Congratulations Boozle that is fantastic news, and so soon. So exciting!

StickChildNumberTwo · 04/03/2015 21:03

Congratulations Boozle - that's some pretty rapid organising you now get to do! No time to worry about it all, which sounds good to me.

Yay for scan Broody, that's great.

Those of you who've had/are having early scans, when do they do them? After my first mc the midwife at the EPU said they're not funded to do reassurance scans until after 3 mcs, but in reality they do them because they know how hard it is. The second one I didn't get that far, so I'm now wondering if this does continue for the next few weeks without bleeding (which I still expect to see every time I go to the loo), when should I be phoning the EPU to beg for a scan? I don't want to ask so early there's a risk of not seeing anything, but obviously the earlier the better for my sanity.

Boozle80 · 04/03/2015 21:31

I was scanned every week from 6 weeks - 10 weeks and then again at 12 weeks

Boozle80 · 04/03/2015 21:51

I think I was particularly lucky though with my consultant

Treaclepie19 · 04/03/2015 21:53

Stick I had one at6+4 but only because I begged the epu. They don't even let you self refer but I was desperate :p

Getting bored of waiting for my scan. 2 weeks to go yawn.

OP posts:
cavamonster · 05/03/2015 08:20

Excellent news broody you must be so relieved. I got my letter in yesterday saying 1:4820 chance so one less worry for me.

stick I also got weekly then fortnightly scans from 5 weeks as I'm at a specialist RMC unit but if we are ever in this position again I will not get one until 8 weeks, the upset and worry I had after 6 weeks when they couldn't see a hb was horrible. The risk of mc goes down at certain weeks 8, 10 and 12 so by waiting till 8 they will be able to offer more reassurance.

I had my sneaky last scan at St Mary's yesterday and baby was wriggling about and waving again - so lovely. I then met with my RMC consultant and he gave me a "graduation" pack as I am now moving to sole care at my local hospital - I cried Grin. Felt like hopefully a start in the end of a very long painful journey.

StickChildNumberTwo · 05/03/2015 08:54

Thanks cava (and others) - I kind of figured waiting till 8 weeks might make sense, not least because if I get that far it will be past the point of both mcs. Hurrah for your lovely scan, and fingers crossed that it will be smooth sailing from here on in.

worriedmum100 · 05/03/2015 09:04

Hi all. Been quiet for a bit as the nausea kicked in massively and have felt really horrible. Ugh. Agree with comments up thread that mine seems to have been at its worst weeks 10-12. Had a scan last weekend and all was fine measuring 10+5. I also had the Harmony test and gets the results a week on Saturday. also have nhs 12 week scan next Wednesday. Nearly there!

Hope everyone else is doing ok.

Treaclepie19 · 05/03/2015 09:11

Glad all went well Cava :)

Not long to go worried :) My scan isn't til 13+3. I'm 11+4 today. I thought the being sick was just a 2 day fluke but I was sick again last night before bed.
My sickness just waited til later on :p

Hi Treacle. The only thing that worked for me was rest. I had a few days of work and just rested. Went back to work yesterday and actually felt like a human being for the first time in ages!

Treaclepie19 · 05/03/2015 09:23

I'm off work anyway :( It's bearable to be honest. It gives me hope baby is still ok.

MelB2014 · 05/03/2015 10:49

I had a scan at 6 weeks and saw a heartbeat. I'm now 8+4 and have my booking in appointment next Wednesday, but I can't stop worrying.

I am really struggling at the moment with my emotions and really wishing I could go for another scan just to see what's going on. I am less tired this week although I am definitely NOT less emotional and my boobs are still really sore/I hate anything that smells of anything.

Just cannot wait to get into the post 12 weeks bit. I don't think I've ever been on such an emotional rollercoaster before!

Please tell me it gets easier!!

Treaclepie19 · 05/03/2015 12:04

Mel I was the same.
Had a scan at 6+4 but then paid for a private one at 9+5 as I was going crazy.
Now 11+4 and want another!

OP posts:
MelB2014 · 05/03/2015 13:51

It's horrendous isn't it Treacle. I never ever thought I would be like this so I guess it's the hormones!

I might talk to my husband tonight about paying for a private scan. I know it won't change anything but it would really easy my mind if I saw a hb again.

Will the midwife be able to check for a hb at my booking in? I never made it that far last time so have no idea what to expect

Treaclepie19 · 05/03/2015 13:57

The worry is horrible, definitely.

The ladies on here all advised me to have another scan and I was so glad I did.

