Open to all elderberry grads and anyone who fits the berry criteria: over 30, first trimester(ish) with #1 after trying for a long time, and nervous as hell. Come on in for handholding and nub theory!

Is that going to be before mine then merk? Mines 5th nov

Jenologist · 10/10/2013 18:13

Thanks merk and boom for the dates explaination! It's the first two weeks thing I find weird, since I deffo wasn't diffed then!
Good to hear the clothes worked out merk, not in need of any yet, but am quite excited about getting some.

Congratulations to puppy on 6 weeks today, so exciting.

kitty hope the docs was ok, I found it a little underwhelming, but nice to have it "official"

CatsCantFlyFast · 10/10/2013 18:18

Mines the 6th

Thundercatsarego · 10/10/2013 18:31

Oh merk I was hoping we might be on the same day then!

CatsCantFlyFast · 10/10/2013 18:48

I quite like you're ahead of me so you get to test the water and I know what to expect.
Midwife app for me tomorrow, FX I get doppled!

Thundercatsarego · 10/10/2013 18:53

Oo I'm sure you will merk. The appointment is fine - if I wasn't nervous about it it must be fine. You going to be worried about the scan? I think I'm a scanophobe...

BelissimaLol · 10/10/2013 18:54

Oh thund it will be a busy week for you almost talked about other stuff happening that week but suddenly realised it might be private and not appropriate for mn
Mmm I can see where you are coming from regarding it being late. I can't actually remember how far along I was on mine but I do remember trying to delay it a week due to holiday and being told it was not a good idea in case I needed a re-scan. Maybe best ask your mw or lovely boom!
I can't bear the mystery of you lot not finding out the sex though!

CatsCantFlyFast · 10/10/2013 18:55

Yeah I'm a scanophobe too. I just think the worst. However once I've seen baby is ok I want them to carry on for ages!

Thundercatsarego · 10/10/2013 19:03

Yeah I might give them a ring, thanks lol. Isn't it just me and boom not finding out the sex?

The thing that worries me about this scan is the fact it takes half an hour of doing measurements and checks- that seems like lots of scope for things to be wrong.

CatsCantFlyFast · 10/10/2013 19:41

Friends wife just went for 12 week scan and ended up dated at over 20 weeks Shock

MotherOfCleo · 10/10/2013 20:43

wow merk thats crazy!

thunder I wish I could do the 20 week scan again, it was amazing how much they could see. Grin

BlindKitty · 10/10/2013 21:30

jen yes VERY underwhelmed! Although we only had a 5 min appointment (I saw the woman after me was booked 5mins later!!!)

Got our first midwife appointment at home! Is that normal? I only do home visits to patients that are bed bound!!! Wondered if it was like when cats protection come and check your house before letting you have a kitten...Wink

BlindKitty · 11/10/2013 07:07

Got soooo many baby presents to buy you know! We have 5 friends expecting before us! Went to boots yesterday and raided their sales rack - got 7 little outfits for £26, which should have been £74! Figured any I don't use I might have to keep....

Boomgoestheweasel · 11/10/2013 07:52

Sorry all, was out all day and crashed and burned when I got home! So lame...

Thunder the scan is usually between 18 and 21 weeks, but I see no reason why it couldn't be done at a later gestation..it's looking for structural problems, and they can still be picked up later. I think it's just easier for the sonographer to get an overview when the baby isn't too big. I've had ladies go for their scan after 21 weeks because the hospital was too busy (also never heard of someone having to go back for a second anatomy scan because the baby was in the wrong position. Nuchal yes, anatomy no). Does that help?

Oooh kitty get you with your home visit! You must live somewhere posh Grin no chance in hell you'd get that round our way! I had to go to the hospital for mine. Got my flu jab coming up on Saturday, has anyone else had it?

Is everyone else except thunder finding out sex? Glad you're not then thunder, nice to have a mystery buddy.. I'm also a scanophobe. Preparing for meltdown prior to next week's nuchal...

Merk eek imagine rocking up for 12 week scan and finding out you're halfway to the finish line! Did she only have a mini-bump?

Am currently scoping out maternity jeans, they all seem to be skinny which are no good for me with my hefty thighs and knock knees. New Look looking likely at the moment, £15 for overbump bootcuts. Might bite the bullet and order them..

Oh and btw, if anyone's in the Leeds area they've got a 3D scan offer for £39 on Groupon at the moment.

Oo well done on the shopping kitty

merk that is unbelievable! It must be overwhelming to be fast forwarded so much but also fantastic to have whizzes through this bit unawares.

Cool boom, thank you that is helpful. I'm now wondering whether to see if I can reschedule it for earlier anyway. As some of you know I've got a bit of an ahem...party... The weekend before... And it would be great to have this out of the way so I can relax and enjoy it. But then again if it's not all alright, do I want to know just before the...party..?!

I guess there's not much chance of being able to change it anyway- any thoughts?

Boomgoestheweasel · 11/10/2013 08:50

I think if you lie and say you're away they'll have to reschedule it for you. I'd phone the appointment number if there's one on the letter, they're usually pretty good at understanding. Just stretch the truth and say that the, erm, party is actually starting a little earlier than it is!

OP posts:
Thundercatsarego · 11/10/2013 09:08

I could say I'm going away straight after the party? I think done people do do that! Reckon it would help my clearly psychotic brain to get it over with?

Boomgoestheweasel · 11/10/2013 09:17

Got to be worth a go, if they've got any slots they might try and fit you in!

OP posts:
Thundercatsarego · 11/10/2013 09:20

It's done. 22nd Oct. Waaa now that is proper scary! Thanks boom x

Brodicea · 11/10/2013 09:57

Thanks for the cake advice merk I've passed it on to my grateful colleague!

22nd thunder oooer!

Boomgoestheweasel · 11/10/2013 10:16

Oh yay! Glad it worked Grin but bloody hell, can't believe you're having your 20wk scan so soon! it's that time warp again

OP posts:
Thundercatsarego · 11/10/2013 10:37

Now I'm worrying it will be too early- I'll be 18+5. Know of any issues with being on the early side?

God I worry about everything! And boom it will seem more warpy because it won't be at 20 weeks.

Foodylicious · 11/10/2013 10:52

God, all these scans seem so very far away, am 5 weeks today and struggling to let myself feel excited. Have not phoned for 8wk MW appt yet, keep putting it off.

CatsCantFlyFast · 11/10/2013 11:23

Guess who forgot to pimp this morning for the midwife (I'd been told to take FMU). Ah well, hoping smu is ok! Also couldn't find my pot! Out of practise...
Appointment at 12:50 then a hugely busy afternoon of collecting and wrapping pressies for DH and finishing the cake and delivering it to the restaurant and then getting ready to go for dinner. Will be exhausted by 7.30.
Thunder - any tips for my midwife appointment? Any questions I should ask? Anything I should be prepared for?

Thundercatsarego · 11/10/2013 11:29

Hey merk, I had quite lengthy convo about the fmu thing with my midwives and they were very clear that it doesn't matter if it's not fmu. At mine they prefer it to be after a shower so no risk of bacteria getting in there too from not being clean (yum). They all said that if you forget you can just pee there and then and it will still work. It's just to dip for protein anyway but I guess they like it stronger if they can.

No other advice really, mine was pretty quick- she did blood pressure, asked about nuchal results, weedipped and then Doppled. We had a chat about 20 week scan and that was that. Very relaxed and straightforward.

So is the cake a football? How's it going?
