Hello ladies! Come and find me! Grin

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Dildals · 14/01/2014 08:58

Re DTD - we did it a couple of nights ago and it was the first time it didn't hurt. So that's after 5 months giving birth to a mini-baby. Naturally my bits are v delicate and petite, or as Noks likes to refer to them 'bucket fanny' :-). Assuming I am fairly normal you may want to managed DH's expectations!

crisps WhatEVER are you implying?! Are you implying Bella's farts stink?!

Let's put it this way, we refer to her as the golden retriever some times ...

I did actually ask the paed whether it was normal, he said she prob gulps in air when she feeds whic then goes stale inside her body. Prem babies do suffer from gas a lot more, but TBH I thought everyone was woken up every morning to a dawn chorus of baby farts. I am surprised that gro bag of her hasn't combusted. (I couls talk about Bella's farting habit all day, it's hilarious)

Also babies that are on Infantrini (hi calorie formula) do the most ridiculously foul farts. What's Nancy on?

Did you still get my msg on FB by the way, if you deleted the app?

Noks you do have to enlighten us how they didn't know nipper was breech?! Did they not do a scan?! Even without a scan it should be effing midwifery 101. Shocking.

I laughed out loud yesterday re mouldy norks, started Bella who had dozed off on the boob and had to explain to DH. I sleep with bra on too and no mould. I do give them a good wash every day though.

I'll tell you smth else though, TMI alert, my belly button has obvs been stretched quite a bit and has a different shape now somehow and defo requires more rigourous and frequent cleaning action! You might want to have a little peek down there!!!

On that classy note I will leave you to get on with your days!!

keepitgoing · 14/01/2014 09:57

I too have sucked out snot with my mouth

go Nancy I keep it up!!!

noks what a crappy labour. how could they not realise she was breech? here's yet another Nails award. hope you get home soon and get on OK with those crazy first few days x

buzz and ceara over to you...

keepitgoing · 14/01/2014 09:58

also wear bras 24/7. I see no mould Smile

ExpatAl · 14/01/2014 10:23

Keep I salute you, snot hero.

M has been napping for an hour. I could have done something productive. had a shower even! (stinky emoticon) but have been watching Dr Phil and Crossing Jordan and drinking lots of coffee.

I have a question. Mini Al is getting restless in her chair and wants to sit up.she's always leaning forward wanting to get going. Of course if I let go she flops on to her face. Do I just put her on the floor and let her get on with it? I was thinking of getting a donut for her to sit inside. it will give her some support but she can crack on with her toys. Is that a good idea?

Dildals · 14/01/2014 10:26

crisps also remember Bella started to smell decidedly gamey because she had never had a bath yet and was marinating herself in baby fart smell in that incubator!

shazz no contraception here. Breastfeeding exclusively, not having any periods, so chances small, although my neighbour is pregnant with no6 while breastfeeding. But she's a baby machine. Her fella is not impressed.

Dildals · 14/01/2014 10:27

expat Those donuts look pretty good. I sit Bella up in the breastfeeding pillow. Works for now. (Bella is obvs not as good at sitting up as M).

fairypangolin · 14/01/2014 12:24

Had a shower this morning and checked thoroughly for nork mould. I occasionally went without my bodysilk (should these be renamed 'yoni warrior armour'?) at night because i was getting skin irritation but gave up due to damp sheets. BTW I have found the reusable breast pads much better than the disposables, which are horribly scratchy.

shazza I'm sorry your hives have come back. This weekend I came down with what I thought at first was an epidemic of flea bites but now I think it is some sort of allergic reaction, which made me think of your hives. I have itchy bumps all over my legs and arms. I've always had sensitive skin but never something like this. It is so hard to pin down what could be causing it as you say. I can't think of anything unusual I ate or exposed myself to on the weekend but perhaps it was linked to my mastitis- my immune system just spazzed out? Puzzling.

noks I have to say that you are amazing! You get the 'shogun of labour' award for what you've been through. Like the others I don't understand how they could have not realised Nancy was breech (does her bum feel like her feet?) but thank god they did figure it out before any serious complications arose. I hope you are taking it easy now - do you have a helpful mum coming?

gin I'm really quite amazed at your neighbour's peace offering but that's fantastic! We have horrible neighbours but they haven't yet made any complaints about P crying, although she doesn't tend to cry at night.

On that topic, P had a brilliant night and slept from 8-6am, then came into bed with me for a feed and a cuddly snooze until DS came barreling in demanding cereal. Luckily my bosoms were fine and the mastitis seems to have cleared up.

motor I hope the next 9 weeks go quickly! The great thing is that spring will be blooming when you get to stop working, it's such a lovely time to have a baby.

hello to everyone else, especially the newbies.

