Cannabis whilst pregnant!

As if I have just been to the shops for some late night snacks (feeling ravenous) and there is a lady outside the shop with a man, she is quite heavily pregnant and clearly smoking a joint of cannabis! Im really angry! To think of the people who miscarry or cannot concieve! I feel sick to my stomach, rotten!

"..usually normal people like the rest of us.." -speak for yourself Cassie! Grin

laurenlhthompson · 23/04/2015 11:18

Cassie the sandblasting did make me laugh too. I think some people have been watching too much breaking bad….. very dramatic.

WindMeUpAndLetMeGo · 23/04/2015 11:22

Lauren I think you're right about the Breaking Bad theory!

EeekEeekEeekEeek · 23/04/2015 11:25

Ooh don't reveal what the glass thing in Breaking Bad is, I haven't got to that bit yet!

Amyyy27 · 23/04/2015 11:28

I just sincerely hope that there is no one reading this thread who is influenced into continuing smoking weed during pregnancy. And if unfortunately that does happen i hope there are no ill effects to the baby.

WindMeUpAndLetMeGo · 23/04/2015 11:31

If someone is influenced the a thread on MN then they have bigger issues tbh

SunnyBaudelaire · 23/04/2015 11:33

" I'm in hysterics about people making weed weigh more by 'sandblasting' it with GROUND GLASS. "
yes OK but it does happen, esp from the big weed farms that you get these days, typically a suburban rented house with all rooms given over to production with an illegal immigrant in situ as 'farmer'. the profits are huge.
If the thought of this makes you 'hysterical' maybe educate yourself a bit more.

laurenlhthompson · 23/04/2015 11:33

But Amy no one has advocated using cannabis during pregnancy!

Besides all the nasty, mean, judgemental comments previously in the thread if someone was smoking weed then are they likely to get help? No I don't think so.

newbian · 23/04/2015 11:34

Amyyy27 please say the same on the wine thread. It may influence women with drinking problems to keep drinking throughout pregnancy. I'll wait.

CommanderShepard · 23/04/2015 11:36

Heavens above, have I wandered on to Netmums?

On the subject of drugs, where does it end, by the way? Because I'm 19 weeks' pregnant and have just had my daily dose of aspirin on whose tub it says, in big bold letters, do not take if you are pregnant. Except a history of pre-eclampsia means I've been recommended them by my consultant. Last pregnancy I took citalopram, which is also contraindicated by pregnancy. Are the frothing-at-the-mouth posters going to judge me for that?

"A fetus doesn't have personhood and therefore can't have a crime committed against it. This is an incredibly important principle if women are to retain their human rights whilst pregnant."

The most important thing said on this thread, bar none.

CommanderShepard · 23/04/2015 11:37

And everything MrsDeVere said. As always.

sarkymare · 23/04/2015 11:37

I've never watched breaking bad... I'm more of a hollyoaks type myself.

GraysAnalogy · 23/04/2015 11:37

Ah it's alright then let them do what they want, without judgment. It's okay mums, go 'ed. Drink yourself silly, have a line whilst you're at it.

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 23/04/2015 11:38

Oh get over your catsbum mouth Amyyy

No-one is advocating cannabis use. What some posters are advocating is that we think a little more deeply about the circumstances that may have led to a pregnant woman using cannabis.

yes it is just like netmums with names like
'lilbubbasmummy' and so on

Cassie258 · 23/04/2015 11:45

I'll believe it when I see it sunny. Which I won't, of course!

I'm well educated about this issue. I just moved a load of Vietnamese farmers over here to grow thousands of plants in my suburban home. I know all about it. that's a joke

SunnyBaudelaire · 23/04/2015 11:46

sigh.
OK cassie, whatever.

Amyyy27 · 23/04/2015 11:46

Oh insults are the way forward in a discussion :)

I disagree with the foetus post and that is my opinion. I would not do anything to harm my baby and is it really that sad to hope that nobody else would either?

I smoke weed, and during my second pregnancy, when I was very stressed, I asked the midwife if it would hurt if I had a few puffs on a Saturday night and she said that it wouldn't.
I also did A LOT of research on the net (I know, I know) and found very little evidence for marijuana being harmful during pregnancy - unless of course you smoked a shit load, and even then the researchers concluded it was probably the harmful effects of the tobacco rather than the weed.
I even thought about using it for pain relief during labour, women do in other countries, but decided that was probably a step too far in this country. You never know who's judging you ;)

WindMeUpAndLetMeGo · 23/04/2015 11:49

MrsDeVere, again, spot on

Cassie258 · 23/04/2015 11:50

I will agree that the farmers will be less honest than joe bloggs growing it in his basement. I'll give you that sunny Grin

laurenlhthompson · 23/04/2015 11:52

MrsDeVere very well said.

HouseAtreides · 23/04/2015 11:54

I once came across a study into Rastafarian women who continued taking cannabis tincture (drops) throughout their pregnancies (only the men smoke). The study found that the women had comparably easier labours, larger babies and at the one year mark, the babies did better in cognitive tests than 'control' babies.
I'll have to see if I can find it again. Food for thought.
