I know its the wrong end of the country but the NHS specialist consultant at Epsom hospital specialises in recurrent miscarriage and has been in the national press for his work on it

merk she thought she was 10 weeks but they said it had died at 7weeks. The prog just stops her from displaying her mc and even lets her abdomen expand so she's been non the wiser Sad. Even if the consultant was in brum I'm not sure she'd pursue it. She's spent thousands in private fertility treatment, for all the good it's done

Kitty, yes, sort of. She is a consultant for the labour ward and is part of the antenatal clinic team who seems to have lots of mmc experience.

I'm so sorry for your friend. It really is devastating. Any advice I can help with I'm here.

Report
BlindKitty · 26/04/2014 07:57

They've told he she's got to have 3 mcs before they'll refer her, is that normal? Did the consultant treat you any differently, ie drugs etc? I know you had about a million scans but that's it

Sorry. Yes, they wouldn't do anything until the third one. I have a post all written on another device I thought I'd posted, will see if it's still there.

Report
Tallyra · 26/04/2014 19:29

yes, they would.t do anything until my third. then they sent the foetus away for testing and did a blood test to check for clotting. it came back as a random mutation with clotting fine so they didn't want to do anything else. I pushed to see the fc and got a hysteroscopy to make sure nothing was damaged during the erpcs. all was fine and I got pg almost first go after that!

Morning berries - just having breakfast, so a very quick birth story update before I go back to my DH and see if she wants feeding again Grin

So, regular contractions started around 4pm Weds, increasing until I went in to hospital about 1am. At that point, cervix was effaced and I was 2cm dilated. However, once we were there, contractions slowed down and then stopped. So at 4am, we went back home, and I slept until about 10ish. Only a handful more, relatively mild contractions through the morning, then about 3ish, they suddenly got much more severe quickly. Shortly afterwards, my waters broke a bit, and I got a big show, so we immediately set off back to the hospital. Got there about 4, by the time I was assessed I was 7cm already Shock, so we went very quickly from gas and air, to epidural plus gas and air, to fully dilated by about 7pm. We then paused to wait for the head to drop a bit further, but after half an hour of that, they weren't happy with baby's heartrate during contractions, so used ventouse and small episiotomy to do the last bit. She was delivered 8:12 - so about 4 hrs from arriving at the hospital!

Not necessarily what I would have planned in terms of intervention, but I was happy with all the decisions as they happened. Gas & air made me super-dizzy, so the epidural helped allow me to make sense between contractions as well. And so far so good in terms of healing. And she is obviously completely perfect Grin Grin Grin

Congrats again Poppy. Try to enjoy the first few days, they go so quickly (and the sleep deprivation soon sets in)

Nasty night here, our pattern was thrown by DH getting her to nap while I was in the bath so she didn't want to sleep when we went to bed. Eventually got her to sleep but she vomited after her first feed and we settled into a pattern of feeding, 10 mins doze, waking up and crying, vomit and repeat. Basically no sleep. Luckily DH took her for a couple of hours at 6.30 after I got a feed to stay down which meant I got 2 hours sleep Grin

Just saw this on another thread. Wish i had read more like this and been a bit better prepared...
blog.hellomagazine.com/giovannafletcher/2014/04/the-first-month-of-motherhood/
Remember the feeling when you got your bfp and it was a bit 'what now?' as the focus had all been on getting pregnant and not what happened next...I focused a lot on the due date and labour and so had the same what now feeling when the baby arrived. Along with a chunk of hormones I wildly swing through a whole range of emotions for a few weeks and wish I had been better prepared for that happening...

Report
Tallyra · 27/04/2014 14:45

Merkin, Yes! I agree with you so much. Everyone tells you it'll be hard, but no one says anything about the hormones making it so much harder. I never said this before, but on the way home from the hospital, as I was so concerned I couldn't feed her enough yet, we stopped at tesco and dh went in to get some milk. I just sat in the car and cried. I couldn't give a specific reason, it just had to come out.

Tally I have cried so much and I am not a teary kind of person. I've cried because I am sad, happy, frustrated, tired, worried, mad and for no reason at all. I'm not depressed or crazy. I'm just a new mum, trying to adjust and learn and not fuck this up, all on v little sleep. I love my daughter in an unimaginable way, but this is hard and its a big change. I'm not afraid to say I'm finding it tough, although I also find it exhilarating too. I am enjoying it, but I don't want to pretend I feel great all of the time and that its easy (I'm looking at you antenatal group) because I think that puts a lot of pressure on new mums who think everyone else finds it easy and loves every minute of their new life

Have you thought about getting a Doppler to keep yourself amused in the meantime?
