Hello ladies! Come and find me! Grin

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
ExpatAl · 15/01/2014 12:20

I agree Motor. If I was mentalling I wouldn't join this thread now.
Keep, I prefer to keep mil talk to FB as I don't know who has recognised me on mn.
To be fair the paediatrician said it should be one tiny portion a day in the afternoon and to continue bf as normal. So it's not really hard core weaning. I am open to adding oil but think I wld research which one to add. I don't intend to start so soon but am dithering a little because they are very up to date here with their medical care and advice....

Anyway, my big news is that I had my work meeting today. I went in with my head all over the place not sure what I would go for and came out having agreed 2 days working from home, 7% pay rise and a nanny when I travel to travel with me until mis 3!'!! I can't quite believe it. This is way better than I hoped for. Am very very happy.

ExpatAl · 15/01/2014 12:27

I use the word 'nanny' loosely. More like a baby sitter, basically someone to keep M entertained while I'm occupied.

OnionRing · 15/01/2014 13:39

Al do you think you could pop over here and do the same for me?!

Well done you though. And the nanny sounds like a great thing to have. How will that work? Will you employ the same person every time you travel?

MrsHY1 · 15/01/2014 14:12

Expat that's great news! Must sweeten the proposition of going back somewhat. X

OP posts:
Dildals · 15/01/2014 14:34

That's fab news! Al

Just wanted to wade in on the baby rice / weaning discussion that MrsHY1 started (you stirrer!). One of the ladies that I know locally, her baby is 10 weeks, but quite large (16lbs) and the HV suggested weaning him to her because, wait for it, her milk wouldn't meet his calorific needs anymore now that he was so big. Haha, what a load of bollox.

I just don't understand that first they advise you to BF for 6 months or a year whatever it is and they after 10 weeks they suggest weaning?! Surely they must understand that that is slightly incongruent? The lady who got this advice is a paediatric nurse and although she doesn't work with babies has enough brain cells to query this advice. Seriously people.

MrsHY1 · 15/01/2014 17:14

Oh BABY rice? I've been feeding mini HY MUELLER rice in an attempt to get her to sleep more. Was that wrong? Grin

OP posts:
Dildals · 15/01/2014 17:29

Bella and I have been cooking meth in the garden shed, I thought it would be good for her chemistry education. She seems to like it? Was that wrong?

ExpatAl · 15/01/2014 17:35

Only if you were listening to rap.

OnionRing · 15/01/2014 19:18

All this just reinforces my prejudice against health visitors. They're often almost dangerously thick.

putthecrispsDOWN · 15/01/2014 20:45

Hey folks. Nothing exciting to add but another not so shite day today which is always nice. They are talking about giving her steroids to tomorrow if the numbers are n the right place which might give her a biological kick up the arse. She is now having decent feeds for a baby on double life support and getting lovely fat fat fatty cheeks which I like to kiss, yum!
Choco I haven't forgotten the horrors of the sickness and nausea. I only put on 4lb in my whole twin pregnancy so have probably lost a lot more overall. Try experimenting to find the random thing you can eat and then eat as much as you can. My foods were salty chips, lemonade, mints or chewing gum and anything lemony which kind of cut through the nausea a bit. On the bad days I'd stick to mashed potato or soup which was a bit kinder on the way back out (sorry). The docs always told me that the babies would get the calories of anything I ate before I did though, and that they would probably grow fine if I manged to drink lots and eat whatever I could cope with. Hope it magically passes at a certain stage for you like I did.
Shazza hope you are better soon, quarantine isn't much fun at all.
Dildals golden retriever made me laugh out loud and get some funny looks here in icu!
Motor good luck for the scan tomorrow, hope the baby is pointing in the right direction and all. I wonder whether you'll have a boy to even out the numbers a bit!
Bumbos recalled? Eek! They are bloody expensive for something that you can only use for about three weeks though. I never left dd1 in hers for long or on her own though.
Al your working arrangements sound ace. As a teacher I can always make myself feel less guilty about working f/t by remembering that I have a quarter of the year off with the kids, but ai'd love to take mine to work with me. I think bfp's gassy dog farts would shut the stroppy teenagers up pronto!
Hello to all preggos, hope that this thread isn't too babyness and that it gives you something to look forward to....foody foody where art thou? And beetle if you are ever lurking I often think of you and send positive vibes and a hello in a generally southern direction.

putthecrispsDOWN · 15/01/2014 20:47

(apologies for alwaaaaaays doing two posts, am too thick to remember everything in one)
Onion...dangerously thick is the best way to describe my hv. D and d were her first set of twins and first prems...she asked if I had one twin and then the other straight after, or if it all stopped and then started again and I had to go through another labour for the second, I shit you not.

