Hi Girls

We found out on Good Friday that we're expecting our first child and we won't be telling our parents for a few weeks so for now I thought it was worth starting a thread so I've got a place to get excited about all things baby with people due at a similar time - without chewing DH's ear off about it constantly. Bless him he's excited too but I seem to want to talk about nothing else right now which is hard seeing as we're the only ones that know our little secret!

My EDD is 2nd December according to the NHS website which makes me 4+5, and I've got my first doctors appointment this Friday. I understand they won't really do or say a lot but think they'll refer me to the midwife? Or do I do that myself?? Anyway, I'm excited!!!

Hope everyone's feeling good and upbeat, looking forward to some due date buddies to chat to Smile

44pumplane that's exactly what happened to us we thought we'd better crack on as I'm 31 this year and DH 44 I was hoping I'd be pregnant by January next year and that very month realised I was pregnant! Also due on Dec 22nd.

Told the head st my school today she is looking worried about what she'll do but congratulated me.
What's awkward is that I know she's told loads of our very small team but I don't want to tell everyone til 12 weeks.

Rugby01 · 30/04/2016 00:18

44 and bumble - so good that you didn't have to wait long! You must be very healthy/lucky! Sounds like it's turned up as a bit of a shock though.

bumble- how annoying that your head has told others before you want them to know. I hope they are at least tactful about it.

44PumpLane · 30/04/2016 07:40

Rugby it's been a definite shock! i also feel a bit guilty- we have friends and relatives who have longed for kids their entire lives who really struggled to conceive (luckily they all have at least one child now) and we were never bothered and this happens, it just feels a bit mean of Mother Nature (if you know what I mean)!

Shock has worn off about now and we're pleased. Trying not to get too carried away with ourselves "just in case" but trying to think of some creative ways to have our puppy tell my mum (my mum has been DESPERATE for a grandchild forever)!

bumble it's nice to have a due date buddy! Also very frustrating that your head told others! Is that even allowed?

I just accepted a new job at work on the Tuesday then found out on the Friday, I've not told work yet, not really sure when I should tell them! Eek!

Rugby01 · 30/04/2016 10:15

44 - oh I know it must be difficult. It took us a while and I was very sensitive to hearing about others' good news and to my family complaining about how tired they were with their children all the time. I am now on the other side and wondering how to tell some people.

What a tricky situation with the job, for you. At least you have some time to think about how to do it and what to say.

hellebelle - did you get your scan date sorted?

Rugby01 · 30/04/2016 10:48

Just got my scan letter! It's in half term though and was hoping to tell work before half term... Oh well. Also realised I'm 9+2 today (not 10+2). Here's me wishing the time away... Argh it's so slow!!!

bumbleclat · 01/05/2016 01:37

Hi everyone, I'm awake again at this time (1:30) having flopped into bed at 11, is anyone else waking up feeling really queasy/hot?
I don't know what to do with myself :(

Bumble, I'm the same. Do you get night sweats? I get them pretty severely and wake up drenched some nights. Really weird, vivid dreams too, sometimes nightmares, which makes the sweating worse!

lovewatchingrainfall · 01/05/2016 10:10

Morning all Hope your all well.

So I'm only 7weeks today and I have to admit the nausea (spelling?) is killing me. I had really bad morning sickness with my daughter 3years ago.
But think the nausea is much worse! I would rather be sick. It's had me laid up in bed the last few days because I feel so sick.
Any advice??
My Husband has also just reminded me that I haven't told the doctors I'm pregnant yet and that I really should get on with that as they will need to speak to the midwifes.

Rugby01 · 01/05/2016 16:02

lovewatchingrain - sorry you're feeling so nauseous. I am getting this too - every afternoon and evening from around 4pm. I find if I keep drinking water and eating small things often, it helps a bit.

berkshiregirl2016 · 01/05/2016 16:07

It's horrid, isn't it. I'm back at work on Tuesday after being signed off for two weeks, and my gp has only agreed to certify me fit for work if I work reduced hours and take regular breaks.

I find water makes me worse (I drink a lot of it usually) but Ribena I can keep down. Apples and Fab ice lollies also stay down! I would steer clear if cheese and anything else remotely fatty. I also find sickness gets worse as the day goes on.

