Spotting, cramping, "is my clearblue digi accurate?",* viability scans, measuring behind, measuring ahead, high hcg, low hcg, morning sickness, lack of morning sickness, anomaly scans....

That's right, folks, it's the place where scanxiety really means something, where the feeling like you're always going to be on the wrong side of statistics nevers go away, and where moments of sheer terror are par for the course ...it's pregnancy after infertility.

Join if you want to hang out with a supportive group of women across all different stages of pregnancy who can't believe they got here and are hoping like hell its all going to be ok.

mist Flowers please do stick around if you want.

lucie sorry you're feeling rubbish. Definitely take the drugs. Yes you need the 12w scan as they're not just taking a nuchal fold measurement, they'll also look to see that the heart is developing properly etc. But if you've had the all clear from panorama then you don't need to worry about what that scan shows you from the POV of the trisomies.

boris you are almost there! I know what you mean about counting down. I can't believe I'm 30w. There's a real baby inside me. He's coming. It's a bit overwhelming and emotional.

to everyone else. Hope you're all doing well.

AFM I am currently sat here jet lagged on my last work trip to the US. It is getting much heavier going through the airport, sleeping on the plane etc - plus am up at stupid o clock jet lagged and can't take anything. Ready to hang up my wings next week!

Ps I had my baby moon for a 5 day weekend 10 days ago - we ended up going to Spain. For those of you behind me I HIGHLY recommend doing something like this. The weather was perfect - 25c so not too hot but the sea was still warm so I swam every day. It was super relaxing at a time when I'm starting to slow down. Plus tanning the bump was ace and it looks awesome brown!

Thanks stealth, yes I will be having the 12 week scan to check the baby etc but the midwife has told me it's up to me whether I want them to do the nuchal part of the scan. She's booked me in for it for now but has said that we can have a think about it and if we decide against it we can tell them on the day we no longer want it. I'm just wondering how much value it would be if I've had the harmony already and wouldn't want conflicting results or something.

Ps your baby moon sounds amazing! Definitely want to do something like that!

Oh I see. They price it separately? It's just one measurement that they take - am surprised they ask!

No I don't think it's to do with price. It's just everyone has a choice about whether they want the nuchal test or not. Some women prefer not to have it as they say that it wouldn't make a difference to their choice and they would want to have the baby regardless of the outcome and would prefer not to know. I don't want there to be conflicting results if the nuchal is less accurate and am just wondering if the harmony is 99% accurate for downs is there any point having the nuchal which tests for the same thing and is only 80% accurate?!

Hi still plodding along. Almost 18w. Seems unreal that I'm almost half way

Report
stealthbanana · 24/10/2016 17:12

Oh I see. I would have the scan - they Don't just take a nuchal measurement, they look for other things that harmony doesn't test for (check that the brain, heart and stomach are forming correctly etc). But the harmony is much more accurate than the NT measurement so you shouldn't have any worries there!

Lucie - I wouldn't bother if I were you. The harmony sounds like it'll tell you, and it's one less letter to have to wait for! Lol.

We had our 18 week scan today and they confirmed the twins are girls! All measurements looking good so far. Xx

Oh that's amazing news Sammy! How lovely!

I think I've decided to get it done. It's free and they will be doing the scan anyway so they may as well take the nuchal measurements. The midwife said it was just for downs but reading up a bit although it doesn't test directly for them a poor result can sometimes be a marker for spina bifida and other trisomies not covered by harmony. None of it is very clear though so I think as they are scanning me anyway they may as well just do it.

stealthbanana · 24/10/2016 18:06

Yea the nuchal measurement takes about 0.5 seconds to take so it's not a lot of extra time!

Lovely news about your girls, Sammy. Bet it's starting to feel quite real now.

30 weeks, stealth! Holy crap. It's seems mere seconds ago you accidentally poas way before you should have. GrinYou're absolutely on the countdown now. Glad to hear you'll be slowing down on the work front, too. Can't imagine how you've managed all that travel over the months while also feeling sick. Hero.

Afm, currently on babymoon too and totally agree it's ace. Am just over 23 weeks so despite it also being half term (bugger) it felt like the right time to get away in terms of size and mobility. Amazing to have some sunshine and time off work to lie around reading and eating relax. We're in Cyprus and also highly recommend - four hour flight, no zika, 24-27 degrees with balmy evenings and good medical care if required.

Hope everyone else is doing well- good luck for the 12w scan* and harmony, lucie.*

Hello everyone! Not been here for a while. Life, you know.

