I'm 31 weeks tomorrow and people are always quick to ask me if I've got stretch marks yet...

Does everyone get them.....and when??

There's loads of threads about this - generally seems most people get them 38 weeks plus.

highlove · 23/01/2014 18:00

I haven't yet but am expecting them as I got a lot during puberty. But I had my 34 week check today with a new midwife who specifically commented that I hadn't got any yet and lots of people do by now. Not sure that really answers your question though! (And she might just have been being nice as we'd already had a chat about my weight gain and I said I was a bit concerned it was too much.)

SweepTheHalls · 23/01/2014 18:04

I'm afraid between 2 and 6 days overdue! If only he had been on time then I wouldn't have had any!

Crocky · 23/01/2014 18:13

I didn't get any with either of my pregnancies.

Cariad007 · 23/01/2014 18:22

I have some from my teenage growth spurt but at nearly 37 weeks don't have any on my bump. Yet! I've put on about 11lb over my pregnancy so far which isn't too bad, and hopefully I won't put on too much more in the next few weeks, though I am prepared for the worst. I've been putting anti-stretch mark oil (not Bio Oil, just a cheapie from Savers) on the bump too but don't know if that helps that much. I've heard that if you're gonna get 'em you're gonna get 'em!

RalphRecklessCardew · 23/01/2014 18:26

Never.

Writerwannabe83 · 23/01/2014 18:33

I'm liking all these responses, I'm feeling much more positive now Grin

I've put on 21lbs so far and no stretch marks as yet....

I won't mind if I do get them as I accept they are part of pregnancy, but your replies have given me hope that they can be avoided Grin

I didn't get them either.

TheBookThief · 23/01/2014 18:39

Only got them once past EDD- naughty DC Wink

EmmaFreudsGivingMeJip · 23/01/2014 18:42

Mine appeared at 35 weeks on my hips. None on my bump. Not yet anyway.

StillaChocoholic · 23/01/2014 19:00

I only had them on my boobs during pregnancy but almost as soon as I had DS I got them on my belly. Husband commented that only I could get stretch marks AFTER having the baby.

ouryve · 23/01/2014 19:01

I've had stretchmarks since I was 10. Pregnancy just added a few more roads to the map, as it went on.

PinkandPoo · 23/01/2014 19:12

2 pregnancies - no stretch marks

My mum has 4 children and no stretch marks either so it may be genetic...

Writerwannabe83 · 23/01/2014 19:15

That's interesting - my mum didn't get any and nor did my sister with either of her pregnancies (and she got absolutely huge) Grin

3 children, no stretch marks at all. I did rub in oil etc. through pregnancy but I don't think that made the difference.

bionic77 · 23/01/2014 19:22

After DS was born! No stretch marks throughout pregnancy. Once everything had contracted back in to place boom there they were. Gutted as was feeling smug that I'd escaped.

TheDayOfMyDoctor · 23/01/2014 19:24

Around a day after my due date and two weeks before DS was born Angry

chickydoo · 23/01/2014 19:29

4 babies no stretch marks, my mother never had any, neither does my sister....must be in the Genes.
Interestingly we are quite a skinny lot, and put on a couple of stone each time, but the skin just stretched but no marks. Very lucky.

schmalex · 23/01/2014 19:34

Like bionic77, I was feeling smug and then some appeared around my belly button after my DS was born.

Meglet · 23/01/2014 19:34

I didn't get them. DS arrived at 37 weeks and DD arrived at 39 weeks.

Mum never had any and she said her mum didn't get them either.

TheresLotsOfFarmyardAnimals · 23/01/2014 19:37

38+1. DS is 18 months old now and you can't see them anymore. Would still wear a bikini etc. They weren't particularly bad.

Apparently there's a link between tearing in childbirth and stretchies but not sure if it's scientific. I did both though!

TheresLotsOfFarmyardAnimals · 23/01/2014 19:38

My boobs got covered when my milk came in so might be worth putting your cream/oil on the boobs and hips a couple of times a day too.

Lifeisaboxofchocs · 23/01/2014 19:42

2 pregnancies. both seven days overdue. not a stretch mark on me.

Lifeisaboxofchocs · 23/01/2014 19:42

oh yes, no history of stretch marks.

IndigoTea · 23/01/2014 19:45

At 38 weeks.