ExpatAl · 14/01/2014 17:01

I'm so glad to hear about the general lack of mould on this thread and am happy to report that my norks too are fresh and fragrant.

Am stunned too Noks that a breech presentation was missed. Unbelievable. Amazing that you got through it all by apparently just biting on a twig.

Dildals,M isn't particularly good at sitting up. She can't stay upright unaided. I use the bf pillow too and she looks like a drunk - one arm propping her up on the edge and gradually slumping to one side.

Can you believe that I've asked a weaning question?! It's amazing how these months have whizzed by and I don't like it. Today M realised she can take her socks off. It was entertaining but is probably going to get old very quickly. That's another reason for keeping them in onesies until they're in their teens.

Yes, where are the newbies? This time last year I was 6 weeks pregnant and a WRECK and that continued until M was safely in my arms. There isn't one bit of mad mentalling that one of us can't identify with. Let it all out...

keepitgoing · 14/01/2014 18:37

why would you give her oil, al?! a year huh? you joined us I think at 17 weeks, I remember me at 5 weeks being vv jealous of you and Mariana/onion. who did you mental on till you found us?

newbies I feel a bit bad the thread is so baby focused. I'm sorry if you don't feel you can post here and we'd understand if it'd be easier to have a breakaway group/new thread. but we'd visit. I just think that it is so lovely to have a group like this who understand the crazy. we've been through a lot together and it has been so helpful through spotting cramps braxton hicks labour and now clueless parenting.

ExpatAl · 14/01/2014 19:42

Keep, are you talking about he weaning thread? That's what I was told to do - olive or calzo oil.
I mentallled all over the place. Didn't really dare mention the pregnancy out loud and was waiting for the cervix scan. Was I really 17 weeks? Wow, you have a good memory!

ExpatAl · 14/01/2014 19:43

I see nobody answered :-(

chocolocodowninacapulco · 14/01/2014 20:09

Hey everyone, I'm here lurking, yes, always here!

noks huge congrats lovely, so happy for you Smile

crisps I'm really pleased that there have been some signs of improvement for Nancy

shazza sorry things are a little tough with money and that you're feeling emotional

motor wow, only 9 weeks to go!

gin I should bloody well think your neighbour did bring you chocolate, the biatch.

waves to everyone else. Sorry I haven't been posting, it's knackering being back at work and I basically feel nauseous from the moment I get up until I go to bed, bleurgh!I have lost nearly a stone as I can't eat normal meals...any tips?

I had my booking in appointment last Friday, which was all good and then I have my scan on Friday at 9+2, terrified doesn't cover it. Any hands to hold please?!

keepitgoing · 14/01/2014 20:14

something like that al, pretty sure you were pre 20 weeks. oil doesn't sound like the nicest introduction to solids. is that a Belgian thing or everywhere. maybe that's not a very busy board...

oh choco we all have your hand. but wait, I think you had a scan already or am I mad? it's just horrible waiting for them.

keepitgoing · 14/01/2014 20:15

I remember onion only had two weeks to go and was mentalling and we were mostly at the other end and mentalling Grin

ExpatAl · 14/01/2014 20:32

The oil is mixed into the veg. I guess it's for essential fatty acids?

OnionRing · 14/01/2014 22:47

I was extremely mental. I'm much less mental these days.

Can't keep up as I've been busy all day. So very pleased to hear about Nancy I's improvement though. Fingers crossed for more of that please.

Love dd1s questions too. Mine is obsessed with dead cats at the moment, oh and bums, knickers, trumps and unicorns.

choco can you eat crackers and cheese - bland stuff like cream crackers, butter and mild cheddar or Dairylea? That's what I used to eat when nauseous and trying to gain weight. And maize based snacks of course. Virtual hand holding here, you know there's no reason to think anything is wrong don't you? ^^

noks hope you're in the happy baby bubble and are knitting back together after the sawing in half business.

Al I found the inflatable donut thing useful for about a week then R learned to sit up herself with just an ordinary cushion behind her. We had a Bumbo too but they've been recalled so I mustn't recommend them. She kept falling out of it anyway. Whatever this oil business is sounds revolting.

dildals love gamey Bella! Poor stinky babies. Ringlet reeks when she's constipated. I don't mind though as I have sucked her snot so have a high tolerance for her emissions. Sometimes when I'm holding her I feel her tense up and fart on me, she then looks at me happily.

