Open to all elderberry grads and anyone who fits the berry criteria: over 30, first trimester(ish) with #1 after trying for a long time, and nervous as hell. Come on in for handholding and nub theory!

Meant to ask Thunder, are you moving house (cos of the packing)?
We have had an offer accepted on a house so all systems go. Staying in Surrey but just a different town.
Tonight I'm home alone and waiting impatiently for my ASOS delivery of maternity clobber. Shall update if when it arrives as to whether it is all horrible, too big, mumsy etc
Anything good on tv tonight as I don't have to argue over the remote with DH!

Jenologist · 09/10/2013 19:07

Wow, thanks for the warm welcome ladies!

Sounds like everyone has had a busy day, especially poppy. Congratulations on team pink! Had a weird un-pregnanty day, keep prodding my boobs to see if they're still sore. Can't wait till it all seems more real.
Boom, the reason for dates confusion is the total lack of business for the 2 weeks immediately after my last period. It was 7th aug, lasted a week, then DH was away for a week. So although I'm officially 9 wks today, I know I can't be. Am impatiently waiting the date for my first scan!
Good luck with the maternity clothes merk, think H&M might do reasonable stuff (not that I've been looking!)

CatsCantFlyFast · 09/10/2013 21:51

Jen if your lmp was 7th Aug til 13 Aug and your OH was away w/c 14 Aug til 20 Aug then that adds up... Obviously I know nothing about your cycle but in the average cycle you would O 14 days after the start of the cycle in which case you would have O'd around 20th/21st Aug. And that is the average cycle, if you Od on day 16 or 17 then the dates still add up. When did OH get back?
At the end of the day it won't really matter as they will count you from your LMP regardless (eg they ignored the fact that I know I conceived later than day 14) and then will re date you at your 12 week scan. Plus it's really not a science, it seems implantation can add or take off days here and there so I think you will be there or thereabouts right with 9 weeks
I am still waiting for my delivery to arrive. Due before 10 and its now 9:50. Will be cross if it doesn't arrive because I wanted to go to bed an hour ago!

BelissimaLol · 09/10/2013 22:19

Has it come merk?

CatsCantFlyFast · 09/10/2013 22:36

Yup! And surprisingly good. Was expecting to have to send a lot back but there's only 1 dress I will return due to size (more like a 12 than a 10). And a blazer I'm not sure on as its v thin (more like shirt material). Otherwise its all really good - a new look maternity knee length black jersey dress (which definitely emphasises the bump!), another blazer, lots of blouses and a pair of jeans. Other than the dress its all ASOS own label maternity. Jeans are a great fit and nice and long. Blouses are roomy but because my boobs are bigger it doesn't look like they're too big, and all of them are easily long enough to cover the stretchy jeans waistband. So all in all feeling v pleased.

Thundercatsarego · 10/10/2013 06:49

Pleased that delivery worked out well merk

Re moving, we may be but the packing reference was old. Just sold the house I was renting out and are now looking at other houses to buy locally. The pressure is on!

Head is so so sore. I feel like crap. Sad
That'll teach me for trying to be positive last week.

PuppyMummy · 10/10/2013 06:54

morning berries!

6 weeks today! yippee! (can u tell im having an up day!) apparently bean is the size of a pea!

shopping sounds good merk I just got a new pair of dog walking/snow boots for winter that are insulated but water proof so will be better than wellies!

BlindKitty · 10/10/2013 07:01

puppy yey for up days! Is it becoming more real now? Still totally recommend an earlier scan (if you have cash and time before your hol). I'm 100 times more chilled now!

Well must get ready for first docs appt. it was 17 months ago that we first went to her for our fc referral and haven't seen her since! She prob won't even remember us lol

Boomgoestheweasel · 10/10/2013 07:09

Morning berries!

Yay Puppy six weeks Grin isn't that when the heart starts pumping? Exciting!

Sorry all, I thought I'd posted last night after work but obviously forgot to press send before passing out. In a nutshell:

Poppy so pleased all is well, time to relax! And a girl, eee!

Jeno yep, your dates sound right, technically you're considered pregnant for two weeks before you're actually pregnant. Got to love the system.

Thunder I had the littlest hobo theme toon in my head ALL BLOODY NIGHT. Blaming you! Hope your head feels better soon though x

Am making porridge. Yesterday I burnt it because I was reading the penis beaker thread, hoping for a better result today!

Boomgoestheweasel · 10/10/2013 07:10

Why are you going to the doc Kitty?

