Hi Girls

We found out on Good Friday that we're expecting our first child and we won't be telling our parents for a few weeks so for now I thought it was worth starting a thread so I've got a place to get excited about all things baby with people due at a similar time - without chewing DH's ear off about it constantly. Bless him he's excited too but I seem to want to talk about nothing else right now which is hard seeing as we're the only ones that know our little secret!

My EDD is 2nd December according to the NHS website which makes me 4+5, and I've got my first doctors appointment this Friday. I understand they won't really do or say a lot but think they'll refer me to the midwife? Or do I do that myself?? Anyway, I'm excited!!!

Hope everyone's feeling good and upbeat, looking forward to some due date buddies to chat to Smile

Hi bumble - thanks, yes I will try and protest. Failing that, go private I suppose. I hate it when these things turn into a battle when the admin should be the easy bit! (Here's me foolishly thinking the actual having a human being grow inside you was the hard bit!)

For you, don't worry - the school have no right to know earlier or to be annoyed. The investment they made in you still stands and you have still contributed (and will contribute later on, regardless of what you do next, at that school or any other job). I'll bet you've worked really hard (I remember my NQT year) and you don't owe anything to anyone! Hopefully they'll be pleased for you anyway Smile

Vb87 · 26/04/2016 18:35

Lisacat- with my first, I had no symptoms at all. No morning sickness, no cravings, no cramps...nothing. Baby number 2 however is throwing them all at me!

bumbleclat · 26/04/2016 18:56

Thanks Rugby 😊 good luck with getting an earlier appointment, 16 weeks is a bit much I think.
VB87 Lucky you on baby number 1 without Preggo symptoms I'm only 5 weeks and already gave massive sore boobs, constipation, waking up in the middle of the night feeling queasy, fatigue and cramping!!
Maybe it's my body's reaction to the vast drop in caffeine it's enduring!

Helbelle75 · 26/04/2016 21:20

Hope you don't have to battle too hard for an earlier scan Rugby.

I wouldn't worry bumble, I've only been at my current job since June and as I'm the only teacher of my subject, I'll be leaving them in a bit of a pickle. I've spoken to my line manager already and she's fine.

I can't stop eating and I have to go to bed straight after work as I'm so tired!

Rugby01 · 26/04/2016 21:32

Thanks bumble and hellebelle - the letter is really annoying but if I have to go private for the scan I suppose I will have to find the money. Not a great time to ring the NHS I imagine....

Hope you are ok, hellebelle with this tiredness! It is strange isn't it. And I get so hungry by 4pm I could eat another lunch. Oops. Must start swimming.

bumble - reassuring words from hellebelle. Hope you feel better about the work thing. What can we do? Can't predict these things. I'll have to tell mine before my scan st this rate as I really need them to know for my own safety and sanity!

Minispringroll · 26/04/2016 21:44

Rugby 16 weeks is quite late, although I know what you mean about the lack of privacy. I once went outside and sat in my car during lunchtime to make a call.
In my case, SLT know (still feeling really guilty, considering I've only just started, but I won't be off forever) and my class LSA know, because I've started to feel a little dizzy at times. For health and safety reasons and to help them plan for next year, this should make things a bit easier. I'm terrible at keeping secrets anyway. With my first pregnancy, my colleagues knew from when I was four weeks. Turned out to have been important, since I needed to rush off from a school trip and needed someone to come out and cover, because I miscarried. It wasn't a great situation, but it was good to have the support at school.

Went to fertility clinic today and they've released us from their care. Job done, I suspect. Grin She said not to worry about the size, since the baby might just be curled up and therefore measures smaller than it actually is at this stage.

Rugby01 · 27/04/2016 10:26

Turns out it's not a scan letter - it's a consultant appointment (as I'm so old!!). So I am still waiting for a scan letter. Crikey.

Helbelle75 · 27/04/2016 11:43

Really Rugby?! I'm 40 - maybe I should expect one as well then! Hope your scan letter comes through soon.

I'm eating all the time, but because it's healthy stuff and I'm not drinking, I don't think I've gained any weight. Maybe lost a little. Can't wait to feel well enough to get back to dancing. I'm going to attempt to go tonight. It's at 8, so I can have a nap first! What's happened to me!!

