Hi, I'm new to the pregnancy board. I've just found out that I am pregnant with my 2nd (4 weeks today) and the NHS calculator says all being well I will be due around 12th May.

I couldn't see any threads for May yet - anyone just found out and want to join me?

DS has just turned 7 so I'm a bit rusty on this whole pregnancy thing!

I would say to just eat something, even if it's a few grapes or a biscuit! I've found as soon as I've eaten my sickness goes for a bit.

This is my bump this morning, my husband joked there must be 4 in their last night 😩😱

Wow! How far are you emily

emilyjayne1990 · 17/09/2017 09:32

@LadyPug I'm only 6+5! This is my 2nd pregnancy though x

LadyPug · 17/09/2017 10:32

Wow! My second pregnancy too and I'm 4 + 6 so this could happen to me! I'm only just over 5 foot so will show pretty quickly, how are we going to hide it?!

emilyjayne1990 · 17/09/2017 10:45

I'm the same! I'm planning on big jumpers, which are my favourite thing anyway! We wanted to keep it quiet until December and announce it when we're in Disney but I don't think we can wait that long!

LadyPug · 17/09/2017 10:54

Ah wow, Disney is a cool place to announce it!

Cathster · 17/09/2017 12:46

Hi everyone mind if I join? Just found out that I'm pregnant with my second, now 6w+2 and the tiredness and nausea has just hit with a vengeance!

emily my belly looks similar to yours to be honest and like you it's my second! I'm dreading trying to cover it up at work Confused

scoutcat · 17/09/2017 13:00

When are people going to tell work? I'm 4 weeks and a teacher so not sure when to tell my headteacher! Confused I feel like I'm really overthinking everything.

Hill1991 · 17/09/2017 13:33

My boss already knows about my pregnancy, I'm 6weeks but the only reason I let them know is that I've suffered really bad morning sickness and she was starting to get worried about my health so I had to tell her but other wise it's up to you if your suffering from morning sickness and other symptoms I would let them know and they may be a bit more understanding if you need to have some time off, yea I'm going to try the grapes as I can't stand the smell of biscuits

Yorkie17 · 17/09/2017 13:34

Anyone have any tips on how to hide the pregnancy @ my wedding in 2 weeks??!
The drinking I'm sure I will be able to do I'm just soooooi worried about being sick! TIA xx

emilyjayne1990 · 17/09/2017 13:38

I know, Disney would have been really magical especially because we'll have a gender scan just before we go! I guess we can just announce the gender there instead!

Glad to hear I'm not the only one with a bump already!

As for work I'm self employed so I've just got to take it as it comes! No maternity pay for me!

LadyPug · 17/09/2017 13:42

emilyjayne self employed can still get maternity allowance I think, it's just a different scheme. I'm also self employed but limited company so think I get maternity pay.

Hill1991 · 17/09/2017 13:46

Yorkie17 I have no real advice on hiding the sickness but you could always put it down to nerves my best advice and either drink no alcoholic wine or beer or just tell people your not drinking, hope all goes well for you and congrats on the wedding and baby

emilyjayne1990 · 17/09/2017 14:05

@LadyPug I looked into it last time, to be entitled I have to shut my business down for 6 months and get about £100 a week!
I'm hoping this time it'll be easier to get back to work sooner as my husbands on 4 on 4 off shifts so I'm planning on working the days he's off.

InRainbows · 17/09/2017 14:09

Wow @emilyjayne what a cute little bump! Do you have twins in your half or your partner's half of the family?

@yorkie17 I agree with going down the sick with nerves angle! I think the adrenaline of the wedding might take the edge off sickness though, my wedding shoes feel excruciating now and I didn't notice at all on the day!

LadyPug · 17/09/2017 14:24

Oh wow! That's no good I guess although this time that's exactly what I'm doing. I worked through last time without time off and this time I'm taking time off and opting to be poor!

1987Laura · 17/09/2017 14:34

Scoutcat i told my work the day i found out as i only got the job the day before! Wanted to check if they still wanted me lol thank god they did. I just might not qualify for maternity pay. I am 7+2

emilyjayne1990 · 17/09/2017 14:47

@InRainbows my mums side has twins, I've had this funny feeling about twins for a while. I guess we'll see a week on Tuesday!