OP posts:
BlindKitty · 10/10/2013 08:28

boom just for our midwife referral. Is that not the norm? Think mn was playing up last night so you prob did press send (must have crashed with the penis dunking thread haha)

PoppySeedBun · 10/10/2013 09:06

Puppy congrats on 6 weeks!
kitty good luck with docs today - I did the same, saw GP first.

thunder hope your head improves. I've been getting more headaches the past week or so, though fortunately I feel like my energy might be starting to come back as well.

boom well, you must be, erm, about 75% likely to have at least one girl, so you can be team pink too! though if anyone buys anything pink for me or this baby I will scream

merk glad clothes mostly worked out. Will have to do a bit of shopping myself this week.

Still struggling to start thinking of this as a 'she' and a baby, rather than an 'it' and a pregnancy. Part of me is still feeling quite cautious and part wants to be really happy and excited now it's 'real' enough to tell people.

Thundercatsarego · 10/10/2013 09:50

kitty we don't need to see gp, we ring midwife ourselves down here to register on the system.

puppy, great for 6 weeks! It goes SOOOOO slow doesn't it?!

boom sorry about the song...kind of. Do you know Toms Diner by Suzanne Vega? I find that is a real brain-sticker. Do do do do, do do do do.....

Boomgoestheweasel · 10/10/2013 09:55

Ha poppy I like your treatment of the stats to wangle me into Team Pink! I don't think we're going to find out, so I'll be Team Undecided for now Grin although for some reason I feel like they're both boys...(but then I'm always wrong so watch me have two girls!) Wish it was 'real' here. It's getting to the point I really want to tell people but still have a week to wait for my scan/nuchal/consultant appt and then even longer for the results of the nuchal, so I probably won't be able to say anything for another two weeks by which time it will most likely be very obvious anyway

Ah Kitty of course, for some reason I thought you'd already had your booking!

Merk glad you've had some clothing success! Having had my grumble about lack of bump, I went to work last night in my normal work jeans and felt like I was going to pop out of them. So maybe it's time to make the investment..

Anybody a cake making expert? Making a ball (spherical) cake this afternoon and obviously getting the icing smooth is going to be tough. Torn between buttercream and fondant and wondered if anybody had any bright ideas!

PoppySeedBun · 10/10/2013 16:37

Sounds like a challenge, merk!
Properly spherical or half a sphere, so there's a flat bit on the board?
Defo not an expert, but it sounds like fondant might be the way to go. Maybe look at Swedish princess cakes - also popular in US. They have a dome of whipped cream on a cake, then all covered with fondant/marzipan.

CatsCantFlyFast · 10/10/2013 16:41

Yep a proper sphere... a ball. cake in oven now and just about to make a large quantity of icing to pipe grass!!

Brodicea · 10/10/2013 16:46

Wow merk sounds like a challenge! We were discussing how one could make a proper pyramid cake (not one that just went up in stepped stages, but one that was smooth) as a colleague's son had requested one for his birthday...

Let us know how you get on

CatsCantFlyFast · 10/10/2013 17:05

Pyramid cake = 3 square cakes layered on top of each other (depending on how high you want it), and cut to shape. Actually pretty easy - once cakes are stacked (with buttercream) and fully cooled, just cut to shape with a bread knife. Then you need 1 or 2 crumb coats of icing before icing fully smooth.
I suspect I'll be wishing I was doing a pyramid soon!
Aim is to cook and crumb coat the cake, and ice the grass on the cake board tonight before DH gets home. Then have to hide it in the car overnight (so the icing doesn't go soft) and retrieve tomorrow afternoon to ice the ball properly and construct!
I have a habit of throwing cakes away if they are not perfect enough and I suspect this one may end up in the bin!

Thundercatsarego · 10/10/2013 17:47

boom I need midwifey advice! Are you there?

CatsCantFlyFast · 10/10/2013 17:49

You ok Thunder?

Thundercatsarego · 10/10/2013 17:53

Oh yeah- sorry no panic. I'm fine, just got scan date through and 20 week scan seems to have a window - 18-20+6weeks. Lots of the midwifes said if the baby's not in the right position you need to come back another day.

My scan is when I'll be 20+5 so if I need to come back it will be out of that window. I just wondered if this is likely to be a problem or not

Worry worry worry!

CatsCantFlyFast · 10/10/2013 18:00

Ok I shall stop panicking now!
I have as much of myself invested in all the other berry babies as I do my own!!