MotorcycleMama · 15/01/2014 22:25

Great to hear about another not shit day crisps. I hope not shit turns to good before long.

As for me, I had a midwife appt this afternoon, and was very pleased that she approved my proposed plan for ECS if preliminary induction measures do not work. I just hope the consultant agrees.

Great return to work plan expat - good for you.

Shazzamattazzerly · 16/01/2014 05:59

Good luck today motor. Great result from MW appt

Expat excellent work result! AND a payrise. Well done you.

Dildals and MrsH haha at your grossly inappropriate activities with your babies Wink

Crisps hurrah for Nancy nine lives. That girl has inner strength. Here's to hoping one not shite day follows another.

Keep expressing in the morning would be the best if only shazlett would nap in her basket.

Hello to everyone else.

My snotty baby and I are still quarantined from other babies (although i couldnt resist popping into the nct meet up to catch a sneaky peak at the very gorgeous Ginster Smile) so yesterday we met my acupuncturist for a cup of tea and had a lovely afternoon. I credit the woman with being the 3rd person who made this baby so she is very important to shazlett.

My new obsession is rightmove and house hunting in Bristol. And writing wish lists of the perfect living work/life balance. Just putting it out there for the Universe to take note.

Hvs? Well we all know what I think about my one.....

Ginestas · 16/01/2014 11:46

Just popping in quickly to ask if anyone has any sling recommendations? Sorry I know this has been discussed before, but I can't remember what people liked! I'm not sure I'd use it much outside the house and would like something easy to get on and that will accommodate a long baby!

choco you can get anti nausea meds from the gp. My puke pills took the edge off enough so I could get through the day. I could only stomach crisps and Granny Smiths for a few months! Also anything carb based was good.

motor am hoping the consultant oks your CS plan. But fingers crossed you won't need to be induced.

al that's a bloody amazing deal you negotiated there. Am intrigued by your job that you get a travelling nanny... I shall interrogate you on FB.

crisps so pleased to hear Nancy had another not too shitty day.

shazz lovely to see you and the lovely Nora briefly yesterday. You looked the picture of health :) I too love rightmove property porn

From muller rice to meths eh? Whenever I make up ginster's 1 bottle of formula, I feel like I'm cooking up some drugs for her!

There appears to be a lot of shite HVs about. Ours was actually really nice and sensible!

ExpatAl · 16/01/2014 16:03

Crisps it's fantastic to get updates about NNL & BFP and brilliant that Nancy is putting up such a fight. Are you sure fancy pants chocs from Belgium won't help while away those midnight hours?

Shaz, I'm sure the Universe is listening. Bristol looks really nice. Isn't is supposed to offer a good quality of life? Certainly looks very pretty.

Onion, it doesn't sound at all stupid, but I bet you're feeling pretty good with the extra sleep. How is it at the moment?

Gin, you're going to be so so disappointed. Does Ginster have proportional big head? M is in 90th pc and I just couldn't work out how to fit all of her in a soft sling in the newborn position without suffocating her and my back aching which is why I switched to the manduca. I love it - 2 straps over the shoulder like a rucksack and you're done.

Thanks girls! I knew the boss would want to avoid me going the official route of decreasing my hours (which you're entitled to do here) and I always start early and finish with late conf calks with the US so it's win win for her. The pay rise is very generous though considering I was a chronic skiver as soon as I saw those two pink lines last year. She's a good egg.

SweetieTime · 16/01/2014 17:27

Expat well done on getting the work solution sorted, sounds like you got a good deal. You must have mean negotiation skills.

Crisps hope today has been a good day for Nancy

Shaz why Bristol, have you got connections there? I love looking at house porn on Rightmove.

Motor good luck with the consultant approving ECS.

Noks hope all is going well with Nipper. Cannot wait to see more pictures.

