{{waves}} to penguin due date buddy! And to all you ladies. I totally agree the wait from 16-20 weeks is a nightmare - ( I was lucky and managed to have a scan at 18 wks because of my history - but I was still freaking out) Its normal to be worried, even now I feel a doom before a check up, eventhough the baby is moving all the time I still have to prepare myself for the worst just in case.

With my first pregnancy I didn't really feel anything definite until 22 wks, with this pregnancy I did feel little flutters before 20wks but again very erratic and nothing that made me 100% confident. The midwife said to me at the time that really you shouldn't worry untl your 22-24wks. Also id you don't know where your placenta is yet then this could be muffling any movements - my placenta is at the front so that was why I couldn't feel much till after 20 wks.

Also - remember the stats - miscarriage after 12 wks is really rare - can't think of the top of my head but chances of miscarriage now are dramatically decreased - I lost one pregnancy at 20 wks and this is the only thing that has helped me through this pregnancy that what happened was really really rare - lots of positive vibes to you all who are approaching the 20 wk scan - and lots of hand holding to all those pre 12 wks.

Hope you've all got sunshine where you are xx

Grin Squiz, he's not wrong there!!

Sorry to hear that Emki but very true about stats. 24 weeks is ages yet and as much as I want progress and for dp to be able to feel kicks/movement too like Alb said it sounds uncomfortable so not willing it here any quicker than necessary personally!

penguin how you doing? I just went to supermarket and you popped into my mind when I was choosing bread .....

I've forgotten - do you know if you are having a boy or girl?

NerdyBird · 04/05/2014 20:30

hi all

Welcome all new people! Hopefully your pregnancies will be smooth :)

congratulations cbeebies sound like a quick one!

i had a bit of a scare yesterday. I'd thought baby wasn't moving quite right on Friday night, but it did move so tried not to worry. On Saturday, however, there was definitely less movement. In the end I went to the hospital around 9pm and was monitored. The heart was beating nicely and I could hear movements but just not feel them. it was quite odd.
Then later on after I'd got home and had peanut butter on toast with tea baby decided to move! it hadn't reacted to ice-cream or cold Fanta earlier in the day. The midwife said it must have got into a position where I couldn't feel what was going on. Also whilst she was feeling my tummy she did say baby feels the right size, which was nice because I've been worrying about it growing too, as my bump doesn't seem to have grown much.

I also got quite upset with DP as he told me he thought I was making a fuss about nothing. I think he's thought that with most of the things I've worried about. I told him how upset and unsupported it makes me feel and I hope it's gone in. He said did I want him to lie about how he feels and I said no, but he doesn't need to say it even if he thinks it. It's just not helpful.
Thankfully, he didn't say anything when I got in, just asked about it and then gave me a cuddle.

Today baby has been more back to normal, so feeling a lot better.

Sorry for long post! Hope you all have a nice bank holiday!

Penguinita · 04/05/2014 21:14

Ha ha emki, what was it about buying bread that made you think of me? Did they have the chocolate penguin bars in the same aisle? Grin. I'm doing pretty well thanks, although I can't get out much (especially when it is raining) as my feet are so swollen that only flip flops will fit! And I need a wee every 5 minutes. How are you feeling, are you prepared for baby's arrival yet?

Sounds scary nerdy, glad it turned out to be alright. My midwife keeps saying it is better to be safe than sorry and call straight away if movement gets less. You did the right thing, I think it is hard for the men to understand sometimes when they are not the ones carrying the babies, they don't have the same bond with them yet.

Lovely to see all the new updates on the stats list! Lots of pregnant ladies, hooray! Grin

Penguinita · 04/05/2014 21:15

P.S. emki I'm probably having a girl but the scan was not totally conclusive, so could get a surprise... Did you decide not to find out?

DitzyDonkey · 04/05/2014 21:16

I'm thinking of booking a scan at six weeks just for peace of mind....even though I'm getting one with the epu at eight weeks! But the last time the baby had died at 6 weeks but I didn't start bleeding until nearly 9 weeks and I was merrily going on thinking all was fine. I will be a psychotic mess around the 6 week mark (if I make it that far)

What would you recommend?

