My scans tomorrow afternoon. Argh!

RevoltingPeasant · 28/07/2014 23:14

Mine too! The second "12w scan" that is. For nuchal fold.

Win and Feather food luck tomorrow and come back and POST. With pics Grin

I think reading about childbirth etc is very individual. Lots of people say things like "don't worry about that, you've got ages yet" or "well you can't control what happens so don't worry" or "ha ha the baby hasn't read the books".

Personally those ideas make me Angry There is no other scary medical situation people go through that is treated so cavalierly, and I think there is more than an element of misogyny about those attitudes, like silly little women, won't be able to cope with all the technical detail, will just fret. I want to be as informed as possible so if something goes wrong and I need an intervention, at least I know what is happening.

Also some procedures are risky. With Keillands forceps for sure, there is a much higher risk to the baby than for most other kinds of deliveries. They are banned in some countries due to the risk. I want to know about stuff like that because imagine, after all we have been through, if the baby was injured during birth? None of us can guarantee avoiding that but I do want to know what I'm signing up to when I consent to something.

Ahem Blush Blush Blush

FeatherFeather11 · 29/07/2014 07:21

Right, good luck today rp and win - please update us when you can. I'm going in. See you on the flip side...

Ps. Agree with you rp on the misogyny re attitudes to childbirth. Personally, I'm not really scared of the pain or anything. Have a high pain threshold and having been through a knotted Fallopian tube for three weeks, when post op pain killers didn't touch it, I think I can deal with 24/48 hours of labour. Just want the baby to be ok. Bring it on! I am woman, hear me roaaaaaaaarrrrrrr! [if I'm lucky enough to get that far]

winohhh · 29/07/2014 07:36

Good luck feather! Good luck RP!

Totally agree with you also RP. We were looking up stats for medical interventions at local hospitals last night. Scary shit!

greatbigbushybeard · 29/07/2014 09:40

Good luck feather winooh and rp!

CatsCantFlyFast · 29/07/2014 09:40

winohhh · 29/07/2014 11:30

Hope everything is okay feather. X

RevoltingPeasant · 29/07/2014 12:29

Ooooh I am also hoping this doesn't mean everything is not okay.

Feather am thinking of you xx

FeatherFeather11 · 29/07/2014 12:30

Sorry guys - been running around on tubes etc. this morning was ok. Got a mardy nurse doing the scan so she kept saying she couldn't give me any answers re nuchal fold count till bloods were in. had to go back in three times as bladder wasn't full enough, so it's been a long morning. Pic is terrible and blurry, but now in the lovely aircon'd reception at the fmc and waiting for a clearer picture in all ways. Will report back asap.

How's everyone? rp? win? What time are you on today?

winohhh · 29/07/2014 12:41

Sorry for the unpleasant experience feather, but phew, glad things were broadly ok. Hope you have a different experience at the fmc. I've always found them v. Helpful. It's my nhs scan this pm, never had an nhs scan before, hoping for a more pleasant experience than you feather!

RevoltingPeasant · 29/07/2014 13:11

Oh good! But they couldn't see anything bad and you will soon have a clearer picture. Good! :)

Actually that happened to me the opposite way, where my bladder was TOO full so had to go for a 'controlled wee' (partial emptying) three times too!

Phew.

Am leaving for hospital now Confused

FeatherFeather11 · 29/07/2014 14:08

Here HE (70% sure) is! Totally feeling reassured after fmc doc spent a good 45 min scanning and checking everything. Got a 1 in 5000 chance of downs without the harmony results.

How'd you go rp? Good luck this afternoon win!

And thank you all for the amazing support. xx

winohhh · 29/07/2014 14:55

Yay!! Great news feather! Just out from mine, all fine too. :) might actually tell some people now!!

winohhh · 29/07/2014 14:56

Everything crossed RP!

FeatherFeather11 · 29/07/2014 15:31

Go RP!

FeatherFeather11 · 29/07/2014 15:38

Great news win! So pleased for you xx

greatbigbushybeard · 29/07/2014 16:01

Woo hoo! Go ladies! That's definitely a baby feather! Does it feel weird? Sorry it was a bit flustered this morning. How much did you pay for your harmony test? And are you in London as I know that's the main place to have them done?

Treated myself to a day out and went to a lovely little town in the country and lunch out and a potter amongst gift shops- v naice! Going to meet a friend for a drink. We normally have a bevy together so am going to yoga and driving later as my excuse! All helping to distract from tomorrow. But emotional at mo', nearly cried at a card in gift shop earlier !! WTF!!

RevoltingPeasant · 29/07/2014 16:36

Hi, yes mine was fine!

Dino wriggled about all over the place, as per usual! Had to have 2 wees, walk the corridor etc again. But they got a measurement. My Downs risk is 1:1957. Very specific! I'm happy with that and it is low risk. Also for other trisomies.

Not much sleep last night due to hayfever so zonked today! They gave us another free picture of the dino, this one touching its face. No mention of sex though.

Feather congrats, and exciting about being a boy!! Just don't go buying blue prams on the strength of it Wink

Win you too, how great we are all through!

Now just your turn Bushy.

FeatherFeather11 · 29/07/2014 16:53

Brilliant DINO news rp! No blue prams for moi. It's just a 70% guess by the doc but he could be wrong!

Go bushy go!

Will write properly later. Sneaking on at work. xx

winohhh · 29/07/2014 16:57

Yay! Great news RP!

Your turn next bushy! Everything crossed all is well tomorrow.

RevoltingPeasant · 29/07/2014 18:43

Yes Bushy what time is it? so I know when to start hitting F5 madly

yorkiebilb · 29/07/2014 19:34

Congrats ladies on the great scan news! Yippee!!!

Good luck tomorrow busy

feather I understand the worries about waiting for your harmony but hope you're feeling reassuring after today at fmc. They are great in there aren't they?! I couldn't have the harmony done as was pg with two but lost one early on but the sac still remained so the results wouldn't have been accurate. However, I was very reassured when I had my scan and blood tests with them and hope you do too. Just to pre-warn about the gender prediction at 12 weeks- I was told at my fmc 12 week scan that they were 80% sure it was a girl but later scans have shown that it is a boy (we definitely saw the bits!) so they do get it wrong!

Hope everyone else is okay? I thought my morning sickness had finally disappeared last week for good but it appears to have come back today accompanied by nosebleed. Joy! Thank god it's only first thing in a morning though!

jessplussomeonenew · 29/07/2014 20:53

Fantastic scan news Smile.
