it means someone will have to add you).

I'm 6+1 and very nervous. Waiting for an early scan on the 25th.

scoutcat · 17/09/2017 21:10

Welcome @Doublechocolatetiffin! It seems a lot of people are having early scans, are they really good/worth it? I'm considering it but I don't know if I should or not.

Xjo1992x · 17/09/2017 21:26

Hi @doublechocolatetiffin ! I'm on the other board too.
Are you able to tell me how to join the FB page? I did ask on the other board but no-one replied
Xx

lottiec1 · 17/09/2017 21:42

Hi girls.. newbie here!! I'm 5+2, due the 18th may based on last period!! Not told anybody yet apart from OH so very reassuring to find this thread!!

Boobs have grown about 2 sizes and hurt if anyone even so much as looks in their direction! That was the big give away to do a test!! Nausea isn't so bad yet but feeling very nervous, been having loads of period like cramps but no bleeding so I know it can't be too much to worry about. Anybody else having cramping or experienced it in other pregnancies? Any ideas how to approach the not drinking lies...avoiding all people until we tell them seems most likely as I'm rarely seen without a gin at weekends 😂🙈Xx

scoutcat · 17/09/2017 21:53

@lottiec1 Welcome! I'm new here too. I was meant to go out this weekend but we had to pull the old "sickness bug" excuse. Luckily it stuck because I'm a teacher so do often get poorly. Next weekend we have a 30th in Manchester so not sure what mystery illness I will have to develop by then. 😂 Also not sure whether to cancel a hen do to Dublin in October or not ☹️

I'm also having period like cramps, but no blood so I'm taking it as a positive sign. So long as my boobs keep hurting I'll be fine!

InRainbows · 18/09/2017 05:55

The not drinking thing is such a difficult one to cover up, I had to throw a shot of lemonchello on the grass the other day when a friend's mum was adamant that I would have one! I didn't drink for a couple of months while TTC but I even got s* for that so telling people you are TTC is not the best plan! Good luck with your excuses Ladies!

On the subject of cramping, yes! I have it all the time, I also get sore twinges if I stretch. Feels so strange to be getting cramps so early on but completely normal by the sounds of things!

Xjo1992x · 18/09/2017 06:51

Hi @lottiec1 we are due date buddies :)
I've been telling everyone that I am doing a "dry september" seems to have worked! My mum poured me a glass of cider last night and she took that excuse without any questions.
Always good if you drive to anything, that way you're the designated driver and can't drink!
Xx

Doublechocolatetiffin · 18/09/2017 06:57

@xjo1992x if you send me a pm with your email address I think I can add you to the group it seems to give me that option.

@scout I've got an early scan on the NHS because I had a missed miscarriage last time. I havent had one before, but after that I wanted to see how everything was getting on! I think it's down to the person as to whether it's worth it or not. They are expensive, but can be reassuring (for about a day 😂) if you're worried.

lulupregnant2 · 18/09/2017 07:21

@Doublechocolatetiffin please can you add me to the secret Facebook group. My
Email is [email protected] :-) Thankyou xx

LadyPug · 18/09/2017 08:30

Oh Jesus, I'm 5 weeks today and I've got a bump! I usually wear smart dresses for work that aren't really baggy but stretchy jersey type material. DH just said omg you can't wear that! I look massive!!! Bloating I hope!!!

Yorkie17 · 18/09/2017 08:40

@lottiec1 @xjo1992x snap 18th May!
I'' trying to just get on like normal atm, I live in JErsey so a private scan could set me back about £150!

Doublechocolatetiffin · 18/09/2017 09:08

@lulu I've sent you an invitation - hopefully you'll get it.

@ladypug definitely bloat at this stage, although I look about 6 months pregnant right now Shock

readysetcake · 18/09/2017 09:32

@ladypug snap 5 weeks and I have massive bloat. My jeans are so tight already!

My SIL guessed on Saturday as I wasn't drinking (even though I said I was driving) and that I said I was cold. She just came out with your pregnant. Last time I was living in Oz so was super easy to keep it from family and friends here.

LadyPug · 18/09/2017 09:58

Yes so much harder, I'm just hoping ppl think I've put on a bit of podge! Haha

1987Laura · 18/09/2017 10:04

Haha im massive anyway so i have no problems with hiding it!

Xjo1992x · 18/09/2017 10:13

@doublechocolatetiffin my email is [email protected]

I'm glad I'm not the only that looks huge! Have had to start using a hair band looped through the buttonhole to do up my jeans! Baggy jumpers for the next few weeks!

Doublechocolatetiffin · 18/09/2017 12:35

Xjo1992x fingers crossed I've added you too - let me know if it doesn't work.

I'm so much bigger than I've ever been. At least I've already had to start buying loose fitting tops to cover the podge. So the massive bloating on top of that should be covered. I had someone ask me a few months back when my baby was due - I wasn't pregnant at the time (trying desperately though)!

Xjo1992x · 18/09/2017 12:40

@doublechocolatetiffin nope! Nothing has come through yet. Maybe it needs to be approved my an administrator?
