No, unfortunatley there are some religions that still want a certain sex of baby, and I suppose so people that are obsessed with having either a boy or a girl.. crazy crazy...

I think its also got to do with the blame/claim society.. they tell you its a girl, you go out and spend hundreds/thousands on pink furniture, clothes cars and then out he pops!!!

Long shot here... any of you ladies got the isabella oliver halter top in crimson that I could buy/borrow... got a friend that I went to school with's engagement party in 2 weeks.... lots of people I have seen for years... need to look fabulous and blooming... not troll like... and this is the only top that I can think of that will be "right"

Anjo1 · 15/01/2007 15:13

hi all !!hope we're all keeping well,
I'm fine , 28 days till D-day !! soo excited at the prospect of finally meeting my baby ( HE/SHE??hmm??), my sister who was also preg gave birth to a little girl at the weekend , that makes it 5 GIRLS! out of the 6 children that my sisters have between the 3 of them !!!
swaddling wraps: ordered some at the weekend as well , oops!! I'll just have to wait and see as well,
GMM - re :Isabella Oliver top sorry can't help you there , I'm sure you'll find something to look fabulous in anyway

geordiemacminx · 15/01/2007 15:48

Was just thinking about you earlier, hadnt heard from you in a while, was just wondering whether baby anjo had made an appearance!!!

Have you got a date for moving yet?

Pleased your sister is ok!!!

Still think you are having a little boy!!!

Anjo1 · 15/01/2007 16:17

No anjo yet although if family history is anything to go by should make an appearance in 3 weeks not 4; all my sisters' first babies were 1 week earlier than their due date .- weird coincidence ..?
yup , started packing , moving in next Thursday , bought a new suite at the sales , it's fab!my interior design brain is going into overdrive, it's all furniture and soft furnishings that I need to sort out as the whole house is freshly painted and carpeted .I'll finally get to do the baby's nursery !! yay!!
don't want to lean too far one way re the boy/girl thing so just not thinking about it now ! just visualising a healthy lovely little baba

geordiemacminx · 15/01/2007 16:31

There are some good bargins to be had at the moment, we have just bought a sofa bed, as the bunks and the spare bed are being sold... so much preparation for someone so little!!!!

Feeling loads of movement at the moment... I think he's definatley going to be a footballer!!

Is there anything else that you need for the house? I have loads of "spares" of things in the garage, inc a dvd, video, next beech tv unit, coffee espresso machine, 2 bed side tables... let me know anyways other wise it will be the tip!!

weeonion · 15/01/2007 19:00

good evening folks - how are you all?

twiga - as far as i knoow- it is now the policy in glasgow to not tell you the sex at the scan

gmm - sorry babe- i dont have that top. trying to think of anything else but nothing along teh same lines... hope u had a good weekend with yr mum - no tiffs over taste??

anjo - hey good to hear back from you! not long now - the countdown is on......

should we try and et a meet arranged soon/ i know some of us wont be able to make it - with LO due any time but - it might be nice to get as many together as possible? GMM- we did have chat about a ocean terminal meet at spa?
what do you all reckon??

Loulee · 15/01/2007 19:30

That's right for the QMH Glasgow - no telling you what the sex is. Will be paying lots of attention to my scan in a couple of weeks time to see if i can work it out!

weeonion · 15/01/2007 20:48

any of you folks any experience of the tummytubs baths? someone has asked if they can get us one as a gift. i think they look cute but dont know anyone who has used them!

also - at the xmas meal - GMM & vio talked about a bedside cot that meant the baby slept right beside you. did you mange to find one and if so - where?? we have bought a cotbed for the nursery but still undecided as to what to have her in, in the early days when she is in our room. an amby nest? a moses basket? one of these bassinets? any advice from any of you??

Loulee · 15/01/2007 20:59

We just used a moses basket passed down through the family - a funny wicker thing that looks a bit Rosemary's baby! - in a cool sort of way. They grow out of them so soon though - wouldn't spend lots of money. DD1 and DD2 both spent early days in there and co-sleeping in our bed (rules change all the time, but this is what I'll do again).

I've heard the cot beds that can butt up to the bed at the same level are good (our bed was the wrong level!). There is also some (v. expensive) australian hammock/basket thingy that everyone claims is wonderful. No more details i'm afraid.

weeonion · 15/01/2007 21:11

i think that hammock is the amby nest but they are about £150 and as we have spent a fair bit on teh cot bed - not so sure i want to lay that all out.

Loulee · 15/01/2007 21:15

I personally wouldn't lay out that amount either. Don't have any of these problems luckily - the opposite - far too much stuff! my advice would be buy as little as possible. So much of it is unnecessary.
Have never heard of the bath thingy. we didn't bother with one, dd's just came in the bath with me - or had a wee wash in the sink!
I've heard the baby 'buckets' are quite good. But it's basically just a plastic bucket!!

suzi2 · 15/01/2007 21:59

I'm the amby nests no 1 fan . Bought it for DS, he only moved out of it into an IKEA cot at 11 months. Was a godsend. Very comfy for him, could bounce him to sleep when he was really colicky and I had no worries about his rolling or anything. He has a lovely head shape (so I'm told by all health professionals!) which could be due to it. And it was sooo portable that if came to my mums for the night or on holiday with us. Can't wait to use it again this time. And then sell it on e-bay... they reach a pretty good 2nd hand price!