My HV has been today, she seems very nice. She is an exMW so seems knowledgeable and sensible. Twins have both put on 400g each in 10 days. I am really pleased but they both eat really well and are growing out of their tiny baby size babygros. They are only on the 2nd percentile though and have tracked this since birth.
I am back to GP tomorrow to discuss my health & anxiety. My sight is still very poor so I might ask for a referral to a ophthalmologist as I am in BUPA through work so nothing to lose and I am still really anxious about it. I know they have said wait 6 weeks post birth but at nearly 5 weeks I cannot see things miraculously changing in a week.

Shazzamattazzerly · 17/01/2014 05:17

Morning all guess what I'm doing?Wink

Sweets amazing growth from the twinnies. My MW told me that they look for 190g weight gain a week so 400g is phenomenal! Shazlett managed 240. I'm so sorry you are still having health problems. That, on top of newborn twins would be enough to make anyone anxious. I'm glad you are going to get help. Don't stop until you get the answers you need.

Sweets and expat I'm from the West Country about 30 miles from Bristol. We are thinking that Bristol would offer us proximity to my family but not on the doorstep alongside enough culture and art for us to still be inspired and arty farty but in a place that is small enough to cycle or walk around. I'm sick of an hour and a half bus ride to work. Plus of course if I sell my pokey London flat I could buy a 3 bed house with 2 reception rooms and a garden there. Can't wait to 'receive' guests alla Elizabeth Bennet! Location location location was in bristol the other night. That set me off again. Just out of interest I'm also looking near my parents. I really only want to work part time so the nursery of Nanny would be a great help!

Gin thanks for the compliment. I felt dog rough again yesterday. My head felt like it was going to explode. Poor shazlett is also still snotty but not enough to suck. Yesterday she was pretty miserable. We went to visit a work colleague and she cried loads then was spectacularly sick all down my back. Both unusual for her. I saw your shout out to SMN. Shall we go on an adventure to Beckeham to find the sling library? We could take a picnic Smile

Expat how was MIL? I hope Mini al charmed her. One look at those peachy cheeks would melt anyone's heart.

Motor how was your scan?

Noks the nipper is so yummy. I do like a baby with hair Grin

Dildals have a super weekend in holland.

MrsH how is supernanny?
Keep how where naps today? We didn't have one nap in the basket. I don't know why shazlett has an aversion to it during the day but is happy in there at night.

Hello to everyone else.

If it continues to rain we won't go out today. I've got my assessment this afternoon anyway.

MotorcycleMama · 17/01/2014 08:59

Morning shazza. Sorry to hear you and shazlett are feeling rough. It must be difficult to care for a baby when you're not feeling well yourself. I understand that Bristol is an excellent city to live in.

My scan was an ordeal unfortunately, and had to be cut short as I couldn't tolerate lying on my back which seemed to cut off my oxygen supply. By the time they got me extra pillows and raised the head of the couch I was just feeling so ill and panicky (lack of oxygen does that, unsurprisingly!) that they had to stop. My fault for lying there trying not to complain for fear of disrupting this poor trainee's learning! We did learn that minimotor was head down, has healthy looking heart, bladder etc and that amniotic fluid seems fine. His abdominal circumference measurement gives him a gestational age of 30+5, and my bump measures 30 cm when I am actually 31+3, but I can't imagine they are significant deficits.

Got the PILs staying at the moment, and to my surprise it is all relatively easy going. They are kindly decorating the nursery. Still, I look forward to having the house back in order.

sweetie It's no wonder you are anxious when you are trying to care for your twins and your vision is compromised. Sight is such a basic thing which we take for granted. Go down the BUPA route - you have the cover so why not use it? I hope you get it sorted soon, and Im sure your anxiety will reduce if you have answers and a plan. Good news on the twins growth.

OnionRing · 17/01/2014 10:12

Glad to hear Not Shite news about NNL. Let's hope this is an emerging trend...

Good growing from the twinnies sweetie and yes, use your cover to get another appointment.

Sorry you're still ill shazza. I think that Bristol sounds perfect for you and it would surely feel very satisfying to trade a flat for a house.

Scan sounds uncomfortable motor but everything sounds good. Excellent nursery decoration too.

