Vio,

I was having itchy skin across my bump in evenings. Tried various moisturisers which all made it itchier. Now I am slathering on vaseline - bit slimy but no more itching, and cheap as chips too!

weeonion · 04/02/2007 18:00

trixy - thanks for the top tips. i have my bag packed and have everything but the kitchen sink in it (only 29 weeks but it made it all seem more real!!)- but hadnt put a spare jug in. good idea!

i have bought pjs but they are black and navy so stains dont show! also - dark slippers for the same reason! i even have bags of dried fruit and snacks in there! i also have it packed with mat pads etc so will be abale to whip them out. i was wondering about clothes for newv=biw tho - have a few at the ready but i guess dp can bring in more.

mrs mcjnr =- i went to healthcare now on staffiord street edinburgh for nuchal. pity was dp works in glasgow so couldnt make it through as it is a 9-5pm place. it was £195. had my 20 week £200 anamoly scan at nuffield on a wednesday night with dr owen - he was lovely but our cds with the pics dont work.
i guess it is what is handy for you. i have nmet other s who didnt pay for the 20 week and kinda regret it now. i am glad i did - i have been a bit anxious throughout and it helped settle my mind but also - it made it all a bit more real. dp found it really focused him as well!

trixymalixy · 04/02/2007 19:06

WO, is it not a DVD from the nuffield rather than a CD? Ours works in our DVD player, but didn't work in most laptops we tried.

My hospital bag was so packed full that DH couldn't find anything in it. I wished I had made him more aware of where everything was both in my hospital bag and when we got home. Although saying that he can never find anything even though I have told him its exact location down to the last millimeter .

I suffered from axiety during my pregnancy too WO, which was why I paid for a 20 week scan. It has got a lot worse post natally i.e. 2 hour panic attack at 4am because DH forgot to put the cat net back on the moses basket. I'm starting to feel a bit more chilled now, but had a pretty horrible first week.

midnightexpress · 04/02/2007 19:43

Hi MrsMcJnr and welcome to the thread. Not sure how old you are, and far too polite to ask , but it might be worth asking your midwife about the possibility of 20 week scan. I didn't with ds1, and didn't get one, but did with ds2 and got one, and I know others who have done the same. Stamp your feet a bit and see how you get on.

Re hospital bag, I took huge amount of stuff first time and with second it dawned on me that dp was coming in at least once a day anyway so could always get him to bring things in, so I packed another bag of baby clothes, nappies etc and managed to travel light (for first time ever). I probably wouldn't bother with 'daytime clothes' except for coming home - everyone on my ward just seemed to stay in their jimjams.

Also, depressingly, take clothes that are big enough! I bought new nighties for after ds1 and then couldn't get them on so ended up sending dp out to buy more for me. He turned up with a nightshirt with an enormous picture of Eeyore on it! I bought my own in advance 2nd time around....

weeonion · 04/02/2007 20:20

trixy - u r right. we got 2 from nuffield - a cd with some 3d pics and a dvd. the dvd doesnt work on anything - well - it worked on one persons playstation. a bit disappointed but figured that the most impportant thing was that LO was ok and didnt want to put her through a needless scan.

anixiety has been the pits. sorry to hear it has lasted for a while for you - i guess once things settle more it'll be ok??? let me kno when you feel up to meeting up? xoxoxoxoxoxoox

midnight express - u r right baout travellin glight but i know what dp is like. he really do shave the worst memory. i tell him what we are doing and in 10 mins it is gone. we have lived in this flat for nealy 3 year s- he still cant remember where we keep spare keys. yesterday he called into hmv, forgot i was waiting outside and was heading home on bus when i rang to find out where the hell he was. sure i feel confident to let him out with a baby?? if i was to leave it to him to get my coming home clothes - i would probably get a bag with some cds, a tin of soup and a pair of tights.

i have made sure all my post labour pjs are big - still in maternity sizes - i know its gonna take a while to shrink!

Loulee · 04/02/2007 21:47

I'd agree with midnightexpr re: not taking too much esp with dp coming in every day. The best was him bringing in takeout cappucinos and deli food. (I was in 6 days as I remember)
But a couple of things I wish I'd taken first time round were:
nice juice, facial wipes, lip balm and that I'd washed the brand new baby clothes - I hadn't and didn't realise they have so many chemicals in them - poor dd1 was one big blotch for the first few days of her wee life as a result
oh and take some magazines - baby sleeps a lot to start and you might not want to

Midnightexpress - how you getting on with no.2 btw? Hope all going well. How's dc1 adapting?

suis · 05/02/2007 01:03

Ja9 - I do indeed have the gold team. They all seem like sympathetic, knowledgeable people... to the point where DP reckons I should "just do whatever they tell you, they know best". Personally, I wouldn't go that far, but they do give me a good feeling of reassurance.

