Hi Ladies,

Can I just ask how many cycles you had to go through until you got your BFPs??

Thanks in advance x x

About 4 months for us, which mentally took us from "oh c I might be pg", to "oh it would have been nice to be pg", to "oh I'm really disappointed I'm not pg", to "oh s I am pg".

Good luck and hope you get your BFP soon! xxx

First cycle both times at 27 and 29 respectively. This is however not the norm. We worked hard beforehand though to improve our chances.

Writerwannabe83 · 17/07/2013 10:18

Worked hard in what way? Did you use fertility charts and things??

My friend has got 2 children and she conceived on first cycles for both of them too Smile

Straight away here with both mine too. But everyone is different. I used the mucus method to know when I was ovulating.

IHeartKingThistle · 17/07/2013 10:22

6 months for DD. About 3 days with DS.

KatieScarlett2833 · 17/07/2013 10:28

Immediately ( on our honeymoon) with DD. Got up duffed with DS 15 months later while BF and on mini pill.
DH now has had the snip Wink

CheeseFondueRocks · 17/07/2013 10:30

No, we never used fertility charts. When I conceived DC2 I was/still am breastfeeding DD1 so no charting possible with night wakings and very irregular cycles.

I am a weirdo compulsive planner so before we even started ttc , I did all the research about how to improve your and your partners fertility. Of course, I will never know if he hadn't been lucky the first time without all of it but this is what we did.

We eat super healthy, I cut out caffeine and took the right Vitamins 3 months before TTC. I don't drink alcohol anyway but DH also gave that up 3 months before (3 months is a sperm cycle) and took men vitamins. No tight underwear, no laptop on his lap for him.

I appreciate this makes me sound like a total idiot but Zita West has some great information in her Fertility book about how each of these things can influence conception time. Especially the drinking in men (and smoking but we don't do that) is vastly underestimated in terms of its effects. Something silly like drinking a few units of alcohol lowers a mans fertility. I was shocked when I read the stats.

CheeseFondueRocks · 17/07/2013 10:33

And I did have to take Vit B6 when ttc DC2 because I had a short luteal phase from breastfeeding.

islingtongirl · 17/07/2013 10:35

First cycle properly "trying", just turned 30. We were lucky I guess, didn't do anything particular, although was taking pregnacare (the conception one) for a month or so before, and DH was taking vits. Also been pretty healthy in year or so run up, exercising regularly etc. Regular sex also obvs helped!

carolthesecretary · 17/07/2013 10:35

Almost four years here and still not pregnant... Sad

Threeweekoldbaby · 17/07/2013 10:36

First time I got pregnant right away the first month of trying.

Second time it took over a year and 6 miscarriages.

27 & 29 years old. Same weight / exercise / general lifestyle. Baffling.

Writerwannabe83 · 17/07/2013 10:38

CheeseFondueRocks:

Wow - that is organised :)

Neither me or my husband drink or smoke and I have been on Folic Acid (5mg a day) for over 3 months.

My husband has an iPad so he never has a laptop on his lap either :)

Neither of us have caffeine either actually : me for health reasons and he because he never drinks tea or coffee :) Mind you, he has the occasional can of coke.

His boxer shorts are always baggy - in fact I tell him off for it and tell him I'm going to buy him some nice fitting briefs to show of his lovely bum and thighs - I don't think I will bother now then :)

He is an exceptionally healthy eater - me not so much though :)

So thanks for your post, it has made me feel happier that we have lots of positive factors in our life for quick conception :)

Within ten days with first child. Then a year with the second and third: I have a short luteal phase so I must just have been lucky with no. 1!

x0gawjus0x · 17/07/2013 10:41

Blimey everyone concieved so quick!! Im 20 and it took us 3 years of trying naturally for my first ever bfp that i got 5 weeks ago :) x

Writerwannabe83 · 17/07/2013 10:41

Can I ask what a Luteal phase is and how its length can affect conception?

EeyoreIsh · 17/07/2013 10:44

Two years, then lost baby. second pregnancy was three months after that, we were due to start ivf.

We also 'worked hard' before ttc to get everything right but sadly infertility isn't the kind of thing you can easily solve if your body has fertility problems.

Yonionekanobe · 17/07/2013 10:45

First time immediately but it was ectopic. With DD also in first cycle (using CBFM), with current pregnancy 3rd month (but 1st of using monitor).

Breezy1985 · 17/07/2013 10:48

8 months with DD, then when she was 6 months old had a slip up one night and along came DS Smile

elQuintoConyo · 17/07/2013 10:48

First try for us, too. I feel terrible for it, so many friends can't, two due to breast cancer. I was 35, 36 when DS arrived. We've decided he will be an only, so I have no idea about conceiving a second.
We are very, very blessed and I know it.

StyleManual · 17/07/2013 10:50

4 cycles (for the one we actually planned!)

CheeseFondueRocks · 17/07/2013 10:50

Luteal phase is the time between ovulation and the start of your period. It should be over ten days. While breastfeeding, mine was 4 days! When this is the case, a fertilised egg doesn't have enough time to implant into the uterus properly before bleeding starts and so it just gets flushed out.

flossy101 · 17/07/2013 10:53

Second cycle first time, miscarried at 13 weeks.

Then it was another 4 cycles til conceived DS.

moanymandy · 17/07/2013 10:55

10 months with dc1 I was 22, 23 when I eventually got pregnant.
currently 27 weeks with dc2 and it happened in the first month of trying just before my 26th birthday. was in shock at how fast it happened this time!

CheeseFondueRocks · 17/07/2013 10:56

Btw, I'm sorry if I offended anyone with fertility problems by using the phrase "trying hard". I understand that some people sadly have genuine issues.

I just meant that there are a lot of people who suffer reduced fertility due to lifestyle choices and they aren't even aware of it.
