Cannabis whilst pregnant!

As if I have just been to the shops for some late night snacks (feeling ravenous) and there is a lady outside the shop with a man, she is quite heavily pregnant and clearly smoking a joint of cannabis! Im really angry! To think of the people who miscarry or cannot concieve! I feel sick to my stomach, rotten!

Oh and while I'm here, that big rant from Charis is all about confusing correlation with causation. Just because weed smokers are often low achievers educationally/have mental problems etc etc does not mean that the latter caused the former. Just as likely, if not more likely, that its the other way around. As above, all the sensible clever people I know smoked pot and did fine. All the drop outs and people with issues I know who smoked did not do fine. This would likely have been the exact same outcome if you take the cannabis out of the equation all together.

MrsCs · 24/04/2015 09:47

In all honesty I don't care what is going on in that women's life. When pregnant I didn't drink, I've never smoked anyway and I followed all dietary advice. I may have total autonomy over my own body pregnant or not but I used it to provide the best chances for my unborn child. In my opinion (happy to be called judgmental or whatever) that immediately makes me a better parent than someone risking ingesting harmful substances.

There are people in this country who treat their pets better than their unborn children. Frightening

madreloco · 24/04/2015 10:01

If you don't care whats going on in her life what do you care what goes on in her uterus? What business is it of yours?

MrsCs · 24/04/2015 10:27

Because, madre, there is a child in there who did not ask to be conceived then selfishly harmed. I have no regard for the mother harming herself, she has autonomy, however that child does not and is reliant on her to facilitate it's nutrition and development.

Only1scoop · 24/04/2015 10:34

I get where you are coming from Op.

I remember being led by a nurse from scan room dumbstruck after being told had MMC 17 weeks....she had to take me to another department through a door outside. There stood a heavily pregnant woman smoking.

The nurse just looked at me and said it made her feel like screaming and shouting as it's just not fair at all.

It's awful.

I'd have been disgusted also

SunnyBaudelaire · 24/04/2015 10:43

" Fact - using cannabis in pregnancy or around a baby causes damage to the central nervous system " .

so Charis, could you link us to the empirical study that you gleaned that 'fact' from?
no I thought not.

madreloco · 24/04/2015 10:49

Foetus, not child. And whats it to you? There are billions of children in the world, you don't pretend to care about all of them, why this one?
Her body, her choice, her business. Not yours.

laurenlhthompson · 24/04/2015 10:52

Charis can't back up anything she has said....

MrsCs · 24/04/2015 11:45

Actually madre, the rights of children on the whole do concern me, sad they don't interest you

Coyoacan · 24/04/2015 13:36

MrsC Good for you, but there are millions of things that go into being a good parent and it is a marathon, not a sprint.

As for smoking tobacco during pregnancy, my mother must have smoked a packet a day during her pregnancies and her three children are all well into our sixties without any health problems to speak of and certainly no development damage as my brother and sister are leading intellectuals in their field.

And no, I am not advocating risky behaviour during pregnancy, only a bit more solidarity with other women.

madreloco · 24/04/2015 16:31

Bully for you, still doesn't give you any right to an opinion on what a woman does with her body. It's not a child and it doesn't have any rights.

Why do people think they get to comment and opine just because a woman is pregnant? We aren't public property.

MrsCs · 24/04/2015 16:48

That is your opinion madre, funnily enough it doesn't change mine, which I do have a right to. If a person is carrying another life people are going to care how they behave, it's fact, deal with it.

madreloco · 24/04/2015 17:38

Nope, I'll argue against it, until people like you realise you have no business in other womens lives just because she's pregnant. The only uterus you have rights to is your own, keep your nose out of everyone elses.

carrierpenguin · 24/04/2015 18:03

It is awful behaviour, there is no excuse as far as I'm concerned. Plenty of people have difficult lives, to let this waster off for this reason is just making excuses.

Hopefully she's planning to give the child for adoption if this is what she thinks is acceptable behaviour whilst pregnant.

FujimotosElixir · 24/04/2015 18:09

it is of course horrendous. .however, if we are going to hammer the hardline on this we need to dispense the same vitroil for pregnant smokers, heavy drinkers etc.

Only1scoop · 24/04/2015 18:13

Everyone has a right to an opinion....

madreloco · 24/04/2015 18:16

Opinions are like arseholes, everyone's got one and they are usually full of shit...

CommanderShepard · 24/04/2015 18:33

Actually,only1scoop and MrsCs, no. You do not have a right to an opinion when it involves my body. Much like I don't have a right to one about yours.

itsnotmeitsyou1 · 24/04/2015 18:40

Opinions are like a penis, if you have one, and are proud if it, no one is going to like it if you wave it around in public.

I have come to the opinion that there are some horrid, heartless, judgmental women on this thread, who have somehow gone through life not doing anything wrong themselves to be as such. I'm glad I don't know such snobby bores in real life. In all honesty, I'll be keeping that opinion to myself, as it makes me sound a bit of a cow....

MrsCs · 24/04/2015 19:53

Keep arguing all you like madre not much you can do about it without a more convincing stance

madreloco · 24/04/2015 20:01

What stance? "Since when is Mind your own business you nosy mare" a stance? Hmm

You don't have any rights to opinions on what other people do with their bodies. It's a fact, deal with it.

MrsCs · 24/04/2015 20:13

And how do you plan to stop people forming opinions?

madreloco · 24/04/2015 20:14

Shout at them until they stop it?

DixieNormas, the claim someone made about cannabis and autism was probably one of the most ridiculously stupid and ignorant things said in this thread.....
