ok twix! i will join you!

you dont need to worry about your ds playing with his bits for ages yet! by the time he starts that you will prob have no.2 on the way and have other things to worry about1!!

fettle · 22/03/2007 12:38

Hi Girls

Very long post to fill up this nice new thread - sorry!!

Firststar, - glad you?ve heard a heart beat with your Doppler ? do you think my toy stethoscope will work now I?m 12+3 weeks?! Don?t actually have one to try, but I?ve asked MIL to get one for DD?s birthday, which is next weekend.

Greedy/Chooster you?re sons sound adorable ? I have to admit that my scared thoughts come from what on earth do I do with a boy, if I have one?! Girls are easy! We weren?t going to find out the sex, but we might have to as DD announced a few weeks ago, that she wants a sister/ She doesn?t want a brother, as they are boys and she doesn?t like boys! In fact, it would make her very sad to have a brother! So we?ll need to warn her slowly over the preceding months!! Can you imagine having your baby and your 3 year old turns round and says, but I didn?t want a boy, I wanted a girl!

Anyway, I had fun evening ? food was good ? no ham though!! Beef, Chicken and Fish though so a wide range of other options.

Discussion was far from intellectual, normal army housing moans, golf, cricket world cup and west end musicals!!. It then turned into a planned general knowledge quiz, with Mr Men identification a primary factor! Not what you expect when you?re invited round to someone?s for dinner, but it was fun, and luckily, my memory from childhood didn?t fail me (DD is into Little Miss, but we don?t have any Mr Men at the mo ? may have to rectify that). I had no idea there was a Mr Perfect though!

Anyway, feeling strangely excited about my scan tomorrow, which is good. Feel quite pragmatic, that what will be, will be, but I?m slightly worried that we?ve remained a bit too unattached to this little one as a defence mechanism after 2 miscarriages, that once we get the good news, we are going to have to go on a serious bonding mission!

I think DH and I have decided if it is bad news then we are prepared for it, we are going to book a wonderful holiday somewhere exotic, which we couldn?t have done otherwise and I?ve been offered the possibility of a promotion at work, which would be tricky with a new baby as well. We?ve also decided that if this pregnancy doesn?t work we probably aren?t going to put ourselves through this worry for a 4th time ? we already have a beautiful little girl, who we thought we weren?t going to have, so we will count our blessings and spoil her rotten!

Anyway, must get on with some work.

Xxx

KitKat30 · 22/03/2007 12:45

This is very true Greedy - I told my DH and he just pissed himself laughing! Men!

Fettle - I really hope the scan goes well tomorrow. I'm keeping everything crossed for you hon. x

greedyforbabies · 22/03/2007 12:54

fettle - mr. perfect is one of the new Mr. men! i am afraid i have them all! (and i have had since before children!) how sad am i hey? i am so glad you are looking forward to your scan. thats how it should be! i am sure it will be great!
i am at work at the moment and i am just going to try out my stethoscope on my tummy! am i mad? actually i might google it first, to see when i am likely to hear anything.
fettle - i panicked that i wouldn't know what to do with a girl, but i did! you will be fine with a boy, but finding out might be a good plan and then you can prepare your dd. not sure my dd has a preference (apart from wanting an elephant, of course!) but she does want the baby to be called "pink". my ds said we could call it " rainbow" if its a boy! not convinced myself!!!

greedyforbabies · 22/03/2007 12:56

BOO! apparently you cant hear baby's heartbeat until 20 weeks with a stethoscope! 8 weeks to wait then!

Quick question - can I eat Boursin? I know it's soft cheese, but it must be processed and therefore OK for us pregnant ladies?

OP posts:
conkertree · 22/03/2007 13:46

sorry not sure kitkat.

about listening - we heard either on mn or somewhere else (and I suspect now that it was a joke) that DH could hear it's heart beat if he listened through a toilet roll tube. After several attempts in order to try and succeed so we'd not be too embarrassed that we had fallen for it, we gave up.

Although have since read that he might be able to hear just with his ear pressed against the tummy. needless to say we've tried that too but to no avail so far.

conkertree · 22/03/2007 13:47

www.babycentre.co.uk/pregnancy/nutrition/foodsafety/cheeseexpert/

this link says boursin is ok to eat

KitKat30 · 22/03/2007 13:58

Hooray! Thanks Conker

I'm too scared to try and listen for a heartbeat on my own - knowing me I'd do it wrong and then just worry myself that something was wrong with the baby. Think I'll leave it to the midwives...!

Can't wait until the baby starts moving. Has anyone felt any movements yet?

Chooster · 22/03/2007 15:39

Hello!

Fettle - Really really good luck for tomorrow! I'm sure it will all be fine, but I can so understand that you need to prepare yourseleves. We only started really bonding and talking about the baby once everything was OK medically. On the gender issue, we really found out so we could prepare DS as he had already said that he wanted a sister - not just that, but he wanted a big sister . Not sure how I could achieve that so we found out and now keep refering to my bump as his baby brother to try and get it to sink in.

Conker - I also read that about the toilet roll - We haven't tried it yet but were going to!! It kind of makes sense if you can allegedly hear somthing just by pressing your ear there. I'll get DH to try later.

Mmm, I love boursin - good question to ask

pinkranger · 22/03/2007 15:55

Good Luck tomorrow Fettle x

honeyapple · 22/03/2007 16:22

Hi!

OOOOHHHH Greedy GREAT news! How lovely to see your LO kicking about. So glad to hear all okay as you have had a bit of a up and down time with it... hopefully that is well and truly in the past now.