Rugby01 · 27/04/2016 17:24

Hi Hellbelle - ooh dancing sounds good! Hope you get to go and it's fun. I miss running too, but I was never doing loads before I got preg so not sure if I should do too much.

Yeah I'm 40 and they told me I'd have 'consultant led care' because of that. Oh well. Like you, I feel pretty healthy so I'm not too worried. Just more appointments I suppose and no choice of where to give birth (it must be at hospital apparently).

minispring - wow, your story does make me think. As you say, colleagues can be so supportive at times of crisis. And sorry for your loss last time. Glad the fertility clinic signed you off! That must be satisfying. And I hope you're feeling ok and not too dizzy.

Nearly Friday! SmileCake

Helbelle75 · 28/04/2016 06:35

I didn't make it - exhausted again when I got home and a bit anxious as I got a letter cancelling my scan and rearranging it for a day I can't do. I explained when I rearranged the first time that I'm away the week they want me in except for the Monday, no problem, all booked in. DH cancelled a trip at work and booked the day off. I'm really annoyed and quite worried that I won't get a scan when I need it. Seeing mw this afternoom, so hope she can reassure me.

Princesspinkgirl · 28/04/2016 12:04

I got my bfp few days before AF was due on a line test and then digital same day I'm now due December 25th Halo

Rugby01 · 28/04/2016 16:00

hellebelle - how are you? Did they sort your scan date? How annoying! I hope it's just an admin error. Shame you didn't get to go dancing. I know what you mean though as I went to see a play last night and nodded off in the middle - oops.

Congrats princess - what a date!

How's everyone else doing?

berkshiregirl2016 · 28/04/2016 20:24

Hi ladies, I hope you don't mind me joining, I'm popping my mumsnet cherry.
I too am due on Dec 3rd, 8+5 currently and would love to 'meet' others due around the same time x

Helbelle75 · 28/04/2016 21:32

Hi berkshiregirl congratulations! Exciting times.
I'm fine thanks rugby but had to leave band practice half way through. One of my friends asked and I can't lie, so chatted to her about it. To be fair, I think most people have guessed anyway.
I had my booking appointment today which was interesting, and vey informative. Didn't have the energy to rearrange the scan today so will do that tomorrow. How's things with you?

bumbleclat · 28/04/2016 22:22

Hello all, welcome newbies, oooh it's so exciting/terrifying!

I've got my midwife appointment moved forward to next Wednesday slap bang in the middle of a morning at work I think Ive got no choice but to tell the head tomorrow Im soon nervous (don't want anyone to know-Like it being a secret)
:(

Rugby01 · 29/04/2016 06:24

Hello berkshiregirl - congratulations. Welcome!

hellebelle - glad you found someone to confide in - interesting that people had guessed. I wonder if anyone has here! I can't wait to let it out of the bag as I feel bad that they can't start recruiting for October yet (I intend to leave at half term- makes most sense). To be honest I am dreading working the first half term next term as I'll be so pregnant and it's such a nightmare term of work. So the sooner they recruit the better for me next term... Oh well I still think I'll wait til the scan. Don't want to tempt fate.

bumble - glad you have your booking in appointment! Hope it goes well. Very exciting to have appointments starting to drift in as it starts to feel more real.....

berkshiregirl2016 · 29/04/2016 06:49

Thanks all.
Bumble, don't worry about telling work, they have an obligation to support you (though I've heard some companies can be tricky nevertheless).
We lost three babies last year and it was only thanks to the tests following the third that we found out I have hypothyroidism, which has a direct connection with miscarriage. Devastating to have to go through all that when a simple blood test would have shown it at any time. Still, all other results ok so it was about 90% likely to be down to this (there's always a small chance of it just being unexplained). I've has three scans already, and a few more weeklies before my nuchal, and all is looking promising. I've actually been signed off for the last two weeks due to severe morning sickness, lost 6lbs in two weeks! Hoping to return on Tuesday, but the commute is no fun so we'll see. I'm really lucky to have such supportive management behind me at work.