Two people have asked me when I'm back at work already today. It feels like this last three months will fly by.

keepitgoing · 17/01/2014 10:15

congrats on a good scan motor maybe that's why they aren't done late Wink

shaz we are hoping to move house in a month, offer accepted. is gonna be stressful though...

keepitgoing · 17/01/2014 10:19

sweetie that's just brilliant growth Grin I really hope you can sort your vision out that must be awful. how are you managing this week without dh? is your mum still there?

shaz I've decided not to stress about basket naps. most important is that she gets naps. she is changing lots and yesterday was happy for 45 mins on her playmat, so I think she'll gain independence and grow up and it'll be a non issue. dh is on nights at the mo so I'm doing a lot. but we have had a couple of good nights and that's more important to me than where she naps for now. she loves my new sling gin

Shazzamattazzerly · 17/01/2014 19:28

Hello girls

I'm feeding shazlett waiting for DP to come in. We've just had a little massage which was nice. Well for me anyway. I love her squishy little body.

Sorry the scan was abit of a 'mare motor. At least mini motor is ok.

Keep totally agree about naps. Also I just love having her close and this time isn't for long so I'm making the most of it. I'm glad you are both enjoying the sling. I find it so useful. I'm going to explore expats suggestion of the manduca though. The wraps are fine but hit and miss I find and sometimes I tie it too loose and she starts to slump as time goes on. Congrats on the house. Are you staying in the same area?

I'm now obsessed with moving to either Bristol or the country. It's all I've thought about over the past few days. This weekends mission is to tidy the flat and make appts for estate agents to come round.

Onion did you move from a city to your current place? How long ago?

DPs key is in the door so I'm going to sign off. Have a good evening.

putthecrispsDOWN · 17/01/2014 20:58

Evening all.
Shazza my mum lived in Brizzle for a few years before emigrating, it was always lovely down there, especially Clifton and White Ladies area. Mum lived out towards the coast on the way to,Clevedon which is where my brother is getting married later on this year. We used to go to the beach for the evening sometime which was not too far and a lovely thing to do in the summer rather than staying at home. Hope you find something nice, if you can afford a house that big in brizzle then you would probably be able to afford a mansion where we live! Come and be my neighbour in the sticks...in fact sod it, move in to our house if you like as we haven't used it in a month now!
Motor scan sounds good. I struggled a lot with oxygen from about 20odd weeks and scans were a bi scary when I was that close to passing out! Is mini motor actually a boy or do you just say 'he' as a thing of habit?
Yesterday was a shit shit day for NNL...she had to have the whole ecmo circuit changed as they only last for a couple of weeks and then get a bit foggy and cloggy in the tubes where the blood moves. It was quite a Big Deal but she did really well and managed to get on to the new circuit ok. It involved basically taking her off the bypass and putting her on a new one, and some patients just don't tolerate the new circuit. Apparently it will set her back a few days which feels as though it will undo the tiny little bit of progress she has made but it had to be done. Her x ray actualky stayed the same when it as supposed to get worse because of the circuit change, so maybe there was some net gain underneath it all perhaps. I had a bit of an 'I just want to go home' day yesterday but feel much more upbeat today. If she can avoid bleeds (a bit common nasty side effect of the ecmo use) and other infections then I really think she can pull through. We are looking at a couple more months in hospital at least, then maybe feeding and speech and respiratory problems but will deal with it all in good time. Right now I just want some good news for a change, and next week would be ace if she could manage it. She does look a lot better and more pink since the change to be fair. we havent been able to visit much today as the ward has been closed for emergency ops on some of the other patients...a timely reminder to us that despite current shitness, there is still always someone in a worse position, so we have said a quiet prayer for the rest of the ward today and their parents.

Hope y'all good ladies babies. Am going to try to reinstall fb just to snoop at Nancynoks, who I bet is absolutely delicious! Night all X

Shazzamattazzerly · 17/01/2014 21:40

Hi crisps

I remembered that you said that your bro lived in Brizzle. We don't know how much we can afford yet. Our mortgage will be a pittance so it depends how much I can flog this place for.

I just wanted to say that you are an inspiration. Your posts are so positive and generous given your circumstances. It sounds quite a day for NNL. Even a tiny improvement is a step in the right direction. I know she is still so delicate but it sounds positive so I hope and pray that she continues to make progress. Is it nice having your mum stay? Does Dd1 go to school? I'm sorry I can't remember.

We are going to try to give shazlett her first bottle tonight. I managed to express 130ml. It was strange. I felt like a cow.
