Last thread ended with a series of Really Good News, so let's hope this one keeps up the trend!

I declined downs screening it came down to the fact it didn't matter to us one way or another of baby had downs. Although I do understand the need for other people to know for us we wouldn't have had the amnio and would never have had £500 spare to have the harmony test so there was no point either way we would have done nothing with the results.

Glad you had good results from your harmony test small :)

tannyLoo · 17/01/2015 11:33

I had the combined screen but knew if the odds were high for downs, it was just a way of preparing ourselves for possibly having a downs baby. After all this, for us any baby is amazing...

In the end our odds were about 1:1200 and no anomalies seen at 20 week scan. I'm 42, so happy with that.

Sorry I don't seem to have as much to contribute as I have in the past. Loads of bereavement at the moment is swamping me a bit, and just trying to get through to the start of mat leave (2 weeks to go!)

Am currently 33+4.

Waves and welcome to all newbies. We all understand the early day fears only too well!

Littlelady33 · 17/01/2015 11:52

Two weeks to go Tanny how exciting! Small, Donna - I'm repelled now by plain couscous. This is my best one yet. I mean, it literally doesn't taste of anything. I'm yet to feel that second trimester glow I have to say. I'm still on toast and marmite and have felt too ill to leave the house since Thursday.

Sunbathing I agree - at my 12 week scan I felt full of a cough and cold but the baby was dancing around and perfect - that's all that matters. I know that sickness often passes around now but I'm prepared mentally for it not to.

hestialou · 17/01/2015 14:31

Hi, i had a bump in the car today, am un injured as only going 20 mph, but am shook up as 5 weeks pregnant and miscarried last year. Will everything be ok?

thesmallbear · 17/01/2015 14:54

charlie I was 14 weeks when I had the Harmony test done. If the baby had Down's we'd have continued with the pregnancy anyway. We'd have still loved him or her. We wanted to know though, so we could prepare ourselves. If the baby had Down's I wanted to speak to other parents about their experiences, seek out support groups etc. I would have only considered a TFMR if the abnormality was so bad the baby would be in agony with no quality of life (I hear Edwards Syndrome is pretty much like this). If we have a second chid I think I'll turn down the NHS screening and just go straight for the Harmony and get it all sorted sooner.

Commander - thanks for the Bravissimo recommendation. I went for a fitting today and they really were excellent. Took their time over everything and much more professional than M&S. I highly recommend them.

charlieis30 · 17/01/2015 14:58

hestia were you wearing the seatbelt low? should be absolutely fine, but if you're worried can you self refer to an epu near you?

hestia - I think it'll be fine a 20mph. Have you had any cramps at all? I'm sure it'll be ok, but if you're worried could you go to EPU or an out of hours walk-in centre?

hestialou · 17/01/2015 15:11

Hi thanks for responses, seatbelt is naturally low as seats are sporty (bucket seats?) epu not open until Monday charlie. No cramps, but will call midwife if get any over weekend, or see them Monday. Xx

CommanderShepard · 17/01/2015 15:53

No problem, small.

Realised today that I'm past the point of the big bleed now in my last pregnancy... just as there's a bit of pale brown discharge again as I wipe. Really don't know what to do. This cannot be happening again :(

OP posts:
thesmallbear · 17/01/2015 15:55

commander - I had brown discharge in this pregnancy and everything is fine. Brown blood is old blood and usually ok. You should be able to get referred for an early scan to put your mind at rest Flowers

CommanderShepard · 17/01/2015 15:59

It's how my last one started though... light brown, then dark brown, then dark red, then bright red.

thesmallbear · 17/01/2015 16:05

My MC started with brown discharge too, so I understand how terrified you are. It doesn't mean it's going to happen again this time though. Go and see your GP on Monday and get a referral to EPU for a scan. Big hugs Flowers

BB01 · 17/01/2015 16:22

Really sorry to hear that Mama.

Thanks - I'm trying to calm down as it seems to have stopped. For now.

Of the six couples in our NCT class, five have either had their second or are 15+ weeks gone. It's us who are struggling to get that far.

Phryn · 17/01/2015 17:53

Thinking of you commander. I had pale brown cm and a bit of dark brown cm on and off between I think 6 weeks and 9 weeks. I found it really difficult as I had spotting that way before my MC, but it was all fine and an early scan showed a happy bean. I'm now 20weeks today and starting to feel movement. Really hoping this is just a scary bump along the way for you. Flowers

Hestia so sorry you've had a bump in the car. I've had a couple (not while pregnant and I know how shaken up they made me feel.) What has already been said is correct - your baby is well protected but do speak to the midwife on Monday Cake

maverick79 · 17/01/2015 17:53

Hi, may I join, we tested and got a lovely positive so we are 4 weeks today, still on period watch but feeling hopeful. Miscarried our first 6 months ago to day, met my husband 6 years ago today. Agree that you can't prevent the disappointment that comes with a m/c so heading into this one acknowledging the last 6 mths but looking forward...today I am pregnant and I am so pleased.

Welcome maverick. Sorry for your earlier loss but congrats for your bfp. That's totally the attitude I'm aspiring to - and succeeding mostly. Here's to being pregnant.

Sorry to hear you've had a bit of brown commander. How stressful. Maybe contact the epu on Monday or go to a local walk in centre at the weekend. Are you planning on an early reassurance scan?

I'm having a one born every minute marathon today. Emotional wreck. I really hope it works out for all of us this time.

In the spirit of positivity I've been looking at birthing options today too to distract from worrying thoughts about tiny cramps I'm having Has anyone had a water birth? I think that's what I'm going to aim for all being well.

Littlelady33 · 17/01/2015 18:17

Hugs commander, brown blood is scary but I know but it's old blood and happens to many of us who go on to have successful pregnancies. Hand holding and everything crossed for you.

DoctorDonnaNoble · 17/01/2015 18:21

Twilight - whilst I like the idea of a water birth, I've got myself convinced they'll want me to be consultant led. Overweight (wasn't before MMC), asthmatic and my mum had pre-eclampsia with me. Doubt I'll have much say in the matter.

Flumpy2012 · 17/01/2015 18:30

Good news on your results smallbear.

Sorry to hear about your accident hesti, I hope you're ok.

Commander - I its any consolation I've always been told it's fresh blood which is a concern. How far along are you?

Has any one else had an upset stomach at the beginning? The tummy pain made me panic and I've done barely anything today, I can't seem to stop worrying even though I know what will be will be whether I waste all my energy worrying or not. I have no idea how I'm going to get to 8 weeks for a scan with nerves like this.