My tummy is really sticking out, I keep noticing it poking out from the bottom of my jumper, and I am only just 9 wks. I really don't want to be huge, I've always had a nice small bump before! Maybe my muscles have just given up, this being number 3! DP keeps saying I must just have wind, or need a poo... When I was PG with DD, I went on a work jolly to Dubai and got away with a bikini and not telling anyone I was PG- I think I was about 12 wks then.

Good luck fettle with your scan .

MrsMcJnr · 22/03/2007 16:23

Fettle ? I really hope it goes really well tomorrow You have such a great attitude. I remember when I was 8 and my Mum announced she was pg, I wanted a brother because I already had a sister but when my sister arrived, I was so crazy about her, I wouldn?t have changed her for the world and still wouldn?t! Your fall back list sounds good, I made one too and I have to say I have done/organised to do every thing on it, I don?t feel better yet but I know that I will.

Greedy ? bet you don?t have Mr Sexy?! My Dad?s pal wrote a spoof book when I was little called that, kept the grown ups very amused. Interesting names your DC are offering you!

Firsty ? glad the spotting has stopped. Can?t wait for you to add me to the list of due dates again You missed Greedy though.

I wasn?t sure if that was a joke or not either Conkertree

Hi all

Thanks for your support about tomorrow - makes me more positive knowing you are all hear for me. In a funny way, I'm trying to work out how to tell you all as soon as possible, while forgetting I have some real life people I really ought to tell first!!

Chooster, interestingly, DD has also announced that she wants a big brother - you just reminded me. This was after the I don't want a brother, as they are boys comment! Trying to explain that she can't have a big brother was quite tricky! Although she is already 105 cm, and not even 3 yet, so maybe if we have a son, he might be even more super tall and then she could have a bigger, younger brother, IYSWIM!!

Hey, how about boursin and ham pasta bake?

back later - not going out tonight anymore, my friend's broken her finger, poor girl!

xxx

greedyforbabies · 22/03/2007 19:29

so you have a big girl too fettle....good to hear! my dd is 2.2 and 100cm! she has been off the top of all the charts for height and weight since she was 6 months old! (yours must be too at that height surely?) i am waiting for her to overtake my ds! ( he is a pathetic 104cm!!!). good luck for tomorrow again. when you said about wanting to tell everyone on here i realised i forgot to tell my sister about my scan yesterday! i feel terrible! i have just texted her now! and we are really close too! i dont know what happened!

my pregnancy brain has definately kicked in now! i stole my childminders car keys today! not knowingly, of course, but when i got home they were in my coat pocket! whoops! unfortunately she had already spent about an hour looking for them by the time i discovered them! whoops again!

my poor ds hasn't been well today. i had to pick him up from nursery cos he had a temperature. when i checked it earlier it was 39.2! after my months of temping i think thats HOT! keeps telling me he is freezing bless him and i have him just in his vest so his temp doesn't go up any more. i am sure he thinks i am a mean mummy. i hate it when they are ill. i have to say that is the one thing that scares me about having another one. i really am not very good at coping with illness. i think all the medical stuff i have learnt haunts me and i always fear they have some dreadful disease. i am hoping his temp has gone down by the morning.

mrs - i WANT mr. sexy! thanks for noticing i was missing!!! the weird thing is.........i didn't notice i was missing, but i did notice fettle was missing!

honeyapple · 22/03/2007 19:46

Hi Greedy, poor DS... give him some Calpol and a cool drink. I agree about the illness thing and having three DC, mind you mine are much bigger than your little ones...I am very impressed that you are going to have 3 under 4 (is that right? or will DS be 5?) WOW anyway!!!
I went up to London the other weekend on my own with DS and DD... and it just made me think, How am I going to manage with 3? Just the logistics of only having 2 hands... My DS is really growing up recently though. He put DD to bed the other night cos I felt terrible! Put her in PJs,brushed her teeth read her stories! And on Mother's Day we stayed at SIL and BIL, and DS did breakfast for DD and his 2 little cousins! I know he will be very helpful when this one comes along.

Bodkin · 22/03/2007 20:37

Phew you ladies have been busy today! 25 posts alone on the new thread, let alone catching up wiht the end of the old thread. But I have to say I do like this shiny new thread.

Have no hope of remembering what everyone has said, but definitely want to say GOOD LUCK FETTLE for tomorrow. I like your back-up plan, but I really hope you will be coming on here with a big smile on your face!

RE. boys and their willies - it's not just boys you know! My DD went through a stage of being pretty curious how her equipment works! Caught her trying to put a playmobil person in there the other week (she was playing with them in the bath)!!!! And a friends little girl knows all about how to keep herself happy while in the pushchair (getting jiggy with the strap that goes between the legs) My poor friend was mortified when her DD first started doing it (at about 20 months) - now she's so blase about it - she just says "Oh x, for gods sake can't you save that for the bedroom"

I think the main reason I am terrified about having a tiny baby again is that DD was not an easy baby. Great pregnancy, but she was a very fractious baby for the first 9 months (the day she learnt to crawl was a godsend, she was sooooo much happier). Wish I had known about mumsnet back then, god it would have saved my sanity! Anyway, she is generally delightful now (apart from a fondness for biting other children, but that's another story) so I suppose at least this time round I know it will be alright in the end, if this little one is as much of a screamer.

Firsty - glad the spotting has stopped.

Re; what sex your children want the baby to be - my DD doesn't seem to have too much of a preference, some days its a boy, others a girl. But she keeps saying the baby will have to wear brown clothes (her least favourite colour)! Sibling rivalry has started already.

Really must go and do some work now. Still got tons to get through before I have this baby, and it's not getting any easier as the bump gets bigger!