Jays43 · 04/05/2014 21:37

Hi ditzydonkey I totally know how you feel. I had a missed miscarriage in jan this year. It was really awful had scans at 6,8,10 weeks and no change from the 6 week mark. It never grew past this;( I am now pregant again. I am 6 weeks and 2 days. Me and my husband are in two minds what to do. He thinks that I should wait the whole 12 weeks and early scans just bring worry when they are so small. From my experience an early scan around the 7/8 week mark is perfect. I would stick with that. 6 weeks its so tiny. I have just had a couple of really bad few days. Felt v low and on reflection I know it's becasue I have just gone through the time my last pregnancy stopped growing. I'm feeling a bit better today but still worried sick. I have terrible nausea, sore boobs and aching cramps. Found this thread yesterday and feel really comforted by the support. I am v lucky to have a girl of nearly 3 already. So having one successful preg and one unsuccessful preg, I am praying this one will be ok. Time can't go quick enough ;(

DitzyDonkey · 04/05/2014 21:53

Jays43 thank you for sharing your experience! I'm having a bad day today. It's head wrecking wishing each day to pass by quickly. It's such early days 4+2!

I wish I was projectile vomiting or some really strong symptoms, at the moment it's waking the last few nights between 2-4 in the morning feeling slightly nauseous but then I feel totally fine during the day! But my bfp's seem to be stringer this time!

Are you getting many symptoms, if so when did the kick in?

Alb1 · 04/05/2014 22:08

nerdy that sounds scary, glad everything was fine with the baby tho, how far along are you now?

What's the earliest you should start reporting reduced movements? And who do u phone about it? Like I said mine don't have a pattern yet, but iv started to worry about it already, sometimes I only feel him once or twice a day, but it's usually fairly early on (by lunch time) but today I havnt felt him until about 10 mins ago so Iv started to panic! It's like he somehow nos I called his movements wierd and uncomfortable yesterday and is now taking revenge lol I no that's not possible really, I'm not quite that crazy yet

Early scans are a hard one, I had one with the nhs at 6+1 and saw the heartbeat(I think I was fairly lucky to see it that early tho), and then a private one at 9 weeks and I found them both very reassuring, I do agree that waiting till around 7/8 weeks is best tho, I was just lucky that my dates have been bang on all the way through so far, ovulating jus a few days later would have just resulted in panicking after that 6 week scan for no reason cos it wud have been too early for a hb

Emki · 04/05/2014 22:15

Grrrrrr just wrote a really long post referring to early scans and nerdy's traumatic day - and jst managed to delete the whole thing!! Will write again - however about to run out if battery! Lots if positive vibes to you all - Xxx

NerdyBird · 04/05/2014 22:51

alb I'm 29+2 today. In my area you can phone your midwife, maternity day assessment unit or the labour triage ward. As it was evening I rang triage. For movements I think the general advice is that it can still be variable up to around 24 weeks but is likely to settle into a pattern after that. I gradually began to notice things settling down after the anomaly scan, but it did take a while. Always ring if you're worried. It might just be good to have that chat. I rang a couple of weeks ago, but didn't go in as speaking on the phone was helpful.

ditzy I think if you can hold out for your 8 week scan it might be better. I had an early scan due to spotting, and was dated at 6 weeks from that. Luckily I also saw a blob and a heartbeat, but was well aware I might not. I don't know how sure you are of dates? Sometimes ovulating a day late or implantation taking a bit longer can affect things. I do understand how much you want to see something though.
Don't know if this will help but I was not sick once in this pregnancy. I had some quite bad nausea, but even that came and went a bit.

DitzyDonkey · 04/05/2014 23:20

Thank you for the advice re early scans! I think I will bow down to the wisdom of my fellow mumsnetters and leave it until 8weeks!

MrsGiraffe12 · 05/05/2014 07:50

Hi all.

So lovely to see such positive news and posts for the most part!!

nerdy that sounds scary but you did the right thing going in and tell DP to do one next time he's insensitive!!

ditzy and jay in regard to early scans. I've been there in my last pregnancy which ended in mmc. I had a scan at 5 weeks for pain and it was inconclusive but ruled our ectopic. Then went back at 8 weeks as had pain and scan shoes a 5 week pregnancy with slow heartbeat then went back at week 9 which showed 5 week pregnancy with no heartbeat. Had an ERPC next day and was pregnant again by the time the miscarried babies due date 7months later (25th December). I personally found the whole process of early scanning rather scary and traumatic, althought they were needed.

When I found out I was pregnant again this time I asked my gp for an early scan and was told no. When I asked why he said that before 12 weeks just because a scan shows positive result then doesn't mean it will stay positive. When the 12 week scan came around I was a wreck and the scanning lady was wonderful and also said based on my history gp should have referred me for an early scan.