The midwife doesn't tend to listen for the heartbeat until around 16 weeks apparently. Mine was just paperwork and height/weight/bmi.
Sometimes they do blood and urine but mine will be done at dating scan.

OP posts:
broodylicious · 05/03/2015 14:50

Oh yes, the worry! I drive myself mad with it!
My mw said she could check for HB at my 16 week appt but it's v hit and miss if she can find it as bubs is still small at that stage, so they tend to wait until 24 weeks. I opted not to try because I know I'd have panicked until my anomaly scan if she couldn't find it - four weeks of pure worry would not be good for my mental health!

silverine · 05/03/2015 15:08

Hi all,
Apologies for the long absence. thank you so very much for the lovely comments and baby welcomes! Smile

For those who are curious, a bit more on the labour (it's detailed so please skip if not, it's for me too to remember...): waters broke at 3.30 am on Sunday. Apart from bits of show over the previous few days, there were no signs, I got up for a wee as usual and it wouldn't stop leaking when I wiped, eventually a bigger gush a few mins later. Made it into the hospital, 3 cm dilated. Contractions started off strong but then slowed down and picking up again lots of times, but really painful - gas and air and TENS useless! At many points I was desperate for the drip to speed things up but was told time again they don't induce until 24 hrs after waters breaking - so unfair when you're in agony!!! Angry

I had requested epidural very early on but again wouldn't give it as contractions were erratic and they wouldn't check if dilation had increased because of risk of infection... so how are they meant to know when to give it?..

I was resisting pethidine as I thought it would slow things down even more but finally relented at 9pm on Sunday. This indeed quietened things down and made things more bearable for about 3 hours. I was counting down to 3am when it would be time to transfer me to high risk for drip and epidural, but this didn't happen until about 5am... I was hitting the roof by then!

Once I did get transferred though, things really picked up. Finally got the epidural and the drip but on examination, the baby was positioned awkwardly - not back to back, but head at a bad angle or something... Tried manual turning several times (which must have been so traumatic for poor baby!) but to successful. Finally started pushing at 9.45 - really hard work but at least the epidural was doing its job! Things were progressing but not sufficiently and after 1.5 hours I was told I'd need instrumental delivery - very scared! Suddenly everyone was rushing around, DH changed to come into theatre etc... Once there epidural topped up and tried manual turning again. Then the forceps arrived and I was told I need to push - can anyone clarify how are you meant to do that when you can feel nothing from the chest down?!!! Well I did what I could and could feel a lot of pulling by forceps... Sad

Baby finally out 12.30pm. His head was really swollen and had big red marks from the forceps. Other than that he was fine and DH and I both broke down sobbing with relief! We are still in shock and can't believe we're parents and that he's for real! His swelling went down fairly quickly and his marks are going too now. I break down crying every time I talk to him and say to him I'm his mummy! Blush

So there we are, that's out story, the culmination of 9 months of constant worry and a roller coaster journey, but he's finally here and gorgeous! I'm recovering ok: still sore stitches, with haemorrhoids, incontinence, etc. but happy! Smile

So ladies, keep up the faith, you'll all get there! Here comes my last stats update - in need of volunteer to take over. See you all on the postnatal thread but I'll still lurk and cheer you on. Hope the quiet from holly and tanny mean that they are not far behind me. Also congrats broody on the great scan. Smile

silver I'm not usually a crier but there seems to be something in my eyes reading your post.....I'm so happy for you. sorry it was a difficult birth but sounds like it's all worth it. Thanks also for the stats update. Could I ask a question about the epidural? How does it actually feel once you've had it? Does it feel like you're paralyzed? (I like the idea of less pain, but also find the paralysis bit scary) No worries if you're not up for a question and answer session- I can imagine you're busy with a lovely snuggly baby Smile

Congratulations boozle - lovely news and very impressive organising for Easter. Hopefully focusing on wedding things will take your mind off pregnancy worries.

mel sorry you're having a hard time. It's horrible and time seems to pass so slowly. I never thought I'd say this, but it does get a little easier as pregnancy progresses. On saying that, I've never relaxed completely. Everyone talks about their baby moving all the time, but I don't find that, I wish I could feel her more, so that's always on my mind. If you can afford another scan I would go for it- it's worth it for the peace of mind it brings.

sunbathing I also called the third trimester at 26 weeks. I decided that 3 sets of 13 weeks would take me up to 39 weeks. I think I was just impatient to speed things along in my head. Lovely you saw movement!

Hope everyone here is holding on tight Smile
xx
