Spotting, cramping, "is my clearblue digi accurate?",* viability scans, measuring behind, measuring ahead, high hcg, low hcg, morning sickness, lack of morning sickness, anomaly scans....

That's right, folks, it's the place where scanxiety really means something, where the feeling like you're always going to be on the wrong side of statistics nevers go away, and where moments of sheer terror are par for the course ...it's pregnancy after infertility.

Join if you want to hang out with a supportive group of women across all different stages of pregnancy who can't believe they got here and are hoping like hell its all going to be ok.

Hi there, my midwife rung this morning and I have my booking appt next Monday when I will be 9+3. I'm assuming we don't have to take partners to this??

Grumpelstiltskin · 18/10/2016 10:44

Hi lucie, booking-in is super-dull, it's essentially just admin and blood and urine tests! I didn't bring dh and he missed nothing of importance.

Interesting chat about birth plans and inductions. I haven't got that far yet in talking to the midwife about options, but consultant previously seemed happy I was generally low-risk. I guess my trust isn't one that offers an early induction due to IVF.
For now, I'm just going to keep my options open. I'd love a birth centre birth with pool etc, but will obviously see how it goes. Friends of the fertile variety have generally been great in not dishing out too much advice but one thing they do keep saying is don't be wedded to any particular type of birth as you just never know!
plus still can't quite believe it'll ever get that far

MPP81 · 18/10/2016 13:56

Afternoon all!!

Mist, how are you doing? Glad to hear you are having betas done, and really hope they put your mind at rest. I'll be thinking of you tomorrow!

Lovely news on your scan, Icy. Glad it went well.

Sammy I am so sorry to hear that you didnt get much reassurance from your appointment. I cant believe they didnt scan you and I hope you are feeling better now. Glad the pain has eased.

Lucie at my booking in, they didnt even do blood and urine tests. They do them at the first scan. The booking in for me was just a big booklet which I had to fill in with info on myself, DH and any info I knew about conditions in our families. Then I had a talking to about what to eat/do and what not to eat/do, and was given some vitamins before being sent on my merry way. Took about 3/4 hour to an hour, and I didnt take DH. Hope you're doing ok!

AFM, I had my 12 week scan today. All looks fine, and it was such a relief to see a little wriggling baby with a heartbeat. They put me at 13 + 3, which is about 5 days more than I was expecting. We got some lovely pictures. Then I had to see the midwife, the consultant, have bloods and urine done, and see the dietician. We were there for AGES!

Hope everyone else is doing ok!

Vixxfacee · 18/10/2016 15:49

Congratulations on the scan MP.

Lucie there is no point in your partner being there it's just questions and bloods.

I had my midwife appointment and discussed induction. She said to me that ivf pregnancies are no more risk. That if issues happen it is nothing to do with the ivf (still birth etc).
She suggested I stick to my plan of a birth centre and give myself until 40 plus 7 for an induction if I am worried.
My gtt come back low risk, baby is measuring 2 days ahead on the growth chart. I am almost back to my pre pregnancy weight (thanks HG). So was a good appointment.

Booked into breastfeeding classes and antenatal too.

HelloMist · 18/10/2016 15:59

thanks for asking MPP81 :) I think at least for now asking for betas was the right thing to do - feeling bit calmer knowing it. Despite having some pains this afternoon (could be normal ones or digestive, I'm not quite sure) and still no other symptoms. I am thinking I might not ring up until Friday and then get the whole picture. Will see how restrained I feel tomorrow. (got to get 2nd blood taken anyway). That's great your scan went so well! :)

HelloMist · 18/10/2016 16:00

glad today went well Vixx and that midwife was helpful regarding induction.

friends123 · 18/10/2016 18:37

Really glad your scan went well MPP81.

Hello Mist. I'm still not really having many symptoms. Just tried really and i've put on 7lb already Shock. I hope the betas give you some reassurance.

I had my booking in appointment yesterday. I've got my appointment for a scan on the 3rd of November.

Sounds like a good appointment Vixx. I'm glad everything went well.

lucieloos · 18/10/2016 18:44

MPP, that's brilliant news about your scan so pleased for you and finally out of the first trimester! Thanks for the info about the booking appt. I have the booklet already so I need to fill that in. What hospital are you at?

Mist, good luck with the betas hope they go well.

Vixx, sounds like a good appt glad all is well.

Grumple, thanks for the info. Definitely lots of birthing options to think about!

Grumpelstiltskin · 18/10/2016 18:50

Hooray for a successful and reassuring 12wk scan, MPP! Another milestone reached.

Also great that you got some decent info from the midwife, vixx and excellent news that babyvixx is looking big and healthy. Are you going to do NHS breastfeeding classes? The NCT keep bombarding me with info on theirs but they already have vast sums of my money so interested in looking into other options.

to everyone else and thinking of those in the terrifying early stages Flowers

Vixxfacee · 18/10/2016 19:26

Thanks everyone.

Grumpel it is the NHS one. It is only for a 1 hour and then they have a breastfeeding support café once a week for pregnant women and those with children already for support as you go along.

Why do NCT have vast sums of your money?