@LadyPug I'm literally going to take it as it comes, planning on at least 4 weeks off after the birth but it'll depend on what kinda birth plan I'll have this time. They might want to give me a c section so I'll have to see what happens.

LadyPug · 17/09/2017 14:49

emily playing by ear sounds good, I had c section last time and had to go back to work early, long story but really regret it so taking some real time off second time round!

emilyjayne1990 · 17/09/2017 15:29

@LadyPug there's so many things I regret from the first time! I definitely plan to take it easy for the first week this time and limit the first week visitors to just our parents this time!

rasberryandlime · 17/09/2017 15:32

Good to hear how everyone is getting on. I am very confused, after having a private early scan yesterday, which I had for reassurance as just don't 'feel' pregnant or have any symptoms (apart from the repeated home tests I have completed!!)

Anyway going by the date of my last period, I thought I would be 7w1d yesterday, however I do have 31 day cycles, so thought in reality I would be closer to 6w5d/6w6d.

They started with an abdominal scan but didn't see anything, so then tried an internal one, and heard the baby's heartbeat, which was amazing. The lady said everything looked normal, but that I was just much earlier than expected, and that I was measuring 5w6d. Now this has got me really worried, the dates I was working too could be a day or so out I guess but not this much. In the main, if this was correct I would have had a positive pregnancy test 3 days after conceiving, which the clinic (and everything I have read) said is impossible. My husband was also away the week after I think I conceived, again making the dates they gave me impossible.

Has anyone had this happen? Was amazing to hear the heartbeat but can't help feeling anxious that baby is so small? The clinic didn't help much, and kept insisting that I had got my dates wrong and was just earlier than expected and that everything looks fine, which was really frustrating as I know either the date they have given is wrong or something is not right with the baby.

Anyone have any similar experiences or can offer any advice? Now worried sick :(

MilfordFound · 17/09/2017 15:47

@raspberryandlime I can understand why you're worried.
I'd take comfort in the fact that there's a heartbeat, that's the biggest hurdle jumped already. I think in your situation I'd be booking another scan for a week or two later. If the pregnancy has progressed a week or two as expected then I'd assume there was some wizardry with the dates. And if not, well cross that bridge if you come to it.
I read that sperm can survive in your body for up to 5 days, swimming up to meet the egg. So even if your husband was away maybe the swimmers were already there?
I hope you have a positive outcome, I can understand your worries, I'd be the same. Have you got an EPU near you? Can you self refer for another early scan?

annemie · 17/09/2017 16:48

scoutcat We're going to tell work early November, when the first Trimester is over. We work for the same company so this will be an interesting conversation ... :P

Has anyone had their first midwife appointment yet? Mine is scheduled for early October. However, I am a little confused. From what I've read the initial meeting lasts about an hour but in my letter it says the appointment is only 20 minutes. It also says there will be a follow up appointment at home. Does this mean the initial appointment is split in two?

rasberryandlime · 17/09/2017 16:53

Thanks @MilfordFound

Yes I guess the dates could be out by a bit, it's more the date of my positive pregnancy test that it worrying me, as I know there is no way it would have been positive 3 days after the date the scan said I would have conceived (I had two positive test on the Wednesday after the scan said I should have got pregnant on Sunday). I also had clear blue digitals that increased every week and said 3+ when I thought I was 5 weeks (2 weeks ago) so everything suggests my dates are near enough.....apart from the scan :(

An upset that they totally dismissed my concerns, even when I asked if baby could have stopped growing they just said 'no, all looks fine, loads of people get their dates mixed up, by the 12 week scan it may be different'

I can't self refer to our EPU here, im going to try calling gp tomorrow and see if they will refer me, if not I will book another private scan for next weekend I think. Not ideal due to £ but no way I can wait until 12 weeks to find out.

Bunnyfluffy · 17/09/2017 17:27

How much do the private scans cost?
Not sure I can last until 12 weeks!

I'm feeling really anxious today, in a "what have we done?!" kind of way. This baby was very much planned ....but I'm freaking out. I keep worrying about what if there's something wrong with the baby / what if I get sick or injured and can't look after it ... is it normal to feel this way?!