Hope your HB works out for you... I presume that if you are in Stirling it's not far to pop in the hosp if needs be (will be a different story when it all goes it Falkirk !) And I know what you mean about just wanting it out. I know I still have a week to my EDD, but each day is really starting to drag now. I am nervous about the getting it out part, but I'm really pretty hacked off with the pregnancy bit now.

Vio · 05/02/2007 01:31

Hi, everyone!

Trixy, thanks for posting your top tips!! found it very helpful. I was thinking about packing my hopsital bag, ( am 29weeks) so thought its about time to make a list..glad that you posted.

WO- you are indeed a super organised person, cant believe you have already packed your bag!! i am currently not working and i haven't packed my bag yet.. i have just been lazy..!!!..

Mrsmcjnr-like most of them posted here, i have the 20wks scan done at nuffield in glasgow. same doctor as WO-Dr.Owen, hes very good.

Tallulahelle-thanks for sharing...i dont know why i only get itchy at night..will try vaseline.

So, do you think its wise to pack 2 or 3 bags? i was reading ( ready, steady, baby, the book from NHS)..it suggests that packing 2 or 3 bags is probably a better idea. i.e. one for labour, one for the baby, one for going home? i guess i can get my DH to bring them in since he will be coming to the hospital everyday?? what do you all think? So, trixy, after the birth, how many days did you stay in PRM?

midnightexpress · 05/02/2007 10:54

Thanks Loulee - all going fine, though DS2 not much of a sleeper at the moment. Up till 2 last night, then again at 3 and at 5.30. Advantage to having 2 so close together is that I remember how quickly each phase passes so no need to feel suicidal (though was threatening him with a bottle of Aptamil at about 2.30 this morning!). BF going much better this time round and he's the sweetest little thing. Big bro taking it all manfully, and his normal cheerful self, though has decided that 5.10am is best time for getting up in the morning, bless him.

How's the pg going? Have you startyed yoga yet? I misssssss it, really looking forward to being able to stretch again soon.

WO - dp sounds like a desperate case. Hope lo won't be the type to hide the spare keys in a year or so (like mine) or you'll be in big trouble .

LieselVentouse · 05/02/2007 11:24

I would definetly pack a coming home outfit. I asked DH to bring me black trousers (size 16 elasticated) and they were at the end of wardrobe. Okay I didnt say which side of wardrobe and he took the ones from the wrong side (size 10 black evening wear) I had to wait another hour to get home

geordiemacminx · 05/02/2007 11:35

My dp has abolutely no idea when it comes to putting outfits togther... I am planning on making a crib sheet whilst on maternity of all the baby outfits so that he knows what to put together...certainly wouldnt trust him to pick clothes for me!!! I'd end up going home in heels and a dressing gown!!

midnightexpress · 05/02/2007 12:10

Could be a rather stylish departure from the maternity ward, GMCM!

Loulee · 05/02/2007 15:12

Hello ladies
Midnightexpress - no yoga yet - cos it's 6 week blocks I have to wait til end of feb to start - can't wait
Night wakings with a newborn are exhausting aren't they - makes me remember that I'm lucky at the moment! dd2 is only waking once at around 5/5.30 but dp is going in with her and i don't let her see me before 6. It's the milk you see - i have a paranoia that if i give in and feed her at 5, then she'll wake at 5 from then on. Am really trying to phase out the feeding, but it's taking a while...
my ms now subsiding and I have my scan at long last tomorrow so will be relieved when all that is over.
LOL at all the going home outfit stories - has got me thinking already - and I've got about 5/6 months to go!!

Vio · 05/02/2007 15:37

midnightexpress-how old is your 1st boy? I would want to have 2 children and would want them to grow up together like me and my older sister...we are not just sisters , we are best friends!

trixymalixy · 05/02/2007 18:57

Vio, I was in the PRM for 2 nights. Annoyingly DS was born at 12.29, had he been born before 12 I would have been allowed out a day earlier. It was long enough for me, I would have probably have discharged myself had they not let me out!!

Oh and the other thing i meant to say is to make sure and read the car seat instructions yourself beforehand. It was the one thing I asked DH to do and of course he didn't. Cue massive row and an absolute panic from me that he hadn't put the seat in correctly.

