foody I had a lovely nap after a dog walk this afternoon!

loving the free for all napping, definitely a benefit of being pregnant!

BlindKitty · 11/05/2014 06:09

foody did you learn anything new in birth positivity? Anything worth sharing?

Blimey there was a lot to take in, alot of it was just confirming things or changing the emphasis.

She is a doula so is was very 'mum' focused.
One thing that came up a lot was the effect that external influences have on the production of oxytosin. That light, noise and anxiety (adrenaline) all inhibit oxytosin so might slow or stall labor.
A lot of focus on being somewhere dark and cozy & intimate, like your primal self would have done (and like most mammals/cats do!). So being at home like this then the room at hospital/birth centre being the same.
She did say that things like going for long walks or bouncing on birthing ball are unlikely to 'get you going', that the main trigger for labor comes from your baby and your hormones.
She did try to give a balanced view and covered all the practical/biological stuff too and was realistic about birthing plans.

She did stress the importance of putting things in your birthing plan like delayed cord clamping, skin to skin for 1hr and that weighing/dressing baby etc can wait until after this unless medically necessary, also about mother directed pushing, not MW directed pushing unless needed medically i.e epidural.
Basically the emphasis was about the MW being there to support and encourage you not to tell you what to do!
She is meant to be emailing us some info that covers what we talked about.
Also had a chart representing ?cm dialated
1cm = cherio

5cm = cracker

6-7cm = coke can

10cm = bagel Shock!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

BlindKitty · 11/05/2014 11:04

Ohh my first reaction started with an 'f' and ended with an 'l' but I won't put that.

Interesting about the birth ball, walks etc, and ties in with the conversation we're having on fb with 'z'

kitty hav you started mat leave yet?

DartmoorDoughnut · 13/05/2014 17:29

Can I join? Am 25 weeks and we were trying for about 3 years, think that qualifies me?!

CatsCantFlyFast · 13/05/2014 18:34

Welcome in Dartmoor and congrats on your pregnancy. Strictly speaking I no longer belong here as my berry baby was born 7 weeks ago but I like to hang around! Think there's a few berries about the same number of weeks as you so you will be able to compare notes and symptoms. How's your pregnancy been so far?

Bunny in honour of a newbie do you want to do a list??

CatsCantFlyFast · 13/05/2014 18:35

Also must be time for some bets on when the next berry babies will arrive, along with weight

DartmoorDoughnut · 13/05/2014 18:59

Congrats Merkin :) how are you finding being a mummy?

Oh and what is the berry bit about?!

PuppyMummy · 13/05/2014 19:16

long story short its from 'elderberry pavlova' (we hav a thread in conception too, where most of us started and joined the ttc trail)

The berry part comes from 'elderberry' cos were mostly 'old' (over 30). bit more to it than that but thats the short version!

anyone else care to try and explain?!!

PuppyMummy · 13/05/2014 19:17

oh, sorry, forgot to say welcome dartmoor!

and yes 3 yrs qualifies you! no instadiffing goin on on this thread!

Tallyra · 13/05/2014 19:23

Hi Dartmoor, another graduate here, my girl is 5w. Welcome. I hope you are old enough for entry Wink the elderberry pavlovas was our original name, in relation to a medical term for people over 30 being 'elderly' or something, another better berry than me can explain more.

CatsCantFlyFast · 13/05/2014 19:34

Berry is short for elderberry pavlova which is a play on elderly prima gravida, the medical term for being pregnant over 30

Being a mum is amazing, surreal and totally overwhelming. Not long for you now Grin

Tallyra · 13/05/2014 19:40

Well done Merkin, you always come up with the answers!

DartmoorDoughnut · 13/05/2014 21:41

Thanks Puppy Smile what on earth does instadiffing mean?! Confused

I've never been so glad to be in my 30's! Will be 32 once bump turns into baby. I didn't realise we were still considered old by the medical profession, hey ho!

DartmoorDoughnut · 13/05/2014 21:45

I can't wait Merkin Grin We start the nursery in another week and a bit (currently our bedroom whilst we sort ours out) I really want to nest! What's your LO called?

PuppyMummy · 14/05/2014 06:42

dartmoor it means getting pregnant with little effort, as soon as you start trying!

Most on our threads hav taken over 12 months and/or have used assisted conception

PuppyMummy · 14/05/2014 06:43

sorry, not thinking before posting! As in 'instantly getting up the duff'

Welcome dartmoor

Morning peeps! How are we all?

I'm still fed up with all the nausea, backache and generally feeling blah! But at least I'm still on my holibobs Grin

BlindKitty · 14/05/2014 09:51

puppy I'm next, I'm next
Yep on mat leave and bored bored bored!!!!

dartmoor welcome and glad someone else explained the berry concept! No idea who started it though! Most if us have needed a little 'help' in getting diffed so not fond the old 'oh I got pg on our first try' line! You need to add yourself to the list (oh and bunny lurves her lists haha)

merk if you're placing bets, I actually already put my lo's expected weight somewhere if anyone wants to cheat!

OP posts:
CatsCantFlyFast · 14/05/2014 10:04

Kitty I saw the weight but am pretty confident it won't be accurate
Has your baby/bump dropped yet?

BlindKitty · 14/05/2014 16:55

merk not quite sure. Sometimes I think yes and other times no. I'm getting a lot of 'cystitis type' pain but not when I urinate, mostly just when she moves so does that mean she's dropped?

So meeting one if the girls from preg yoga tomorrow. Feels a bit like a first date as obviously hardly know her but she seems nice Smile