Minispringroll · 01/05/2016 17:52

I feel my nausea is worse when I'm at home, since I get distracted in school most of the time. (However, I could have fallen asleep on the carpet on Friday afternoon. I'm soooo tired all the time.)
I don't particularly like water. Have tried adding limes to it, which has made it a little bit better. I usually drink loads of tea...have switched to fennel and chamomile for the time being, which I also really like.
Plums, grapefruits and oranges are nice, but I tend to need something more substantial. I love cheese. My colleague had macaroni cheese for lunch and I was so jealous. Hmm Never used to have lunch at school (at least not since I left my first school, where food in the cantine was just amazing),... I now clear out an entire lunchbox, including sandwich, yoghurt, two pieces of fruit and a cereal bar. Shock Blush Still ravenous by the time I get home.

I've watched OBEM, because some of the episodes are set in Bristol. Makes me want to have an ELCS...Confused

Vb87 · 01/05/2016 18:15

Has anyone experienced chest pain? I've got a really sharp pain in the middle of my chest, it's worse when I lean forward. It was just intermittent the last few days but it's been constant all day...Sad

lovewatchingrainfall · 01/05/2016 18:24

Minispringroll. Did not know they were in Bristol (guessing St Michaels?) will have to watch as this is where this one will be born. My DD was born there 3years ago too.

I hate this nausea today I have done nothing but moan and sleep.

Minispringroll · 01/05/2016 18:26

canteen...goodness, me.

Vb87 Could it be indigestion? If it's really bad, I'd get it checked out.

Minispringroll · 01/05/2016 18:28

lovewatching No, it's Southmead. We'll probably end up at St Michael's, though. They've looked after me brilliantly when I had to go in for my laparoscopy.

bumbleclat · 01/05/2016 18:58

VB87 yes to chest pain I mean REALLY bad to the point where I thought I was having a heart attack but went for ECG and blood tests etc and DR told me it was inflammation of my breast bone and rib cage (which is common in pregnancy) do get it checked out but don't send yourself into a blind panic like I did!!

lovewatchingrainfall · 01/05/2016 19:24

minispring i am hoping not to go into Southmead, not heard great things about it. Will stick to St Michaels'.

Minispringroll · 01/05/2016 19:42

lovewatching Never been to Southmead. Have friends, who had babies there, and they seemed to think it was quite good. Confused We live about half an hour from St Michael's and we had support from the fertility team there. It's quite small, but seems nice.
Our local hospital is a lot smaller and they seemed lovely there as well, but they've only got a midwife-led unit and I'd be transferred to St Michael's anyway, if anything went wrong. Considering my medical history, I'd rather have consultants at hand. (I'm also not British, so the whole idea of only having midwives there is very alien to me. I'm sure they are perfectly capable...but it just seems really weird. I used to have private medical cover in my home country and would have expected a private room, consultant-led care and a week-long stay in hospital after the birth...)

ermmm · 02/05/2016 05:16

I'm 7 weeks 6 today. Really don't feel like eatting anything. At the booking appt with midwife had protein and ketones in the urine test as I seem to forget to eat. I don't feel hungry at all till around lunch time😁.
Have started forcing myself to gave fruit smoothies in the morning but they just make me feel I can go longer without food 🤔.

13 DS was told last week of having to give up his reign of the little sir that he seems to be lol.
Last night he actually wanted me to give him the 'costs' involved in having the baby😲.
Had to shut that down when I went through just a weeks of spending I have done for him...
Baby ain't even here jealous much?...😏

Vb87 · 03/05/2016 09:29

The chest pain turned out to be severe indigestion! A few gaviscon and back to normal! Back to nausea lol
How is everyone feeling??

Helbelle75 · 03/05/2016 09:48

Hello everyone
hope we're all ok, and not suffering too much! I'm still absolutely exhausted, and nausea has now set in. It's worse around tea time, and when I smell stale cooked food. I've developed tennis elbow (no idea how!) and definitely feel very pregnant!
No luck sorting the scan out yet - I've not been able to get through to them which is worrying me slightly.
Keep smiling everyone!

Helbelle75 · 03/05/2016 15:34

Result! Scan date is on the 23rd May, just before I go away, so that's good. Very happy about that :-)

lovewatchingrainfall · 03/05/2016 17:24

Finally booked in with Midwife next week at 8weeks 2days. She told me it will be about 2hours! What on earth can I talk to her about for 2hours. The booking appointment with my daughter was only half hour, and this was 3 years ago have things changed that much.

Minispringroll · 03/05/2016 19:15

Hellbelle Glad you got this sorted. Mine is on the 18th, but it's an earlier reassurance one at the EPU again. (I'm not sure whether I'll get a "normal" scan in weeks 12-14...Confused

Lovewatching We were told 1 1/2 hours. I'm not sure what's supposed to take so long, either. Hmm Both DH and I had to take time off work for that because they only do them in the mornings. Is there any reason for that?
