TALLULAHBELLE · 24/01/2007 19:58

Anyone in Glasgow having/had similar probs to me? Had my first m/w appt yesterday (at 20 weeks). My Gp is at Woodsise Health Centre but I had to go to Possil for the appt. The m/w who was absolutely lovely, is attached to the Princess Royal but I'm booked at Queen Mum's. She said that she could see me for routine check ups but wouldn't be able to give any hospital support or follow up home visits. For sake of continuity of care she did her very best to find out why I wasn't being seen at my own health centre, i only live a few streets away after all and the Possil Clinic is very hard for me to get to (can't drive). After numerous phone calls which got us nowhere the only suggestion is to try yet another Health Centre (Maryhill) and see if they will take me on.
Anyway, what I want to know is whether is better to stick to this m/w knowing will not see her during or after birth or should I try and find yet another m/w who will see me through the lot? Anyone able to recommend Maryhill H/C ?

Loulee · 24/01/2007 22:23

TallulahBelle, I'd swap to the midwives attached to the qmh if i were you. I'm local to you and booked in at qmh (it's going to be my 3rd). I've found the local midwives great and aftercare / continuity pretty good too.

Funnily enough, I was sent to north woodside (not that far from me) in my last pregnancy but had been spoilt in my 1st pregnancy with home visits (planning home birth you see) - so wanted the same during the 2nd pregnancy so i could see same midwives- it was SO complicated, often i ended up not going at all . All a bit hazy now even though it wasn't that long ago...
The woodside area seems tricky because a lot of doctors surgeries no longer have the midwives based there.

Anyhow, i hope that makes sense. My sil was in a similar position to you on the south side and was seeing midwives from princess royal during pregnancy but aftercare was with midwives from east renfrew - she seemed to get double visits (not so good when they're all saying different things!)

Quick question for a friend... has anyone had and early / dating scan privately in Glasgow ? If so, whereabouts and what did it cost.

I have a friend who is still quite early on, but not getting her first scan till gone 14 weeks and was wondering about having an early private scan just for reassurance.

geordiemacminx · 25/01/2007 08:47

The only private scan I had was at 20 weeks. Not too sure about dating scans, the best place would probabaly be the Nuffield hospital on the Great Western Road.. there is also a babyscanning.co.uk in Glasgow, although I'm not sure whether they do early scans or not?

Anjo1 · 25/01/2007 11:08

hey everyone !! hope you're all well
Trixy-hope all is going well
I've been running around like a headless chicken these past couple of days packing up this flat - a bit anxious as well as the lawyers were still playing their power games , but we won and DP is over at the lawyer's getting cheques organised and we are definitley moving today , yay!! so knackered though from all the cleaning i've been doing . just willing the baby not to come anytime in the next couple of days cause everything is so chaotic.
I might not be able to get online for a wee while as the broadband will take a few days to transfer,so hope everyone keeps well XX

weeonion · 25/01/2007 11:50

anjo - hey babe - hope everything does smoothly xox
no word from trixy - do we think this means a bubba is underway?
re dating scans - i think nuffield do them - not sure of the costs but healthcare now in edinburgh do them as well

sorry tullah - i am booked at PRM and have went with all my mw appts there. my gp doesnt have midwives so it was go to the hospital or only see him through pg. went with hospital option as i thought this meant a cahcne to build a realtionship with htem in pg for labour etc. hope it goes ok for you.

geordiemacminx · 25/01/2007 11:54

Hi everyone,

Benjamin james was born at 12.29pm on the 24th of january and was 6lbs 10oz.

The birth was much better than i could have hoped for. I had no pain relief apart from being in the birthing pool and overdosing on gas and air (gas and air is fab by the way!!), which was the way i wanted it. I managed to just avoid an episiotomy, but did tear a bit. But i got the completely intervention free birth i would have wanted had I actually made a birth plan.

ben is fab and has absolutely masses of black hair, which is so cute!!

The midwives at the PRM were absolutley fantastic and I would really recommend going to the MBU rather than the labour ward and using the birthing pool if it's free.

I hated being in the hospital afterwards though, nothing to do with the PRM, it was just so noisy being on a ward with lots of newborn babies that i dont think I slept for more than about 10 mins.

Loulee · 26/01/2007 18:23

Congratulations Trixy, what wonderful news! and so nice to hear you got the birth you wanted. LL xx

weeonion · 26/01/2007 18:26

oh trixy -

we thought something was up when you hadnt been on!
i am so pleased for you. it all seems to have been fab and just what you wanted. a new little babby ben around. this is teh nicest news i have heard all week!

really good as well that the PRM came through well. i would love the midwife unit but i am not sure who is allowed to use it??

would love to meeet up with you whenever i am off on mat leave and you feel up to it.

weeonion · 26/01/2007 18:31

trixy - any pics to post yet for us to ooh and aah over??

suis · 27/01/2007 00:03

Geordie... babybong sounds much more interesting LOL. Will pass the info on.

