Loulee · 08/02/2007 21:51

Thanks Tallulah, I'm going to call them tomorrow - so will let you know how I get on.
Re: yoga - yeah, we should def say hi - but i might not know which pregnant woman you are! could mumble "mumsnet TallulahBelle" to different women in the class, but i might start up all sorts!

weeonion · 08/02/2007 22:36

loulee - lol at the idea of you going round mumbling "tulla mumsnet"! one way to create an impression!

it is pretty awful the way there seems to be no consistency and standard to what we all get. i thnk there is a sense that we can pretty much be left on our own with it all.

my gp has no midwife so instead of going to see him for my antenatal appts ( he is bloody clueless about everything!) i opted to go direct to th hospital for all my appts. glad i did. despite huge queues and lonnnnng waits - has been ok. at leadt i have known where i am meant to go to see the midwife and not have to wait til 28 weeks!!!!!!!!!

hope you manage to get it sorted. xooxox

BEGEMOTH · 09/02/2007 09:44

Tallulahbelle and Loulee

Sounds like a right mess. Sorry you are getting messed around so much.

Maryhill seems to have a big MW section on the 1st floor. I'm not sure if all the MWs there work at the QMH as well, although some of them were there on the hospital visit.

Woodside is enormous so maybe they have different MWs assigned to different doctors surgeries on different days. I'm with Fitzsimmons and the MW is there on a Thursday. She comes from the Maryhill Centre to Woodside for the day. And unlike when I make a doc app, I can get an appointment with her in advance, which is nice.

Loulee · 09/02/2007 09:50

TallulahB - omg how complicated is woodside health centre!! It depends which day of the week and which doctor you have. Different practises seem to rent the centre on different days of the week - so I can only phone on a Wednesday if I want to attempt to register with one of the doctors the QM has recommended - and even then the receptionist i spoke to, didn't know if there were midwifes at the practise - or whether the doctors I mentioned were male or female....so will give it a go next week (that is attempting to speak to someone!)

Loulee · 09/02/2007 09:52

begemouth - that sounds sort of normal - you have given me a glimmer of hope!

Loulee · 09/02/2007 19:19

sorry begemoth - keep getting your name wrong. must say begemoth is much nicer!!

weeonion · 09/02/2007 19:35

anjo - where are you babe? you are due in 2 days i think but there mention of a sweep beforehand? has it happened and what is going on the great countdown! cant wait to see a pic of the wee one!

trixy and midnight!! how you both doing??

TALLULAHBELLE · 10/02/2007 15:24

Can't believe how confusing the system is. Think I will wait till see m/w at Maryhill then find out there who visits Woodside and arrange directly with the m/w. It is a complete mess.

Think will also look for new doc soon as can you imagine how complicated it could be trying to find out where to go with a sick infant, let alone finding someone who will come out in those circumstances.

On happier note - will try to wear something distinctive to yoga and let you know so you can recognise me. Maybe a pink carnation behind one ear

Vio · 11/02/2007 16:57

hiya, how's everyone doing. hope you are all well. yes, anjo, how are you? we can't wait to see your wee baby!

trixymalixy · 11/02/2007 17:46

Hi guys,

not doing so great, have a really badly cracked left nipple and can't bear DS feeding from that side. Everything you read about breastfeeding says that if it's sore then your latch isn't right, but I've had both the MW and HV sit through feeds and they say everything looks fine, but it can't be as things are getting worse!!

Tried [shock horror!!] nipple shields this morning and it made such a big difference and then Ds fed fine from the other side so hopefully won't have confused him too much. It must be better than giving up BF altogether.

HV want's me to go and see my GP re possible PND as I just cried the whole time she was here the other day. I just feel that if I could get the BF more sorted then everything would seem so much brighter.

WO I know you're keen to meet up, but just bear with me for the moment as getting out of the house seems such a big step at the moment!!

Anjo, this is your due date isn't it? Hope things are well with you!

Anjo1 · 11/02/2007 19:31

hi everyone ,
Trixy - sorry to hear things aren't going so well right now , hang on in there and hopefully it will all get better - sending you loads of (((hugs ))))
unfortunatley for me, nothing is happening yet , not a sign of the wee one making an appearance soon , I'm in to see the MW on Wednesday if baby is not here still , and for my valentine's present apparently i might get a sweep (eurgh) I hate having my smear done , so doubt very much I will like this , I'll maybe ask her to hold it until the baby is a week past the EDD , if it comes to that.
hopefully things start moving along soon , anyone got any suggestions for what might work? already tried pineapple , sex ,bouncing on my Gym ball - all to no avail
help !!!

Loulee · 11/02/2007 20:25

Poor you trixy, the early weeks of bfeeding can really be the pits. I had cracked bleeding nipples with dd1 (and again with dd2 in spite of having fed dd1 for over a year) - like you the mw would sit and watch and say i was doing it right, but it was still f-ing sore - and bleeding. And with dd2 i knew i was doing it right and it still happened. If you can stick through it, one day it just suddenly becomes easy and you don't have that wincing/hold your breath moment when they latch on. I never tried the shields, but the simple creams seemed to help. Mine was getting worse at nighttime i think as i was feeding lying down and I'd doze, then baby's latch would change / she'd start chewing, i wouldn't notice...

my friend used the nct breastfeeding helpline and said it was a godsend. Here's the link
It's all run by people who have been through the same sort of problems.