But if I hadn't got one, I wouldn't have bothered with a moses basket TBH. expensive for what they are and aren't used for long. As for the tummy tub... expensive bucket? I have a few friends that rave about them but I think it's probably easier just to get in the big bath with your little one.

suis · 16/01/2007 01:01

We've been given a moses basket by very very kind friends who said their LO didn't take to it, so it's hardly used. Also have a tummy tub. My cousin used one for her LO and said it was the only gadgetey thing that she would recommend to other people. I like the idea that you don't have to carry a bit heavy flat bath full of water about, or strain yourself leaning into the bath, and i'm sure it'll make and excelelnt bucket when LO grows out of it !

Anjo1 · 16/01/2007 14:59

hey !
GMM , thanx for the offer I think we'll be fine ,I'll let you know once we've moved in if we could use any of the stuff you've got.
WO- hello !! countdown is indeed on , just trying to get the house move out of the way and willing this LO not to make an early appearance .
About the cot - we've ordered one that fits to the side of the bed from mothercare , it's going to be back in stock on the 26 of january, it's £176.00 .we're not getting a moses basket , instead, we opted for a pram- the Silvercross Sleepover Classic- which comes with a carry cot that has a stand which we'll use initially/downstairs

Vio · 16/01/2007 15:04

HI, Everyone, Anjo, not long now..you must be very excited!!

WO- i didnt get the bedside cot but got a moses basket so will put the basket in our room probably for the first 3 mths...been thinking if it is worth getting the fisher price bath..it looks practical but i am not sure if it is as practical as it looks...

I bought the moses basket from the pram centre, its a good buy, £44.99 and they gave me a moses basket bedding and a M & P stand for free.

weeonion · 18/01/2007 17:33

hey folks - what poo weather. freezing today and hid inside all day.
we have been quiet on here - hope you all r ok

trixymalixy · 18/01/2007 22:16

Hi everybody,

was convinced that it would be sods law that i would go into labour last night as we had loads of snow outside and my TENS machine wasn't arriving till today as I couldn't make my mind up whether to buy one or not!!

No signs at all though and I'm due on Sunday.

Think my midwife said she would give me a sweep tomorrow, but not sure that I want her too. Am quite enjoying my mat leave and being able to have morning and afternoon naps!!

weeonion · 18/01/2007 22:25

hey trixy! fingers crossed for you. teh weather is meant to be a bit wooful over the next couple of days - so get ready to have the feet up and relax!

hope your sweep goes ok.. does yr hospital do it before your EDD??

trixymalixy · 18/01/2007 22:30

I thought she said she would do a sweep if I wanted next time i saw her (saw my GP last week), but it would be before my EDD. Are they not allowed to do that?

Tried out my TENS machine, nearly fell of my seat when i tried the boost setting LOL!! It feels so weird!!

weeonion · 19/01/2007 08:20

hey trixy - i know nothing about sweeps. just from reading other scary childbirth threads - it seemed that it was doen as a way to bring on labour (yeah weeonion - we know that !!) but most seemed to do when babies were days overdue. i guess this is pretty good that they are trying to get you going as close to due as possible! pls pls pls dont be worried by what i posted!

i have got my tens machine as well- bought it bt havent had the nerve to try it yet! LOL at nearly falling off chair!

lollipopz · 19/01/2007 10:11

Hey trixy so excited for you,my midwife did a sweep for me 3 days before i was due, it is good because you can find out if you are dilated any and if your cervix has softened to give you an idea of how soon you will go, i was only 1cm then, that was a wednesday and had the baby the next monday, so i do think it helped to get things going, good luck and hth x

trixymalixy · 19/01/2007 18:08

Well, my normal midwife was off sick so didn't get a sweep today, but I'm booked in for one on Thursday and possible induction the week after if that doesn't work.

Aaargh!!! how scary, can't believe I'll be a Mum in just over 2 weeks max!!

trixymalixy · 19/01/2007 18:09

The boost setting on my TENS felt like someone rubbing my back, was quite nice actually, but it really felt like someone had touched me which gave me a bit of a fright!!

weeonion · 20/01/2007 09:53

hey trixy - what did the midwife say? i know you are booked for a sweeep nxt week but any signs of movement down there?

trixymalixy · 20/01/2007 12:11

She didn't say a lot, baby's head is still only 4/5ths engaged so hasn't moved down any further than it has been for a good few weeks now despite me bouncing around on my birthing ball and crawling around on my hands and knees!!

She didn't do any kind of internal examination so don't know if cervix is starting to thin out or whatever it does. I haven't had any kind of twinges at all so think this baby is in for the long haul!!
