Loulee · 20/01/2007 17:19

Wow, are lots of you due pretty imminently?
Hope all the births go well and there are lots of happy healthy babies

  • when I was just about to have dd1 (and dd2 for that matter) the midwife reminded me what a small part the birth actually actually plays and it's really all about when the baby is here - not very well explained, but I'm sure you know what i mean. It really was one of the best bit of advice i got - though i really didn't believe her at the time!

The other was arnica - the best pain relief ever - really speeded my recovery. would highly recommend!

Anyone apart from me got MONTHS stretching ahead of them?

nicknackpaddywack · 20/01/2007 19:57

Me!! Only 9 weeks or so at the moment, and feeling like the weeks are really dragging! Agree that the birth is such a small part compared with what comes after, as we well and truely found with dd (14 months). Hoping I'll start feeling better soon and start enjoying being pregnant

Loulee · 20/01/2007 20:22

Yes dragging is the word. i have another 2 weeks to wait for my scan and it's feeling like an eternity. We still haven't really told people apart from family and things will be much easier after that

  • and when the sickness disappears...
Loulee · 20/01/2007 20:25

Nicknack, just noticed you're on the due in aug thread too.
What hospital you going to? or are you going down the homebirth route? i'm QMH Glasgow

nicknackpaddywack · 20/01/2007 21:35

I'll be at St Johns in Livingston. Homebirth would scare me too much as the first one got stuck!! St Johns was pretty good first time round - hoping it'll be the same again. Whats QMH like?

nicknackpaddywack · 20/01/2007 21:40

I'm 9 weeks now and have only told one person, my best friend. Scan is on Feb 14th. I'm sooo tempted to tell more people when I see them, but then I think about how difficult it would be if something went wrong... roll on Feb 14th, then I'll be 13 weeks and hopefully scan will show all's well!!!

TALLULAHBELLE · 21/01/2007 18:35

Hi,
Haven't been on on a while so thought I'd say hello to everyone. Now 20 weeks. Reading about all the 'stuff' everyone is buying is making me panic. I only just got around to going for maternity clothes yesterday and really I need to buy a new house before baby comes, one bedroom flat on 2nd floor not quite suitable. Hmmm think been in a bit of denial - best get skates on! Anyone else quite as unprepared as me?

Loulee · 21/01/2007 20:23

Nicknack, QMH was great both times - rather shabby round the edges, but staff were extremely supportive and there was a good atmostphere - that was with planning a homebirth 1st time and ending up with a c-section! - and section 2nd time too.
Know what you mean re; telling people, roll on the next few weeks!

TallulahB - not unprepared babywise as it is the 3rd, but also aiming to buy a new house + be settled before no3 comes along (oh and pass my driving test...) so feeling rather unprepared.
You know wee babies really don't need much - I got the bare minimum at the last minute - and all was fine. They try to sell you so much unnecessary crap - i wouldn't worry, concentrate on the house

weeonion · 22/01/2007 14:09

afternoon folks - what a lovely sunny day out there!!!

i am really pleased suis - won an amby nest on ebay! will be asking yr advice no doubt at a later stage!

trixy - how u doing? anjo - any movement sfro yu yet??

trixymalixy · 22/01/2007 17:59

Fine thanks WO.

i woke up at 6 with period type pains and got a bit overexcited that things might be starting to happen, but they have stopped now which I'm a bit disappointed about.

i might head to the supermarket later tonight to buy some pineapple and try and persuade DH that we should be trying other ,ahem, methods of getting things started .

Anjo1 · 22/01/2007 18:00

hey everyone , hope we all had lovely weekends . had a bit of disastrous one( not baby related!) - decided to visit friends in Edinburgh on Sunday, got in our newly purchased (and apparently newly serviced)car and halfway up the M8 it starts flashing the engine fault warning light and lurching everytime DP so much as touched the accelerator , so had to turn round, absolutley raging !!!all thanks to Arnold Clark !!! it's the last thing you need when you're 37 weeks pregnant and 3 days from moving house - that's just enough to cope with!
aahh rant out of the way - that's better !!
WO- no movement at the moment , baby not engaged yet , was at midwifes' last Thursday and she can still feel 3/5 of the baby's head , so looks like he/she is in no hurry , just as well as we don't have a car for the next couple of days !
GMM, VIO -you guys okay ? and Trixy hows it going ?

trixymalixy · 22/01/2007 18:03

x-posted anjo!!

that's a nightmare about your car. Will it have a guarantee as it's from Arnold Clark?