Don't know much about pnd, but I know the early weeks are pretty weird anyway. Esp. with dd1, I was very weepy - dp even sending visitors away at one point cos i was crying and didn't think i could deal with anyone - oh and I didn't leave the house for weeks. So, I suppose what i'm trying to say is it can be tough, and it WILL get easier - and take any support/help offered.

Loulee xx

trixymalixy · 11/02/2007 22:20

Thanks guys. Have to say that i don't know how single parents get through the first few weeks on their own. It must be so hard. DH has been so good, he stayed up pretty much the whole night with DS last night to let me get a bit more sleep. God knows how I'll cope when he goes back to work.

Anjo, have you tried nipple stimulation? I did a bit of that and the next day started having period type pains and the next day was definitely in labour.

The MW gave me a sweep after she had examined me to see how dilated I was, just to speed things up a bit. It was fine, didn't hurt at all.

You get so used to people looking at your fanjo, boobs, bum after you've had a baby, smear tests'll seem a doddle!

midnightexpress · 12/02/2007 11:15

Hi Trixy - hope things are OK with you - just wanted to second everything that Loulee said. I gave up on bf with ds1 after a couple of months of complete misery. So far much better with ds2, though had a couple of weeks of agony, and like you the mws kept telling me that he was latching on fine, so perhaps just sensitive nips, i think! Still a bit toe-curling for first few moments, but at least not now yelping with the pain. mw recommended lansinoh, and it did help, so give it a try if you havent already.
And a million people will say it, but it does get better and easier. i remember going in despair to bf workshop with ds1 at about 6wks and one of the other mums gazing at her baby and saying that she couldnt beieve it could get any better and me sitting there thinking "bl**dy hell it had better get better than this". and it did. though ds1 seems to have done something to the keyboard - no apostrophes for some reason....
anyway, big to you.

LieselVentouse · 12/02/2007 11:30

Can I have some advice please. Georgediemac vfery kindly gave me a site last week for private scans, unfortunately they no longer have a clinic in Glasgow. Did anybody else get a private scan and if so, where?
TIA

geordiemacminx · 12/02/2007 11:55

The Nuffield hospital on the great western road do them, otherwise the only other place is Livvy - but they really are good there!!

LieselVentouse · 12/02/2007 16:50

Thanks Geordiemac. Nuffield were blooming useless I dont see why I should pay 250 bucks to be told my child is healthy and its a boy/girl and then have to justify my reasons Isnt it shocking that people in Glasgow dont have this facility.

geordiemacminx · 12/02/2007 18:08

The sexing scan at livvy is £75

Vio · 12/02/2007 19:24

hi trixy. hope things will get better.
Anjo, thinking of you!..hope your wee one will make an appearance soon!

Yes, it's shocking that in glasgow we dont get the 20wks detailed scan..

weeonion · 13/02/2007 08:14

TALLULAHBELLE · 13/02/2007 10:20

Anjo - have you tried bouncing on the ball whilst having sex and eating a pineapple at the same time?

Loulee · 13/02/2007 10:41

OOh, I'd forgotten about the ball - don't know if I dare get it out though - dd1 and dd2 may fight me over it!!
Tallulah- you've just reminded me, I must try and find a doctor - completely forgot - oops!

Anjo1 · 13/02/2007 18:06

( yay! finally have broadband back )
Tallulah -LOL at the mental image that suggestion conjured up!!!
Trixy - how are you doing ? and WO ?
I'm still here , got a bit excited this morning around 4-5 am woke up with what felt like period pain but it went away after a while and still no sign , walked all the way into Hamilton Town center today ( about 30 minutes) and stayed on my feet shopping for a further hour , who knows , might help. Have the MW tomorrow morning , see waht she says .
Vio -Hope you enjoy the classes , Not sure if they are set up the same as the ones we went to , but I found the Physiotherapist's part really usefull , loads of practical advice for labour .
GMM - hows it going ?
hope everyone is doing well
xx

geordiemacminx · 13/02/2007 18:13

I was in there yesterday... wee trip to Marks for some nice Valentines food!!!

Cant BELIEVE you havent dropped yet babes... I think he/she must be very cosy in there and has deceided to stay put!!!

Have you got all your boxes unpacked yet?

Anjo1 · 13/02/2007 18:27

GMM-mmm..marks and sparks food - yummy!
most of the boxes are unpacked , the baby's room is finished and it's mostly things that we're waiting for that have'nt been done yet -new blinds ordered , sofa still to be delivered , that sort of thing. but it's livable .
yeah I think bubs is just a bit TOO !! cosy in there , see ,the last time I saw you guys at Christmas I did'nt think I could get any bigger but I am huge!! so huge in fact that some stupid Ned in town today thought it was okay to point the fact out to his friend ( "look at the size o' her !!") and then had the cheek to turn round and say to me "you look like you're about to pop!!heh !!" I tell you if looks alone could kill , he would be so dead!!
you must be looking forward to your wee trip to Barcelona - so jealous !!
How are you coping with your bump?