WO - for your list I'm due Feb 11th so just over 2 weeks to go, although I am quite convinced it's not going to get that far. I'm measuring a wee bit big, v sore and large breasty bits, 3/5 engaged and generally aching all over. If this bump drops any further I swear it's going be dangling round my knees somewhere. Plus my nesting instinct has gone crazy. I've had a lot of insomnia and restless leg so I'm becoming nocturnal anyway, but I was up cleaning the kitchen at 4am the other night, and right now I'm waiting on paint to dry so I can get on with stencilling the blind for the nursery !! I really must do some sleeping at some point !

midnightexpress · 27/01/2007 12:48

Hi all

Sorry haven't been in touch, but the baby decided to come a day early and the rest has been a bit of a blur. Anyway, we've had a wee boy, probably called Jacob (we just can't decide what he looks like). HIDEOUS delivery, eventually by C-section but only once I was fully dilated and desperate to push (try holding still for a spinal during a contraction while 10cms dilated - don't recommend it for Friday night fun), and then spent about 2 hours in surgery while they tried to get me sewn up again, so all a bit traumatic, but all worth it for the end result, 6lb 13oz of loveliness.

Hope you and your bumps and babies are all doing OK.

Vio · 27/01/2007 17:22

hi ! many congratulations to trixy and midnightexpress! hope are you are both doing good!

Glad to hear trixy saying that PRM is good.

hi, GMM and WO- are you both doing good, i am doing well, bought nearly everything we need...( Martin is getting v.excited..he keeps buying stuff for the wee man).
My antenatal class starts on ..err... i think 13 Feb, in Muirhead clinic...looking forward to it...i think there is a class in PRM as well nd they show you the birth unit etc..

Martin has bought me a TOMTOM so i feel more comfortable with driving now..:O)

Anjo, hope everything goes well, stay in touch pls!

Dont know if we will have another gathering before the birth but I keep thinking that we must have a gathering when all our babies arrive...that would be lovely!

Vio · 27/01/2007 18:07

hi WO- read the April thread and learned that you didn't have a good week. you feeling better now??

Actually, i never really asked many questions when i saw my MW, she didn't really tell me much and i didn't know what sorts of questions to ask i suppose...but i must say that apart from getting bigger..i feel fine and also can feel the baby's movement so i suppose everythings fine..I did ask her if everythings okay and she said yes so i suppose everythings fine then.
So, is the baby supposed to be head down by now? i will hv my appointment on Mon, maybe i should ask my MW then.

GMM- sure you'll love the 4D Scan...)

want to ask if anyone of you bought a glider chair cos i am thinking of getting one but not sure if buy it from the Pram centre or off the internet, theres a website called mums2b?? or sthing like that , its a lot cheaper than the pram centre but i am not sure if i should trust them...anyone bought anything from this website?

Loulee · 27/01/2007 20:37

Midnightexpress - how wonderful! congratulations! Hope you're feeling ok and not too sore. I'm sure you'll be back at those yoga classes in no time - even if only to have a rest!!
I had sections so know a bit how you're feeling - was quite concerned they took 2 hours to sew you up - hope it wasn't too serious...
If you're not taking it, I'd highly recommend taking high strength arnica to speed up healing. i found it really helped.
Keep us posted! xx

TALLULAHBELLE · 28/01/2007 09:55

Congrats to Trixy and Midnight. Lovely news.

leahsmum · 28/01/2007 22:39

hi folks just found this thread! Alright to join?

Just scanned down last couple of posts - BIG CONGRATULATIONS to all the new mummies out there!!!!

I live in Ayrshire and am due on 14 Feb.

Any other Ayrshire folks on here? If so have they any info on the new maternity unit? I had my dd in Ayrshire Central but will be having this Lo in the new unit but apparently they dont offer tours because of security and was just wondering how good the new facilities are. I've heard a lot of people complaining about it.

trixymalixy · 29/01/2007 08:29

Hi Leahsmum!! The more the merrier.

Congrats midnightexpress, sorry your labour experience was so hideous, but it's over now and it is worth it when you are holding your LO.

Saying that though this being a Mum business isn't that easy!!

Have just had another night of absolutely no sleep. Partly due to the trauma of my first poo (was so much worse than I thought it would be), then wee Ben doing his usual and wanting to feed every half hour. He finally went to sleep at 6, but I have been blowing into a paper bag for the past couple of hours, as had a major panic attack set off by DH making a fuss about putting the cat net back on the cot. I guess that's the baby blues setting in then!!

WO, would love to meet up at some point when I feel up to it, alhough at the moment it feels like that won't be until ben is 18!

have posted a picture of him on my profile for you to coo over!!

midnightexpress · 29/01/2007 08:36

Thanks for the Arnica tip Loulee - will definitely follow it up as looking a bit battered after all the surgery, from what I can see so far (not that much, to be honest. Definitely not one of those who's back in her jeans a week after giving birth. Hey ho). All worth it though, of course. J a wee star - super-cute and even sleeps a bit most nights.
