22 weeks on Thursday and the nursery is complete!!

All decorated, cotbed the lot everything in place - can now look at resting in the final weeks instead of rushing around decorating!

Suzi763 · 12/09/2017 15:16

Good wishes for you. In my pregnancy, I didn't face any back pain. I just received it as surprise. Even I didn't get any vomiting or morning sickness. I thought as I was not pregnant for the two months. When I checked up to gynaecologist and she gave me good news, I was just"Am I really?". She was so astonishing on my expression and asked are you not expecting it? It was really amazing for me. I was just at 27 at that time. I reassured and test it again. First test was very faint positive line. I tested again after two weeks of first one. It was clearly showing about my pregnancy. I didn't get too much wait during 9 month. It was just an increase of 8kg. But my baby was healthy with 3.6kg.

mrsjkerry · 12/09/2017 15:19

@Victoriaaaaaaaa you are way more organised than me!!! 32 weeks and the nursery is not touched at all!!

would you buy a secondhand sleepyhead?

mrsjkerry · 12/09/2017 15:50

Totally up to you. I haven't got anything second hand. My friend on the other hand refused to buy anything new!!

Hello, I was wondering if I could get some advice. I think I'm pregnant, I went to see my GP today and she is currently in the process of referring me for a scan. I'm almost 100% sure I'm pregnant though. I'm 19 and currently living with my fiance and his parents. I am unemployed but my fiance is just about to get a promotion with a pay rise. I am not sure how much having a baby will cost or if there's any benefits I can claim. Can someone please enlighten me?
Thanks
Emily

Victoriaaaaaaaa · 12/09/2017 16:46

@emilyvictoria19 have you taken a pregnancy test?

emilyvictoria19 · 12/09/2017 17:02

@Victoriaaaaaaaa Yes, I have taken two and they look positive but lines are quite faint.

Pranpreeya157D · 12/09/2017 18:05

Hello there
I'm gonna be a new mama, just hit my 27th week, so scare + worries + emotional + weak.... arggg the joy of pregnancy

Missonhartbaby · 12/09/2017 18:31

@victoriaaaa wow that is organised! I'm 35 weeks today and have just started my nursery! As for a second sleepy head, I would buy a second hand one personally as they are so expensive and as long as it's in good condition eg no rips etc and you give it a good clean it should be fine :)

Welcome @Pranpreeya157D and @emilyvictoria19 :)
Emily you should be entitled to maternity allowance (140 a week) from the government, I got made redundant so that what I can claim too. And then you get child benefits (140 a month I believe) and then child tax credits which can vary depending on your circumstances after little one is born :)

mrsjkerry · 12/09/2017 20:40

Does anyone else feel like they've been punched in the vagina? I can't describe the pain as either inside or out, just feels bruised.

Haha...amazed at the level of organisation on this thread! I'm 32 weeks and yet to get a date for exchange/ completion on my house!

Saying that, don't feel like I'll need to rest much as I'm still full of beans: just as well really, no doubt we'll be decorating the nursery literally days before due date!

Alulu123 · 12/09/2017 20:56

@Missonhartbaby @Victoriaaaaaaaa don't they say that to decrease the SIDS risk, anything the baby sleeps on should be brand new? I know that's the case for mattresses so it would make sense that it also refers to Sleepyheads?

ew1990 · 12/09/2017 21:01

@Victoriaaaaaaaa you wanna come my house and do mine? It still needs plastering @mrsjkerry I was just saying today that I felt dead achy down there - only way I can describe it x

Missonhartbaby · 12/09/2017 21:21

@Alulu123 that's true actually... It's odd though because they don't really say why it's so important to have a new mattress but that there was a distinct correlation between old mattresses and SIDS so I guess it would be better to buy everything like that brand new to be careful. I personally wouldn't buy a sleepy head, I'm going for moses basket instead but @Victoriaaaaaaaa maybe you should get a new one to be on the safe side!

ScotsLamb · 13/09/2017 07:29

I have a second hand Sleepyhead and I have no issues with it. It's been cleaned and looks brand new.

Alulu123 · 13/09/2017 17:12

I wonder why they say to buy a new one? I'd be very surprised if it was due to anything you can visually see, for example, it being dirty or something. Must be another reason why second hand stuff is linked to SIDS but haven't a clue, personally!

TheLionQueen1 · 13/09/2017 18:51

I have bought my Moses basket and snuzpod second hand, ridiculous that you have to buy them all brand new, I would just be sensible about where you are buying it from, wash everything and check the firmness of the mattress!

I had my 36wk MW app today, less than 4 weeks left! Finally did nursery this week as my mat leave started!

MrsJ I have a horrible pain on the top of mine, where you would say the pubic bone is, feel like it's outside where the hair is Sad apparently it is baby in right position just getting ready to go! How's your sickness?

ew1990 · 13/09/2017 19:21

I had my 31 week appointment today, measured right size with tape measure but still gotta go for my growth scan Friday, just showing signs of another water infection in urine, I seem to have one every time they test my urine 😢

ScotsLamb · 13/09/2017 20:37

Seems to be about mould and dust on old mattresses as well as it losing its shape and support.
My Sleepyhead is on a new snuzpod mattress (snuzpod also second hand) so I think the support should be ok. It's been washed and aired by the previous owner and I will wash and air it before using. I'm taking all precautions.

@ScotsLamb that makes sense

TheLionQueen1 · 13/09/2017 21:39

I think a lot could be linked to sids, 'some research' is incredibly vague. It's very easy to worry ourselves about everything like that, but it's incredibly expensive to have a baby and unfortunately most people can't buy brand new. Victoria I would ask your MW personally rather than read online, they tend to know best!

lydiangel83 · 13/09/2017 21:57

The cynical part of me wonders which bed company sponsored that SIDS research...

ew1990 · 13/09/2017 22:17

I understand having to by 2nd hand stuff, I've bought my pram second hand it's expensive having a baby before they are even here!

Victoriaaaaaaaa · 14/09/2017 12:31

just need clarification..
when i come back off holiday my qualifying weeks will have ended. I was going to start my maternity beginning of november straight away. Now i'm thinking about lasting till December but going back to work part time from full time from October until December. Will this affect my SMP at all with the qualifying weeks having already ended?
thinking of going back after holiday from middle oct to end of november part time - ie from 5 days to 3 days