Am that you got a cd with photos on as well WO, we only got a DVD and have never managed to get stills from it. I resorted to taking photographs of the TV to e-mail to my friends!!

These sleepless nights are an absolute killer! DS is nocturnal and is wide awake from 4 till 7.30 every night and then sleeps until 12.30!! If only he would do things the other way round!!

Anjo1 · 06/02/2007 15:30

hello everyone ! wow so much has gone on!!
Conrats Trixy and Midnightexpress
In our new house now , just managed to hook up onto the internet on dial up - still waiting for the idiots to transfer the broadband
bump still firmly attached with no sign of going anywhere (due in 5days ) went to the midwife's last Thursday and she palpated my belly as usual said everything was fine, got home and went for a pee a few ours later and there was blood on the tissue .. this happened a few times and as it was fresh blood i called the ward at about 11 pm and the midwife insisted it was my show starting to come away ( did'nt believe her and still think she was wrong as the blood did'nt seem to be coming from my 'baby exit bits' , but more from my 'waterworks' iykwim) but it went away the next morning and there's been no sign of any movement yet , ate an entire pineapple for lunch today and might be lining up other, aherm , measures tonight , I've got an appointment next wednesday if baby is still not here , there'll offer to do a sweep apparently - not too keen , might have to ask them to hold it for a few more days .
WO check your organised self out!!!, I'm still adding things to my bag LOL!!
GMM - when are you off to Barcelona ? have fun !!hope all you ladies are keeping well xxxx

weeonion · 06/02/2007 15:42

anjo - great to hear from you - i was wondering if you had gone early! glad you have got moved in ok - are you feeling settled yet??
5 days and counting! how are you feeling about it - excited? nervous???? how is dp about it too??

geordiemacminx · 06/02/2007 15:48

Good to hear from you anjo... thought we might have had a baby anjo by now!!!

Off to Barca on the 18th, so a week on Sunday..

Hope everything is going ok in the new house!!

Anjo1 · 06/02/2007 16:10

New house is lovely, still sorting out a few things , think it will take a while to feel settled , baby's room is finished though and it's lovely
very excited about the baby coming , DP can't wait either, just fingers crossed it all goes smoothly , really really hoping labour starts on it's own as feel strongly against being induced .

Vio · 06/02/2007 17:41

Hi Anjo, welcome back! you are due in 5 days!!!!! how are you feeling?? excited??? nervous?? have been thinking about you!!

Loulee · 07/02/2007 21:13

Hi Ladies, hope everyones well must surely be some new babies pretty soon??

At last have had my scan and am now due in July, not august - just a few days difference, but makes it seem much closer! Cos of c'section, we can even predict the date - 23rd july - very strange!

Tallulabelle, if you're about - I'm now having similar problems to you - can't f*ing believe it and am going to have to change doctors in order to get midwife care. Am rather concerned though as QMH have suggested changing to Woodside health centre! - how bizarre is that? They seem to think there are midwives there every wednesday and it's a reliable practise....
can you enlighten me? I'm totally confused

TALLULAHBELLE · 07/02/2007 21:21

Loulee - where you are and what yoga class are you going to go to? I started one at Balance in Glasgow, 6 week course and have signed up to do it again at end Feb.Just wondering if it's the same class?

Loulee · 08/02/2007 11:24

TallulahB - yes it is! I'm starting at the next one - around 24th feb - so I guess i will see you there!
I went to the pregnancy classes there last time and really loved it. Have desperately been missing yoga since finding out I'm pg, so can't wait to start again.
BTW, did you change from woodside health centre? I'm unsure what to do...

TALLULAHBELLE · 08/02/2007 20:29

Finally, after being passed from pillar to post a couple more times now have appt to see m/w at Maryhill - in 5 weeks time. I will be 28 weeks by time get to meet my m/w. So much for community care . Dread to think what would have happened if had had any real probs with my pregnancy. Would have had nowhere to turn. Will look out for you at yoga at end of month. I really have enjoyed the class so far.

TALLULAHBELLE · 08/02/2007 20:38

P.S. Meant to say, I was also told at QMH, many moons ago, that Woodside midwives would be the ones I would see. When tried to make appt was when I was told had to go to Possil. When spoke to hosp last week they said my GP not in the scheme. All very confusing not sure if no midwives or just only available to certain select patients! Though can't understand why then allowed to go to Maryhill when I have no connetion there at all. Sorry is clear as mud, but would be very interseted to know if you get to see the midwife team at Woodside. I will spit chips if they have been there all along after the runaround I have been given!