My baby's head was only 4/5ths on Friday, so you might well pop before me!!

good luck with the house move!!

Anjo1 · 22/01/2007 18:03

Trixy - good luck with the "other methods "surprised you can still manage them , , I've told DP to gear up for the long draught already

Anjo1 · 22/01/2007 18:11

*Drought , not Draught!!

Thanks trixy
called arnold clark and they started saying stuff about it still being under warranty and can be taken to a Ford dealership , but we told them seeing as we've had it for only 8 day , they should sort it out !! and they can only take it in tomorrow morning to do it ,poor DP has to get up so ealry tomorrow in order to drive at about 50 miles an hour all the way across to Linwood , and make sure to get there at 8.30.

I have'nt felt anything at all , no twinges , I have'nt even had any Braxton Hicks , so I'm not optimistic about an early appearance .

geordiemacminx · 22/01/2007 19:12

Hey ladies hope you all ok!!

Was just thinking about you Anjo, worried you might have gone early!!!

Had a bit of a disaterous weekend over here too, mainly due to the wonders of ebay.. will post about it later as gonna head downstairs to watch emmy dale!!

weeonion · 22/01/2007 19:38

evenin folks.

trixy - is there a link abetween pineapple and tried and tested rumpy methiod of getting labour underway? am i so niave?? how come i aint seen that in birthing books??

anjo - maybe yr LO is justgonna take its time. bad news on the car front - i hate the bloody things really. i think at times liek thse tho' you realsie how much you depend on them and also how vulnerable you are/ would be if stranded with a wee one in tow. hope dp is ok for the morning!

GMM - ebay nightmare?? tell us yr news?? i bloody hate it now. all i seem to get is folks who dont send and if they do - it isnt as desribed but taken the plunge yet again and bought the amby nest.

geordiemacminx · 22/01/2007 21:02

I'm back.. with my ice cream...

Well we bought a sofa bed from a guy in Bathgate, had to hire a van to go and get it, everything was fine, found his house etc, dp was reversing up the street, stupid prick standing there waving him on.. douch straight into a wall.. "ooops sorry mate I didnt know you were watching me"... I thought dp was going to punch him... £400 excess on the van, so we still waiting to hear back..

Sold bunk beds last week, woman text to say that she would come accross from Paisley, leave around 9.30 on Sunday morning... 11.30 she turns up, after I had to treck out to find her.. in a bloody renault laguna.. for bunk beds.. how thick??? Anyways they eventually got them in.. but all in all the hassle that it caused I wish I had slung the whole lot over the fence, ordered a sofa bed from argos and got it delivered... never mind its all sorted now... all the other junk that we have cleared out is going to the tip!!! Unless anyone wants 2 pine coloured bedside tables??

weeonion · 22/01/2007 21:21

hmmmmmmmmmmmm - pine bedside tables????????

trixymalixy · 22/01/2007 21:29

GMM ,what a nightmare!!

WO, PMSL imagining your mind working overtime as what the link could be !!!

No link as far as I know anyway!!

I didn't mean to insinuate I would be trying both methods at the same time!!

suis · 23/01/2007 00:11

I've now got a very very odd picture in my head involving DP and pineapple rings... it might work though, I'm told laughing hard can get you started too !

trixymalixy · 23/01/2007 09:22

well didn't manage to try either method last night individually or at the same time, but looks like I might not be a bump north of the border much longer!!

Have been having very irregular contractions since about midnight last night. At about 2 in the morning they were every 15 mins. I turned onto my right hand side so I could see the alarm clock a bit better and they slowed right down to about 1 an hour so managed to sleep for most of the night.

Had a show this morning and the odd contraction, but they're not as strong as they were.

I'm just not sure at what point to call the hospital as think this must be pre-labour?

geordiemacminx · 23/01/2007 09:47

Ooooh good luck trixy!!!

Would probably do no harm to ring them now I suppose.... just in case?

Is dp around?

trixymalixy · 23/01/2007 11:45

Thanks GMM!!

I haven't phoned them yet as have only really had twinges every so often today so think i was maybe getting a wee bit over excited!!

DH is at work today, but he is literally 3 mins drive away and has 4 contact nos in case things really get started!!!

geordiemacminx · 23/01/2007 11:47

Sounds like you are pretty organised!!!

Is it QM that you are going to?

trixymalixy · 23/01/2007 12:34

No, going to the PRM.