I guess what I'm trying to say is go for the scan if you can cope with the anxiety between them, if not then wait for your NHS ones :-)

As for me: am 22 weeks now. Feeling lots of wiggles and kicks but the dreaded fatigue (12 hours sleep a night and still tired) and heartburn are back again.
Also think the midwife may have been right when she suggested diastasis recti and umbilucal hernia when I had my 16 week appointment. I now have a small lump/swelling about the size of a cherry tomato to the left hand side of my belly button (half in belly half on other side). Whenever I cough or sneeze it pops out then goes back in a bit though I can always feel it when standing up, it disapears when laying down. And it hurts to roll over in bed or so much lifting. Back to the gp I go - fingers crossed it's not one or I'll be back on the elective c section list rather than the vbac / natural labour I have planned as in my trust they aparently repair hernia at same time as section xx

Jays43 · 05/05/2014 08:54

Thanks for all your support.

Ditzydonkey - don't worry too much about nausea. I was hit with nausea at about 5.1/2 weeks. Have have lots of friends with babies and they didn't even feel sick once. Everyone is different. We are both going through the same thing so lets talk lots and keep each other going. Feel free to inbox me i would welcome the conversation to keep me sane.

Mrsgiraffe12- thanks for your advice. It's so hard isn't it to wait the 12 weeks, half of me is thinking if I get that far with no spotting and still strong symptoms then its positive. I think it's because I am on hols during my 12 weeks I just want to seek for some kind of reassurance;( I had the whole early scan thing with worry between each one. So I agree they bring concern but I'm worried anyway this time round so feel I have nothing to lose. Pleased to hear your 22 weeks with your little baby wiggling around. I hope you sort the hernia out must be painful. I was so lucky with my daughter she was so straight forward I never worried about a thing in pregnancy.

nerdy I too have an unsympathetic husband. Mine looks at my despairingly, like 'what now?' When I mention I'm worried. He thinks it's all fine and I should stop worrying Hmm if only it was that easy.

mrsg hope this hernia sorts itself - sounds a bit scary. Bit of a downer as it comes after being allowed to try for vaginal delivery.

Re early scans - I had ones at 6, 8, 9 and 13 weeks. I found they helped. More because my first mmc at 12 weeks the baby had died around 5 wks and I just didn't know it and second was suspected ectopic - so no way I could have got to 12 weeks again not knowing if a) it was in the right place and b) whether it was still alive or was it just a massive sac growing and producing hormones. But each situation is different. EPU offered to scan me to locate preg and then check progression at 8 weeks. 9 weeks was a private scan after a wobble following loss of symptoms. Helped calm me down / temporarily relieve anxiousness!

hey ditzy, sorry to hear you are having a bad day. The time just drags, doesn't it? If only we could fast forward this bit. I had my scan at 6 +3, we saw a heartbeat, and I felt so reassured and happy. Of course, you only get a couple of days of feeling that and then you are straight back to where you were previously. I looked at some stats on the miscarriage association site that said if you see a heartbeat at 8 weeks the likelihood of taking a baby home, so there is definitely something to be said for waiting. Six weeks is just so early- but it is lovely to know at least at this point it is good - knowing I really was pregnant gave me a boost! I'm thinking that I will go for a private scan around 9 weeks if I'm still in the game. Don't worry too much about not feeling many symptoms, it really doesn't mean anything, everyone is different and they can develop at any point.

So, I thought I was about 8 weeks, but given history and erratic bleeding, was waiting for scan.
In my area they won't see you until you are at least 12 weeks, unless referred to EPU by GP with concerns about this pregnancy (I.e. Not on past history)
My DH said last night that he has thought for about 6w or more that I was pregnant, however didn't want to say anything and upset me.
I now have milk, and have had 3 people this weekend ask when I'm due! So maybe I'm further...
Last mc by scan 1st week in jan so can't be any further than this.
Midwife clinic said they won't talk to me until 12 w by LMP, however I have not been regular or bled for more than 2d (mc aside) since ds born 11 years ago, following horrendous csec.
Feeling anxious for all sorts of new reasons.
Still feel pregnant though :-)

ditzy, thinking of you with the waiting game, agree that 8 w scan more useful than 6. I have in the past both looked forward to the reassurance of scans, and then hated that they do no such thing, being stressed out again within a few days. Fingers crossed for everyone x

Re movement. 24 weeks is when you should feel daily movement, patterns by 26-28 weeks. Cautious wording on some websites can cause "maternal anxiety" I've read. Basically, a few weeks after daily obvious kicks, if you have a pattern and it stops, call the mW. But generally I have been advised not to expect this till after 25 weeks.