Glad your mastitis has gone fairy. I dreaded that but never actually got it. I'm actually suffering severe nork shrinkage though. I've gone from an F cup to a C in just a few weeks. They are sad little efforts now and I'm wondering whether they'll ever recover. At least they're not mouldy I suppose.

This is nuts but I can't sleep as ringlet is actually in her cot and I miss her! Argh. I can never confess this to DH or anyone else.

OnionRing · 14/01/2014 22:49

Oh and I have hives all over my left wrist. I HATE them and their total randomness. I usually get them on my face though so mustn't grumble.

OnionRing · 14/01/2014 22:58

My posts are getting increasingly intimate.

Apologies.

gin I had an enormous episiostomy and was petrified of DTD for months, I think it was four months before I even dared. It was back to normal by about six months but it was actually the fear that was worse than the reality. I think the inevitable Bucketing of the Fanny probably actually helps. My DH is probably shagging a student a very patient man.

Shazzamattazzerly · 15/01/2014 04:55

Hello girls

I missed you yesterday. We are still in quarantine so instead of sitting on my (ever expanding) arse all day and responding to Fb the moment I get a notification, I shoved shazlett in a sling and got loads done! Made soup, did loads of washing, tidying up, chopped dinner ready to cook when DP got home and lots of other little jobs that are much too boring to note. Any road up, this day of activity meant that my interneting was curtailed somewhat. Don't worry, probs won't happen again Smile

I also took shazlett to the drs. She was absolutely SCREAMING for hrs in the morning which is very unlike her and dr google said to call the dr if a baby is under 3 months and has a cold. Happy to report that he didn't laugh in my face or send me packing telling me not to be so paranoid but wAs very sweet and talked me through all the checks he made. He said he always prefers to see a baby that is this small just in case. She is fine and he sent me home with an interesting article about childhood fever ( mainly meningitis) that he printed off for me.

Thanks for the non mouldy norks reports. I think it was fAiry who said about getting a skin irritation. That's what started me off asking. My skin is abit sore around the band but like you I will leak everywhere so am persevering (and washing them periodically).

And thanks for the contraception advice. I still haven't taken the pill. We have done it twice so far and shazlett was in the basket. It was weird to hear her breathing but I didn't mention it as I thought it would spoil the moment Wink. The first time was amazing. Like it was the first time ever. DP kept saying he couldn't believe it was happening! It hadn't been THAT long!

What else? Oh yes hard core parenting awards go to onion and keep for the snot sucking. Dr said that he had no experience of sucking snot when i asked and told me to use the spray if necessary. Did you suck snot when you could see it in her nostrils? Shazlett's nostrils are clear but I can hear the snot rattling around in her chest and she sniffs occasionally. But she is feedimg normally so I've left it so far.

When do you think I can rejoin society without feAr of giving the lurgy to beautiful babies? My Nct girls are meeting today and after cancelling all social engagements since Thursday I'd like to go but I don't want to make anyone sick.

Hurrah that nancy nine lives had a not shite day. C'mon little one we are cheering you on.

Noks how is our latest beauty? Can't believe there is another girl. Sweetie and Clara's boys have the pic of a bevy of beauties.

I am the resident thread hive expert having suffered from chronic urticaria (fancy name for hives) for 3 and a half years. Many many tears have been shed along with chastising myself and trying to be grateful that I have nothing more severe wrong with me. Hives are totally miserable and I sympathise with anyone who suffers there are websites for sufferers and i think even the NHS site says that suffering from long term hives is as stressful and debilitating as having heart disease such is the stress and the impact on the quality of the sufferers life. I used to be up and down from my desk at work to go to the loo to put cold water on my inflamed and itchy body and try in vain to cover up the itchy bumps on my face. Anyway enough of that. Fairy chances are the hives you describe are acute (ie wont last linger than 6 weeks) and are caused by a reaction to food, medicine, cream or an immunity blip. If they don't clear up seek advice and hopefully they won't tell you that there is nothing they can do and you could have them for the rest of your life.

Expat miniAl is weaning? She will be straying uni soon! What's this oil business? And what are you all doing on other threads? You mean there are other people out there who might be able to advise? Why do I need another thread when we've got Wise Mother Onion Smile

Dildals you crack me up with reports of farty bella. How can something so rank come from such a sweet girl?

Gin fair doos on your calm response to the ridiculous neighbour. I think I would have emptied my nappy bin on her doorstep which might have fuelled the situation somewhat. I hope to see you later today (shuffles off to google how long is a cold contagious for )

Chocco welcome back. Waiting fit a scan is mind bending. Sorry about he sickness. I can't help I'm afraid as thankfully I didn't suffer from it but bland crackers sound like good advice.

