Ugh I hate how my brain works. In weeks 17 and 18 I put on 5lbs. I thought 'eek I am actually eating quite badly and not exercising' so last week I started eating healthily and doing some walking and I have lost 2lbs.... I am now paranoid that it is because the bubs isn't growing. Literally never happy!

FlorenceandZebedee · 16/03/2015 09:00

Don't worry I was exactly the same for the first 20 weeks, put on a couple of pounds then lost them (and repeat!) it concerned me enough to speak to my consultant about it. She assured me it was fine and I may be one of those people who put all their baby weight on in the second half- she was spot on! 2 and a 1/2 stone later and I still have 10 days to go! But I would also say don't worry about putting 5 pounds on in the first 17 weeks, that is very normal and lots of people put on more. The weight does go once baby is born so as long as you're eating what you fancy- in moderation, I wouldn't worry xxx

FlorenceandZebedee · 16/03/2015 09:04

Just read your message again- don't worry about putting 5 pounds on over 2 weeks this can happen a lot, I jumped up half a stone one week. Quite normal to level out a bit after rapid gain as some of it was probably water retention. Also, my mum swears it goes on once you relax a bit so this could have been the cause followed by a bit more activity to drop some. Either way try not to worry xx

happygojo · 16/03/2015 09:26

Cheers Florence. The stupid thing is that I am still carrying my MC weight (preg gain and then eating and especially drinking my feelings) so I would be losing weight anyway and to put on 5lbs over my birthday where I ate lots of cake and ate lots of sweets and had meals out and takeaways.... Well that is to be expected. I suppose it just feels unnatural to lose weight when you are getting bigger! I got prodded and poked in the car this morning so I am assuming that bubs is all good. Only 1 week til scan! Xxx

Sorry to hear that somesort these things are so worrying. I'd head to EPU and get a quick check, it's what they are there for and will put your mind at rest. The early weeks are so worrying.

Hi all,

thinking of you and sending hugs somesort.

I had my scan on Thursday - all fine although the baby was upside down and asleep so measurements were difficult. Apparently all the babies had been naughty that day. I need to also be changed in the stats list...! Initial scans dated me 12+4 on Thursday, but the dating scan altered that to 13+3, making me 14 weeks today. Now due 14th September.

I'm having to stay away from the internet and Dr Google though, so that's why I've been quiet of late: NT measurement was 2.8mm, which of course I googled and terrified myself with loads of stories of CVS and amnios... but Pickle was 74mm at the scan so it stands to reason that the NT would be larger and they said it was fine and within the normal limits.

Just got to wait for the blood results now but why do I go looking for things to be worried about? Urgh. Trying really hard not to borrow trouble.

On the bright side, guess who hasn't thrown up in almost 48 hours Grin Grin Grin

thesmallbear · 16/03/2015 16:46

Thinking of you SomeSort. I had something similar in the first trimester and all was fine. Did you go to EPU.

I had a bit of a meltdown yesterday. I was feeling grotty and got all hormonal. All my friends who've been pregnant tell me how great they felt in the second trimester. How they were full of energy and went on bike rides etc. I was feeling grotty yesterday; so I got it into my head that I am crap at being pregnant and it must be my fault for doing something wrong! Bloody hormones! Then after I cried I felt guilty for moaning, as of course I am grateful to be pregnant and don't want to come across like i'm not!

Treaclepie19 · 16/03/2015 17:11

Yay commander! Lovely news :)
Well done on not being sick :)

My symptoms have eased so I keep thinking it'll be bad news at my scan Wednesday :( 13+1 today.

Treacle - I had my '12 week' scan around the same time. I felt pretty normal and was almost in tears in the waiting room, as I thought there would be something up with the bean. Everything was fine. it really is normal for symptoms to ease at this stage. I completely understand why you're worried though Flowers

Littlelady33 · 16/03/2015 17:55

Treacle I had the odd good day around 12 wks and worried before my scan / but will was just fine and I felt reassuringly crappy again very soon. Brilliantly I'm now 21 weeks and sickness has been back with a vengeance over last few days - which just does not seen fair Smile

broodylicious · 16/03/2015 17:57

small, I do not feel the second trimester glow at all!! (22wks today) Yesterday was the first day I'd not felt or been sick at all, this morning I felt good and even kept scrambled egg and fanta down for the first time in months. This afternoon though, decidedly dodge again. Grr.

I'm wondering if the glow is a complete myth tbh! I'm rapidly approaching the 'too big and uncomfortable to glow' phase and I haven't even lost the sickness!

Treaclepie19 · 16/03/2015 18:19

I'm fed up of being such a worrier :p
Thank you ladies :)

Only 2 more sleeps to go!

Popping back for advice please.

Did any of you take metronidazole in early pregnancy if infection was implicated in a miscarriage?

I've just got a prescription for it based on last weeks swab. The dr on epu last time suggested it would be safe and advised swab when pregnant to start asap, but in some literature it is contraindicated in early pregnancy.

Obviously its recommended in my case to prevent mc but I would like some 'I took it and baby is fine' stories. Anyone?

cavamonster · 16/03/2015 20:07

Sorry gr33dy I can't help but sure someone helpful will be along soon.

Great to hear of the positive scan stories...

Can I ask if anyone experienced stomach pains similar to if you had done 100 sit ups around 15 weeks? My back is a little sore too. I have a private scan booked for Saturday but I just want to know its normal to stop me worrying all week.

Thanks envious. I still have Athens access so can get some of those. The conclusion I'd drawn was benefit outweigh risks. It's nice someone else drew that conclusion though Smile

I am gutted my results are positive. I'll call epu tomorrow and ask if I'm going to need regular checks if I'm susceptible, because it was treated in November and clear in December and back in March.

Bless you sunbathing you have made me chuckle although with slight despair as I still have a lot of your list to come - although bizarrely I pray I do and the pregnancy progresses well. I feel like I live in two parallel worlds - it's sending me mad Grin

So the pain is not that sore but sore enough to notice if that makes sense. I'd say it's right across the belly button but from side to side, my belly is big but just flab. It's inside as if it's my stomach muscles (not that it looks like I have any anymore) that have been overworked.