Sammy, girls! 👯 how lovely!

Lucie, makes sense to me to have the nuchal done anyway. But in contrast to Stealth's experience it wasn't fast for me! At my 12 week scan I had to stay for ages, eat a sweet biscuit and drink cold water and do some odd movements as my bean was determinedly in the wrong position to measure the nuchal fold. It was all quite fun, actually!

Nearly 21 weeks here and feeling movements a bit more reliably now. I have my 20 week scan tomorrow (couldn't manage last week as we had hospital visits for my daughter). Feeling a bit nervous and hoping for the best.

loopylou1984 · 25/10/2016 21:16

Thank you everyone!

My nuchal test took ages too as twin 2 was in an awkward position! I had to get up and jump around a bit which is really hard when you need a wee and feel sick! Lol.

In other news my belly button has gone weird. I think it's going to turn in to an outy soon Sad

loopylou1984 · 25/10/2016 21:17

Zenzie - I can't wait to feel movement! I've had a few flutters but they could just as easily be wind! Lol. Are you going to find out the sex at your 20 week scan? Xx

Report
Zenzie · 26/10/2016 07:40

no, we decided against it Sammy. It'll most likely be a c section, so we'd like to keep as much mystery as possible! We could have found out back at ten weeks, when we did the harmony test.

The kicks are fun! I like the little reminder, as life is so busy that I can often forget I'm pregnant. My husband liked to hear me mention the kicks and he'll look forward to being able to feel them himself. Last time he put on his deepest voice and spoke to the bump and got a kick in the nose in response.

Hi everyone. Sorry I logged myself out and couldn't remember the password!

Hellomist. I'm so sorry for your loss. I know there's no words but thinking of you.

Sammy. Huge congratulations on the girl front. How very exciting.

Lucie. How's the sickness doing?

Stealth and Boris. Not long now.

I've got my 12 week scan a week tomorrow. I'm so bloody nervous.

Hi friends, good luck with your scan tomorrow. They are so nerve wracking aren't they. I have a scan and harmony test on Saturday so 10w1d and I'm starting to get really nervous thinking what if something has happened to the baby. The sickness is still there a lot although manageable at the moment so I haven't taken tablets. What I am finding though is that I am so hungry all the time. It's not through a lack of eating. I could have a fairly decent breakfast and then within 2 hours max I will be absolutely starving again to the point where my stomach hurts through hunger pangs. Is this normal?? I'm going to be the size of a house if I have to keep eating all the time!

Hello all!

Sammy, that's fantastic news about your little girls. That must be so exciting!

Lucie, I would have the nuchal test if I were you, since its free anyway, but echoing the others, mine took a while too and I had to roll onto my side and back to try to make baby move. Best of luck with the harmony test on Saturday. I can understand your nervousness. When I went for the 12 week scan, we hadnt had a scan since 6 weeks and I was terrified something would have gone wrong, but it was fine. I will keep everything crossed for you.

Zenzie, I hope you dont mind me asking, but are you expecting a c-section because of a previous one? I ask because thats the situation I am in, and I have been asked if I would prefer an elective c section. I'm completely undecided, as there are obviously pros and cons for both, and it would be interesting to see what someone else thinks. I hope everything goes well with your scan today.

Friends, good luck with your scan tomorrow.

Grumpel, I hope you are having an awesome babymoon. It sounds lovely.

Mist, if you are still around, I hope you are ok and I am thinking of you.

No news here. Currently awaiting the results from my scan last week, have 16 week appointment booked in with the midwife for next week, and I had a letter telling me my 20 week scan is on 2nd December. Lots of waiting to do haha. Luckily I have my uni course to keep me busy. Hope everyone else is good! :-)

And middle of the night munchies!!!

Zenzie - fair enough, we feel the same about 4d scans. We want what they look like to be a surprise!

Oh Sammy yes that's exactly it! I wake up in the night really hungry too. Please tell me it will go away soon?!

MPP, hope all goes well with the midwife appt next week. Enjoy a nice little break after that until your next scan.

tentatively shuffles on to the thread hope it's ok if I join you guys.... Found out last week that I'm pregnant after our second round of ivf - still don't actually consider myself pregnant although I've just endured 48 hours of beta hell which makes it a bit more real now the doubling has been confirmed.

Recognise a lot of your names from the threads on the infertility board and so good to see you're all progressing well. Will read through and catch up properly though.
