Last thread ended with a series of Really Good News, so let's hope this one keeps up the trend!

Tell me about it (weight gain following mc). During my first pregnancy (which made it to 11 weeks) I didn't put on any weight but after it I put on over a stone in a month. Mostly creme eggs which I'll sadly forever associate with that time.

I was probably borderline overweight during my checking in appt for that pregnancy, but the midwife seemed fairly supportive of midwife led unit. I hadn't had 4 mc at that point though. Does anyone know if recurrent early mc makes you high risk during the rest of preg?

tannyLoo · 17/01/2015 18:37

Twilight I had a waterbirth last time round, and really hoping to have another one in a few weeks. Best, most empowering experience of my life! Ask away!

Flumpy2012 · 17/01/2015 18:44

Horray maverick, I had my BFP yesterday.

tannyLoo · 17/01/2015 18:44

I am considered low risk, despite my age and mc history. I am a bit over a healthy BMI and was last time. This has been the easiest of my pgs physically. Emotionally, totally different story if course...

My mw is happy to consider a home birth, water birth at mlu or any other option. I'm hoping to get my consultant to sign me off from his care next week, so I can use the local mlu...

thesmallbear · 17/01/2015 18:44

Flumpy I had a funny tummy a couple of times early on. It's not nice, but I think it's just one of those normal pregnancy things. I think some people get this in place of throwing up. Hugs Flowers

twilightstruggle · 17/01/2015 18:46

Wonderful that you had such a lovely experience Tanny ??. I guess my only question would be why do people choose not to? I know sometimes there's no choice but on obem it seems some people opt to do it from the hospital bed which doesn't appeal at all (not trying to be judgy - I perhaps associate lying on my back with my legs apart with being told I'm having a mc).

thesmallbear · 17/01/2015 18:51

I don't fancy a water birth at all. I just don't like the idea of being in the water with all bits of blood and flotsam and jetsam floating about. Maybe I'm a bit OCD. Also (and I know this is weird), I hate the feeling of air on my skin and get cold very easily. I hate the idea of being half in tepid water, with the other half hanging out in the air freezing and getting goose bumps. I understand most women want this sort of birth though and fair enough to them - just thought I'd give a different perspective.

Also, I'm a wimp and want to be in close proximately to someone who can give me drugs!

tannyLoo · 17/01/2015 18:58

Good question. My first birth was a standard birthing unit and I ended up with a very medically managed birth. I was young (27) and not very assertive. I asked about the pool and was told it was in use, and it wasn't offered again.

The main difference for me was the sense of control I had in the water. I was able to move around and change position and the water kept me in control.

Flumpy2012 · 17/01/2015 19:01

Good to know smallbear! I feel better now.

I would've loved a water birth last time but couldn't. An NCT friend who was very slim had a 9lb 1 baby (I have no idea how she did it) in water and didn't suffer even a graze so that was a pull factor for me, I'd hate to be cold too though but I think labour makes most people warm.

Even on a hospital bed with wires etc I still felt as though I had a very positive labour with my dd. And she was ventouse!

twilightstruggle · 17/01/2015 19:03

Different perspectives are good - really hope I haven't offended. I guess it's a very personal gut feeling thing. And the proximity to drugs thing is a very good point!

twilightstruggle · 17/01/2015 19:05

I'm generally perpetually boiling so the idea of water being a bit cooling sounds bliss I think how I'm picturing childbirth may be a bit naive!

longestlurkerever · 17/01/2015 19:08

I had a water birth and would recommend it. In my hospital it was either or though - water births in mlu with only gas and air or epiduralut no waterbirth on labour ward. I was a bit nervous of no drugs but the birthing centre was fab. Hoping to use it again but bmi is my worry too. Midwife asked if I would want to use it again though and wrote thatit was my preference in my notes without mentioning bmi.

Has anyone else had diarrhoea around 20 weeks? Feeling a bit rubbish today and fretting again though baby Iis kicking again after a quiet day.

Commander fingers crossed all is well.

Welcome newbies xx

tannyLoo · 17/01/2015 19:08

Can't say I noticed blood and shit or the temperature! The mws kept a eye on the temp and topped up as needed.

We all have different experiences and they're all valid though Grin

thesmallbear · 17/01/2015 19:09

I'm not offended in the slightest Smile

maverick79 · 17/01/2015 19:12

Congratulations Flumpy! that was the symptom that made me suspect I may be pregnant, it has calmed down now tho. I've also put 1.5 stone since m/c, am hoping to lose a little in the next few weeks. Can anyone answer a question, at which point do I move from pregnacare conception to pregnant?

longestlurkerever · 17/01/2015 19:15

From bfp I suppose maverick though I imagine they are pretty similar x

worriedmum100 · 17/01/2015 19:53

Commander - I hope you're ok. Hang in there x

Re: vitamins. I seem to remember reading somewhere that it's ok to take what you've got left of the conception ones then start the other ones.

Well, another day of being pregnant is nearly over (I'm knackered so 8pm is not far off bedtime). Tomorrow I will be 4+3. It's such a shame to wish the days away.

I've also had a dodgy tummy and weird stitch like pain under my ribs. A few waves of nausea but mostly I just feel tired and kind of hung over. Boobs appear out of control.

My lovely parents came back from holiday today so I went over to give them the news. They were so positive which was a nice change. DP is wonderful but he won't really talk about it and seems to struggle to use the word "pregnant". I guess this is his way of coping with the uncertainty . The last 21/2 years have been very tough on us both. But I do wish he'd talk about it more. Otherwise I'm all in my own head all the time. Good to be able to vent on here.

I feel like I'm losing the plot and am just waiting to miscarry again for the second time in two months. I've got no idea how to be positive and not worry. I'm too scared to get out of bed in case I start to bleed.

God I sound pathetic.

I keep changing between constipation and diarrhoea.
Right now I'm in a lot of pain with wind (I hope) shooting pains in the rear end. Not nice.

Commander I feel the same. Sending you massive hugs x

twilightstruggle · 17/01/2015 21:15

Hang in there lovelies. One day at a time. X

I've just watched a different obem episode and am now going with an elective c-sec!Wink

charlieis30 · 17/01/2015 21:20

maverick change whenever you want. I'd just finish off the conception ones then move to preg ones. The ingredients lists are nearly the same, I don't think it matters at all.
I think we get kinda obsessed with vitamins as it makes you feel like you're in control of something (goodness knows I HAD TO HAVE the gold plated, most $$$ ones between MC2 and conceiving this time) but remember, for thousands of years people haven't had vitamins and the babies have been just fine. Due to my nausea in 1st trim I was taking the tiny folic-only ones, and those only every couple of days, MW wasn't too worried at all. She seemed to think it was more important to be taking them in the runup to getting preg.

charlieis30 · 17/01/2015 21:22

commander totally natural way to feel, hope you can relax a bit. Maybe take a warm (not hot) bath if you're into that? Candle, book, bath was deployed almost every day in my early pregnancy. Helped with the cramps as well.

tannyLoo · 17/01/2015 21:39

I would add doing some mindfulness if you like that sort of thing, commander, I did some early on and they really helped me focus. You can find loads of guided mindfulness exercises on you tube. Today you are pregnant!

Phryn · 17/01/2015 21:45

A good app (and website) for mindfulness is headspace available for free on iPhone and Android. I've found it really helpful as have a number of mumsnetters.