Anyway, sorry for the rant - now you know my story Smile

44PumpLane · 29/04/2016 07:23

Hi all, thought I'd come and join you.

I'm feeling a bit shell shocked- I'm 6+1, found out last Friday night that I'm pregnant and EDD 22nd Dec.

To go against the grain here I was a bit frustrated.....I'm 33, everyone we know who has conceived in the past few years has taken 1-2 years so we figured we'd best get on with it. We try and pretty much immediately get pregnant (I literally mean 1 week in to trying)!

This is going to sound terrible but I feel really under prepared for this, I've done no reading, no research, I figured there'd be loads of time. I had 3 soft boiled eggs last weekend!!!!

I've lost 6lb in the last 3 weeks as I started a diet (didn't know I was pregnant obviously). But have been eating loads, just really healthy, calorie light foods.

Got booking in appointment in a week and a half and not going to tell anyone until after scan and the tests (our trust does blood tests for things like spina bifida and other potential complications).

Anyway- I hope I'm not alone in feeling somewhat shell shocked- I'll just be reading along with this thread so I can see what's going on with people!

Vb87 · 29/04/2016 07:30

I've seen a few are teachers on here, me too. I had an incident with a child yesterday. Our staff room is on a corridor that is out of bounds to children, as I was coming out the door a child ran around the corner and went head first into my stomach...completely winded me! The child got told off by another member of staff for running inside and being in a place they shouldn't have been. Because no one at work yet knows I'm pregnant, they thought I was making a bit of a fuss about the collision, I was just concerned about my little blueberry. Anyway, I've had no pain or bleeding following the bump so I'm hoping everything's ok...my DH now wants to wrap me in cotton wool haha

Kajlo · 29/04/2016 08:48

Hi everyone - I hope you're all good - and Vb87, I know how that feels... in my case it's a cat though, who loves jumping on my belly if I lay on my back (not very flattering anyway....). So it's all 'on the side' from now on.

Getting a bit worried about not having any morning sickness at all while everyone else seems to have it. Definitely still pregnant though as unconcious by 8 pm in the evenings, and had a complete meltdown about not finding my passport last night... called DH at work and sobbed for a good 15 minutes before finding the passport! Blush

berkshiregirl2016 · 29/04/2016 10:34

Hi Kajlo, don't worry if you haven't had morning sickness, consider yourself one of the lucky ones Wink a friend of mine recently had her second little boy and had no morning sickness with either. I'd be more worried if you had it and it suddenly stopped after a couple of weeks, as happened with each of the three I lost last year.
I've got my booking in appointment on May 18th and nuchal scan on the 23rd. Fingers crossed for all of us.

lisacatjohnson · 29/04/2016 11:33

Hi Vb87 glad to know I wasn't the only one and hope you are not suffering too bad this time round!

I had absolutely no symptoms until Wednesday when I was suddenly doubled over in pain all day from my right hand side - I presumed the worst. I went to my GP who referred me to the EPU yesterday where I had an early scan. Everything is fine and saw the heartbeat flickering away...this pregnancy thing is crazy Grin

ermmm · 29/04/2016 16:41

Hiya ladies👋🏼.

Hope you all are doing well.
I had my midwife booking appt yesterday. Edd 13th Dec as I had worked out on the calculator anyhow.
No scan here till after 12 weeks... Not sure I can wait 5 weeks. didn't want to tell anyone till the scan but really don't think I'll be able to wait. Lol

Rugby01 · 29/04/2016 17:23

vb- I hope you're ok - I can imagine how worried you must have been. I suppose our bodies are better at protecting the blueberries than we think!

kajlo- sounds like you have enough symptoms without morning sickness. Hope it stays that way for you. I know what you mean about emotional. I had a day of being quite tetchy with the kids. Sure it's more my hormones than them...

Still no scan date here. And I'm 10+1. Just waiting and waiting...

Rugby01 · 29/04/2016 19:49

ermmm- I know what you mean. I will probably try and arrange a private scan if don't get a scan before half term as I really need to get next year's situation sorted out and that really needs to be asap. I was told the scan dept near me is overwhelmed at the moment with a big backlog.