Grumpelstiltskin · 18/10/2016 19:55

Just cos I've booked the NCT antenatal series of classes, vixx! Was rather pricier than I anticipated- bah, London.

Vixxfacee · 18/10/2016 19:57

How much was it and how many sessions? When I looked online I couldn't quite see the price! I looked at Daisy too and that was quite expensive.

Grumpelstiltskin · 18/10/2016 20:33

Vixx- 6 sessions- two are full days, two half days and two a couple of hours in the evening. It was £300 ShockShock
I'm looking at it though like I am literally** investing in some local friends. Only moved here a few months ago so will be nice to meet some people at a similar stage. But still. Ouch.

Vixxfacee · 18/10/2016 20:58

That is a lot of money but if you can meet a few friends will be worth it. Have you looked at the NHS ones in your area as well? I don't know anyone in my area either but not expecting to meet any friends at the NHS ones.

Smurfy1981 · 18/10/2016 21:15

I have booked onto nhs antenatal classes- laisy daisy classes were too expensive!! Has anybody used a bump support atall?? I am struggling with stretchy pains in my tummy when out walking- which i do quite a bit of with my job and was hoping there was something to help suplort it x

Borisisback · 18/10/2016 21:20

We also had to pay similar for the Nct classes round here. I'm relatively new to the area so want to meet muns in similar situations. Bloody ecmxpensive way of making friends. Our local nhs put on the same course for free but it's shorter so that's always an alternative - just less social.

stealthbanana · 18/10/2016 21:28

grumpel I booked a private antenatal course on the basis that if I had to pay through the nose, at least I'd spare myself the earth mother hippy nct stuff Grin. Am doing the nct first aid course though in a couple of weeks. Looking forward to learning how not to kill the baby.

boris you must be getting so close now! How are you feeling?

Great news on scan and bloods vixx and mpp! Another milestone on the charts. and mist good news on the betas. Hopefully it all goes in the right direction.

I think I might be starting to get braxton hicks. Could this be possible at 29w? I am terrified I'm about to give birth not least because I'm currently on a plane heading 8 hours away from the UK. My bump goes rock hard and gets a bit sore, then it relaxes again. Has happened a few times. Aaaaah!

I didn't take df to mw booking in

He comes to all scans and antenatal apps as lovely receptionist made sure on same day after each other

HelloMist · 18/10/2016 22:13

Personally I found I met mums I clicked with better through free/cheap baby groups than in my NCT group! Just to reassure anyone who can't afford to do it. I may have been unlucky though and it was helpful in the early days before I knew anyone. Found the course itself quite good too (but didn't do NHS one so I can't compare).

HopefulKate1980 · 19/10/2016 10:26

Hi everyone

Sorry I haven't posted much. I found the best way to deal with my anxiety was to step away from places where I think about being pregnant. Pretty hard when I have google two seconds away at any time!

Anyway just wanted to say hope you are all well and to send you all my love. Welcome to the newcomers.

I have my 20 week scan today. Nervous as hell. The fear always re-surfaces doesn't it? Wish me luck!

Lots of love and hope to everyone always xxx

MPP81 · 19/10/2016 13:00

Lucie I'm at Ystrad Fawr for all my ante-natal appointments but I can't have the baby there because I'm classed as high risk, so they've given me the choice of neville hall, Prince Charles or the Gwent. I had my daughter at the heath but they said apparently its a bit overbooked at the moment and they would prefer me to use one of the others. I think we will go with the gwent out of those three. Where will you be?

Glad your appointment went well Vixx

Mist Did you go for betas today after, or are you waiting til Friday? I hope you're ok.

Very interesting discussion on the classes! I don't really have anything insightful to add but I shall probably be making use of the NHS ones so as not to give DH a heart attack at more spending!

Good luck with the scan today Kate! Will be thinking of you. Keep us posted!!

lucieloos · 19/10/2016 13:08

MPP, I assume I will be at the Heath based on where I live but I will probably find out more at the appt with the midwife on Monday I imagine.

loopylou1984 · 19/10/2016 17:44

Hopeful - how did your scan go?

Re ante natal I think we'll do the NHS ones but possibly a twin one through tamba too... need to figure out if it's worth it.

Stealth - eek to the Brixton hicks, I think this is about the normal time to get them isn't it? 8 hours away? Where are you off too?

Thanks everyone for the outrage re lack of scan on my behalf. My bump has suddenly popped out so I think the pain must have been my muscles getting out the way! Was very scary at the time though, and. Scan/listen would have really helped me. Xx

HelloMist · 20/10/2016 00:10

MPP I've had both blood draws now but no results. I rang up to see if the first 1 was available today but it wasn't. Actually relieved that it wasn't because I ended up having a really nice afternoon and evening, free of obsessing! This after I slept so badly last night and was so nervous today until I'd got the 2nd one taken (worrying about getting there on time, with DD at her naptime, for 48h interval as much as the situation). The receptionist said results might be available Friday or "early next week" which seems a little bit pointless (scan is Thursday).

Oh well! hopefully the next few days will be calmer.

I hope the scan went well Kate.

HelloMist · 20/10/2016 01:29

There was pinkish-red when I checked/removed crinone build up. Sad