Im trying to remember if I've missed anything. I'm on the app so can't scroll back. I should go back to sleep anyway cause I'm missing out on my window of nap.

Just quickly to those struggling to get babies to sleep. I've discovered the Mumsnet rules app. It has 'soothing sounds' and shazlett zonks out to ocean mixed with white noise. Sounds awful but it works. This was the soundtrack to our DTD the other day.

And on that note I'll leave you til morning. Xx

Shazzamattazzerly · 15/01/2014 04:57

Oh and what's this about bumbos being recalled? Darn it. No wonder the Streatham mum sold hers off cheap. Stupid me.

MotorcycleMama · 15/01/2014 07:09

choco here's a hand to hold! Early scans are terrifying, but you and baby will be just fine. You are so sick you've lost a stone in weight, which is surely a sign of a healthy progressing pregnancy. I had no early pg symptoms at all, so no tips from me re eating, sorry.

crisps really good to hear that Monday was not such a shit day for Nancy - I imagine that counts for a lot at the moment. I hope yesterday was not so shit too, and that today is better still.

keep I'm missing not only the newbies but the preggos too. I think this thread is great and supportive but is naturally morphing into a mums with young babies thread. It will probably need to lose the 'pregnant' from it's title at some point soon unless we get an influx of newbies. Maybe a new preggo thread should be set up (but not by me cos I tried that in early pregnancy and it didn't really get off the ground). I lurk on the March antenatal thread, but it lacks the sense of comaraderie, cohesion and real support that this thread has.

OnionRing · 15/01/2014 07:12

Babies fall out of them and people were putting them on tables and kitchen work tops and babies had fallen off them too. You were supposed to send off for a strap to hold them in but they could still tip them over. I used one but never unsupervised. They are good for the brief stage between wanting to sit and being able to sit.

I sucked the snot when it was in the entrance to her nostrils. Very gently of course.

As I've said before shazza, sympathies on the hives. It must be awful.

Shazzamattazzerly · 15/01/2014 07:57

Thanks onion. I'm still trying to find a solution. I can't stay pregnant as a way not to have hives!

Bummer about the bumbo. I would also never leave her unsupervised and what stupid people to put them up high.

NHS website says colds are contagious for as long as you have symptoms so About 2 weeks. I'll stay on snot watch. Thanks for the tip onion.

Motor not long to go now. So exciting. Remind me, do you know the gender or are you having a surprise?

You are right about this thread. I looked at the November antenatal thread for a while but there were so many people and they were all buying prams at 8 weeks and I couldnt cope. I'm so grateful to have found you all. I feel that genuine friendships have been formed here. I chat to you all much more than in RL. its a fair point about the thread though now that there are more mums than preggos we are probably impostors in 'pregnancy'. Maybe our reluctance to move into ''parenting' is related to our inability to believe that this is actually happening. Abit like why we started this thread. We could shift our baby related chat to Fb. If Those who aren't on could join. It's also private and not open to the entire world!Grin

In other news I'm proudly sporting my first baby nail related injury. In a screaming fit shazlett grabbed my face and now I have a red scratch on my upper lip.

keepitgoing · 15/01/2014 09:21

shaz I express in the morning. why do it at night?! defeats the point.. although s is ow going off the bottle plus has been v windy and uncomfy so we've not done it lately.

motor a late scan tomorrow will be fan! though you'll see less on a way as babyll be so big. hope it's head down getting ready. bet you can't wait to finish work. which thread did you start that failed? didn't see that one. anyway you'll be a mummy v shortly! :)

also the an threads have so many people on them they are much less personal.

if I had to eat pureed veg and oil I think I'd rather stick to milk, al!how on earth has your mil not met her granddaughter till now?? hope it's going well and she's not too judgy (mil) and well behaved (m)

MotorcycleMama · 15/01/2014 12:07

shazza we don't know the sex as yet, as I prefer to keep it a surprise (though hardly a surprise, as it's either one or the other!) Please don't feel the need to take baby care talk to FB - this thread is a gem, I just think it maybe it needs to be re-named to reflect the content and membership a bit better. Sorry about the hives!

keep I started an early pregnancy after IVF thread to cover the very uncertain weeks post BFP and pre-12 week scan, as I didn't feel ready to join a full blown preggers thread. There were a few of us, but it didn't really sustain.

It would be great to hear from buzzy madness foodie llw etc. I hope you fellow pregnant ladies are doing ok, and apologies to anybody I have missed.
